The space
The space is cozy and warm and inviting you have a separate entrance in your own porch with area to sit or have food or write ir entertain. I don’t allow gas except for short periods of time and no one of course after 10 PM there is the occasional meal that I like to share which I would leave for you and there is a toaster, refrigerator, coffee, maker, and a microwave. There’s plenty of storage for clothes and hanging things up and also an open filing cabinet for you as you’re working. The space is also available to be rented on a daily basis but for a minimum of 30 days should you need an office downtown? This is appropriate. I do have a friendly dog however, occasionally he’s barking outside and the door that I use for your entrance is also something that accommodates his coming and going at timeswere two blocks from downtown and everything that Ojai has to offer. There is a shared bathroom with the owner myself and an area for you to put your own things as well. We were just need to coordinate use and that’s easy enough with the text or notes.

We see our guests from time to time if we are home, so our interaction is basically on the guests' terms :)

We are in the middle of EVERYTHING! We are literally the middle of all the downtown maps (sometimes I have to open them extra-wide to find our street) and we have very friendly neighbors.

The Ojai Trolley ($1) has two stops within a block from the house and the Gold Coast Vista bus ($1.75 for adults) stops two blocks away, in case you would like to go to/from Ventura or the train station there.

Enjoy yourselves! Relax, park the car and leave it there for your whole stay! Let us know if you have any questions!

We enjoy visiting but respect your privacy :) There are animals on the property (small dog, lazy kitty and crazy kitty, and the chickens who will share eggs with you & eat your food scraps!) DOG OWNERS; your dog needs to get along with everyone. We work from home and while barking is part of life, it needs to be managed. Please scoop your poops and bag em and put them in the trash. Reactive/strong prey drive dogs not suggested as we have chickens and cats.

Downtown Ojai is a great place to live and we have a friendly, family oriented, creative neighborhood.

We are steps from both the Ojai Trolley and the Gold Coast Bus (and you can transfer from one to the other if you ask for a transfer ticket) as well as taxis, etc. Or rent bikes from the Mob shop!

The space
Our guest cottage has an inviting great room that overlooks an orange grove and has a beautiful view of the mountains, perfect for capturing Ojai's famous "Pink Moment" at sunset. We furnish fresh regular coffee beans with a coffee grinder, and a great assortment of teas. We have a fully equipped modern kitchen, granite countertops with a small dining peninsula, a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, blender, food processor, hand mixer, hand blender, toaster, toaster oven and gas range. We have a full set of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving bowls, baking pans, dishes, silverware all of the necessities to cook and serve a wonderful meal. There is a large selection of spices, balsamic vinegar and oil to cook with. We also furnish plastic wrap, aluminum foil, ziplock bags, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues and toiletries. The bedroom has a queen bed with a dresser, nightstands 75” flat screen TV, and walk-in closet. There is a pack and play for an infant or small child. The bathroom is roomy with a nice tile shower, soft terry cotton towels and we have a fully equipped laundry room with a washer, dryer and, laundry detergents for your use. Both the bedroom and great room open to a relaxing, beautiful, private patio complete with a gas grill, and a handsome patio table with 4 chairs. (2 folding lounge chaises are available upon request) The great room has a queen size memory foam sleeper sofa (with sheets, blankets and pillows), a foldable foam mat for an older child to use to sleep upon request, and a flat screen TV connected to the Internet through an apple TV (we do not have cable TV service). Additionally we have 2 spa robes, picnic basket and 2 yoga mats. It is all heated and air-conditioned and includes free Wi-Fi. The cottage comfortably accommodates 2 adults but can accommodate up t 4 total. Our cottage is not child proofed but we do our best to put all cleaning supplies and harmful items up out of reach when guests inform us that children are part of their group.
Things to be aware of: We live on a private road that is paved then turns to road base about 2/10 a mile from our place. Driving 10 miles an hour helps keep the dust down. The road is dark at night as there are no street lights. Our concrete driveway is very steep and the double space parking area down at the guesthouse is level but some low seated automobiles may scrape the pavement as you back into the parking spaces. If you need to avoid this issue, you are welcome to park in the areas to each side of our home. You will see them from the guesthouse. The walk on our driveway is steep to get to these spaces.

Guest access
The entire Guest cottage is yours and includes a lovely private patio area that faces the valley and overlooks the orange grove and mountains. The views are truly beautiful. There is a patio table and 4 chairs. There is gas grill for your use in front of the guest cottage as well. There is a large screen TV connected to the internet through Apple TV or Amazon Prime but we do not have any cable service. We also have a DVD player. The cottage has many board games, puzzles, some books, some children's toys, DVD's, 2 yoga mats and a fully equipped picnic basket. Two folding chairs are located in the laundry room. There are two folding lounge chaises available upon request (these must stay at the guest cottage). Beach chairs, towels, umbrella, cooler, back packs and boogie boards are available upon request for outings to the beach, lake or hiking. Please ask for these in advance.

Other things to note
We live next to California national forest so be prepared to see and hear wildlife. It is wonderful and adds to your experience here. Bird lovers will be in heaven here with over 30 species of birds nesting in our oak trees. It is common to see deer, squirrels, raccoons, opossum, chipmunks, rabbits, hawks, falcons, and lizards throughout the property and surrounding area. You may hear coyotes at night. It is rare but you may also see bobcats, lynx, bears, fox, frogs, toads, snakes, owls, and roadrunners. Please keep the screen doors shut when going in and out of the guest cottage so critters and bugs do not get inside. Take food inside after you are done eating on the patio so it does not attract animals.
Ventura County only allows 4 people, INCLUDING INFANTS AND CHILDREN to stay overnight in our cottage. If you arrive with more than 4 people, you will need to find another place to stay for the extra people in your group.
Parties are not allowed but respectful gatherings are allowed of up to no more than 10 people and must end at 10pm.
We do not allow pets. We have a pet dander allergy and respectfully ask all guests not to allow animals in the cottage.
Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am. Additional guests are not allowed during these hours.
We live at the end of a country road called Tower Drive. It is paved except for the last 2/10th of a mile which is road base and gravel and may be uneven at times during the rainy season. We take care of the road and it is well maintained. We are Prius owners and can easily navigate on the road daily. It is best to drive slowly (10 miles an hour or less) so you do not kick up any dust during the dry season.
Our driveway is very steep but levels out at the parking area in front of the guest cottage. If you have a low seated car like a Prius, your car will scrape. You can park up by our home instead if you like. Please let us know ahead of time so we can make sure to have it available for you.
Make sure to follow the directions we send you to get to the guest cottage. Mapping programs will send you down an unimproved farm road that does not reach our home accurately. You need to turn onto Tower Drive directly across from Boccali's Restaurant outdoor dining area. Our home and guest cottage are the last property on the road.
Our property faces a citrus grove and from time to time there will be workers actively working in the grove which may create noise. During the winter on the rare occasion when it freezes, the citrus farmer will turn on the wind fans to keep the temperatures from injuring their fruit. We do not own this property and are not allowed to walk into the grove.
There is no extra parking on our road. You will need to park up on the driveway in front of the guest cottage (large enough for 2 cars side by side). There is extra parking up at our home but you will need to ask permission from us before parking there. We use this area for our friends and visitors.

Then you can enjoy a soak in your private hot tub in the garden surrounded by lush bamboo while star gazing up into the famous Ojai night sky. (Our dark sky ordnance makes star gazing epic!) From the backyard, you will hear what sounds like a soft gentle rain… a Queen palm frond blowing in the wind. (My favorite sound ever!). If you come in season, you can squeeze fresh organic Ojai orange juice right from your tree!

I am an avid Airbnb renter and I personally love it when I rent a home that is fully stocked with everything I need. So that is the experience that I have created for you. I have designed a chef's kitchen with everything you might need to enjoy your culinary experience. The home is stocked with zip locks, tin foil, toilet paper, paper towels, olive oil, Himalayan salt and pepper kleenex, hand soap, dish soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and laundry detergent. Baking pans, pie pans, cookie sheets, blender, food processor, coffee grinder, coffee maker, full set of pots and pans, and even a garlic press and a lemon squeezer are provided! I hope I have thought of everything to make your stay luxurious.

You will have access to a shared washer and dryer with unscented plant-based laundry soap provided. Beach towels and boogie boards are also provided to enjoy the beach just 20 mins away. You will have your own parking space and access to electric charging for an additional fee.

There are small private units on the property with long-term tenants. They have their own entrance, parking spot, and their own yard, and have no access to your private yard. This neighborhood is sweet. It sits above the valley, providing beautiful sunset and mountain views. You'll be a short walk away from the Besant Meadow trail where you can hike up to the peak and overlooking the valley at sunset, or continue hiking over the peak into the valley where you can stop on a park bench and next to the pond that overlooks the famous Topa Topa mountains.

This home is located in the Ojai Valley just a 5-minute drive from Vons. The famous Ojai bike trail is just a few blocks away. You can bring/rent bikes or walk all the way to town. You can also enjoy a 15-minute walk to Starbucks, Air Pizza, Rite Aid, and more.

Our property is located in the magical East End of Ojai amidst avocado and orange groves. The guest cottage is a separate home and is situated under a canopy of mature trees which offers privacy for our guests.

Nestled in a picturesque valley, Ojai is renowned for its' idyllic beauty and solitude. It has long drawn seekers, including the Indian sage Jiddu Krishnamurti and John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

The space
The private cottage is a very cozy place to call home. We call it the Honey House and it is ideal for guests looking for a relaxed getaway from the hustle and bustle. We welcome people from all walks of life.

Set under a canopy of mature tall trees with green plants everywhere. The fully shaded cottage is nicely furnished with wood furniture and a comfortable queen size bed with high quality linen and pillows. The kitchen is fully outfitted with everything to make you feel at home. We also provide a good selection of teas and coffee.

The early mornings, evenings and nights are remarkably quiet due to the East End being sparsely populated. At night there isn't a sound to be heard except the odd owl hooting and crickets. There is a small private preschool nearby and the sounds of happy young children can sometimes be heard during the day, and that would only be weekdays.

Although we love animals (we have 2 dogs and a cat of our own) we do not allow animals in or around the guest house.

If you are coming from the big city you will no doubt be impressed by the crisp clean cool mountain air that comes in every night and lingers through the early morning. These are the best times to take a stroll along the orange and avocado grove streets that surround the property.

We as your hosts have worked in the hotel services field and you can count on the cottage to be detail cleaned and well appointed with all the amenities to make you feel right at home.

The Honey House is a very special and cozy place.

Ideal for singles and couples, or if you are travelling with a friend we have a nice pull out futon that seconds as a comfy bed.

Nearby is the Ojai Turtle Conservancy, Thacher School, Beatrice Wood Pottery Studio, the oft missed but spectacular Meher Mount with the most amazing views of Ventura County and of course Meditation Mount, which is the ultimate place to watch the sunset and is only a 5 minute drive from our property.

Breakfast is not included, however there are lots of lovely places to eat in Ojai: Café Emporium is the local favorite for breakfast, brunch or lunch with upscale omelets, sandwiches and salads. Another local breakfast place is Bonnie Lu's downtown in the arcade which serves up your more traditional eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy.

Other popular restaurants are Ca Marco (Italian), Exotic Thai, as well as several good Mexican places from quick burritos to upscale Tequila Bars. Also you will find several Japanese Sushi bars, Asian Fusion, Ramen (Live to Eat),
Ojai Roti with upscale rotisserie chicken dinners, the California nouveau eatery called The Nest, French Bistro and many seafood restaurants, all which have menus in our welcome folder inside the house. Ojai offers wineries, several local owned coffee houses and wine tasting rooms. Ojai is also home to many art galleries, wellness spas and world class yoga studios.

Each guest is welcomed with a bottle of local wine and Ojai cookies! Studio space features quaint bathroom (shower only - no tub) with toiletries and fresh towels. Although the apartment is attached to the main house you will have complete privacy - but your host is available for any needs or concerns. Steps from the Ojai Trolley stop and hikes or a short drive to downtown Ojai this corner house has everything you need to experience Ojai like a local. Private attached ADU with private front door and private gated parking. Although the ADU is attached you will never see our hear the residents of the main house, unless you have a need or concern. There is no yard or outdoor space, but you will be steps away from hiking trails in the Ventura River Preserve. The space has only a kitchenette equipped with microwave, induction hotplate, toaster and mini waffle iron, so it is only able to accommodate minimal meal prep.

Other things to note
Well stocked kitchenette with some cooking capabilities, but there is no stove so please be advised. Coffee, cream (dairy and non-dairy), a selection of teas, and breakfast cereals with milk provided. You will be welcomed with a nice bottle of local wine and Ojai Cookies. When using the hotplate please Please utilize the portable vent on the counter.

The space
The unit is well-appointed with a step down dining area and full kitchen An adjacent sitting area leads to your own private patio overlooking the creek.

We enjoy Spectrum's top-of-the-line wifi. Watch most of the streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Disney, Apple TV) on a 65" smart TV, as well as many premium and basic cable channels. Also enjoy plenty of books & games.

Enjoy a walk on our property or bring some water shoes and walk/hike the hundreds of acres right across the Creek. You also might want to bring water shoes for a walk up the Creek (we have a collection of water shoes but can't guarantee your size).

The bedroom has a large closet and one queen bed. An additional full sized sofa bed is also available. Your full bathroom is en-suite, with a bathtub and shower, stocked with soap, shampoo, hair dryer and plenty of towels.

Coffee, tea, drinking water, snacks and basic spices for cooking are provided and we can also stock the kitchen with your groceries prior to your arrival with proper notice.

Our "Riverwalk" has a fire pit, BBQ and seating for al-fresco dining. There is also a hammock by the Creek to read or sleep in. Also on the Creek bank are swings for children and children at heart.

There is free parking on the premises. Self check-in is available if we can’t greet and show you around in person. Just please let us know your ETA and we’ll take things from there.

We are just 2.4 miles from downtown Ojai. That's a five minute drive or 45 minute walk (tho we don't recommend the walk on busy Creek Road). Taxis and Ubers are few and far between but we may be able to arrange for drop-off and pick-up so you can enjoy wine tasting and other activities while in town.

Other things to note
This space comfortably accommodates two people but we will welcome a third person for an additional fee and children and infants at no additional charge. We allow 2 pets for an additional pet fee and a third pet on a case-by-case basis. We have a pull out sofa but please let us know if that needs to be set up for you.

We are honored to be stewards of a wide variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat here. On a good day, you will see critters of all kinds; cows, deer, ducks, herons, owls, hummingbirds and red finches, even the occasional bear, bobcat and coyote. Bees, mice and snakes are also natural residents in this part of California. If you do come across one, please be aware that they are more afraid of you than the other way around, so keep your distance if at all possible, and enjoy them from afar. Wear closed-toe shoes when walking around the Creek and surrounding land.

Please know that our water takes a while to heat-up (but it’s ok to run it for a bit longer than you're used to--as we're supplied by a natural artesian well). Thanks in advance for being respectful and gentle with all this nature.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. While you are in Ojai proper, you feel like you are away from everything.

The space
This a sweet small private oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation. Main house has bathroom (shower only), ample kitchen, laundry room, bed room (double bed) and living room. There is a lovely firepit in the front yard and an outdoor eating area, star gazing area and hot tub in the back. The back house has a twin bed with AC/Heat. Please note the second house does not have a bathroom and is not connected to the main house.

Lots of room outdoors to enjoy the lovely Ojai weather. This is a quiet, tranquil space. No parties, no smoking, no events or drug use allowed. We request a no shoes indoor policy to maintain the cleanliness of the space and the white rugs.

Casa de Shangri-La is a cozy, well appointed bungalow and bunkhouse in the the heart of Meiner's Oaks. Perfect for the person(s) who want to get away from it all!

The Bungalow - Enjoy your private garden with outdoor fire pit. Bungalow comes equipped with a full kitchen, living room, comfy double bed and private bath.

You can also book the bunkhouse if you need additional sleeping space. The bunk house has a twin bed and reading space. There are no facilities in the bunk house - so the small bathroom in the main house will be shared. You cannot rent the bunk house by itself. It only can be rented as an add-on to the main house.

Please feel free to message me with questions. Bunk house has a separate code for entry that is only provided to guests who have booked and paid for the use of the bunkhouse.

Other things to note
There are many pets in the neighborhood and we have several at the main house next door. Neighbors have an aviary - mornings are filled with soothing chatter from their birds. No loud squawking - just peaceful background noise. Pets are allowed in this rental so if you are sensitive please keep that in mind. If you are scent sensitive, please let us know in advance and we can make adjustments to make your stay more comfortable. Guests now have access to a washer and dryer for their use and need free of additional charge.

Tuesdays are yard and hot tub maintenance days so there will be workman on the property in the mid to late afternoon to service the hot tub and clean up the yard. They will make every effort to not disturb you. If this is bothersome to you - please let me know. Both professional are quick, personable and reliable.

The hot tub is clean, hot and amazing to sit out under the Ojai night sky! Please enjoy!

Ojai is country and with the bucolic surroundings come raccoons, coyotes and possums. There could even be a mountain lion, although I have never seen one in my neighborhood in the 8 years I have lived here. Just know you are not in a city and you will likely hear or see wildlife while you are in Ojai.

We respect the local Ojai Valley rules regarding vacation rentals. There are no vacation rentals allowed in the City of Ojai. In the unincorporated area outside of town, where we are, only "home shares" are allowed. This means owner-occupied. We respect the concerns of some members of our government and community regarding unregulated vacation rentals, and ask our guests to be good representatives of the exciting new sharing economy.

Here’s some information and tips to help make your stay easier.

Pool Area
Enjoy one of the great experiences of Ojai….the pool at Euterpe Farms with White Ledge Peak of the Transverse Ranges at sunset! It’s full of mineral water drawn from the earth at the windmill. Very lightly treated, your skin will feel great afterwards.

We’ll show you how to use the hot tub on request! There’s an icemaker and refrigerator on the terrace under the pergola on the way to the pool

There are pool towels for you, and just let us know if you need more.

Wildlife
Euterpe Farms has a 1000’ fenced border and 180 degree view of the beautiful Ojai Land Conservancy’s Ventura River Preserve, and the two million acre Los Padres National Forest. This beautiful, diverse, and wild country is home to an amazing assortment of wildlife found nowhere else.
This is THEIR home, and WE are the visitors here on the edge of this wilderness. Be respectful of this fact and you will be rewarded with close-up view of an amazing assortment of plants and wildlife. Some of the larger animals you may see: deer, coyote, fox, snakes, bobcat, mountain lion, bear. Bird watchers will LOVE the diversity. We encourage raptors, and you may see or hear several types of owls, hawks, and other birds of pretty. There is usually a resident barn owl in the brown owl house in the tree in the middle of the circle driveway. You can see her pellets on the ground below.

With big animals come small animals, so if you like lizards, spiders, snakes and other crawlies, you’ll love it as much as the animals that eat them. If you don’t, well, you might have to live with them, because there’s 2 million acres of their home right next door! We try to maintain a no-kill philosophy on the property, and we have only seen one poisonous snake. Best advice: Enjoy the wildlife, but don’t handle it!

Vegetable Garden and Orchard
There’s a vegetable garden on the side yard along the driveway. It is protected from deer by an electric fence which can be unplugged where the extension cord meets the controller in the white bucket. All organic. Help yourself.

The orchard is seasonal, we have some type of fruit much of the year, but only a tree or two of each. Naval orange, plums, apricots, cherries, avocado, peaches, figs, blood oranges, grapefruit, white pomegranate.

Monarch Butterflies
We are a monarch butterfly sanctuary. What this really means is that we nurture and cultivate the Ojai native milkweed species, Asclepias fascicularis…the monarchs do the rest! You will see butterflies most of the spring, summer, and fall, and then they overwinter in groves along the California coast. While they enjoy nectar from the variety of wildflowers on the farm, they only lay their eggs on milkweed…so it is vital to their dwindling populations. Consider purchasing a milkweed while you are here to take home.

Norman
Speaking of animal life, our resident black lab, Norman, welcomes you as well. He is well-behaved, and may bark at you when you arrive, or at the coyotes if they come on the property, but is as kind and sweet as any canine you may meet. He loves the pool, so if you want him to join you, you won’t have any problem. If not…a firm “no” will usually let him know who’s boss.


Chickens
Our hens think they rule the roost. They kinda do. You are welcome to eggs. They lay during the warm months, usually late in the morning. We let them out sometimes in the late afternoon when Norman can watch them. There’s no rooster so they shouldn’t spoil your sleep. They are named for famous heroines and musical chicks, “Rox-Hen”, “Re-Peck-ah”, “Yolk-O Ono”, “Lay-la”, “Buffy” …you get the idea. You may change their names at your desire.

Climate and Comfort
Ojai has a reputation in California for being blazing hot, but that isn’t really true, with a few exceptionally hot spells each year. Here at the Farm, during the summer months we are rewarded with a beautiful Pacific marine layer breeze every afternoon, and the average summer daytime temperature is 90 degrees.

The winters are mild, but sometimes chilly at night. The wall furnace has a thermostat under the access panel at the bottom. You’ll be very comfortable with a setting between 1 and 3 (out of ten). There are two black marks to make these settings easier to see. If the pilot goes out, and you need help lighting it, let us know.

Sometimes during offshore wind conditions, it does get BLAZING HOT for several days at a time. If you are lucky enough to be visiting during one of these spells (we may get two or three of them per year and it can be over 100 degrees), remember that it does cool off at night, so open the windows and night and shut them in the morning as the day warms up. There is an attic fan that can add to your cross breeze, and a portable air conditioner that will take the edge off. But the best solution is a dip in the beautiful swimming pool, and planning an evening poolside until the stars come out.

That said, chances are that you will have fantastic weather, any time of the year, and use the windows to moderate your temperature, and enjoy the porch.

Indoor Living
Ojai is all about outdoors, but you’ll find a lot of indoor conveniences here: Refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, service for small groups, satellite TV with surround sound, wifi, a desk area, books….etc.

If you’re here for more than a few days, and need anything (cooking utensils, iron and iron board, guitar) just text or ask Smitty.

Plumbing
Euterpe Farms is on a green septic system. If it didn’t come out of your body or off the roll of supplied septic-safe tissue, it doesn’t go in the toilet. Trust us…we will find out!

Solar and Wind and Water
The little faucet next to the sink delivers you unlimited delicious and “world famous” Euterpe Farms windmill mineral water. This water is purchased by thousands of fans at our roadside tienda (farm stand) as their exclusive drinking water. Delicious, untreated and pure mineral water. It is raised by the power of the wind from our 1926 Aeromotor windmill from an isolated aquifer under this portion of Meiners Oaks.
The farm has a 8500 kilowatt solar generating system, making power from Ojai’s most precious asset, our sunshine.

Bees
We’re doing our part to help sustain healthy communities of honeybees here at Euterpe Farms. Their hives are very obvious off to the cliff side near the windmill. No one has been bitten that wasn’t messing around with their hives. No one HASN’T been bitten who WAS messing around with them. Your choice.

You’ll see them on the wildflowers around the Farm. Tip your hat and say thank you (or “gracie”… they are an Italian variety), and they won’t bother you.

Hikes
We recommend the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s beautiful Ventura River Preserve. Walk or drive the one-half mile north on Rice Rd. to the trailhead. There is a private semi-improved trail that starts out near the windmill. It’s a steep climb down steps carved into the hillside, and then you follow deer and coyote trails to the public trails…10 minutes away.

Another favorite is the Shelf Road Trail in Downtown Ojai, accessible by trailhead at the top of Signal Street.

Rose Valley Falls is about 30 minutes up the 33 in the beautiful mountains above Ojai.

There is a Forest Service Office in Ojai’s East End with lots of maps, books, and information about the Los Padres National Forest.

General Safety
Euterpe Farms is a working farm. That means there are farm tools, farm work, and multiple hazards that you won’t find in most “vacation spots.” This is the beauty and uniqueness of this special place, but please use common sense and understanding.

As a guest here in the Guest House, you are welcome to the apartment and beautiful deck, and non-exclusive use of the pool. You may walk the grounds but please respect the privacy of the occupants of the main house.

Besides being a native plant farm, any portion of the grounds and pool area may be in use for other purposes such as parties and music events, filming, music recording or rehearsal, photography, plein air painting, and private use by the owner, Smitty West. Please be respectful of the privacy and business of the other people enjoying the Farm.

The property requires regular land care, pool service, gardening, and farming that may be occurring at any time, so if you see our happy grounds manager, Urbano….say hola! Smitty also enjoys doing work around the farm, and he may offer you a tour.

Parking
Please park on the dirt area at the bottom of the stairs. Do not block the garage doors or the paved circle so delivery and service vehicles can come and go. The beautiful 450-year old oak tree in the front of the main house will thank you as well!

Smitty West
The owner and caretaker of Euterpe Farms, is singer/songwriter Smitty West. If he’s around, he’s a very friendly fellow who might want to share a story or hike with you. (URL HIDDEN) If he is on the property, he loves meeting our guests and helping you enjoy your stay. You can hear him sing with his partner Julija Zonic at The Vine wine bar in downtown Ojai Saturdays from 5:00-7:00pm. Some of their CDs are on display in the room for purchase.

Have a drink of clean, pure windmill water, courtesy of Euterpe Farms!

This water is brought to you from a pure underground aquifer that underlies this area west of Krotona Hill. The reservoir is mapped by geologists to be fault-separated from the municipal wells in the Ventura River bottom, and in a completely different aquifer.
The well underlies the windmill you see in the field in front of you. Taste it, you’ll love it. So will your dog or horse, so let them have some too!
This water has been lifted by the power of the wind!
Before you is a 1920s-vintage, restored Chicago Aermotor A602 windmill. It was salvaged from a farm near Santa Paula, and put back into service to lift the water that nurtures the young native plants here at Euterpe Farms.
This machine is a thing of mechanical beauty and simplicity. It slowly and deliberately lifts the water from the earth every afternoon in the ocean breezes that move up the Ventura River as the Ojai Valley heats up in the sunshine. The machine is self regulating, turning to catch light breezes, but folding her tail to take the sails out of the wind in heavy winds. Every stroke lifts about two cups of water six inches. It sounds slow, but if the wind blows all day, it will fill one of the tanks you see next to the tower.
There’s a pond next to the well to catch the overflow on really windy days. Look closely for wildlife around the pond, including deer and bobcat.
What about when there’s no wind?
The farm has installed a solar photovoltaic grid on the south side of the farmhouse. Every sunny day, our electric meter runs backwards! The small pressure pumps that help the windmill during low wind, and pressurize the water in the irrigation system draw on this power. We also have a solar water heating system made from recycled equipment from the 70s and 80s. We try to keep a low carbon footprint here at Euterpe Farms!

Actually, “WHO is Euterpe ("you-TER-pee")? In Greek mythology, she is one of the Muses, the daughters of Mnemosyne, fathered by Zeus. Called the "Giver of Pleasure", she was the muse of music.

Sweet 1 is in the heart of downtown Ojai~ walking distance to restaurants, hiking trails, breweries, shopping, spas + more. It is a free standing casita on a property with other structures but Sweet 1 is separate and private once you enter through the wooden gate. Our guest love the private patio & unique bathroom! No kitchen, just micro, refrig, coffee, etc

The space
Drive to Ojai, park your car, and then walk everywhere you want to go! Truly steps from downtown Ojai. This is a laid back property in the heart of Ojai- we like to keep things simple and not fussy. For 2 night stays, we give guests one towel each because of excessive laundry (CA drought), we have coffee, lap blankets to enjoy the patio in the evening, bikes (please only ride on the street otherwise the tires will be popped by goat heads on dirt trails), shampoo/soap/etc. Please bring your netflix & spotify codes for our smart TV, we love pets but they are not allowed- sorry! There is ONE parking spot right next to the white stucco wall adjacent to sweet 1 (more parking on the street).

There is one parking next to "Sweet One" (next to white stucco wall) with a private entrance, beautiful patio, with sleeping and living space in the studio. We are available & happy to help with whatever is needed but with otherwise we will not be around (it is self check in/out). You will have complete privacy once you enter Sweet One. The space
Located less than 10 minutes from downtown Ojai, our quiet little valley borders the Los Padres National Forest and Ventura River Preserve. Our guesthouse is one of a kind, custom-built in 2021 to provide the ultimate guest experience.

Our 500 square foot cabin is located in a secluded area that is part of a seven-acre private property and provides all the modern conveniences you could wish for. Central air conditioning and heating ensure you can set the perfect temperature year-round, while the fully fitted kitchen includes everything from an espresso maker to a dishwasher.

Glass sliders across the entire cabin not just offer spectacular views of the river basin and surrounding mountains from inside but also open up onto a wooden deck that extends the living space outside. Sit here, sipping a glass of wine and feel yourself relax as you become one with nature. Roller shades across all doors and windows filter the sun and offer privacy.

Lounge
The lounge area includes a comfortable seating arrangement, including a two-seater couch and armchair, where you can relax, read or busy yourself with a puzzle or board game. There's also a little breakfast area adjacent to the kitchen. We provide WiFi but there is no TV as we want you to fully immerse yourself in nature while here. Sit out on the deck at night and gaze at the stars, listening to a symphony of crickets and frogs.

Kitchen
The fully fitted kitchen includes a fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle and espresso maker as well as all the pots and pans, plates, bowls, glasses, cups and silverware you could possibly need. Stocked with cooking essentials, tea and coffee, you’ll also be treated to complimentary eggs from our chickens and when in season a basket of produce from the surrounding farms. Don’t feel like cooking? No problem, let us cater a special dinner for you. Menus provided on request.

Bathroom
The bathroom features a walk-in shower, toilet and vanity and we provide soft towels, a hairdryer and luxury toiletries.

Bedroom
The bedroom at the back of the cabin features a queen-size bed that you’ll sink into like a cloud. With black-out blinds and the quiet sounds of nature, you’ll sleep like a baby here. There are bedside USB plug-ins so you can charge your phone at night.

Guest access
Our seven-acre property is secluded in a private canyon just west of Ojai.
Guests are welcome to roam our land and the surrounding river basin, where you will find paths leading to shady river pools to swim in. The adjacent citrus farm is not accessible for hikes as it is private land belonging to our neighbors.

Other things to note
Ojai has a Mediterranean climate year-round with lots of sunshine and warm days even during the winter months. Summers get relatively hot and rain falls mainly during the winter. Downtown Ojai is about a 8-minute drive away, with plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining and local wine and beer tasting. The many miles of mountains that surround the Ojai Valley offer beautiful hiking trails with views, waterfalls and natural sulfur hot springs. Don't miss the famous Pink Moment just before sunset, when the whole valley is showered in a spectacular alpenglow.

No Pets
While we love animals, we have our own and they don't respond well to other dogs being on the property. So if you're looking for a place to bring your furry friends, we're probably not the best fit.

Horseback Riding: The Ojai Valley Trail Riding Company is just five minutes down the road from us and offers one-hour trail rides into the Ventura River Preserve. Let us book a ride for you.
Massage: If you want to truly relax, our local massage therapist will come to the cabin and provide a treatment.
Wine Tasting: Ojai is home to a host of wineries, and we will happily book a wine tasting experience for you.

The Wisdom House is a serene and private freestanding cottage nestled in a tranquil corner of Stargate - surrounded by colorful flowers, lemon trees and the sound of a nearby fountain. With its high ceilings, vibrant decor, and symbolic art, this space is designed for restorative retreat time.

Guest access
To ensure the safety of our animals and the balance of the sanctuary, certain areas of the land are reserved and not open to guests—specifically the space beyond the green gates where our furry friends live. Upon arrival, we’ll provide a brief tour to highlight all the areas you’re welcome to enjoy, including the gardens, pool, lounge areas, and other outdoor spaces, as well as those that are respectfully off-limits.

Stargate operates as a Private Membership Association (PMA); all guests sign a simple one-page agreement upon arrival.

No pets allowed, including service animals. A \$500 fee applies for any undisclosed animals.
