The space
Views of Trees and hills from the window or sitting at outside patio set, in front of your main entrance door. Short walk from the front door is your private dirt parking space! (or if rainy/recently rainy, or if you prefer to park on the street- short walk from the street-following the solar lights if arriving at dark).

One Queen, comfy bed! One queen air mattress- you can request to be set up ahead of time- electric motor, so easily deflated during the day for more space. One trundle bed with two single mattresses or chaise lounge is also sleepable!

The cozy home studio is a perfect size for two people, snug for 4-6, but plenty of space to expand outside!

Coziness include: Fridge, Toaster Oven, microwave & electric kettle (no kitchen sink!), crock pot, dishes, utensils, Wireless Internet and a clawfoot tub for relaxing! Please do not book this listing if you are afraid of nature or its creatures. This rustic studio is in the Santa Monica Mountains and you are very likely to hear (or see) coyotes, hawks, roadrunners and bunnies. You may be lucky enough to spot bobcats, quail, hawks, owls, mice (outside). They are usually very shy and won't bother humans, but they are our neighbors! Sometimes ants will decide to take a shortcut through the tiny home studio. They are harmless and do not seek to interact with humans. Do not leave food out for them to devour! (PROTIP: In warm months, we have trash bags for food trash -put in fridge or freezer to keep the ants away.)

The private gravel and dirt driveway and parking spaces, back patio hangout space and studio apartment with full bathroom and kitchenette, is all for your private use. If there is rain (or recent rain), then parking is on the street with a very short walk to cozy home studio. If you prefer to park on the street you can also do that, low cars and luxury cars have parked in our driveway but up to your personal comfort! - NOTE: Please do not walk freely around our property outside of the area described <3 but The views up at the end of the street are EXTRAORDINARY!

The space
This private apartment is a very large studio space. Our guests boast a great night's rest in the very comfortable queen bed adorned with 4 down pillows and high threadcount white bedding. If work you must, enjoy canyon views as you labor. The studio has excellent WiFi, heating, and AC system. It is a wonderful space for two.

Guest access
The apartment is very private with it's own access, in a building detached from our home. The guests have access to a gas grill, an outdoor eating area, and are also welcome to relax on the front patio by the fountain.

Other things to note
We supply "makeup washcloths" and cotton pads for makeup removal. We discourage hair dying in the studio for obvious reasons, but know that gray happens. Please let us know if you plan to dye your hair and we’ll supply appropriate towels

FAQs:

Q: Is the beach walkable?
A: Unfortunately not, in order to get this incredible, panoramic ocean view we are on a street that has a steep incline and walking to the beach isn't really an option (some guests who are active/hikers have but personally I would NOT consider it walkable). We're a 2-3 minute drive away from Duke's Malibu, and from there many beaches can be reached within minutes.

Q: Can I film/take pictures here?
A: We do not book shoots through Airbnb. You need to go through on of our location agencies--We are represented by Malibu Locations, Image Locations, and Cast Locations.

Q: Do you really mean it when you say no parties/gatherings/extra visitors who aren't spending the night??
A: YES! We will cancel your reservation without a refund if you try to bring extra people on to the property. We live in a quiet family neighborhood and have a zero tolerance for parties/gatherings/events/"it's not a party I just invited some extra friends over"/unauthorized photo shoots/commercial activity

Guests have access to easy street parking right in front of the property entrance, a private entrance, and a beautiful outdoor seating area shaded by a giant palm tree. There is a lockbox for your convenience for self check-in.

There are two buildings on the property: the main house and driveway/Tesla charger are NOT included in this listing--we ask that guests respect the privacy of each others' reserved space.

When you first arrive, we will buzz you in the private gate and after arriving you will have a gate opener to get access whenever it's convenient. When leaving we will need to buzz you out as well.

Other things to note
SMOKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY. Please do not book this property if you smoke.

Due to our location in the mountains, cell phone service can be spotty around our property. Please keep this in mind and print out driving directions and check-in information for your reference prior to your arrival. 5g wifi is available here once you check-in.

Upon check-in we will buzz you in the private road and you will receive a gate clicker that will allow you to access the private road that is a quick and easy way to get to/from Pacific Coast Highway. We have 1 gate opener that you can borrow, but use of the gate opener remote is subject to the gate road association's regulations which may change in the future (which would require simply entering a code to get buzzed in and out of the gate each time).

Please note no trucks, vans (including minivans), Sprinter/high top vans, camper vans, or oversize SUVs can use the private, gated road. You will need to take the longer, back route which is rather windy and takes about 10-15 minutes versus using the private gate. Only standard cars and small or mid-size SUVs can use the private gated road.

Guests have access to 5g WiFi throughout the guest house and outdoor areas.

No additional guests on the property at any time that are not on the reservation.

The gardener comes for weekly service on Monday mornings.

This house is surrounded by some amazing nature, and so you can expect to see some bugs and wildlife at times. In the summer they are especially active--we are always clearing off spider webs and cleaning inside and outside but please understand you probably will run into some bugs & critters during your stay.

Please note there is no luggage storage before check-in or after check-out. If you'd like early check-in, make sure to request it in advance. In most cases we cannot offer it, but we will be happy to let you know in case it is possible (though we may not be able to let you know either way until the morning of check-in in many cases). It is EXTREMELY rare that we can offer late checkout, but if you request it in advance as well we will let you know if it's possible. Requests the morning of for late checkout are not possible due to the need to schedule our cleaners in advance. Guests are responsible to check for personal items before check-out. Lost items can be arranged to be picked up in Santa Monica or Culver City; we do not mail forgotten items.

There is a gravel driveway that leads to the back cottage, parking in front for two cars.
The cottage is a guest house and the front house is also a rental cottage. Please be respectful of other tenants and surrounding neighbors.

Please treat our home and neighborhood with respect.

No smoking inside. No parties and we ask noise levels to drop as of 9:30 pm per Malibu City Noise Ordinance.

The cottage is on septic, do not put excess toilet paper or feminine hygiene products in toilets.

Please be aware that Malibu is a high fire risk area, and fireworks are strictly prohibited to ensure the safety of our community and the environment.

For long-term stays (reservations over 28 days), a $1,000 security deposit is required at the time of booking to secure the dates. In the traditional long-term rental market, security deposits often range from one to two months’ rent, so our deposit is significantly lower—intended more as a gesture of commitment than a financial barrier. The full deposit will be returned on the same day the lease ends, provided there are no damages or breaches of the agreement.

The space
This as a small, guesthouse with a deck, tucked into the mountain behind the main residence.. I live in the main residence, with my husband, our mom, 2 dogs and 2 cats. The property is not perfect, however, the tiny guesthouse is newly built, has a 50 inch smart tv, Wi-Fi, mini fridge with freezer, microwave, hot water kettle and coffee maker. The driveway is a little rough, steep parts, cobblestone parts and some parts dirt/gravel. It’s easy to access the guesthouse however if your car is low to the ground, it’s completely doable just drive slow. The views are spectacular - we sit at the border of Solstice Canyon Park so there are no neighbors close by. If you love nature, you’ll love staying in the tiny guesthouse!❤️

The designated parking, corridor to the house and deck are clearly defined. Please stay in the designated areas. We do not own the property next to us and we cannot make it better on the road for guests as much as we’d like to!❤️

The door handle on the tiny guesthouse’s French doors can be tricky. Please pull the handle on the right side up to unlock and pull the left side door’s handle up to open. The same procedure is required to lock, please pull the handles up!

Welcome to the newly renovated cottage just a walk away from the beach. This studio features an updated interior and exterior, complete with a spacious private deck and garden, as well as the addition of heating and A/C for a more comfortable stay. The prime location of the cottage is just 5 minutes away from food and shops, leaving everything you need right at your fingertips.

Tranquil and peaceful, a stay in the pool house is like being at your own private retreat!

Enjoy this completely private and separate one bedroom guest house in the Carbon Canyon area of Malibu. We have very few neighbors and our 13 acre property is a blissful three minutes away from the noise of busy Pacific Coast Highway but close enough to easily access beaches, restaurants and shops. For point of reference we're just a few minutes away from Duke's Restaurant.

Because Carbon Canyon is sparsely populated there isn't a sound to be heard at night except the hooting of owls, the sound of crickets and the distant waves on Carbon Beach below. The lack of light pollution provides wonderful stargazing.

All inside and outside spaces shown in the photos are private and for guests' use only. Secluded and surrounded by organic avocado and lemon trees the location is the ultimate in tranquility and solitude.

The pool house features a full kitchen with a restaurant grade range and refrigerator. Furnished with authentic mid-century furniture, both indoors and outdoors. Access to a sparkling, PRIVATE, solar-heated pool is provided.

4 minutes to nearby Carbon Beach and 8 minutes to the center of Malibu. (Please note our property is not within walking distance of the beach.) Our property is 10 miles from Santa Monica.

Please note the pool house is accessed via a long set of railroad stairs which may not be suitable for some guests.

The pool house is cleaned exclusively with organic, chemical-free cleaning supplies and is stocked with organic hand and body soap and laundry and dish detergent. All bedding and towels are washed with fragrance-free detergent and never dried with dryer sheets.

Guest access
The entire pool house, pool and pool deck are yours. We give our guests absolute privacy (and rarely meet them) but are always available if questions arise.

A private set of stairs leads guests down to the pool house from the driveway and is completely separate from the main house where our family lives. A spiral staircase outside the pool house door takes guests from the living quarters to the pool deck above.

Other things to note
Guests must have at least a 4.5 star rating and no negative reviews to book. If you don’t meet this requirement please contact us before booking.

When inquiring about our property please tell us about yourself and what brings you to Malibu. Please do not book without sending us a message!

Please respect our request to limit your comings and goings between 10:00PM and 6:00AM.

We unfortunately do not accept children due to safety concerns.
Infants under the age of 1 are welcome, but our property is NOT baby-proofed. Toddlers and children not permitted.

Please note that Uber, Lyft and other taxi services are not possible to or from our property. There is ample parking at the bottom of Rambla Pacifico (a few hundred feet from Pacific Coast Highway in front of Las Flores Creek park) and cars can be safely left there.

No deliveries please. This is a rural area and deliveries/taxi service really don't work well.

Cell phone service can be spotty or non-existent in most of Malibu, depending on your carrier. The WiFi in the pool house is strong (97Mbps).

No visitors at any time. No PARTIES, SMALL GATHERINGS, EVENTS, WEDDINGS OR PHOTO SHOOTS allowed at our property. Professional photo and film shoot inquiries are handled by the location company Catherine Meyler and Associates.

Two overnight guests maximum.

The pool house is accessed via a private set of railroad tie and gravel stairs to the left of the main house, below the guest parking area. The stairs may not be suitable for some guests. We have, however, hosted several pregnant women (in their third trimester!) who have not had a problem. Please be aware that large, heavy suitcases may present difficulty.

GPS is not always reliable in Malibu.
Please refer to the itinerary you will receive upon booking for detailed directions and arrival instructions. Because of Malibu's rural environment (no street lights, limited signage) we strongly recommend arriving during daylight hours and request that guests arrive before 8:00PM.

No smoking, no candles or open flames of any kind. Malibu is an extreme fire-risk zone.

Please do not spill oil or food on the concrete decks.

Washer/dryer and storage facility for luggage is adjacent to the pool house and is specifically for guests' use.

The pool is solar heated and will be very comfortable during the summer and early fall but can be chilly in the winter and early spring.

The interior photos of the pool house show the rental. The main house is not for rent and is a completely separate structure on the property.

Please note that the pool house is furnished with authentic, collectable mid-century furniture and should be treated accordingly!

September and October are typically the warmest months in Malibu and most tourists are gone by then-- it's the best time to visit! Migrating grey whales are visible from our property in the fall and spring.

The space
Our guest house features a California King size bed (a twin size air mattress is available for an additional charge) and sleeps 2 adults extremely comfortably. Additional adults can be accommodated for an additional $45 per night, per person charge (please let us know total number of guests at time of booking). You do not drive miles up a Malibu canyon to get here, we are just one mile from Pacific Coast Highway and close to markets and restaurants. We are located in the Malibu Park area of Malibu. 180 degree views. Family oriented and a horse friendly street. Please read through the entire listing as it will answer many questions. We can't wait to welcome you to Malibu. PLEASE absolutely NO SMOKING - inside OR out.

Guest access
You will have direct access to our property with private, separate parking for 2 cars directly in front of the guest house. Our guest house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The main house (where we live, is newly built) it's about 200 feet away and you will have absolute privacy during your stay. There will be NO construction work going on during your stay. There is a seating area just outside so you can take in the view of the Malibu hillside anytime. Bonsall and Zuma canyon hiking trails are within walking distance with Zuma Beach less than 1 mile away. Fresh towels are provided! There is also a Nespresso machine and assorted teas and sugars. We also provide yoga mats and beach towels for your stay. NO SMOKING inside OR out. Access is code activated and will be given to you prior to your arrival.

Other things to note
We charge a very low cleaning fee, so we ask that you please leave the guest house the way you found it :) You DO NOT need to make the bed when you leave, but please do your own dishes (or run the dishwasher before you walk out) and dispose of the trash when you leave us! Please take the trash out to the cans located near the stone entry at the entrance of the driveway.

Our home and guest house burned down in the 2018 Woolsey fire. We spent the last five years rebuilding our home and are so excited to offer our small piece of paradise to guests!

Due to the quiet local nature of our neighborhood, there can be no extra guests other than those that we know are coming and are on the reservation. Thank you so much!
