The famous Rail Trail is one block back. Walking, running and cycling tracks are aplenty, catering for all abilities. The track running along the Clutha River from Alexandra to Clyde (12km) is both shaded in summer and spectacular in Autumn.
Lake Dunstan offers swimming and boating, whilst the river caters for the fisherman.
Several fine wineries many offering tastings are all close by, with Bannockburn and it's many wineries is about 20 mins drive away.

Historic Clyde is only 8 km away, which offers fine cafes, movie theatre and wonderful old stone buildings.

Fairytale Log Cabin at Homewood Retreat is nestled among a beautiful pine forest with mountain views in the distance.

Spanning over two levels this unique home is full of charm and intrigue.
Downstairs consists of a large open plan kitchen and dining area, a sunken lounge with an open fireplace and large cathedral style windows to enjoy the beautiful views of the pines and mountains.
There are 2 bedrooms with a Jake and Jill shared bathroom and a super king master bedroom with en-suite as well as a separate toilet off the living area. Upstairs has a loft bedroom (king bed) and a large open plan TV area with two double beds.

Please note that there is no bathroom upstairs and guests staying upstairs would need to access the downstairs bathrooms as per the listing description above.

We also have 2 E-bikes, 1 regular mountain bike and golf clubs and fishing rods for rental.

We do not allow parties or loud noise after 10pm. Please review the house rules before requesting to book.

We have a couple of chickens who may be around the house from time to time. However they mostly stay near their little house on the other side of the property and can be kept inside their pen should this be needed.

This charming little ensuite studio is designed for one or two people in a Super-king bed, or two singles. You will share all of the same luxuries and benefits as guests in the Vineyard Suite, (wine-tasting, vineyard tour, optional vineyard dinner, toiletries, bathrobes etc) but the Studio is not directly attached to the house. It has its own patio with a small cafe table and chairs where you can be completely private, but the gardens, vineyard and public spaces in the house are still yours to enjoy.

The space
We are on a 2 acre semi rural block of land. The lounge area is comfortable and has awesome views of the rugged Central Otago landscape. Two cosy bedrooms with bedside lamps, power boards, luggage racks and large double wardrobes where extra pillows and blankets are kept. The Queen bedroom has alarm clock with radio. Living area and bathroom have sensor nightlights. Outdoor area is shared with our friendly dog Coco and there is outdoor seating provided. Outside lights include security lights on porch and driveway access.

Guest access
When you arrive at our home park in front of large schist chimney at the top of the driveway on your left and walk through wooden gate on left and follow path to patio and your entrance is on the far end of porch with there is a key lockbox. Please remember to shut the gate behind you. You will be emailed or messaged combination number for lockbox by host. Please leave key in lockbox upon leaving. Getting around Alexandra is a breeze and parking is free in town. Many people ride their bikes in and around town and many of business and cafes etc have bike stands available.

Other things to note
We are here to answer any questions whether it be in person by knocking on the sliding door or by phoning us on our numbers which are in the unit information folder. We would love to get to know our guests but it is entirely up to you. We can also provide secure car storage for $10 per night if you wish to leave your car here whilst on the rail trail.

Elevated above the Manuherikia river with dramatic schist rock faces and river views, our spacious,and warm ground floor apartment is nestled next to the Central Otago Rail Trail, Matangi Station Mountain Bike Park, and walking tracks. Cafes and restaurants are a few minutes walk along the scenic river track passing the historic shaky bridge. The river track is accessed from our property. It is a 30min drive to Highlands Motorsport Park, and one hour to both Queenstown and Wanaka.

The space
The apartment contains either a one or two-bedroom option. One bedroom with two single beds and a bedroom with a double king bed. An extra trundle bed is also available if required. There is a separate lounge, dining, and kitchenette area. The spacious bathroom has a bath, a separate shower, and a heated towel rail. The toilet is separate. The apartment has heating/air-conditioning.

Outside you have your own patio and a shared backyard overlooking the Manuherikia river where you can sit on a quiet evening and enjoy the view. The backyard is shared with Ringo our friendly Jack Russell and Ollie our friendly Tabby. There is off-street parking available down the driveway.

We live upstairs and are happy to answer any questions.

Getting around Alexandra is a breeze and parking is free in town. Many people ride their bikes around town and many businesses and cafes have bike stands available.

Access to the apartment is down the side steps under the deck and entry is via a lockbox. You will be emailed or messaged a combination number for the lockbox by the host. Please place the key back in the lockbox when you leave.

Two bedrooms:sleeps 4. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, dining table and 2 chairs, small fridge, microwave, jug and toaster, crockery and cutlery, smart TV with freeview. Bedroom 2 has 2 single beds. The rammed earth cottage is over 100 years old. Thyme Lane is a rural setting in an historic gold mining area. It's near the Lake Dunstan cycle trail, the Central Otago Rail Trail & Lake Roxburgh Trail. Five minutes to Alexandra or Clyde. One hour’s drive to Queenstown. Enjoy the outdoor space, nearby vineyards and orchards, and local cafes. You'll have your own cottage with bedroom (kingsize bed), ensuite bathroom, and living room with kitchenette (microwave, single hotplate, sink). Weber BBQ.

The cottage is 40m2. It has 2 main rooms. The combined living, dining, kitchenette area is to the left when you enter. To the right is the bedroom with ensuite. The original hallway through the middle of the cottage has been converted to become the entry way and bathroom.

There are 3 buildings on the site. The cottage sits on a small rise facing away from the other buildings. I live in one of the other buildings. The cottage has it's own private outdoor barbeque area with outdoot table and chairs. Other eating and sitting areas allow you to relax in the sun, or under the shade of the poplar and willow trees on a hot day.

You look out over the lavender-lined path, and across the "Thyme Lane cricket oval" to Conroy's Creek. There are a couple of bench seats around the oval to relax on. Conroy's Creek is within the property and is flanked by willows and poplars. There are several old horse drawn agricultural implements around the grounds, assorted other relics, and a gig.

You have access to all areas other than immediately around the other 2 buildings. There is easy on-site parking.

Other things to note
A welcome pack makes it easy for those arriving in the evening. You can have a light snack of bread, cheese, fresh fruit.
Breakfast supplies of cereals, yoghurt, milk, bread, butter, and homemade jams are provided so that you don't have to rush out to the shops on arrival.

Laundry facilities are available at the laundromat in nearby Alexandra.

This is a rural area and there may be farming or agricultural activities in the area. There may be noise from animals or equipment that is a normal part of rural life.

Please note that the cabin is a small space and the private bathroom is adjacent to the cabin. Access to the bathroom is external via a separate entrance a few steps away from the cabin.
And the property is not fenced so pls keep that in mind if you are traveling with pets.

Homewood Retreat also has two other log cabins on the property about 20-30 meters away.
Paul and I live in the main house with our very well behaved pets - Skyla (small dog) and Vader (cat) and the other loft cabin above the garage is for guest accommodation. So pls do note that while your privacy will be respected at all times, this is not a totally private experience, as there are others staying on the property.
