Welcome to Miller Beach! This 1950's charmer is only 2 blocks from the sugar-sand beaches of Lake Michigan! The famous Flamingo Pizza, restaurants and mini-mart are right around the corner. Our 1950's home has charm and character, with enough space for 8 (1 adult + 2 kids extra in den if needed) and a three-tiered deck to enjoy dinner and an evening campfire.

Our house is a single story home with hardwood floors and low ceilings characteristic of the mid-century style. Kitchen and dining area are at the front of the house, which open up to the main living room of the home. The house continues back to the three bedrooms and single bathroom. Finally, there is a comfortable and spacious den at the back of the home with a working gas fireplace. The den has three couches that convert to beds, one large enough for an adult and the other two large enough for pre-teens. From the den you can go out to our three-story back deck that covers the backyard with a outdoor dining set and a covered seating area with television.

The location is ideal for a short walk to the beautiful beaches of Miller! We are only 0.2 miles away from Sullivan Beach entrance and 0.3 miles to the Shelby St Beach entrance. Maple is a quiet, tree-lined street only one block from Flamingo Pizza and the Miller Mini Mart.

Our property is a 1950 single-level home with all the charm of a mid-centry property. Updated kitchen with all amenities, full bathroom with tub and den for additional sleeping with large-screen tv and games!

Our backyard has three decks! The first level has seating for morning coffee, the second level has a large table with six chairs and an umbrella. The top deck has a very comfortable lounge area with seating for 6 and a large tv.

It's a safe and peaceful place to relax and enjoy surrounded by plants, wildlife and an amazing beach with views of downtown Chicago just blocks away!

Guests will be provided with a private code in advance to enter the front door, simply tap the home icon to activate and enter the code. The code will remain active for the entirety of your booking.

All televisions are streaming only, if any of your favorite streaming services are not loaded feel free to download them. The TV in the back den does have an antennae pointing towards Chicago for over the air channels. The outdoor TV remote, along, with the remote for the outdoor fan & light, are stored in the pocket of the TV protector.

The ice maker is currently not working, but there are three ice trays provided and we try to store up backup ice in the ice maker.

The outside lights are programmed to turn on at sunset and off at 10:00pm. Please contact us if you would like adjustments to this schedule, or simply unplug them from the smart outlets they are connected to in the back and on the northeast side of the home.

The Lake Shore Beach House has 5 bedrooms. Three bedrooms are on the first floor and two bedrooms are on the lower level. Four of the beds are king size therapeutic luxury mattresses, one is queen. There is a master bathroom, and a large bathroom on both the first floor and the lower level. Total of three newly rehabbed bathrooms.

Walks on the beach are exceptional as you will find it to be one of the cleanest open beaches of Lake Michigan. The neighbors take pride in taking pristine care of this beach, which is part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park - our nations newest national park! Miller Beach is an exceptional neighborhood beach, festive, well cared for and uncrowded - a perfect getaway at any time of the year.

Her home is located across the street from the beach with a super easy path to the beach. She is always a text or phone call away if you need anything. Perfect for family with kids. She has a great patio for grilling and hanging out, bikes to ride, Beach Toys, etc. We will definitely love to rent her house again. My only suggestion is that if you plan on renting and you like to watch tv or movies, bring something to watch on, because this home only has one tv in the basement. Miller Beach is a small beach front community less than 1 hour from Chicago. This accessibility and the fact that it borders the Indiana Dunes makes this a little hidden gem. This light and bright house is situated across the street from the beach with a pretty path right across from the house.

The house was completely updated in 2015 and now has all the features of a great house for all seasons. The open layout of the first floor gives you a relaxing place to hang out with family or friends. There is ample space for multiple families. The house will sleep 12 people comfortably. Rate advertised is for up to 8 guests. Fees apply for additional guests.

The house offers an open first floor and a warm and cozy wood burning fireplace. The open kitchen is beautiful with a gas stove, dishwasher, and large island. The open floor plan offers a large dining area, spacious sitting area around the fireplace and a separate game table. The first floor powder room has a penny floor- see if you can find the Indian Head or Steel penny!

The Master Bedroom is spacious, and has a queen bed with a sitting area and lake views. The 2nd Bedroom has a queen bed. The Master bathroom is large with a separate shower with a rain shower and Handheld, a separate soaking tub and a large vanity with 2 sinks. The second floor also has a cozy sitting area at the top of the stairs with lake views which is great for reading!

There are 3 additional bedrooms on the lower level. The lower level also has an additional sitting area, and laundry. The lower level bathroom has a shower and 2 separate sinks with pocket doors providing privacy allowing for more than one person to use at the same time.

The back deck is large and has a gas grill and table and chairs. Parking for 3 cars.

We are across the street from the Indiana Dunes National Park, Wells Street Beach and West Beach. The beaches are right out your front door.....and our nearest beaches haven't been affected by erosion like other properties. There's no need to drive to the beach ..just walk across the street and and go over the hill and you are a beautiful expanse of beachfront.

Our house is in the best possible location to visit the dunes and the state parks and the national lakeshore. Our home is recently updated and furnished in a mid-century modern style.

For ALL bookings, included in your stay is a FREE week-long pass to access the expansive Indiana Dunes National Park system. Our part of the national park is also open to visitors for free just by walking across the street.

Our home is exceptionally designed and well-equipped with easy access to the beach, Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana Dunes State Park, and Chicago. We are experienced travelers and have furnished our home with the traveling family in mind. Our house is not just a rental property where you have to hobble everything together and pack your whole house to take with you -- it's a comfortable, well-equipped home with all you need to make your vacation relaxing and comfortable for your whole family. We have everything you need to stay safe and stay close.

Beds & Baths: The master bedroom is on the upper level next to a completely renovated luxury bathroom with a fantastic shower. There is a 2nd bedroom on the lower level (this room has 2 twins that can be converted to a king) with an adjacent jack and jill divided vanity and tub/shower. There is an adjacent "den" with sleeper futon and rollaway (upon request) on the lower level. This is the perfect accommodation for 2 couples or a large family --It's ideal for 6 adults or 4 adults and a few children. A rollaway is available for setup in the den space and is suitable for a child or teen .

The # 1 highlight of our home is the Indiana Dunes National Park - Just sit on the balconies to view the park or walk across the street to access trails.

Inside and out the townhome is pleasant and light-filled. We provide all carefully chosen linens and towels as well as a supply of staples for the kitchen and bath. We even leave beach towels for your use. Leave the laundry to us!

The upper level contains the main living space -- dining room, living room, kitchen, master bed, and bathroom. The main living area has a Crate & Barrel queen sleeper sofa; 15-foot ceilings, and is light-filled and uniquely furnished. Also on hand:

The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for a good meal: pots/pans, grilling tools, blender, hand mixer, immersion blender, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, crock pot, Nespresso coffee machine with pods, coffee press, espresso moka, drip coffee pots, Crate & Barrel dishes, glassware & cutlery to serve 10. The grill is just outside the kitchen on the balcony. We provide kitchen staples to get you going when you first arrive. We can also purchase starter groceries on your behalf.

The lower level features 2nd bedroom, den, garage, bathroom, laundry room with a washer/dryer, and patio. Both the bedroom and den have a private access doors to the patio. Both rooms also access the downstairs divided bathroom with tub/shower and vanity. Lush linens and towels and beach towels are provided. There is a full-size Whirlpool washer/dryer (with detergent provided) on the ground level.

Enjoy your morning coffee and bird watch or sneak out in the evening for some nighttime star gazing from our balconies. We provide bird books and binoculars. You can often hear the waves of the lakeshore on the front balcony and the master bedroom.

The landscaping surrounding the house, while appearing like it's just part of the park, is surprisingly intentional. A naturalist regularly comes to remove invasive species and spread native seeds. The plants attract birds, wildlife, and many butterflies. The dune grass hosts regular visitors like deer and other wildlife that traverse our backyard.

Our house has sound-isolating construction-- We rarely, if ever, hear sounds from our neighbors' homes. Our neighbors help keep an eye on things... we are a generally quiet group and hope for the same from our vacationers.

With a garage and driveway, parking is suitable for 2-3 cars. Children are welcome but must be supervised on the balconies and patio.

A fire bowl is available for your use and , for the beach, we have a small beach wagon with camp chairs, beach toys, and a beach blanket available. Store your "toys" i.e. bikes/kayaks, beach gear, etc in the garage.

The National and State Parks and the quick access to the beach make us a spectacular choice. The parks are incredibly biodiverse (in the top 10 for all national parks) and offer so many opportunities to explore nature in many ways. The Park Service describes it better than I can: "The continuously changing dunes play host to the abundant natural beauty of rare birds (many rare), abundant wildlife and beautiful hiking duneland trails. Hidden within urban neighborhoods in the Miller Beach section of Gary are pockets of natural land – high dunes, oak forest, wetlands, and wooded ravines. Lake Michigan can be seen from many high vantage points in the park and many rare plants cling to survival on these sandy acres." The park also hosts rare birds and endangered species of plants and animals.

Our home is smack in the middle of the state, national, and county parks that extend in pockets from Michigan City westward to Gary. All of them have beaches with varying have boat, kayak, and water-sport launches. We have great access to Wells street and West Beach. Wells Street is a popular location for locals and hosts a pavilion and concession stand and West Beach is the best "off the beaten path" -- walking into the beach is the best way to avoid crowds and to experience the best beach in the area. West Beach is part of the National Park and it is patrolled and cleaned of litter regularly.

Beyond the beach...
Chicago -we are close to the south shore train station that will take you to downtown Chicago in less than an hour. Driving downtown is also quick and easy. We are happy to help you navigate and provide an overview of your options for touring Chicago.

For the kids or kid at heart: visit the Bailly Chelburg homestead or take on the ranger challenge to climb the 3 tallest sand dunes; You can also do some seasonal stargazing and participate in naturalist hikes just for kids. In addition, the national park has birding backpacks available for all ages containing books and binoculars that can be checked out at five of their area offices.

Biking is also a popular activity: the trails are crushed gravel so require a little heavier tired bike. We love cyclists.... if you have specific needs for bicycling, please let us know. We are very experienced long-distance cyclists and can help you with specific arrangements for cycling. Three "dutch" cruiser bikes are stored in the garage and available for your use. Special arrangements for fewer days can also be made for those who are passing through on their bikes. Cycling maps are available as well.

Our measures for COVID-19: As part of VRBO's recommendations we are performing all cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitization procedures on our property. We try our best not to book same-day back-to-back reservations. We prefer to have a 24 hour rest period between reservations before your arrival. We will thoroughly clean and disinfect our spaces using EPA-recommended disinfectants. For every stay, we sanitize linens and towels and clean frequently touched surfaces including door knobs, countertops, handles, touch pads, bathroom fixtures, and other surfaces. We will also stock extra items for you to help you feel well taken care of during your stay, including an antibacterial hand wash and soap in all bathrooms and kitchen and sufficient toilet paper and paper towels, and a supply of antibacterial cleaning products.

Our exterior entrances are monitored by video surveillance devices.
Smoking, vaping or using aroma therapy machines is strictly prohibited anywhere on the property. Any violation of this will incur a charge of the complete damage fee of $500. Possession of handguns or weapons are not allowed. NO use of fireworks is allowed on the property and will result in collection of the damage deposit of $500 or more.

We will respond to booking requests ideally within a few hours and before the 24 hour booking window. We prefer family stays. Our home is not suitable for stag parties or groups for hunting/fishing expeditions.

The space

Our spacious home can currently accommodate 6 guests in 2 bedrooms/3 full bathrooms. Read each room's description to see bed options.

We are fully outfitted for a fun and relaxing stay for you. We have a ping pong table, bags (cornhole set), firepit, plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax, and board games.

The first time you enter, you will come through the garage (where our ping pong table lives). You'll see the master bedroom to your left and the laundry room/mud room to your right.

MASTER BEDROOM includes:

-Large shower with 3 shower heads including rainfall shower head
-Toilet with bidet

Keeping walking and you'll see the main door beyond the Master bedroom and the stairs to the loft. Across from that to your right, you'll find the second bedroom.

2ND BEDROOM includes:
-Queen sized Sleep Number bed
-Direct access to bathroom
-Chair and ottoman

Immediately after the second bedroom is a door to the bathroom. This same bathroom is directly accessible from bedroom #2.

The lodge is generously spread over two levels:

Upstairs, the vaulted ceilings, open living/dining area and charming eat-in kitchen invite your group to relax together. Three big bedrooms (including a kids’ bunk room) and a full bath are just down the hall.

Downstairs, enjoy a well-stocked TV/game room large enough for family Ping-Pong tournaments AND a casual second ‘picnic’ kitchen with grilling area right outside. Two more bedrooms(one with a dedicated work space) another bath, a tucked-away reading nook and a convenient laundry room complete the space.

Connecting the whole house is an open staircase and a vaulted entryway with a beach closet stocked with towels, coolers and carts for an easy day in the sun.

The backyard is uniquely terraced, and features a gas grill, a family picnic table, and a covered outside dining nook lit by Emerson Lights overlooking a wild, wooded dune and deep ravine. It’s like hanging out in a tree-house up in the forest canopy!

Our lodge's vibe is bright and comfortable, with a casual mid-century charm. Wherever possible, we've kept the house's nostalgic 1960s features intact, and we’ve filled it with vintage furnishings, decor, books and games.

But it’s also fully updated with central air, all new appliances (including a dishwasher and a sleek front-loading laundry pair), excellent bedding, a strong WIFI signal and a TV with Netflix and voice remote.

Other things to note
This is a split-level home with stairs and a terraced back yard overlooking a deep, wooded ravine. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for folks with impaired mobility, crawling infants or toddlers. Children over 5 are welcome with close supervision!

One of the bedrooms is furnished with bunk beds intended for kids. The other four bedrooms can accommodate guests of all ages.

One of the Queen beds is a platform bed, very comfortable but very low to the ground.

The dining room table even had enough seating for all 10 of us to dine together! The home is very clean and in excellent condition. The teens in our group loved the ping pong and chess board. We enjoyed walking to the beach daily and hiking along the shore. The neighbors were all extremely friendly and we met a lot of dogs out for walks. Our only complaint would be that the lighting provided was too dim in the long winter evenings to work on the craft projects we had brought along."

Everything is updated with lots of room for gathering and fun! As you enter the home, you come upon a large dining room with a flatscreen streaming tv completely open to the kitchen that has a huge island that can almost seat everyone! Lots of counter space for entertaining and equipped with modern appliances. The kitchen is very well stocked for dining and entertaining. There are 3 bedrooms on the main floor and one full bath. Bedroom #1 has a King bed, flat screen streaming tv. Bedroom #2 has a Queen Bed and Streaming flatscreen tv, Bedroom #3 has a Queen Bed and Streaming flatscreen tv. There is a main level living room with an huge sectional for seating and 65" flat screen and gas fireplace. From there you can access the backyard from a patio door. Perfectly set up with ample seating and dining, Hot tub, fenced in yard, fire pit and a gas grill. The Lower Level has a lounge feel with a pool table and a ping pong topper, so you can pick whatever game you desire. There is another flatscreen, bar stools, pub table and couches, so there's room for everyone. There is a bathroom with a shower and the bunk room. 2 bunk beds, twins over full! Beach Views and Close to National Park
This updated 5 bdr, 3 bth beach house is just across the street from the beach and a two-minute drive to Indiana Dunes National Park at West Beach.
Take a short walk to the peaceful, semi-secluded beach or take a stroll down the street to Marquette Park or one of the public beaches. The large park has much to offer year round. Enjoy bike trails, dune hiking, sledding, bbq shelters, frisbee golf, bootcamp, public beach, historical Aquatorium Bath House and Pavilion venues, kayaking and fishing on the lagoon, playground and concession stand with outdoor live music. The Aquatorium and Pavilion are perfect venues for weddings or large events.
Miller Beach is centrally located and close to several casinos and minutes from Methodist, St. Mary’s, Community, Porter Regional and Franciscans Hospitals.

Miller Beach’s new fast track South Shore Train can get you to downtown Chicago in less than 60 minutes.

The home’s main level features a large open concept kitchen, living room, dining area and a three seasons room. The modern eat-in kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare and enjoy meals. Just bring food. Paper products, cleaning supplies, pots and pans, dinnerware, glassware, toaster, microwave, crockpot, spices and some food staple items are provided.

Just outside the kitchen, you’ll find the sunroom as well as a large rooftop deck for outdoor entertaining with a gas grill.

The lower level has a queen bedroom,a double twin bedroom, a bathroom, laundry room and rec room to watch movies, dance or sleep. With a Smart TV, it’s the perfect place to hang out with friends and family. Or, chill out after a hot day at the beach. (Or snuggle up after a day of cross-country skiing, sledding and hiking through the dunes)
With 5 bedrooms, the house sleeps 10 guests comfortably in beds.

All three bathrooms are stocked with clean towels, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and hair dryer.

House Rules

You must be 27 years old to book a stay with us.

Parking. To avoid towing, please park in the designated spaces on our property only. There are 3 parallel spaces directly in the front of the house and 2 spaces in the back driveway. See parking diagram provided in your check-in information email.

Be tidy and respectful of the house, neighbors and property.

No heavy cooking or reheating of aromatic food (Curry,fish,etc) The kitchen is to be used for light cooking only and the preparation/cooking of strong aromatic foods is not allowed. The aroma is very difficult to rid of. Feel free to use the outdoor grill for cooking food with heavy spices.

“Sand Ain’t Dirt” This is a beach house. Expect to carry some sand in the house. For your own comfort (and our clean up) please take your shoes off and use the hose to rinse before entering the house. Going to bed after a few drinks with sandy feet is fun. Waking up sober in a sandy bed, not so much.

No smoking. We do not allow smoking in our house. (We don’t want to stink the place up or burn the place down) So, if that’s your thing, sand buckets are located in the driveway. Please do not throw cigarette butt on the ground or the beach.

No animals that either poop, pee, have hair, shed skin, eat, drink, get on furniture, have teeth or claws or make any type of noise are permitted any where on the property. All other pets are fine.

No parties or events. Registered guest letting loose with a few cocktails is encouraged. However, large parties with unregistered guests or events are not. Unregistered guests must be approved by the host prior to booking.

No glitter or balloons. They are hard to clean and bad for the environment.

We do not allow fireworks anywhere on our property, the street or the beach.

Please do not use the fireplaces. They are not functioning.

Please do not enter the closets that are marked as, “Private” or “Owner”.

Your safety matters. Outside security cameras are set up to prevent and protect the owners, neighbors and guests. The audio and video cameras are set up outfacing by the building entrances and parking locations.

Loud music. The majority of the neighbors are fun beach people (for the most part) But, please be considerate. Not everyone is on vacation. We have elderly neighbors who enjoy peace and quiet after 10pm. We have neighbors who work from home. And we have neighbors with small children. Please be respectful.

Please do not flush anything other than poop, pee, toilet paper, small dead goldfish,or puke in the toilet. (Hopefully not the latter) If the sewer system gets clogged, nobody will be happy.

Please clean the grill and turn off propane after cooking. It doesn’t have to be spotless, at least get the chunks of food off.

The thermostat is remotely set to a comfortable temperature. If you prefer something different or would like to turn it off and open the windows, feel free to contact us for adjustments. Please do not run the heat or air conditioning with the windows open. This could overload the system and cause it to lock up. Please close the windows if there is any risk of rain.

Beach chairs and beach towels are provided. Towels are in the linen closet. Chairs are stored in the garage. Please do not take the bath towels, sheets or blankets to the beach.

Plastic cups and paper plates are provided. Please do not take any dishes or glasses outside.

Alcohol is not permitted on our beaches. Be sure to hide your cocktails/beer in a solo cup or the patrolling beach cops may confiscate your cooler and give you a big fat RUDE fine.

We have a carry out policy for garbage on the beach. Take a garbage bag with you. Cigarettes are considered litter. Please throw out your butts. Drop your trash in a garbage bin when you leave the beach. Garbage bags are under the kitchen sink

If something breaks, please don’t try to fix it. (Sh#@ happens) Please call us. We will get someone there to fix it. If you leave it as a surprise for us later, you may lose your security deposit.

Welcome to our childhood home, where we stay when relaxing in the metro area. You'll be 5 min from the Hard Rock Casino/Concerts, 10 min from the Gary/Chicago Airport, 15 minutes from the BP Whiting Refinery, and less than 20 min from the Indiana Dunes Park. Our completely remodeled home is on a quiet street surrounded by woods, where we played as youngsters. Our 3-bedroom residence, with original hardwood floors, has active RING doorbell devices at the front and back doors, side house camera, and Minut (party) sensor for added safety.

The Yard
While looking out of the large picture windows or sitting on the front porch, don’t be surprised if deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and an assortment of other birds and frogs visit you or if a neighbor walks or drives by and waves.

We also adorned our yard with plants native to the area, which you can see in the Dunes National Park and many parts of Northwest Indiana, including our wonderfully wooded west side Gary neighborhood.

2 - Early check-in, Late check-out, and Early bag drop are subject to availability
3 - Door codes will not be shared if the incidentals deposit of $300 and registration are still pending.
4 - Deposit is released 3-7days after the original check-out date,
5 - All complaints must be notified after 30 mins of check-in.
6 - All departures must be reported immediately in a very clear way to us after for calendar availability to others and issue resolution for you, it is recommended to send an alteration request if needed, this helps you to get the unspent nights back while we get the calendar available again, we can then check the spent nights.
7 - All reservation changes must be done before the checkout time each day (10 AM), changes can not be done after 10 AM as per the app configuration, we can not override this.
8 - If you need an early departure, please submit an alteration request so it can easily be approved.
9 - No courtesy refunds are provided.
10 - If you happen to request a full refund for any circumstance please be ready for Immediate check-out, be sure to alternate the reservation for an early departure so we can approve the unspent nights that were supposed to be non-refundable, so we then might consider another courtesy for the spent night if applicable.
12 - If you want me to coordinate any amenities, please let me know 24 hours in advance (4 PM-12 AM) so my team can deliver or resolve on-site the next day.
13 - Extra cleanings in case of Issues or courtesies should be arranged 24 hours in advance and before 10 AM each day.

11 - INCIDENTAL DEPOSITS POLICY: Amount of the Incidentals fee hold after booking: $300. As an API software connected Host, we are entitled to ask for a preventive fee in case of damages with the usage of a 3rd party. Airbnb's policy, see here: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/140 In situations where the damages exceed the amount of the deposit, we will utilize the resolution center to address the liability for these damages. Through this process, Airbnb may either charge the cost to your card or apply AirCover for resolution.
12 - REGISTRATION POLICY
Registration is a mandatory step after booking, requiring the submission of IDs for all guests under the reservation. and even will ask you to scan your credit card. - It's crucial to complete both (Deposit and registration) accurately; failure to do so will result in your reservation termination with no refund.

This cottage is a 2nd home for vacations, not intended to renovate as an investment rental. You may expect finer quality, such as Marble/Onyx mosaics bathroom, filter system for drinking water, and good quality kitchen tools. Some features might not be standard which reflects the joy of open spaces and outdoors -- no curtains in the living room. When we are not there, we rent it at a fair price to help out with the costs. We greatly appreciate you.

There are 2 guest suites at this cottage. Another one is on the 1st floor. Each unit has a separate entrance. This unit has a private kitchen but no washer/dryer.

Your private entrance is on the 2nd floor. it has 13 steps to walk up to the front door. (If you prefer no step, we have another guest suite which is on ground level and has a walk-in shower.)

Both guest suites may be rented together at a discount.

It is an old house. Sound insulation is not at its best. If there is another guest in the lower unit, we greatly appreciate your help using library noises and threading walk a little softer late nights

It is a forest-theme property. We intentionally leave wild flowers and dune grasses grow wild on the property, just like when you walk on an Indiana Dune trail. We dont mow them. Beautiful flowers along the seasons - daffodils in early Spring, then some purple flowers, then some orange flowers, ... The log retaining wall is rustic.

SMART TV. There are free TV channels and you will be able to sign in your paid subscription(s) such as NetFlix and Prime with your own account.

No party or loud music. Only pre-authorized guests are allowed on the property. No firework, please.

SAFETY is very important to us. We double check a guest identity. In addition to airbnb standard verification, we ask all guests to provide a picture ID to pre-checkin, before we send out house entry instructions.

WALK OR BIKE out your front door and you are only a few blocks away from Lake Michigan:

a) TURN LEFT pass Nelson Algren's cottage. When the road ends, there is a paving walking/biking trail which leads to the beautifully renovated Marquette Park. There is a looping bike path, along the road in the park. The park connects to Lake Michigan and beach where you will discover photographic sunsets, view of Chicago skyline across the lake, and wild natural sand dunes. While in the park, you might want to checkout the national registered Aquatorium Bathhouse, and the Marquette Park Pavilion designed by George Maher with Prairie School architecture.

b) Or TURN RIGHT, and turn right again at the corner to cross the bridge to Lake Street Beach.

It is an old house. Sound insulation is not at its best. If another unit is occupied, we greatly appreciate your help using library noises late nights


It is a forest-theme property. We intentionally leave wild flowers and dune grasses grow wild on the property, just like when you walk on an Indiana Dune trail. We dont mow them. Beautiful flowers along the seasons - daffodils in early Spring, then some purple flowers, then some orange flowers, ... The log retaining wall is rustic.

In-unit washer/dryer (free).

No kitchen. Stove-top oil cooking is not allowed as there is no ventilation hood. There is a pantry for food prep. Induction plate and microwave to warm up food. Slow cooker or instant pot are very welcome. Gas BBQ is on the wood deck right off the pantry door.

It is not an ADA accessible unit but very friendly for a limited mobility guest: 1) On ground level No step at the front door.
( A few steps at the back door.) 2) Walk-in marble shower with a hand-held shower.

Welcome to our funky and relaxing space in the Indiana Dunes which we lovingly call ‘the birdhouse’. Conveniently located near the bike trail, one mile from South Shore train station, lake street shops and dining and one mile from Lake Michigan. A great home base for exploring the Dunes, around the corner from the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental education and Miller Woods Trail. Perfect spot for artists, nature lovers, remote work, family and couples get away.

The space
The apartment is the main floor of our home. There is a secondary apartment where we live located in the basement of the house.

Your space includes a well equipped large kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, 2 bedrooms and an office/library with a fold out couch we can set up when needed. There are tons of reading materials in the library(sorry no TV) and brochures and maps of the Indiana Dunes.

There are 3 parking spaces in front of the house for guest use. Please do not park in front of our neighbors houses. Front door entry with keypad, I will send the code day prior to arrival. Feel free to enjoy the front garden but please do not enter the fenced side yard.

Other things to note
The apartment is very private and there is very good sound insulation between your space and our apartment downstairs. We rarely hear our guests and love when we do hear people enjoying our home. That being said, loud music and loud footsteps in the living room during our quiet hours can be quite disruptive as we sleep under the living room.

2,400 sq ft Mid Century Modern home, an hour southeast of Chicago by train or car. 15-minute walk (or 2-minute drive) to one of Miller’s beautiful beaches.

Bike or drive to Indiana Dunes National Park (West Beach, Tolleston Dunes, and Miller Woods) and downtown Miller Beach (art galleries, shops and dining). Delightful drives to all parts Northwest Indiana and Harbor Country, Michigan.

Upstairs, a large living and dining space with working fireplace, three bedrooms, kitchen, and a full bathroom.

Downstairs, a TV lounge, workout equipment (including treadmill), fourth bedroom, full bath, and separate backyard entrance.

Out back, two decks, firepit, ever-changing garden of native perennials, and wonderful wildlife viewing into the woodland dune valley behind us.

Entire home and yard. As this is our home much of the year, please treat our space and belongings with care, and respect the few closets that are blocked off for storage.

Firewood is take-some leave-some! We try to keep firewood stocked for those must-have-a-fire-NOW moments (we know the ones), but if you plan to use the fireplace or outdoor fire pit, please bring some wood with you if possible. We do have a large stack of kindling out back and you’re welcome to it.

THINGS ABOUT OUR CORNER OF INDIANA:

For the uninitiated, Miller Beach is an extraordinarily safe, warm, and welcoming community for all. It is a vibrant, quirky part of Gary - our mayor lives here! - and is truly an historic and cultural treasure. (Simone de Beauvoir and Nelson Algren kept a home here, for the literarily-inclined.)

We’ve received questions about whether our corner of Gary feels safe. Short answer: Abso-f’ing-lutely. We feel abundantly safe out here in the dunes, and the nearest threat of an intruder would be a nesting bird, a neighbor’s ancient dog, or maybe one of our wonderful retired neighbors enjoying plowing the snow from your driveway in the middle of the night with his new snow blower (all true). Late at night, you might hear the bone-chilling sound of a coyote seance somewhere in the Dunes. (Those are my favorite.)

- This is our biggest concern. We do not want people to trash or damage our property, as we worked very hard to create it. This is our lively hood and how we make a living. This space is very special to us. We hope you see and treat it that way as well:) Airbnb also holds hosts accountable, so we ask that you please do not put us in that position. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

** Indoor Smoking Fee: $250.00
- This space is a family friendly environment. We ask that you please do not smoke or prepare any smoking paraphernalia within the apartment(i.e. load a bowl, roll a Joint, cut a swisher, etc). If we find Tobacco or Marijuana residue(ashes, leftovers, used papers, etc), this fee will be charged. As well as strong smell/odor.
We only asked for no smoking in the past, but people still would do so, and leave a mess/smell, which takes extra cleaning and work to remove it for the next guest(s). Our guests many times have children and infants, which is why we stand by this rule. If you absolutely have to or have some pressing need, this may not be the listing for you. Thank you for your understanding.

** Unauthorized Pet Fee: $150.00
- Our space is not meant to host pets. As well, other guest may be allergic. This fee goes towards the extra cleaning to ensure the space's utmost hygiene.

** Late Checkout Fee: $30.00 per 30 minutes after checkout time
- We need to ensure our space is clean for the next guest coming in. Our cleaners only have so much time as it is. So, it is vital in our process that guests check out on time. We thank you and appreciate your understanding.
