Charming backyard cottage set in the historic Sanger-Heights neighborhood just 7 minutes from Magnolia by car and blocks from Downtown. Off-street parking and a private entrance to your own fenced yard. A pathway leads to a private patio with an outdoor seating area. The cottage includes a Queen sized bed, TV with Netflix, bathroom, bathtub and shower. It is located on our property adjacent to our home, and we are available as much or as little as you desire. Welcome to the Artist's Cottage!

The space
This newly renovated cottage is situated in a peaceful, backyard setting. Though it is quite small, only bedroom and bathroom, it's a cozy place to relax and call home base for your stay! It opens onto a tiled patio surrounded by a privacy fence that separates it from the backyard of the main house. Inside, the bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, desk and chair, cozy chair, and a mini fridge. The television includes access to Netflix via Roku (note: there is no channel/cable access, you are welcome to log in to any of your personal subscription services). A brand new heating and cooling unit can be controlled via remote to your specifications. The full bathroom is spacious with a dresser and small closet including a pull-out hang bar and hangers. You'll find it stocked with towels, washcloths, and a hair dryer.
We have recently (2024) upgraded furnishings in the cottage and are always improving upon the property.

The property has two driveways, one on each side of the house. The cottage's driveway is the one on the right. Once you park, you'll open the wooden gate the driveway leads to and follow the paver path to the patio. The door of the cottage opens from the patio via keypad. The cottage's yard is fenced off from ours, though a small gate leads between them. We keep this latched so that our dogs don't wander in.

Other things to note
We have a small elderly dog who you may observe snuffling around in our yard. He occasionally barks but is very friendly. We do have young children who love to play outside, so expect to hear kids from our yard and the neighborhood during your stay.
The keypad lock on the door will automatically lock every time it's closed, so be sure to flip the bolt on the inside or make sure you have your code before shutting it.

The German Schmear Cottage is tucked away on a quiet street in the Mountainview area. It is centrally located (HEB, Target, and Starbucks are right down the road) and only 10-15 minutes from downtown, the Silos, and Baylor.
Once a detached garage, this 400 square foot space is now a cozy, modern living space and is on the property of the main German Schmear (fixer upper) house, which is also a vacation rental. See pictures for more detailed information about the tiny house.

The space
This newly renovated tiny house offers a quaint living space, kitchen, full bathroom, large closet, and a lofted sleeping space. Refer to the pictures to see the staircase that leads to the loft, in which there is a queen mattress.
The cozy kitchen provides a full refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, a coffee maker, coffee, a toaster, and an electric stove (no dishwasher).
The full bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, cotton swabs, cotton pads, and a hair dryer.
The cafe lights create the perfect ambiance for the outdoor living area.

Please make yourself at home! If you need to use the fold out couch, all the linens and pillows that you might need are tucked away underneath the couch.
Extra bath towels are located in the closet and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook a delicious meal. The kitchen does not offer smaller appliances (ie. blender, food processor).
The AC unity is controlled from a remote - detailed instructions are available in the tiny house. The TV offers cable (there is not apple TV or a DVD player).
The staircase is completely safe to access the loft...however, it is very steep. Please be cautious. We do not recommend that children use this staircase.

Other things to note
The large picture windows in the tiny house look out onto the backyard that is exclusively for those who are renting out the main house on the property. Please only use the backyard that can be accessed through the french doors in the tiny house.
There is a gate that leads to the larger backyard space (the iron gate and the wooden gate) - please keep those gates closed.

This is a perfect private retreat for a couple, small family or a small group up to 4. Previous guests say “super cute”, “VERY clean”, “close to everything,” “perfect”.
The kids will love the bunk room built with them in mind. This unit sleeps a total of 4, but keep in mind the upper bunk bed has a weight limit of 160. If you can’t meet this limit, as an alternative there is a bed height inflatable mattress available.
Enter through a gate marked "Pine Cone Place.” Walk down the path and find a pink door. This is your private entrance to your 2 bedroom unit. 16 steps up and you'll be in an open concept living/kitchen/dining, creatively designed for fun, convenience & relaxation. You'll be able to enjoy books & games, watch some TV, play some music on the bluetooth speaker in the bathroom, or just relax and enjoy some quiet time. The kitchen is stocked with dishes/pans, etc. along with basic spices. Full size refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop and convection microwave are available for use (no oven). When you're ready for sleep, just a few steps down the hall is your bedroom with a king bed and separate bathroom. There is also a small bunk room just big enough for 2 twin beds and a desk. Want to enjoy the outside? You have full access to your own fenced off yard with patio, seating, and a fire pit. The house is very close to downtown and only steps from Cameron Park Zoo.
Your privacy is important to us as well as your security. For this reason, ring security features are located outside only.

We ask that you do not go upstairs above the living space as it stores components of the A/C unit. We also ask that you do not tamper or touch any tractors or equipment that are under the left awning connected to the shop. There is a property map on site that shows you the river access and the property lines to make sure you do not accidentally trespass.

The Guest House is a Studio layout. There is 1 Queen bed, and 1 sofa sleeper. As you enter the house, there is a long entry hallway that leads to the full bathroom, washer/dryer unit, cabinetry for storage. It opens in to the open space which is the full kitchen ready to cook in on your immediate right, then in to the main living space.
There is a kitchen counter for a dining area.
A dedicated work space.
2 closets for hanging and folding.
Behind the sofa, there is a private patio for outdoor dining and/or grilling.
Thru the kitchen, there is a backdoor with a pet door built in that leads to the outside fireplace and backyard. Mature pecan trees shelter you from the extreme sun and create a beautiful breeze.
Bathroom and Bedroom basics are provided.
Mini crib, high chair, toys and books are provided upon request.

Guest access
Guests are able to access the entirety of the Guest House. The fire pit area, and backyard is a share space.
