Going in the heat of summer was the only issue, as there is just one AC unit in the living room so both the bedroom and the kitchen stay really warm. This rustic, lakefront escape is one half (the second floor) of a two-level duplex, offering its own separate entrance from the downstairs portion (which may be occupied by other renters). Here on the banks of Togus Pond - as this 654-acre lake is known locally - it's not uncommon to spot bald eagles, geese, beavers, and turtles. It's also a certified wildlife habitat and an ideal home base for those looking to be convenient to Augusta on their way to or from Acadia National Park.

Ascend a flight of 16 stairs to be rewarded with gorgeous views of the lake on three sides, as well as a private balcony that feels like it's part of the tree canopy. Begin each morning with a paddle around the lake in the provided canoe, returning home to read on the lakeshore, breathe in the pine-scented air, or build a campfire in the shared fire pit. (Please note that the canoe and the firepit is shared with the property downstairs.)
