Our North Pole Cabin Retreat is a great place to come for a day, a week, or a month or more. A person can experience life in Alaska in comfort. Our log cabin was built in 2002 and has had many guests over the years. We provide housing year round, and winter or summer the cabin is warm, dry, and safe. Running water is a must, as are clean comfortable beds. The cabin has two queen beds, kitchenette, full private bath, BBQ and picnic area outside. Parking is nearby. We are only 2 miles from grocery, dentist, medical, gas stations, gift shops, dining establishments, churches and bars. Although you are close to the comforts of everyday living, it will seem as if you are a long way out in the woods. We are located in a private, wooded property with a waterway flowing by. In summer there are many nesting ducks. There are many wild flowers growing all around, as well as hanging baskets of flowers we plant for your enjoyment.

- "This place is legit! We were in Fairbanks to visit family and needed a palce to stay. The cabin is in a great location. It’s far enough from Fairbanks to be out of the city but close enough that it doesn’t take long to drive there. The location is beautiful. The cabins are along the Chena River, and the friendly property owners told us we were welcome to hang out by the river and use the fire pits. The cabin has great Alaska charm with all the amenities. It has two floors with plenty of space for our family of four. The bathrooms are nice, and the kitchen is well-appointed for cooking meals. Upstairs, the primary bedroom has a balcony that was nice for sitting on and viewing the river. Most important, the cabin was clean! This is the main way we judge VRBOs. There were plenty of towels and other items. The check-in process was also simple. We received a text telling us the cabin was ready and we were able to walk in and start our stay. If you’re looking for a place to stay close to Fairbanks with at Alaska charm that is clean and cozy, this is your place!"

The cabin is located in the mountains without any artificial light pollution. You'll sleep in the quiet attic, with plenty of space downstairs for you to enjoy your trip with friends and family.
During your stay in our cabin, we also offer another cabin right next to it with six huge glass windows facing the north. Your field of mountain view exceeds 180°. It can be said that you can enjoy Lady Aurora dancing in the sky while you are holding a cup of hot chocolate and sitting in the cabin. Please feel free to enjoy some tea, hot chocolate, coffee, snacks, and cup noodles provided in the cabin. There are also table games, karaoke, projector movies provided and BBQ/Hot pot equipment as you requested.

Whatever you are looking to visit Alaska for, come enjoy a little slice of heaven in this little studio cabin. Please note that it is about 15 mins from town and an hour from Chena Hot Springs. Again, this is a DRY cabin. If you don't know what that is, this might not be the place for you to stay.
Child Friendly
The peace, quiet and fresh air will envelop you with tranquility but invite you to explore what’s just outside the door. Have morning coffee on the deck to leisurely start your day then sit around the fire at night while you relive the days adventures. It’s far enough from the city lights for northern lights viewing when they’re out.
No smoking of any kind on the premises at all.
We’re only 4.4 miles the airport.
The space
We provide the total Alaska experience. This is an opportunity to stay in a dry cabin. Water is provided for cleaning, cooking and washing but there is no running water. The outhouse is clean and quaint with electricity, providing lights and a heater if needed. This cabin is hexagonal and measures 15.5 feet from corner to opposite corner.
No smoking of any kind on the premises at all.
Guest access
We’ve added a pack and play crib and two Army Cots for additional guests for $10 each for the entire stay. Let us know if you need linens.
Other things to note
We have security cameras to monitor the parking area only. Access from the parking area to the cabin is a walk through the woods with a slight to moderate incline. This property is in no way wheelchair accessible. The cabin is on the outside edge of Fairbanks with a decent view of the river below and mountains in the far distance. As one can see from the photos, the cabin is surrounded by trees but just past the trees are other homes and cabins.
No smoking of any kind on the promises at all.

Welcome to the Nuthatch, a cozy cabin in the woods outside Fairbanks. This dog-friendly little cabin is just 7 miles from town but surrounded by the boreal forest. This is glamping at its best, a solid roof, warm place, bed, WiFi, and tv. This is a “dry” cabin, with an outhouse but no running water (no shower. Look out for wildlife and northern lights or roast a s’more over the campfire.
If you have more guests, there is an additional cabin on the property "Come Visit the Warbler", holds four.
The space
The Nuthatch is on a property with two other cabins. It is located closest to the road. The cabin adjacent to the Nuthatch is not currently a living space.

Please feel free to have a fire in the fire pit if there is no burn ban on (we will let you know if there is). The cabin has six steps to the porch and a gravel path to the outhouse.

We love being able to travel with our dog and want to be able to offer that to our guests. Dogs are welcome but please don’t leave them alone inside the cabin if they are prone to anxiety. Please dispose of pet waste in the outside trash and keep heavy shedders off of the furniture. Reach out to me if you have a pet that isn't a canine. Thanks!

Along with that there are buckets under the sink to catch the water that goes down it. Once the buckets are full they will need to be dumped outside the cabin, on the side by the outhouse.

May 2025: The Toyo oil stove has recently been examined and adjusted to respond to a few guests who have mention a fuel smell. While not dangerous, a blocked air exchange vent created an unpleasant smell. All resolved now!
** At times during the winter, AWD or 4WD is REQUIRED.
The space
Although close to town, the cabin is located on a five acre lot, with a small pond that often attracts wildlife... moose, ducks, fox ...

Welcome to the Caribou Cabin! This is a DRY cabin! Outhouse toilet and no running water!
If you’re looking for a cozy cabin nestled in the snow covered trees with a convenient drive to town, this is it! Caribou Cabin is located near UAF and several outdoor rec areas as well as the west end of Fairbanks. This cabin is at the end of a quiet residential road and shares the property with a residence. This space is hunter/fisher friendly and perfect for those that just want a quiet place to sleep!
This little log cabin gives guests an authentic Alaskan experience of "damp" (running water at the sink, heated outhouse, no shower) cabin living with all the creature comforts in a cozy spot nestled in the woods. It's close to town, but far enough away to see auroras in the dark winter skies. Close to trails and local entertainment and food, but you just might see a moose walk by.
The space
The cabin is one room and has a full kitchen, bar-height dining table with two chairs, loveseat, queen size bed, small Toyo stove that keeps things toasty, parking for two cars.
The kitchen has all the amenities to assist with meal prep -- coffee maker, microwave, full range with two ovens, pans, service ware, and basic oils/herbs/etc. The sink has limited running water with under-sink tanks that you change as needed. We supply the water. The sink drains via a gray line, so we ask you to wipe all dishes prior to washing. There are pointers for damp/dry cabin living at the cabin. Cell phone reception is good and WiFi is great -- easy streaming. There is no local TV reception, but the smart TV is ready for all your services, so you can sign in and view. There are DVDs and a player. There is one queen-sized bed, so we limit guests to two. There is an outhouse just off one end of the porch that is lit and heated via a timer inside the cabin. A security light illuminates the parking area and you can plug your car in when it's below zero. A Ring doorbell is present with a camera outside the front door.
Children: Smaller children are welcome. A $10 fee per night is attached to every person above the base single, including children old enough to walk. We don't provide child-oriented sleeping arrangements, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Heat: A small Toyo stove heats the interior very quickly and thoroughly. There are directions for use at the cabin. A small fan is provided for warm summer nights.
About dry/damp cabin living: Dry/damp cabin living isn't for everyone, but Fairbanks is a semi-urban epicenter of this unusual cultural phenomenon. Dry cabin dwellers typically use stove-heated water to wash up and house clean, but do not shower daily. When they desire a hot shower, they go to the gym or laundromat and purchase one for a small fee. Within a 10-minute drive from the cabin, there are two options for showers, each costing around $5. Outhouses have their own protocol and instructions are at the cabin. Essentially, you don't put anything in the outhouse hole that didn't originate biologically from your own body. That being said, a waste can is provided in the outhouse for everything else. Note -- the outhouse at this property is HEATED... that is very fancy.
Long-term guests: If you are staying with us for a couple weeks or more, we will ask you to haul your own trash and get your own water. We supply instructions for the water fill location and the trash transfer site. You can get the real experience of living in Interior Alaska!
Fees: Honestly, we don't like them. Your nightly rental includes the 8% borough bed tax we must pay and and cleaning costs we incur. That being said, we don't ask you to do extra cleaning before you go, but we do ask you to leave it like you found it. We can't do anything about the company's fees, but we can do something about ours. We will, however, send a request for funds for missing items, damage beyond normal use, if biohazard waste is left behind or if house rules are broken requiring extended cleaning. (You wouldn't believe was some people are capable of... whew.) Please only book for yourself— no third-party bookings, as this protects both of us when we know who you are when you show up. And please account for all guests. There is a a fee for each guest. If you book for one, for instance, we will only expect one guest.
Guest access
The cabin is on a property with another, so guests only have access to their cabin and outhouse. There is a large gray Shelterlogic on the property that guests do not have access to.
Other things to note
During winter you will have to plug your car in. We supply one cord. Your rental company should supply you with one or you can purchase one at the grocery store. Please don't take ours off-property.
For longer term guests, we offer discounts and negotiate water and trash removal assistance. We find that longer term guests usually want to be more self-sufficient and have fewer interruptions from hosts.
We allow instant bookings from folks with good reviews. If you have no reviews or negative ones, you will need to send a request.
Due to some unfortunate adventures in renting, we also require the following of guests: 1) Confirm your ID with Airbnb. 2) Have a profile photo (we need to know it's you when you check in). 3) Book only for you-- not your client or your colleague or your friend (third party bookings are against Airbnb policy and put us at risk... don't use your grandpa's account; get your own).
Traveling with others? If there are three or four of you traveling together, check out our other listing, 'the little blue cabin in the woods,' on the same parcel.

The Cabin Story began as a means to an end. We are building a house and needed to stay on site. We purchased one cabin and then built another one. My husband and I had the main cabin and our 3 girls + 2 dogs shared the other one. We now offer it up as a '2 bedroom' cabin...with a short walk outside between rooms and outhouse. Yes, outhouse. We managed to live here for 2 years. We are not suggesting that...but a weekend or week. Totally fun.

Both cabins and outhouse are yours to use and yours alone. Our house is further down the driveway as well as a path to the river.

Welcome! A Quick Note About the Heat 🔥
Our home is heated with a Toyo stove, which runs on fuel oil and are commonly used in Alaska and other cold climates. They’re very efficient once warmed up, but may be a little different if you’ve never used one before.
🔧 How to Use the Toyo Stove:
• Power On/Off: please do not turn the unit off. You can turn the temperature down if you get hot.
• Adjust Temperature: Use the up/down arrows to set your desired room temperature (we recommend somewhere between 65–68°F for comfort).
• Be Patient: After turning it on, it may take 10–15 minutes to start blowing warm air, especially if the unit has been off.
• Leave It On: Please don’t turn the unit on and off repeatedly—it’s more efficient and easier on the system to leave it running.
⚠️ A Few Quick Notes:
• The stove runs on fuel oil, so you may hear a soft hum or clicking while it’s running—this is totally normal. The unit does a daily cleaning cycle and can sometimes have a faint diesel smell- this is a normal part of the Toyo’s operation.
• Please don’t place any items on or too close to the stove, as it can get hot during operation.
• If the unit doesn’t turn on or shows an error message, let us know right away—we’re happy to help!
A note about the hot water heater:
The home is equipped with a standard hot water heater. That means after a long shower or extended hot water use (like doing dishes or laundry), it can take 20–30 minutes or so for the hot water to fully heat up again.
We recommend spacing out showers when possible so everyone gets a warm one.

You might see red fox, moose or birds, and when lucky in winter - the aurora. My house is only 15 minutes (7 miles) from the Fairbanks International Airport and 3 miles from the University of Alaska. You can hike or ski the birch woods, catch a trail for human power to UAF, bus at Farmer's Loop Road, try taxi or I can pick you up at the airport for a small fee.
Guest access
You will have use of the front porch, living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom and basement with laundry and space for gear sorting, etc. The first floor is wheelchair accessible with a ramp and bathroom but the bedrooms upstairs are not. The basement is wheelchair accessible from the driveway.
During your stay
This is a room in my log home. The upstairs where Twin Room is located is private for the guests. You share the rest of the cabin (living / dining room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and outside space.
I love sharing our great community and the boreal forest. Let me know if you need ideas when planning your trip to Fairbanks - the gateway to the Arctic, Denali National Park and the vast Interior in the Yukon River watershed. I love meeting travelers from near or far away and understand sometimes a peaceful log cabin is the perfect get away too.
Other things to note
Covid-19 Fully vaccinated. To comply with Fairbanks North Star Borough rules, 8% bed tax based on Airbnb room rate / fees recieved by me will be charged separately upon your arrival.

Unique hand built log cabin. My wife and I built it ourselves in 2005 for a gift store which we ran until we started having kids. Some Alaskan artwork is displayed in the cabin. We've added a bathroom, a kitchen and a covered and screened-in porch in the front. The location is great for the Fairbanks area.
The space
Hand built log cabin close to Ester, Fairbanks, UAF and the airport. Very convenient location for this area. Has a queen bed and a sofa downstairs. Upstairs is an enclosed loft. Full kitchen with dining table, outdoor porch is covered and screened. The place has also a large bathroom.
Guest access
Guests have access to the whole cabin. We will provide a key and they can arrive anytime they choose.
Other things to note
I think you will enjoy the privacy and convenience of this location. It is located conveniently near the Parks Highway but it has a privacy fence and covered porch. Just up the short road is public land with many trails.
A safe and cozy cabin setting just a few miles outside of Fairbanks with beautiful views of Goldstream looking north. The summers are wonderful with trees and wild grass surrounding the area. Come winter time, we have spectacular Aurora (Northern Lights) viewing given the nights weather conditions are optimal for said viewing. I have a front porch with a propane grill that is excellent for outdoor dining.
There are also moose that wander around. Maybe you can luck out and get to see them!
The space
Newly renovated, corian countertops, new bathroom, all new flooring and brand new furniture! In the cabin is a full size bed in its own room and a twin in the loft area. There is a 65" TV with a Playstation 4 and a snes mini for those retro players.
Guest access
The entire cabin is yours to use and the property is free for you to wander around, just be mindful of moose that may be grazing about. There are birds all summer that sing throughout the day.
