This unique and cozy cabin is located approx 19 miles north of Valdez on the Richardson Highway at the base of Thompson Pass. This accommodation offers world class access to “The Snow Capitol of Alaska”. Allwheel/4x4 is mandatory in winter. Others may ski, snowmobile or walk the access road. In summer (may-oct) the access is a gravel road that any car/truck can drive.

The location is a highlight of this listing. You are minutes away from Thompson Pass and Keystone Canyon.

The only "issue"(not a problem you can't overcome) is the loft ladder is too steep for pets to climb. Built in 1996 with logs brought into town, this is a perfect Chalet layout. Coming through the covered front porch, the front door opens to a vaulted living room, open to the dining and kitchen. A large breakfast bar in the kitchen allows for comfortable seating while entertaining. The sliding door off the dining room brings you out to the back patio and the sizable fenced yard, where the mountain views abound. Back off the side of the kitchen is a full bathroom, and this floor also contains a large laundry room off the garage and a bedroom with open logs and tongue and groove walls.

​​​​​​​Head up the stairs to a full bathroom, a bedroom with plenty of storage and closet space that tucks all the way back. There is balcony area that could be an open office, sitting area, or additional guest space. It overlooks the living room and captures a good amount of natural light. This property is located on a peaceful dead end road and is in walking distance to the bay, close to lots of trails, and located right on the river bed. Downtown Valdez is just a short distance away.

- "The cabin was just what we wanted! It was beautiful and the location was great. Beds were super comfortable and linens/houseware items were amazing! The only issues we had was with the downstairs bathroom. The water would not stay the same temperature and the knobs for the shower were crazy. Also there was a leak with the toilet that was not noticed until the end of our stay. I had very poor communication with the property manager. I actually sent him a message concerning the toilet leak because it is messing up the beautiful wood in the bathroom. He never responded and still have not heard from him. There were no check out instructions so I hope we did everything we were supposed to."

The space
This uniquely built vertical log mountain cabin was built to support a backcountry ski touring business and provide lodging. Guests from all around the world travel here each winter season to experience the “Snow Capitol of Alaska”. It’s located on 2.7 acres next to the Lowe River in the Heiden View Subdivision just past the Valdez city limits.

The cabin has a main floor and a double loft. There is a full size bed on the big loft and a twin bed on the smaller loft. Both lofts are accessed by a ship-ladder type stairs that are steep for some so be sure climbing stairs is in your ability. There is a huge couch someone can crash on too. It will sleep 4 pretty comfortably if a couple utilizes the full sized bed. Pets are welcome, there is even a doggy bed!

Guest access
You will have full access to the entire cabin, there is parking in front of the cabin. You can utilize the meadow in back of the cabin and access state lands from the property.

Other things to note
In the winter months an all wheel drive vehicle is almost necessary although you can walk, ski, snowmobile into the property via the plowed .25 mile access. There is a moderate hill that requires all wheel drive to get up when weather conditions make it icy or fresh fallen snow. The road is plowed and maintained year round.
