The space
Our family look forward to welcoming you to stay at ‘Bonnie Doon’ here nestled in a bush clad valley next to the Tararu River on the Thames coast. Darryl, Sarah and Callum with Bonnie the super friendly pointer cross dog and Rita the springer spaniel puppy know you will enjoy your stay with sounds of Tuis and bellbirds calling, and friendly fantails flitting in the trees, and our resident family of quail – with the ever-present calming vibe of the river as background music. Hows the serenity!

Your accommodation is in our basement flat with independent entry from our house. Off street parking is provided for one medium sized vehicle, with further parking on street if required. It is a very private and peaceful place. Feel free to explore and relax in the gardens and help yourself to the fruit trees in the orchard when in season. Usually, the resident ‘wildlife’ will include a doggie very keen for a pat and a bit of attention!

Inside you’ll find a newly renovated spacious 3 room flat that can sleep 5 comfortably. A cozy retro/kiwiana feel is the ‘vibe of it’ with the décor and everyday items we have gathered for you to use, and we will be always adding and tweaking the collection. There is a full kitchen and dining in one room, with the sliding entry door leading to your paved garden patio area. The middle room has the TV and lounge area, with a single bunk set for overflow bedding, and bathroom adjoining. This includes a firestick for Freeview channels and on-line streaming access, as well as a DVD player and collection of movies. The main bedroom holds a super comfy queen bed and single over double bunk bed. A workstation is in this room, with a keyboard and monitor available for plugging into your device. Internet access is provided with ultra fast fibre ethernet connection at the workstation along with high speed wifi throughout. A fish cleaning bench with running water is provided out in the carport, to process your catch.

We recommend going out our back gate for a short walk along the riverbank to the river mouth and beach to watch the awesome sunsets. You’ll also find a swimming hole in the river above the ford for a cooling dip on a hot day, only a short walk further up our street! A bush walking track also starts a short way up our street which leads to Tinkers gully – an historic gold mining location. There are many other tramping tracks and mountain bike trails nearby, it is also worthwhile visiting the museums in town to take in the colourful gold mining history of the area.

Access to your door is via a path sloping down the side of the house – this may be a little steep for anyone with mobility issues so let us know if you have any accessibility concerns. We can also help with local knowledge for fishing spots and boat launching options.

Guest access
Guests have access to the basement flat and adjacent patio. Feel free to wander through the gardens and orchard, and use the back gate to access the riverbank to walk to the beach.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. We offer a small cabin with rural views & access to a large private swimming hole with a sandy beach.
There is no internet or TV so you can have a quiet getaway where you can forget the stresses of life & relax. We are on the Kauaeranga Valley Rd close to all the walking tracks, so if you are wanting to walk the tracks during the day & stay with us at night the cabin would be perfect for you.

The space
We offer a small cabin in a rural setting. The cabin is small with limited space, but has everything you need for an enjoyable stay The cabin contains a double bed, a kitchenette, shower, flushing toilet & has gas hot water.
There is a covered deck for outside sitting with a bar setting with rural views. There is a BBQ available for your use. The kitchen has a fridge, microwave & electric frying pan for cooking. All crockery & cutlery provided. You will have access to a large private swimming hole with a sandy beach which is close to the cabin.

Guests would have a cabin with a key to come & go as they please, away from the main house.

A tastefully renovated 1 bedroom, fully self -contained Victorian cottage set in 3.5 acres of tranquil, park-like rural land.

The property backs onto the Kauaeranga River, a beautiful clean flowing river with an idyllic swimming hole at the end of the property.

The majestic Pinnacles walking track is at the end of the road.

The cottage is just 5km from the centre of Thames township; everything is nearby, including the popular Hauraki Rail Trail which is a 3.5km cycle from Bakehouse Cottage.

The space
Everything you need for an extended stay is available in the cottage - cooking facilities, laundry, DVDs, books, and comfortable furniture.

The bedroom is set up for either 2 singles or as a super-king bed.

For ambience, a wood-burner keeps the cottage warm in winter if you do not want to use the heating. There is no shortage of hot water which is heated by gas. Firewood and kindling is supplied.

And to while away those lazy afternoons with a good book, the front verandah over-looking the cottage garden has comfortable cane arm chairs.

Guest access
Access to the entire property and the river is provided for guests. The walk to the river through the woodland area is a calming experience, and the farm animals are well behaved.

Guests may help themselves to the many varieties of fruit available in season on the trees .

And a 3 minute walk under the stars to see the glow worms is a very pleasant evening activity.

Well set up, self contained and spacious one bedroom cottage up on the Hill overlooking Thames. Just a few minutes away from town and good base for Coromandel Peninsula experience. It is warm, welcoming and private. Very comfortable King bed, good water pressure in shower. Breakfast basics supplied by host in cottage. Feed the sheep and enjoy the free range eggs. Sky channels, free wifi, use of pool and lots of parking.
