Our holiday villa is equipped with all the necessities for a comfortable home away from home experience; all for your personal use. The house is an older style Kiwi Villa that has been modernized. The villa has been redecorated and refurbished including new carpets, flooring's, beds, kitchen, dining room and bathroom. There is a Mitsubishi Hypecore heat pump/air-conditioner in the lounge to keep you cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. The bedrooms also include radiators and electric blankets. The house has been rewired and re-plumbed and, It offers a mains pressure hot water cylinder if you like a good shower. The villa offers amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains from the lounge, kitchen and main bedroom. The large decking has great views of the lake and we have an outdoor kwila table setting and a gas barbecue for outdoor dining. The house includes free unlimited VDSL Wi-Fi.

Mataura Lodge History

Mataura Lodge comes with unique Southland and Otago history. Starting life in the King Edward Army Barracks, built circa 1939, the building served to accommodate soldiers during wartimes. It then moved on to become a temporary home for New Zealand immigrants, seeking a new life in this beautiful country. Although the building has been completely renovated, original features remain. The floor boards in the main living area have been lovely restored and refitted, meaning you will be walking on a small part of history.

Moved to its new home in Athol in 1992, the building has been the passion project for some talented builders and decorators, resulting in a comfortable and stylish home away from home for guests, now open has Mataura Lodge.

Living Area
Sunshine and views combine with a spacious living area to create a great place to relax. Comfortably furnished with multiple seating options, the living area also includes a large screen LCD TV and Bluetooth stereo, with local Freeview channels as well as Netflix available on request.

A feature of the living area is the large wood burner surrounded by incredible stone work, it all combines to create a great place for guests to enjoy the views across the gardens to the hills opposite the lodge.

Kitchen and Dining
The Lodge comes with a fully equipped kitchen, with all the required amenities should you like to prepare your own meals during you stay. Adjacent to the kitchen is a beautiful dining area with table and seating for 6.

The house is located within Lakeside Estates, a private, rural enclave, 5 minutes from Queenstown’s international airport and only 15 minutes drive from central Queenstown. At the far end of the house is the private master bedroom featuring plush carpets, King bed and own patio area. The master ensuite has double basins, large shower and you can relax in the bath with a view.

Close to the entranceway you will find two beautifully appointed bedrooms that can be configured to Twin Single or Superking - these share an ensuite and Powder Room. Upstairs is the Loft bedroom with ensuite that can sleep four.

You can see the Wye Creek Waterfall from the driveway of the house so for those who like to hike/explore the Wye Creek waterfall track is close by.

As you walk up the path to the house the first thing that will catch your eye is the architecture and the fact that there are two parts to the home. The 2nd thing being the bird songs.

On your left you have the main house. Inside the main house on the ground floor you have a full bathroom which includes the laundry, kitchen, open plan lounge & dining area and a separate "winter room" with fireplace. Upstairs there is the master bedroom with a bathroom that can be closed off to make it an ensuite if required. A separate Queen room, bunk room with 2 sets of wooden bunk beds and then across the walkway is another bathroom and bedroom. Lots of space for everyone.

The right hand building has a bedroom, bathroom with wet shower and sauna, small kitchenette and large work desk for those who have to work while on holiday.

As you can see from the photos there is a lovely deck area that opens off the main lounge area where you can choose to dine or just relax on the sun lounges. There is also a separate courtyard off the kitchen that has a fire pit surrounded by comfortable outdoor furniture.

This is the perfect place for a friends getaway, elopement or adult retreat with its ability to sleep up to 12 people.

From Queenstown Airport, guests will turn left and head South on State Highway 6 to Invercargill. You will pass Jack's Point on the right after about 8 kilometres and another 2 kilometres further you will see the sign to Lakeside Estates, with the gated entrance 200m on the right. You will be sent instructions on accessing the property once you have booked in.
The house is set on large section of land in the Oraka Estate just 10 minutes from the airport. It is a 2 storey house with It has a large lounge, kitchen and dining space that opens onto a sheltered outdoor area.

Lake's End Lodge is on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded in mountains and farmland, in the cute village of Kingston. We live in the main house in front and this space is a separate, self-contained converted 20ft shipping container with your own ensuite and kitchenette & amazing lake views.

The property is packed with character and we have loads of free facilities such as kayaks, table tennis, games room & bikes. Well trained pets are welcome, just give us a heads up.

The space
The Container Cabin is your own cosy tiny home. En suite bathroom, small kitchenette (kettle, toaster, wok, microwave, element, bbq), outdoor seating and epic views. The games room is just across the driveway, you'll find the bikes next to the cabin and the kayaks down the long driveway leading to the lake. We also have golf clubs and tennis racquets you can borrow. This room can fit 3 people if required however it is better suited to 2 people, or 2 adults and a child (it will just be a bit cosy with 3!) It has a double bed and single bunk. You'll have complete privacy, but if you need anything, just ask!

You’ll have your own private space with car park, and your own keys so you can come and go as you please.

During your stay
We'll leave you to enjoy your stay in your own space, but we live in the main house right in front so are here if there is anything at all you need. The old station house is across the other side of the property & may also have guests from time to time. They have their own separate garden area.

Other things to note
The hot tub, bikes, kayaks, laundry & games room are shared with us and other guests.

Please only use the hot tub before 10pm and be considerate of neighbours and other guests.

Pets are allowed, just make sure to add them to your booking as you would people, and give us a heads up.

Local Amenities;

While there are no supermarkets in Kingston, you can stock up on supplies beforehand in either Te Anau, Queenstown or Invercargill. The 'Spot On' shop in Kingston offers bites to eat and basic groceries, and there’s a gas station available.

Rural Setting:

The rural location means you’ll experience natural beauty and animals, including sheep, cows, wild rabbits, and birds. However, this also means occasional weather-related challenges like heavy snowfall (June to mid-Sept) or rainfall may temporarily block access roads. In such cases, l will process cancellations and provide refunds for any unused nights, provided I am informed before checkout.

Come and enjoy the unobstructed views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains in Kingston, a small township just 35 minutes to Queenstown airport. The house is located on Kingston Station (a 15,000 acre working sheep and beef farm) which is available from the 7th July to the 31st October 2025. There is a minimum 7 night stay.

The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 king, 2 queen beds, 1 bathroom with separate toilet. Kitchen, 2 living areas, multifuel fireplace, heat pump, double glazing in most north facing rooms, outdoor area with BBQ. Attached double lockup garage.

Other things to note
The house is comfortable, but please note it is on a working farm, so yes there are a few scratches on doorways and the entrance through the garage. As any farmers wife will tell you, the house is always the last to ever have money spent on it! However, we are slowly decorating the rooms.

A great wee lakefront holiday house with fantastic mountain views. Two bedrooms with double beds and a heat pump in the lounge.

Kingston is a quiet little town with plenty of other holiday homes. There is great fishing in Lake Wakatipu, a couple of walks either up to the lookout or around the lake, also a cycle trail starts in Kingston. Bring your golf clubs and try the 9 hole golf course.

There is no supermarket so bring your supplies or enjoy a meal at the Kingston Flyer Bar/Cafe.

The space
This is a split level house with the bathroom, laundry and two bedrooms on the lower level. The lounge, dining and kitchen are on the higher level.

We use a lock box to store the key in. Airbnb will let you know what the code is when they send you your check in details.
You will also receive the Wi-Fi password from Airbnb with the check in details.

Other things to note
You are welcome to bring your dog. Please keep it outdoors and use the dog kennel around the back of the house.

Our water comes from the sky and is collected from the roof and into a tank. Please do not waste water to ensure there is enough for the next guest.

There is a Mitsubishi Hypecore heat pump/air-conditioner in the lounge to keep you cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. The bedrooms also include radiators and electric blankets. The house has been rewired and re-plumbed and, It offers a mains pressure hot water cylinder if you like a good shower. The villa offers amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains from the lounge, kitchen and main bedroom. The large decking has great views of the lake and we have an outdoor kwila table setting and a gas barbecue for outdoor dining. We have a smart TV with Freeview, Disney and Amazon Prime available for your enjoyment.

The hot tub is a wood fire tub . It requires attention and needs to be managed by a responsible adult.
It takes 4 hours to heat from cold. The lid needs to remain on after using so that the sunlight does not degrade the water quality. Please shower before you enter the tub. It is best for 1-2 adults at a time.

This trail is a 120 km cycle trail that runs from Kingston to Walter Peak Station on the western shores of Lake Wakatipu. This gentle trail meanders through farm land and park lands past lakes and vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges.

Our spacious kitchen comes well equipped with everything you should need to make home-cooked meals, basics are provided (oil, salt, pepper, coffee, tea) as well as a few more besides. If you love food as much as my family, we highly recommend stocking up on all your favorites at a supermarket before heading to Kingston. The humble lake house has a fridge, freezer, and plenty of pantry space….so don’t be shy!

Enjoy a family meal at the dining table (seats 6 adults easily) or tea and toast at the kitchen counter (3 adults).

Relax on our cosy couches, retro armchairs, or chill on a bean bag if that’s more your style. The sun-lounger is a great way to soak up the sun and the deck chairs are the best bet for that afternoon cold one.

Enjoy a family movie night, play a game, work on a jigsaw, or get lost in one of our books. A small selection of children's toys and sports equipment are also available for our younger guests.

We collect fresh rainwater in tanks, so please consider the water supply before using the bath or taking exceptionally long showers.

We need a new BBQ, so while one won't be available this summer, our kitchen facilities will have you covered. However, if the kids are up for an adventure just a couple of minute's walk away is a lakeside park with BBQ.......perfect for letting the kids run wild while you chat and turn sausages on a summer evening!

The space
The house was built in 2023 and is warm in winter, with big sliding doors that open the place right up in summer. 1 full bathroom and double bedroom are downstairs, with 3 bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom upstairs has incredible lake views. The second bedroom upstairs is small, with the third upstairs bedroom the largest. It has a queen bed and we have extra mattresses you can put down too. Just ask. Large upstairs bathroom and a small TV lounge on the landing. You'll find the laundry and gym equipment in the garage.
We also have a cuddly cat who lives onsite and will adore your pats. She has a self feeder in the garage and may come in and out of the house.

Drive in the back driveway, park up, and the place if yours! We'll be away but will be sure to be available to communicate with you for anything you might need.

The spa/hot tub is shared with our property next door (Lake's End Lodge) You'll find it in between the two properties. Its first come first served, but we've always found everyone gets a chance to enjoy it.

Other things to note
We are uniquely able to cater for hunting and fishing parties, with helicopters able to land on the property to enable access to some of the best back country fishing / hunting and skiing in the Southern Hemisphere.

There are some unique differences about being in our country setting which may not be for everyone. We are in a rural setting which can mean snow, heat, bugs, sheep, other livestock and birds. If you are after nightclubs, parties and the choice of many restaurants then we may not be the right location for you. However, if what you're after is AMAZING mountain views out of every window, curling up in front of the fire and a night sky you’ll rave about to your friends then you've come to the right place.

While children are welcome to stay, parents should be aware that there is no fire guard around the log burner.

A note about the "neighbours": We're a lodge surrounded by fields and mountains. As such we are surrounded by wildlife all the time. While our lodge is completely vermin proof, sheep, hares, hedgehogs, field mice and birds can enter the lodge through open doors. We recommend that you keep the access doors closed at all times especially when leaving the lodge alone for periods of time, and use the windows or ducted air conditioning for airflow, in order to avoid unwanted visits :)


IMPORTANT **WEATHER POLICY**

Solitude Lodge is in a rural area, as such the roads to and from Kingston can (not common but possible) become blocked in very unusual weather events due to high amounts of snowfall. This is beyond our control. It is the guest's responsibility to keep track of upcoming weather events. In the event that unusually high snowfall is predicted and the guest chooses to relocate elsewhere, Solitude Lodge will accept a cancellation and issue a refund on any unused night if notified before checkout. The space
There are six bedrooms in total each having a Superking bed fitted with luxury hotel linen. All beds except within master bedroom, can be split into two King singles. Adjacent Bedroom 4 & 5 on ground floor share Bathroom 4. All other bedrooms have their own private full bathroom ensuite.
Enjoy the spaciousness with three different outdoor seating areas! You can relax in the garden right outside ground floor bedrooms 4 and 5. Upstairs, there are two more lovely spots – one next to the amazing spa pool, and another right by the BBQ area with a great view of the lake. The whole villa has central heating to keep you cozy, and an open log fireplace creating a wonderful atmosphere. And for the ultimate relax, there's a steam room waiting for you in the downstairs bathroom 4!
