The only thing I want to add is that getting to the third floor apartment, up extraordinarily steep and very narrow stairs can be a daunting task. I'm 63 and in decent shape, my wife, daughter and I had been traveling in Italy for a month. With luggage close to 70lbs. each, I can assure you that it is quite a task to get everything up to the unit. After struggling to carry the first bag up myself, I hired a 20 year old nearby, young man to carry the 2nd and 3rd bags and he had to stop 3 times to catch his breath. Coming down is no bargain, either. I'll tell you that gravity and this stairwell will win virtually every battle vs humans trying to get heavy luggage to and from the 3rd floor! Now, this would not stop me from staying at this apartment again, like I said, it's in a great location. Just be sure to find and pay a strong, young guy to do the heavy lifting if you should have heavy luggage. I promise, these steps will not be a picnic for this young guy, either. "

Access to Portofino can be limited as the roads are narrow and tight. In the summer months, traffic can be an impediment. It's important to plan ahead. We can help you with all the logistics. In the summer months, if the road to Porofino is blocked by traffic officers due to lack of parking, you can wave and tell the police that you are staying at Villa Ciani and they will let you pass!

There is no private parking space available, Portofino is a pedestrian only village. There is one paid parking area, and the charges are approx. 24 Euros per day.

Another important note is that the property has 2 very steep flights of stairs!

Attention: As you may or may not know, Ligura was ravaged by heavy rain in November 2018 and the narrow, winding road to Portofino, was destroyed by the storm. Work is under way to completely restore access, however, until Easter (April 21st) Portofino is now only accessible by boat! You can catch a boat from Santa Margherita 7 times a day.
