The space
Magpie Cottage is a single storey modernised traditional cottage where you will enjoy your choice of 2 bedrooms plus your own private bathroom and the use of a full modern kitchen (shared ).

The modern well-appointed private bathroom is opposite your room. It is your private lockable bathroom and there is another toilet with a hand-basin off the laundry area.

The lounge/dining/kitchen area is a convenient open plan shared space. Enjoy these areas and feel free to use the facilities including the kitchen and tea and coffee making station.

An enjoyable feature is a covered deck with outdoor furniture and a barbeque.

Breakfast. We provide a free continental breakfast with a variety of choices.

Evening meals. See information on suggestions of places where you can go for an evening meal. The kitchen is shared with the host but you are very welcome to cook if you wish to do so.

Magpie Cottage does not permit smoking or vaping inside but you are welcome to do so on the covered deck outside.

Guest access
The 2 bedrooms in the guest suite are your private space with your own entrance.
Bedroom 1 has a desk and a Smart TV.
Bedroom 2 has French Doors opening onto the covered deck and the garden. Both bedrooms have privacy locks and Bedroom 2 has a Portacot available.

You have a private lockable bathroom, plus access to an additional toilet.

Other shared spaces include lounge/dining and kitchen area as well as the outside covered deck.

Should you require it you also have access the washing machine and dryer.

Cycles can be stored in a closed garage

Taumarunui has patchy cell-phone coverage which affects Magpie Cottage but if you enable Wifi Calling on your phone this should solve the problem.

Here is a cosy little 2 bedroom cottage to share with you.
It is close to a hundred years old but coaxed lovingly into the 21st century. Now it's ready to wrap it welcoming walls around you. 

The space
It was the original home built by one of the first hospital radiologist. It is just around the corner from the local hospital. It features a small lounge (TV, radio, armchair plus a two seater couch. Queen size bed in main bedroom and two single beds in second room. There is also a porta cot and a bassinet available. The kitchen has a microwave, fridge, and small bench top cooker, coffee machine and kettle.

Guest access
The Cottage is positioned at the rear of the property in a private location. Guests can drive through under the carport (height clearance 2 metres) and drive up to the cottage and park beside it. They can also use the grassed area to turn around to drive out. The parking area is lit by sensor lights. There is also a BBQ available on the deck up at the main house and picnic table with bench seats for guests to use for dinner or breakfast.

Great place to stay before or after doing the Timber Trail.
It's a 2 min. drive to the pick up point for the Forgotten World Adventures.

If you’re looking to slow it down, a visit to Laurens Lavender Farm, Bradleys Garden (the only garden of national significance in the North Island), Nevalea Alpacas, or the Kakahi Glow-worms are all relaxing ways to experience the area.

We are extremely fortunate to have the Mountains within a 40 minute drive. There are numerous walks on and around the mountain to take in... take a ride to the top on the chair lift and enjoy the magnificent views of the Central Plateau in the summer, or enjoy the fantastic skiing on Mt Ruapehu from July to October.

The Wanganui river runs through our town that provides fantastic adventures jet boating or with guided or solo trips kayaking/canoeing ..the scenery is spectacular!

The recently completed "Timber Trail", with over 100km of differing distanced trails, that offers the more energetic traveller amazing bike rides through bush, native forest, and over department of conservation land where wildlife and native bush areas are preserved.

There is trout fishing, game hunting, or perhaps a game of golf.

Forgotten World Adventures, the towns newest tourist attraction, will take you on a picturesque journey over farm land and country side, unable to be visited by car, travelling along disused railway lines in a modified golf cart!
