Hale Honu was just completed in September of 2014 and was designed to fit in with it’s historic neighborhood and the ancient Hawaiian Village that borders the backyard. Outside is a barbeque grilling area and a beautiful double garden shower accessible from either the guest bath or from outdoors. The open floor plan has a living room that opens up to the oversized covered lanai through expansive retractable glass doors. This allows the indoor and outdoor space to truly become one. - "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well-maintained cottage situated on an acre and a half of a tropical garden. The interior was very comfortable and clean. The owner lived nearby, and was always willing to help make her stay more comfortable. Here are some things to consider if you're thinking about staying here: It's in a great location too, just 20 minutes from Hanalei (the tourist hub of the north shore). The nearest town is Kilauea, which is way less touristy, which we enjoyed. The chickens are loud and will wake all but the heaviest sleepers up in the morning, but we didn't mind so much since it made the jet lag going back home not as bad. The loft has a couple air mattresses, so theoretically more than 2 could stay here, but it might be a tight squeeze. It is a true bungalow––kitchen, bed, and couch are all in the same room. The TV is very small and can only be viewed from the couch. It's only a minor inconvenience, but if you like to watch TV on your vacations, then this probably isn't the place for you (nor is Kauai in general, for that matter 😂). The exterior color on the house is not as vibrant as the pictures make it seem, but the view of the lush vegetation and sunset colors make any house's colors pale in comparison. All in all, GREAT experience and would absolutely use this spot again."

When inside of the house you have direct view of the ocean on the front side and then a front row seat to boogie boarders and surfers at Brennecke's. Brennecke is connected to Poipu beach and is a 5min walk through a grassy park. Food options and restaurants are all walkable. The house itself was perfect for our family. 2 bathrooms with showers, W/D, dishwasher, AC in the bedrooms!, and well laid out kitchen and family room. Furnishings were mostly modern unlike many VRBOs which are stuck in the 90s. Other surprises which are so important to make a stay comfortable - the kitchen was well stocked with dishware and utensils that didn't look like random hand-me-downs. They actually matched. The condiments, spices, oils and coffees available for us to use was helpful. New appliances! The patio and lanai are amazing. It was recently re-done with trex-like material. The front lanai has a long eat-in table and then there's a bar which all looks directly at the ocean 30ft away. We drank our coffee and had breakfast out here. Soaking in the hot tub during the day and evening on the side patio was just incredible. Again, head on view of the ocean. Most of all, the owner (Bob) and property manager (Vicki) really care about the guests. If you're hesitant spending the money on this, as we were, just know that it is worth it!"

Furniture and furnishings are oriental and island-style, with some antiques and original art.

For those who enjoy using the internet, we offer high speed Spectrum WI-FI, by Kauai standards. We average 200mbs speed. Keep in mind that internet speed here is not necessarily the equivalent here of what you may experience, or become used to, in mainland urban areas. There is plenty of bandwidth for most visitors, and we encourage you to slow yourself down and relax into Kauai time. :)

As a special perk, the cottage now comes with a Tandem Kayak, complete with paddles, backrests, life preservers and car roof rack, perfect for jungle river adventures on Kauai's numerous waterways. That's WAY fun and easy, even if you have never kayaked before!

We also provide boogie boards to our guests, Some snorkel gear may be available, but we recommend arranging for snorkel gear rental to insure a proper fit.

There are laundry facilities and a full indoor bathroom, as well as a hot and cold outdoor shower for washing the sand off when returning from Kahili-Quarry beach, which is just down the road, or any other one of the 10 world class beaches nearby.

There are a myriad of world class beaches close nearby. Kahili Quarry Beach is within walking distance, or you may zip down with your rental car. Kalihiwai Beach and the trailhead to Secret Beach are just 6-7 minutes away. Also nearby are Anini Beach, Hideaways, Waiakalua (wanna be all alone on a tropical beach?) and the beaches of Hanalei Bay.

The scenic Kilauea Lighthouse is minutes away...

As a longtime farm family we welcome you to come enjoy our place. You may walk around the property as long as you follow 3 rules: 1) Do NOT stand below coconut trees 2) Do not approach any buildings other than your cottage, and 3) do not engage our workers in conversation. They love to chat, but we need them to work :)

As a long-time, nearly 40 year resident farmer, I offer private farm tours to parties of up to 4 in size, for $100 per hour. I can provide a brief overview in one hour, but a more in-depth tour can last for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Consistent trade breezes keep you cool and refreshed although, to be on the safe side, we have installed a decorative tropical ceiling fan in the bedroom.

The cottage is fully screened.

When looking at a map of Kauai, use the Kilauea Lighthouse as a locator- it is the northernmost point on the island, and your cottage is about 1.5 miles to the southeast. The location is convenient- close to restaurants, bakeries, 2 farmer's markets each week, and fun shopping. It is an easy drive further west to Princeville (10 minutes) or Hanalei (15 minutes) yet not far the other direction to the East and South sides and to Waimea Canyon on the West side.

Because many guests have found difficulty arranging a reasonably priced rental car (the BEST way to explore Kauai) at reasonable rates, we often offer a Ford Escape SUV to our guests. If this possibility sounds of interest please inquire, after you make your booking.

So many things, but to name a few: - Hanalei and the surrounding areas boast regular top rankings for their beautiful beach (Hanalei Bay), spectacular volcanic mountains with cascading 3,000+ foot-long waterfalls, walking, hiking and biking trails (famous Na Pali Coast), and the nearby Prince Golf Course in Princeville. - One of the best things about Hanalei is that there are no hotels, no condos, and very few sidewalks as we enjoy the rural and more quiet atmosphere; Hanalei is a small tropical town with a fun surfing vibe. - The restaurants and other small businesses are mainly family owned/local establishments that will adequately and pleasantly meet your needs during your stay! What do I love about Tutu’s Cottage? Tutu’s Cottage has a welcoming home-away-from-home feel for your visit to tropical Hanalei. With a fantastic location, you will be within WALKING DISTANCE to both the BEACH (5 min.) and center of TOWN (3 min). Our cottage has two lanais, with the backyard lanai having an unobstructed, breathtaking view of the Hanalei mountains (after a rain, you will see beautiful waterfalls cascading down the mountains). The kitchen is well equipped, the yard is very private (no neighbors behind our cottage), and I should mention the outdoor shower (with hot water) – you will love this after your day at the beach! We only showered in the outdoor shower, it was peaceful, private & had beautiful views. My favorite part of the house! We cooked & grilled multiple nights over our 2 week stay, and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need. House came with comfortable beach chairs, boogie boards, cooler, buckets/toys & a beach buggy to carry it all, made it a breeze to go to the beach... which we did everyday. - "My wife and I stayed here in February '22 while she was pregnant with our first child. We brought our daughter back in July of '23 and wanted to stay at this same place. We love the beach cottage. It's so charming. We love the location, and we love the short (3 min) walk to Black Pot Beach to watch the sunrise over Hanalei Bay. - "My husband and I stayed in Kauai for 4 nights and could not have picked a better place to stay! We stayed at the canal cottage. Paul keeps a well maintained property and our cottage was clean and very tidy. It was spacious, well stocked with all the kitchen gadgets you could need, the beds were so comfortable and the best part was two full bathrooms! Paul and his wife are wonderful hosts; they attended to every detail from bed linens and towels to beach supplies and laundry facilities. The grounds were very private and we felt like we were at home. The bbq grill was great to have to have the option to dine in. Paul's wife also makes homemade indian dishes that you can order. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to try it but I am sure it would have been wonderful! Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer! The location is absolutely perfect... right in the middle of the east coast of the island makes the drive north or south easy. I would not want to stay in any other location. Moloaa Bay Cottage is located in Moloaa just steps away from a white sand beach.

The Cottage: At the south end of the property near the entrance is a detached separate 2nd story guest house consisting of 994 square feet of air-conditioned living area with 1 bedroom + den and loft/1 bath. On your return from the beach, shower off in the new outdoor lava rock hot & cold shower.
The cottage may be rented separately or along with the main home. The location is very private and cozy, exquisitely furnished, and fully appointed. There are ocean views from the cottage. Here you can experience the casual Hawaiian elegance that typifies the spirit of Kaua'i.

The space
The Kalaheo Cottage is located near the road's end in a quiet and private rural residential section of Kalaheo. This 600 square ft. one bedroom tropical island cottage sleeps 2 guests and is ideal for couples.

The Lauhala bedroom features a King size bed and has plenty of closet space. The cottage has one bathroom which features a tub style shower and vanity.

Although we have some amazing restaurants on island, you will have the luxury of cooking in our fully equipped kitchen. Watch the sunset and enjoy your dinner on our spacious lanai. The full size washer and dryer will help you keep up with laundry during your stay.

After adventuring around the island, the outside shower is a relaxing way to end your day.

The location of Kalaheo is perfect for the Kauai traveler who wants to be in a central area where the rest of the island can be easily accessed. The nearby town of Kalaheo has several good restaurants and a market and is adjacent to the island's main highway.

The space
When you open the front door, you'll see a beautiful newly tiled floor, large living room with new leather furniture, island style dining room and big flat screen TV. A well appointed kitchen with side-by-side frig, stove with glass top, new dishwasher and micro makes cooking pleasant. You will find books, games, CDs and puzzles in the TV cabinet.

You will wake up to a beautiful view from each bedroom.
There are California king beds in two of the newly decorated bedrooms. The third bedroom, also newly done, has two double beds and a large dressing area making this suite inviting. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with new walk-in showers in the king bedrooms and a tub/shower in the double bedroom. All vanities have under mount sinks with a new vanity topped by granite. All bedrooms have sitting areas and HD TVs so you can read your book or relax privately should you choose, away from the main living areas. 4104 and 4106 bedrooms also have coffee pots and small refrigerator as well as private entrances. Each bedroom it's own AC as well as private lanai.
For a daily fee per party, you have the amenities of the resort for your use. The beautiful lagoon pool, hot tub, swim up bar, small pool, fire pit lounge area, fitness center, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, barbecues, and Monday mai tai parties will make you want to stay forever!

• Happy Talk Lounge (great view off lobby, live music 6nights/week)

• Laundry facilities, ice machines near our units... Please use the full size washer and dryer for heavy or SANDY loads as it will work more efficiently than our smaller stackable machines in 4105.
• Nightly security. Call front desk if your neighbors are not observing quiet hours or are smoking on lanai.
• Grills and eating area by small pool or tennis house
• Check front desk and check in packet for daily events like mai tai party
• Concierge Service call 826-6522 extension 8222 for activity and restaurant info. You can call in advance of arrival to get more info on activities available.
• Pool Bar features some wonderful music most afternoons—check times and limited food options (will reinstate soon)

Other things to note
Check in time is 4:00 p.m. and check out is 10:00 a.m. You may be able to get into the unit earlier if it is ready. Note the resort charges a one time $50- reservation fee, a $25. daily resort fee (covers fresh beach towels daily, tennis, front desk service, free wifi, etc.) and a $20-/day parking fee per car, which you will pay at check out. We have free coffee in the morning by the check in area. If you wish to stay around the resort after checkout at 10, you can get clean beach towels at the front desk and pay a small fee so you can shower later and enjoy the hospitality room for a small fee-ask front desk person for details. HBR charges $20-/day for parking.

The bellman will take you to the unit in a golf cart after you park. We provide a starter supply of toilet paper, soap, tissues, paper towels and try to leave a few staples (salt, pepper, sugar, catsup, etc.)
No daily maid service—if needed or for other condo questions contact my property manager Chris Bryan at 482 1100.
Hawaii law is no smoking (inside or out) except in designated areas
which is a covered area in the island part of the parking lot.
