Spectacular piece of property, nestled on the west side of Lake Munson. On 2 acres of trees and manicured land, sits a lovely cabin with views of a beautiful lake with a private feel. The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It has two living areas with couches (main floor and basement). The basement is a walkout to backyard which leads to a stunning fire pit that looks out on the lake. There are also two dining areas to ensure quality family time. A full kitchen provides ample amount of ability to cook up what you would like. But in case you are not interested in cooking, you can get pizza delivered to this address as it is in town! Amenities such as grocery stores and restaurants are only a few minutes away! There is a dock installed that you can try to fish off, or bring a kayak or paddle board and explore the water! Our Cozy little cabin is the perfect getaway for all seasons. The sauna is an extra treat. The property is close to the tiny town of Osage and the Smokey Hills State Forest. The Shell River runs through the property providing the perfect relaxing background at the campfire. The large oaks provide beautiful green shade in the summer, an array of orange & yellow in the fall and a beautiful place for the frost and snow to settle in the winter.

Dining/Entertainment - Lake season always brings lots of activity to Detroit Lakes, so if you feel the need for dining, shopping, or events in the area, all the amenities of the city are within a 10 minute drive. Detroit Lakes offers a wide variety of events, shopping, parks, concerts, & restaurants that the entire family can enjoy. With some of the best downtown shops in the area & some great coffee shops and bars, it is sure to give you plenty to do, regardless of the weather. On Lake Sallie you can grab a bite to eat at the world famous Hotel Shoreham, or travel just a few miles to restaurants like Longbridge, Zorbaz, Bleachers, Brygge Taps & Tastes, Hub 41, Lakeside Tavern, The Fireside, & Spitfire Bar & Grill.

Boating - When you spend your vacation surrounded by water, it only makes sense that you’ll feel like boating! We have space for you to park your trailer & hook your own boat/pontoon up on either dock. You can also inquired about our rental pontoons, kayaks, paddle boards so you can spend time on the water. Once on the water, Lake Sallie has nearly 1300 acres of recreational boating & also has a boat access route to Little Detroit Lake through Dunton Locks Park! (boat tram open weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day)

Fishing - Fishing is great throughout the year, so if you do bring your fishing rig, it won’t take you long to find multi-species fishing opportunities. (walleyes, panfish, bass, pike, muskies) There are docks to tie up for the day on Lake Sallie or Lake Munson & there are several other lakes within minutes which offer a similar variety of multi-species fishing. (Rental of a fishing pontoon or guided fishing trips are also available)

Golfing - Whether you bring clubs for some serious golf or you just want to play a casual round, you have several golf options! Just around Lake Sallie you have the DL Country Club 18-hole course or their executive course, Lakeview which is their shorter 18-hole course. There are also a variety of other golf courses within a 15-20 minute drive. (Wildflower, Fair Hills, Forest Hills)

Biking - Having bikes onsite is nice because you can ride straight from the cabin on paved roads & find your way into town or discover many of the winding county roads that take you through Becker County. In only minutes you can explore one of many gravel/off-road options in the area or head 10 miles north to the DL Mountain Recreation Area; they have dedicated mountain biking trails you can ride to or rent bikes there if you prefer to go by car.

Basswood Lodge at Cotton Lake—A Wonderful Birding Destination
Perched upon a breezy bluff with a birds-eye view across sparkling Cotton Lake Basswood Lodge is a perfect getaway for the birder, nature lover, or for anyone who might enjoy a few days of tranquility and a place to reconnect with oneself and the natural world.
Basswood Lodge is actually nothing more than a traditional Minnesota lake cabin, one of thousands sprinkled around the land of 10,000 lakes; this one as quaint and cozy as you might remember a lake cabin of days gone by. She’s tucked within the hillside to blend harmoniously with oak, maple, birch and of course basswood trees—a forest that provides shelter from the west wind and gracefully frames the lake view. If you enjoy birds and bird watching you will never tire of Basswood’s lake-side deck, eye-level with the forest canopy. Take your morning coffee outdoors, warmed by the morning sun, surrounded by beautiful nature. In fact, after a morning or two like this you may find yourself completely at home.
On the inside, Basswood is spare but complete and finely finished with lovely Douglas fir flooring; warm, reclaimed wood paneling and clear pine windows and doors. Offsetting the subdued tones of abundant wood features, paint colors such as “Morning Light” and “Crystalline” lend brightness to the ceilings and certain walls. Our main level consists of the kitchen, living room and dining area, and the adjacent master bedroom and bathroom. On warm nights it is pleasant to sleep with the French doors open to the screen porch, and wake to loons calling and the conversations of morning birds. A ship’s ladder leads guests to the loft which we’ve furnished with one full size bed, one twin bed and ample seating. The loft is a nice place to read on a stormy day. A feature window captures eagle-eye views across Cotton Lake to forested Shelley Island. Guests who take the loft accomodations will enjoy their own full bath as well.
There is a pleasant footpath down to our sand and gravel beach and the clean swimming water of Cotton Lake. Bass fishing is good right from shore, and better from the end of our 32’ dock. Bring your own boat for the best Cotton Lake has to offer. Public access is easy at the state access straight across from our cabin. Best of all the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge south boundary is one mile up the county road. The refuge offers some of the best birding in Minnesota and is wonderful for day hikes, road bikes and captivating scenery. It is a slice of Minnesota the way it used to be, complete with virtually all the wildlife and tree species we were blessed with, including two rare species—trumpeter swan and gray wolf.
Our family looks forward to enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Cotton Lake for years to come. We would love to share our delightful lake cabin with like-minded and appreciative guests.

As a word of caution, Basswood Lodge is situated on a bluff overlooking Cotton Lake. The lake path is not long but just a little steep. The walkway to the cabin’s main level is also upward, along a stone pathway, and a short stair step. In other words, the cabin may not be entirely suitable for the elderly, infirm or disabled guests. On the other hand, Basswood Lodge is entirely suitable for children and adults in reasonably good shape. And as a side benefit, the hike to and from the lake will get your heart warmed up and pumping, so when you have to leave for home, you’ll go in better shape than when you arrived.

You feel like you’re more up North than you are and it’s just lovely! We availed ourselves to the Maple Beach Burgers on our last day and are happy to have made the short trip over. We used the state park boat ramp. It was a little further than the public launch, but was better for our boat. Every detail of the cabin has been thoughtfully considered and Debra and Pamela were the best hosts. Without a doubt, we WILL be back!"

- "Our family rented this cabin for a short winter getaway. The place is newly built and pristine—I think we must be some of the first renters. The entire experience was great! The owners are local and super easy to work with. The weather was mild for a Minnesota winter during our stay, so the kids were able to play outside—which was great. The cabin is the last house on the road and feels very secluded despite the fact it is within miles of a couple of towns and just down the road from a great little general store/cafe. It is surrounded on two sides by forest, and you can barely see the only neighbor’s house—we felt like we were in the wilderness. There is also a lot of wildlife in the area, which made the kids feel like they were in the middle of a Disney movie 😊. There is a huge bunk room on the upper level of the cabin with four beds, a couch and nice TV. The kids spent a lot of time up there, which gave the adults some much need quiet. We absolutely plan on renting this place again—hopefully in the summer when we can enjoy the water and the beach. We’re planning on inviting some extended family to join us since there is a ton of room. We didn’t even use two of the bedrooms during this trip."

We love Ottertail. Ottertail is a big, yet relatively quiet, lake. It is very boat friendly, with almost all of it being easily navigable. We come every year for 2 weeks around the 4th. Its our favorite time of year! So chill. Just relax by the water, either riverside or RIGHT on the lake.

Our Little Red Ottertail Lake cabin is a 3 bedroom sleeping up to 7, and it has 2 full shared baths (both are showers, sink, toilet, there are no tubs).

Yes, you can get to the water either off the roll-in (in the water all season) dock OR directly from the sand/rock beach. Nice. AND a fire ring on the beach for those evenings you want your smores.

RIVERSIDE FISHING PLATFORM AND DOCK/MANUAL LIFT
More? Yep. Our property extends from the lake to the river, and on the river... fishing platform and boat dock with manual lift! Got BOAT? Dump her in the water, and keep her on property, sheltered in the channel. So nice! The lift is setup for a fishing type boat, up to about 18' or so, and you can alternatively snug up a pontoon on the west side of the dock.

PLEASE let us know AHEAD OF ARRIVAL, directly communicating once booked, and ensure we have replied, that you will have a boat. You can't take a trailer to the cabin (trust me, not a fun thing), BUT we have easy options nearby, just coordinate! We send messages about this too, automagically, so be sure once booked you are receiving our direct communications.

Oh, and kiddos love to walk to the bridge at the bend in Ottertail River and tub back to the lake house (the current will take them to the front side of the cabin, in the lake, or pop off by the riverside dock platform. Repeat to exhaustion. The true brave at heart depart the bridge by jumping off! Fishing off the bridge is common too.

THINGS WE LOVE
So our first love is... chillin' on the lake, but.... things that we miss as soon as we leave include:

Williams Store. Bike ride to coffee (or drive...), smoothies, sandwiches, and more. This place is the best. Its a daily bike ride for my wife, kiddos and me. Plus the owners are super awesome! Say 'hi!' to Dan & Marnie.
Ottertail Fitness Garage. Workout? Ottertail has the Fitness Garage. Full facility, including cardio and free weights. Highly recommend!
Zorbaz. Pizza place RIGHT on Ottertail. Take a boat ride over, tie up there, or drive... or for the more adventuresome, its a doable, if longish, bike ride too!

And there is a lot of nearby golf, a smattering of stores and restaurants in Ottertail that are well worth a stop, and field trips to Perham and other areas are worth a half day or more. Just inquire. We know the area, love the area, happy to help you love it too!

SETTING & LAKE
Welcome to your blissful secluded stay on Blueberry Lake. Once folks settle in after a day or so of arriving, the thing they say over and over is “I can’t believe how quiet, still, and peaceful it is here.” Blueberry Lake is miles from highly trafficked roads and the cabin is situated off a cul-de-sac, so it makes for a remarkably quiet experience. Amid near silence we often hear loons, frogs, owls, beavers thwacking their tails, and splashes from jumping fish. On moonless nights it is very, very dark which makes for excellent stargazing from the yard, dock, boat, or paddleboard.

A private dock provides access to 87-acre 47 feet deep Blueberry Lake which has NEAR PERFECT WATER-SKIING CONDITIONS. Blueberry Lake has minimal boat traffic and is surrounded by enormous wind blocking trees, wave absorbing reeds and lily pads. All combine to create world-class conditions for long, stress-free sessions from dawn to dusk. We also enjoy swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, or just floating in the bay. There is excellent fishing (so we’ve been told). Walleye, Large Mouth Bass, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Black Crappie, and Bluegill are on the menu. The public boat launch is directly across from our dock on the north side of the lake.

GREAT ROOM, KITCHEN & COOKING
The GREAT ROOM has a panoramic view of the lake from the comfort of powered recliners and a wood burning fireplace for those extra cold winter nights. An exquisitely crafted live-edge walnut table with four chairs provides a great place for meals while enjoying a full view of the lake. Lastly, there is a TV with streaming services available set atop a kennel for your dog(s).

KITCHEN & COOKING. This kitchen is modest in design, highly functional, and well equipped; the appliances are NEW or in new condition. Starting with the larger appliances, it has a gas range & oven, microwave, and a large modern fridge. For the smaller appliances, it has a toaster, crockpot, hand mixer, Keurig (pod & pot), Ninja blender, and an air fryer – All NEW. It also has NEW pots and pans of all types and sizes, bakeware, cutlery, utensils, mixing bowls, and cutting boards. If grilling or smoking is something you like to do, we have both options – propane and wood pellets included.

There is ample counter space in this tidy kitchen with great views of the lake while you and your sous chef are prepping on the island. The plates, bowls (S/M/L), silverware, glasses (pint, rocks, and snifter) designs are simple, sturdy, and clean. The dishwasher is rock-solid and cleans dishes very well. WARNING: THE SINK DOES NOT HAVE GARBAGE DISPOSAL. All wastewater is captured by a septic system that does not tolerate food waste. Sink strainers are used to capture food waste in the sink.

BEDROOMS
The UPSTAIRS BEDROOM is oversized and adjoined by a bathroom, equipped with a vanity, toilet, and bidet. This large loft has a NEW luxuriously sized king bed covered by plush cozy linens and includes nightstands, a large dresser, and plenty of room for an airbed on the floor for extra sleeping space. Two large windows provide a good bit of natural light to brighten up the room, or the drapes can be shut for lower lighting.

The DOWNSTAIRS BEDROOMS have NEW queen beds covered by plush cozy linens. Also included are nightstands and cellular blinds that can be drawn if a lie-in is in order (west BR blinds are blackout). Both bedrooms have dressers and closets, stocked with extra blankets and pillows for cold nights and added comfort.

FAMILY ROOM
The FAMILY ROOM is very spacious, furnished with a couch, loveseat, recliner, game table and four chairs, and gas fireplace. This is a perfect place to lounge, relax, play games, take a nap, celebrate holidays and birthdays, or accommodate extra overnight guests on the floor with airbeds. When the door is closed, noise from the FAMILY ROOM is blocked from getting to the bedrooms. Guests or kids can whoop all night long in there and no one in the main cabin areas will hear it.

BATHROOMS
The DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM is adjacent to the bedrooms and living area. It is equipped with a nicely tiled shower/tub, vanity, medicine cabinet, towel closet, washer/dryer, toilet, bidet, and NEW maple floors. The UPPER BATHROOM is adjoined to the upstairs bedroom and is equipped with a vanity, toilet, and bidet.

OUTDOORS
The dock is accessed by a gently sloped well maintained boardwalk. Nighttime walks to and from the dock are guided by tiny minutely lit string lights that indicate the boardwalk handrail. The gas grill is on the patio just outside the kitchen door, accompanied by pairs of gliding and Adirondack chairs. The patio, yard, and fire pit areas have the best lake views and remain shaded for most of the day by 100-foot pines, birches, maples, oaks, and the cabin. A snug fire is always nice at day’s end. Seating around the firepit is plentiful and comfortable – four Adirondack chairs, a bench near the firepit, and six folding chairs ensure that everyone has a comfortable seat around the fire for smores, drinks, or conversation. If you’re pooped or just need a 20-minute catnap, lay in one of the four hammocks, or play any of the yard games we have.

KEYLESS ENTRY. PARKING. ROAD.
KEYLESS ENTRY. A keypad is used to unlock/lock the patio door or garage man door. A unique code is set for each guest (key provided if keypad malfunctions). PARKING. There are AT LEAST four parking spaces for full-sized cars, trucks, or SUVs; two south of the patio and two in the driveway. The patio spaces also serve as a turnaround. ROAD.

SMOKING. Smoking or vaping (tobacco & clove cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vape pens, marijuana products, incense, etc.) on the property or in the house is not permitted and will result in loss of rental privileges and damage deposit.

On top of the pet fee, there will be an additional fee starting at $150 if we deem there is damage to the property regarding your pets stay.

★ PONTOON INCLUDED (during season) 20' Odyssey pontoon with 40HP motor on covered lift with power winch. If pontoon is inoperable for repairs or otherwise, rental rate can be discounted by $50.00/day (unless damaged by renter).
★ BOAT LIFT INCLUDED (during season) A boat lift is also available with power winch, limited to max 2,500 pound boat/motor/gear/persons.

OTTER TAIL COUNTY VHR NOISE ORDINANCE
• Quiet hours are from10:00 pm to 7:00 am. No loud music, screaming/yelling, etc.
• No parties are allowed; this includes bachelor/bachelorette, etc.
• Noise complaints will result in fines and citations from local law enforcement
