- "The host of this property definitely deserves the five star rating. We had two issues greet us when we arrived and Blain responded immediately. He continued to stay in touch throughout our stay. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of room. The house is located about 4 minutes from a cute little downtown area with a couple bookstores, coffee shop and some nice restaurants; and the metra- if you want to go into the city. The only downside to this property is that the bedroom with 2 beds is very cold. If you stay during cold weather, extra blankets and warm clothes are a must. Also, I would not put a small child in that room. If we are ever back in the area, I will definitely stay here again."

Downtown Homewood is a short walk, with numerous shops and restaurants. The village and park district host many farmers markets, fests, and activities year-round. Homewood voted one of the most livable cities in the country within walking distance to train. Downtown Chicago 40-minute train ride. Located just south of I-80.

This is a garden apartment in the basement of our home. Entrance is in the rear. The guest has their own private entrance to the apartment. Safe, secure and private.

Other things to note
The basement is inherently on the cooler side. A space heater will be provided for those who need additional heat.

Also, we live upstairs. You may hear footsteps and some creaking throughout the day. It is an old home.

The space
Radiant heated floors in the house is my favorite. A wonderful feature that keeps your tootsies warm in the winter. I love the ability for 2 people to work from home with no issues. If you and your roomie needs to jump on separate Zoom or TEAMs calls that is so not a problem here. With fast high speed internet and 2 workstations we have you covered. Do you love to cook like I do? There's a gas stove with a built in griddle, enough counterspace and utensils/kithenware to prepare your meals. If you want to order out no problem there's enough room in the full sized fridge to store leftovers and a microwave to reheat them. You have your own private washer and dryer if things get dirty. Overall, this is a quiet and comfortable place to stay!

Charming and historic Sears Catalog House on 2/3 acre wooded lot. Less than 10 minute walk to shops and restaurants in downtown Homewood to Metra rail (and Amtrak) station with express service to Hyde Park and University of Chicago (less than a half hour) and Chicago's 3 magnificent downtown waterfront stations (~40 minutes). Fire pit in yard can be used to enjoy summer nights. No cable, but several digital antenna channels available as well as Netflix, XBox and DVDs.

The space
This house was built by a famous geologist in 1912. J Harlen Bretz. There are many rocks and minerals on the property. Please admire all you want, but don't remove any.

Hi. We want to thank you for considering staying at our home in Homewood. We set this home up for us to use when we are in Chicago as a family for business or pleasure. We live out of state and needed a comfortable and quiet home where we and our 4 kids could stay for extended periods of time. This home is in a very quiet neighborhood, with amazing neighbors and a very large backyard. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

The space
As we said, we made this place as our second home in Chicago because we recently moved out of state but still need a place to stay when we are back in town. The two biggest bedrooms have queen beds, the smaller 3rd bedroom has a full bed and there is a sofa that turns into a bed in the entry room. There is a large smart TV and fiber internet so you can work from home. The kitchen is very clean with a brand new fridge that has water and ice. Laundry is available for those staying longer.

The backyard is so large! The neighborhood is very quiet. We are very good friends with the next door neighbors and a few others on the street. With the exception of the winter months, the backyard patio has a propane grill, furniture and table out for guests to use.

The driveway is very large and can fit 5 cars. For our 30+ guests we can offer you the garage to use as well.

We look forward to using this home and I am sure your family will enjoy it as well.

You have access to the entire house except for the garage. That is only available for guests that stay 30+ days. The backyard and patio is also available but not recommended during the cold winter months. All the patio furniture and grill are taken to storage during the winter.

You can reach the heart of downtown in just 40 minutes, and the White Sox, Bears, and Cubs stadiums are 25, 30, and 40 minutes away respectively.
