'The Cottage' is a cute, well equipped mountain cottage. 5 minute drive from Lake Arrowhead Village. Everything you will need for a fun, relaxing getaway is there for you. Enjoy the mountain air, and weather. Maximum 4 people, no children under 5 (except 'babes in arms'. This is NOT a 'party house'. Two night minimum stay except for Thanks Giving, Christmas, and 4th of July. These Holidays require a three night minimum stay.

We really enjoyed the large porch and spent a lot of time taking in the views of the lake and surrounding area, beautiful sunsets, and glimpses of wildlife. The bedrooms are all large and cozy and the large kitchen was perfect for cooking meals for our family. The access to the lake is convenient, along with the nearby trails. I would highly recommend this property for your next vacation!"

- "Overall like the "chateau" very much. Nice having three levels when you have a larger group. Foosball table downstairs was a big plus too. Nicely remodeled kitchen (well appointed) and bathrooms. Would have been nice to have a toilet upstairs but that would be only suggestion." - "The house was perfect and the location was great. It was split levels so you could have 2 families or multiple couples or a large group without feeling cramped. It was decorated so well with the mountain/lake theme which made it feel so homey. You could walk to the village along the road. Everything was comfortable and easy to figure out. My only tiny tiny problem was the door locks. The directions that were emailed were confusing for the two door locks so we had to try several different times and ways to get in. Once we got it, it was fine but I don’t think the directions were correct. Other than that, it was fantastic and I would stay there again."

- "Large open floor plan." - "The home is lovely and very clean. My family of 7 had plenty of room and we enjoyed the ping pong table! We did not get a chance to use the jacuzzi, but would have been nice to." - "The residence was extremely nice, as well as clean. It also had a bigger, more usable yard than most other homes in the area, as well as a normal parking area. The home was fully equipped with any amenities one would need. It had an excellent kitchen, ping pong table, and a great dining/ living room area. We did not bring kids, but between the playground and kids room, they would have had a comfortable stay. We stayed there because of the proximity to the Tavern Bay Beach Club. It was an easy 10 minute walk. For any future stays in Lake Arrowhead, I'd definitely seek this home out again. Easy to find, good parking, a great kitchen, and true cleanliness in a quiet neighborhood."

- "My family loved everything about our stay. The fireplace and patio (with a wonderful view of the pines) where some of the most frequented spaces in the home. The bedrooms comfortable and the bathrooms were well designed. When you enter the cabin you will find yourself in the gorgeous, inviting living room. The large floor to ceiling stone fireplace and original wood-beam ceilings instantly greet you and set the stage for quintessential "cottage-core" ambiance. The leather sofa and oversized armchair are accompanied by plenty of soft throw pillows and blankets –– ready for you to sit back and relax! The entire room is perfectly curated with new designer furnishings, including a Samsung Frame TV, mixed with some of our favorite vintage finds.

Next to the living room is the beautifully renovated and fully-stocked kitchen, well-equipped with all the spices and cooking utensils you could need to prepare a delicious meal with your loved ones. Freshly-filled ice trays in the freezer and a complete barware set ensures that any hour can be cocktail hour. Enjoy your meal around the large rustic-style kitchen table overlooking the front deck and pine trees. Pass through the mudroom on your way to the back patio and be sure to take advantage of the full-size washer and dryer that are sure to make cleaning-up easy after a long day of playing in the snow or hiking the trails.

At the top of the stairs you will find the inviting and serene bathroom, featuring the original shiplap from 1946! Bathe with the thoughtfully selected vegan soaps and lotions and finish up with a full-size hairdryer, all provided so you can just show up and relax. In the primary bedroom you'll rest easy in the comfortable queen size bed with plush bedding on an antique iron bed frame. Unpack and stay awhile with a full dresser and a generously sized closet - which is also big enough to stash your suitcases in and check out your outfit in the full length mirror. The second bedroom has twin size bunk beds with memory foam mattresses and a trundle to sleep a total of three. Plus, an oversized pack-n-play with bonus mattress pad and fitted sheet are included if you're traveling with a baby or toddler.

Our home is nestled among so many gorgeous mature trees that sparkle in the morning dew and calm your mind with the relaxing sound of mountain breezes gently blowing through. The enchanted treehouse vibes abound when you take your meals on the back patio nestled within the massive pines, or unwind with a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the elevated front deck - overlooking the scenic view in total peace and quiet.

Three Things to Know About Our Cabin:

(1) @toadstoolcottage is small but mighty! The entire cabin is only 860 square feet, but the floor plan does make it feel bigger than it is. Because of its petite nature, the cabin may feel a bit intimate for more than 4 adults - but 5 guests can sleep very comfortably, and the couch is not a bad option for a 6th!

(2) Our cabin was built in 1946 which means it is full of character! When remodeled in the fall of 2020, much of the original craftsmanship was intentionally kept to preserve the quaintness and authenticity of the cabin. You may catch glimpses of the age of the cabin in some of the floorboards and the original shiplap. We consider these features and quirks to be well-earned badges of honor and a testament to the home's steadfastness and vintage soul.

(3) Sitting at an elevation of 5,650 ft - our cabin is PURE MAGIC during the snowy winter months; but it can require a little more planning, awareness, and an extra adventurous spirit. A 4-wheel drive/ all-wheel drive vehicle is REQUIRED to stay at our cabin during the snowy months.

Our cabin is two floors, and the stairs are steep. There is a portion of the staircase that can be dangerous for small children. We provide a baby gate that can be placed at the top or the bottom of the stairs. Additionally, as part of the home's original design to allow heat to radiate upwards from the furnace and fill the home with warmth in the winter months, the floorboards of the upstairs also act as the ceiling surface for the downstairs. There is a pass-thru vent strategically placed in the floor of each bedroom to facilitate air flow, with the primary bedroom having the larger one. This systems works well to keep everyone cozy, and little ones will enjoy playing peekaboo between upstairs and downstairs. However if privacy is a concern, the floor vent in the primary bedroom can be easily covered with a pillow - which can also dampen any extra extra noise. There is also a convenient space heater in the primary bedroom you can use to stay extra toasty if desired.

Snow Season:
Every year is different, but snow season is generally from November to April in Lake Arrowhead. We provide sleds that can be used right outside the front door or on the gentle slope of the backyard when there’s snow. There is a comfortable amount of our property that surrounds the home, but please be mindful and respectful of our neighbors' property lines where marked.

During snowy conditions we do REQUIRE a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle. Our neighborhood, like all mountain neighborhoods, can get very icy/slippery when it snows and 2-wheel drive vehicles, even with chains, WILL NOT MAKE IT to our cabin! You are responsible for checking road conditions and planning accordingly. Please monitor weather conditions closely, and make sure you are equipped to both reach and leave the cabin safely within the established check-in and check-out times. We will try to help you in any way we can from our remote position but know that ultimately your hosts are not liable for the whims of Mother Nature.

Our road is plowed by the county, but you may need to shovel the driveway during heavy snowfall. Snow shovels and road salt will be provided.

During severe winter storms, there can be downed tree limbs, road closures, and power outages. Be aware that it can be difficult for workers to restore power, clear roads, or reach the cabin for repairs. If you choose to book a stay during the snowy months, get your adventurous spirit ready. We provide rechargeable flashlights for our guests in the event of a power outage. Start a fire in the fireplace, bundle up, and stay cozy reading, playing board games, or working on a puzzle while you wait for the power to turn back on.

Southern California mountains are notorious for year-round wildfire risk, and fire safety is top priority. It is illegal to have any outdoor fires other than a gas firepit or gas grill used under responsible supervision.
Our fireplace in the living room is functional and wood-burning only. Chopped wood is located outside near the front steps in a covered rack. Please only use the fireplace if you already have prior experience using a wood-burning fireplace, as an improperly-tended fire can quickly generate toxic smoke that can fill the house and pose serious life-threatening health risks. The home's gas forced-air heater works very well and is easily controlled by the Nest thermostat next to the couch. Battery operated flameless candles are provided at the fireplace to simulate the romantic and comforting glow of a flickering fire. It's preferred if the fireplace is only used in the rare event of a total power outage that renders the heater temporarily inoperable. If used, the fireplace should never be left unattended until the fire is completely extinguished. Never allow children to be unsupervised near the active fireplace, nor should children ever be allowed to play with fire.

The upgrades to this cabin are high quality and have a very nice touch throughout. The kitchen was great to have and well-stocked. We were able to cook (plenty of organic spices available), which was fantastic, especially for breakfast. Listen to the information in the listing regarding getting to the cabin; in the Winter, this would be no joke. :-) Plenty of privacy, quiet, and cute. Loved being there. We had one very minor issue, only because we stayed during a truly unusually warm few days in the mid-90s. The listing mentions air conditioning but doesn't mention that it's only in the primary bedroom. The downstairs and second bedroom were definitely warm. There were several very powerful, very nice fans, which helped significantly. Michael was so, SO fantastic in getting back to us with any questions we had, and we were so thankful for their help. Enjoy being there -- we would definitely look to stay here again if we're in the area in the future."

It's pretty simple, our home is yours during your stay! Pintail Lodge includes parking on-site, a gas BBQ grill, the outdoor fire gas fire pit and all the sun, stars and snow you can soak up!

Other things to note
Max of 3 cars at the property at anytime. There is no street parking.

Be Advised: After a snow, mountain residential roads are not plowed as often as the main roads. The lodge is at 5500 feet elevation. In the winter the county plows the road sometime after a snowfall. In case of heavy snow, we will do our best to have the driveway cleared once before your arrival (but this is not always possible). If there is snow, you will need to bring tire chains to safely navigate the road that leads to Pintail Lodge. We cannot guarantee the walkway/ paths and driveway will be completely cleared prior to your arrival. We do provide snow shovels for guests to use for snow removal if necessary. Stairs, walkways and patios and porches can become a slip hazard from the winter weather, please watch your step to prevent injury.

LAKE ACCESS: You will need to get day passes to access the lake. The process to get day passes is as follows:
+ Let us know if you want lake access AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR CHECK-IN so we can call the association and put you on our STR list.
+The guest needs to take our ALA membership card (at the property) and provide ID for all adults wanting a day pass. You will also have to sign ALA liability form.
+Cost: it is $10/day per adult for pass (there is no max days)
+Guest has access to the walking trails around the lake and also can fish/swim from shoreline. Guests are not allowed to use watercraft on the lake or access beach clubs.

Guest access
Must be capable of walking steep steps. There are 50 steps to the first level of the home. This home is not handicap accessible. This is quite common for the mountain. There will be no refunds provided for weather related cancellations within 5 days of arrival, if the road is open to the house the day of check in. The road is regularly plowed to the house during winter snow storms providing great access to enjoy winter in the mountains.

Other things to note
As a note to families with small children, this may not be the most suitable home for you as the majority of the stairs are a bit steep, and the railings on the loft have wide openings. Children should be supervised at all times on the decks.

We welcome dogs at a $25 per day pet fee.
If pets left unattended will need be in crate or kennel or they’ll be $150 additional pet fee

This well designed, spacious 550 sq ft, modern guest studio apartment belongs to a larger house, but has no common walls. It has it's own entrance & deck on one side of the building. It is a great space! A wonderful retreat: private, peaceful and serene.
It is designed for 2 people but works well for three - but if you would like four, you would need to message me with your situation & I'll let you know if it will work. and it is dependent on if there are guests in the main house).
Details:
~ The bedroom area has a very comfy queen size bed which can be curtained off for privacy. This is THE BEDROOM. It has a curtain, not a wall. As I said, this space is designed primarily for 2 people.
~ a third person can be accommodated on the roomy couch - or there is a comfortable futon pad in the closet which can be pulled out. Extra bedding is in the closet. There is also a large closet space that has a place for a smaller person to sleep.
~ mini kitchen with microwave, under counter fridge, Kurig coffee maker, toaster oven, burner, dishes, cutlery, pans. This is not really a space for a lot of cooking but works well for simple fare.
~ deck with lovely forest views
-Swing hammock chair available.
~ stone fireplace (NOTE: gas fireplace does not work. There is a really nice looking, large electric fireplace in front of the opening of the other. This is a heater. )
~ fast wireless internet connection
~ flat screen TV with an Apple tv unit for music, movies and tv programming via netflix, amazon etc & a DVD player.

-NEW SOAKING TUB: this is a unique deep tub to relax in, but caution must be had if there is elderly or kids using it as it can be tricky getting in and out of it.

***PARKING: THERE IS NO PARKING ON THE STREET AT ANY TIME per our rental license.
There is only 1 off road parking space allocated for occupants of this unit. It is to the left of the garage. The other 2-3 parking spaces to the right are for the adjoining house. Cars parked in the street are subject to towing at the car owner’s expense.

~ If you are there in the winter you may need to clear your parking space of snow & also the steps down to the studio. Tools are available for you to do that & I can provide phone numbers for snow clearance, if you wish. The road itself is snow plowed regularly.

CAMERA: There is a camera installed outside the front of the house at the request of the city because of complaints from the neighbors of guests parking in the street.
This is also for your protection.

PETS: There is a dog fee of $50 PER DOG for the entirety of the trip.

Please contact us if you have larger dogs or more/other pets to make arrangements.
Pets are not allowed on any of the beds or furniture because of pet hair etc.
Pets must be housebroken. Please pick up after your pets both outside or if there are accidents in the house.
(Note that it's rare but we have had to charge for additional cleaning and damages.)

They have priority over use of the back yard and decks as well as the fire pit.
You will only have access to the deck immediately outside the apartment as well as the front of the house and neighborhood. If any pets, they will only be allowed inside the apartment, on apartment deck, and out front.
We have not had a problem as guests have always worked it out with other guests.

LAKE ACCESS
Please check with us regarding the access to the nearby private lake. Day use of the lake trails and swimming, fishing etc. is possible, but all guests over 18 will need to get wristbands for the day at the ALA office at the Marina. Please contact us beforehand if you would like to do this. There is also free access to walk along the lake at the Village and viewing areas above the Marina and to the right of the Marina at MacKay Park.

Other fun lakes nearby to relax or swim of hike are LAKE GREGORY and GREEN VALLEY LAKE.

-There is a smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, etc.
-There is a DVD player
-Some books are on hand

SNOW:
The local snow play areas make snow, if necessary, & are usually open from Thanksgiving through March. You would need to check & verify. The closest are in Running Springs which is about 15-20 minutes away: Snow Valley for skiing & Snow Drift for tobogganing (tubing) - very fun for all ages.

The Big Bear Ski resorts are a pleasant drive of about 35 to 45 minutes.

Arrowhead Village:
The Village is outlet shopping heaven :-)
Great restaurants; the Lake Arrowhead resort is a fabulous place to go for a night out; you can go for a boat ride on the Arrowhead Queen which sails daily every hour on the hour year round.

Interaction with guests

We are very responsible & will always make sure everything is "guest ready" for your arrival & that the keys are there for you.
I am quickly available by phone / text or email most of the time.
Messaging via Airbnb is actually the best way to communicate as both Scott and Lupy receive the messages. Two sets of eyes is better than one!

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

NOISE: Ours is a very quiet neighborhood. Please be respectful of others and especially after 10:00pm and before 8:00am is a noise free zone outside.

Although the studio is cleaned regularly, please expect some dust & some cobwebs - how do they materialize so quickly!? This is the mountains & the outdoors is really THE OUTDOORS up here. A quick dust will vanquish all.

Guest access
The entire apartment which is independent of the house and has it's own private entrance.
There are no shared walls with the house.
You must be able to climb stairs as you must walk some stairs to go down to the space.
There is a sturdy wood handrail.

There is a private deck but if you are also renting the main house, the decks can be accessed together.

There are some possible common areas with the house are 1) the parking space- One space on the left of the garage is reserved for the apartment. (Any more cars must park in the free, safe covered parking in the Village which is only .8 miles away. The two spaces to the right are for the house.
2) Fire pit area- This must be shared if there are main house guests present and they have the priority. If nobody is in the main house it is ok to use, otherwise not.

The entire back yard is fenced if you have pets they can run around freely, but if guests are in the main house they have to be in apartment or deck or in front.(Unless you talk with the guests if in the main house to see if it's alright with them to have the pets in the yard.)

There is a nice forest area beyond the fence that is great for having a picnic, strolling, or reading a book!

Because this house has lake rights the studio comes with a lake access pass that is good for 6 people and allows access to the beaches, 2 beach clubs, 2 parks, over 60 lake trails, and fishing along the shoreline and designated docks (you will need a CA fishing license)

This is a lovely accommodation, set in a nice neighborhood, within a short, scenic stroll of the lake/village etc. Everything was clean and ready for us upon arrival. We enjoyed our stay but unfortunately had to depart a night earlier than expected as the gas heater was broken and with the night temps in the low 30s, it was too uncomfortable to sleep. To Michelle's credit, she gave us a partial refund which we both agreed on. We would not hesitate to come back if the heater is repaired!

We had a really great, relaxing weekend. Michelle was easily available should there have been any issues. The fireplace was broken, but I know she tried really hard to get a repair person in. No biggie. Stuff happens. :)

Plus your additional thoughtfulness in sending a photo of the crack in the water joint -after the outside water had been turned off - so that I could see exactly what needed fixing. I'd love to host you both again! The more local ski resort in Running Springs is a very nice alternative to Big Bear & not as crowded. Personally, I love prefer it there. And, of course, Lake Arrowhead is wonderful year round. I have lake rights so my guests have access to all the fun on the lake. There is also great hiking - and even a fantastic & beautiful natural hot springs within hiking distance. One of my favorites :-)

The garage is directly above you & I have it locked deliberately so that there will be no noise below. Somehow the people staying in the main house must found a way to unlock it & their kids got in there!! I will take steps to see that doesn't happen in the future. I am glad it was just a minor inconvenience. I wish you all the best in 2015.

What a beautiful weekend! Michelle told us to contact her about 30 minutes before we arrived so she could "put the fire on." She also called to ask if she could pick anything up for us at the grocery store to have it waiting for us when we arrived. When we got to the cottage, the room was delightfully cozy with a fire going and sweet decorations for the holidays. A bottle of wine awaited us on the counter. Needless to say, Michelle has not only created an intimate and beautiful living environment, but has the hostess touch that means so much. Even though Michelle was so helpful, we did not see her once over the weekend. Meaning, we didn't need to. There were no problems with the cottage at all, and our stay there was very quiet and rejuvenating. The house is an easy walk down hill to the village. Michelle also left detailed instructions on how to get to the village. There's plenty of nature and wildlife in the community as well, exactly what this urban couple needed. We cannot wait to return.

Even though I did not get to meet her, Michelle was a superb host- responding quickly to a last minute reservation, giving me very clear directions and details about the place, and checking in to see that I had arrived and then to make sure that all was well. I felt extremely welcomed even at a distance! The place is indeed a beautiful retreat-very clean with bright and uplifting decor, the bed is super comfortable, the gas fireplace added warmth and ambiance, and there's an awesome outdoor space that feels like you are living in a tree house. The location is ideal- walking distance to the lake in a very quiet neighborhood. the price is really reasonable compared to many others I looked at in the area. I would definitely recommend this place -as it was all I was hoping for and more - and will stay again if I get back that way.

The space
Enjoy the clean fresh mountain air, hiking in the woods, swimming in the lake, and the quaint Scandinavian Village of Lake Arrowhead. Enjoy beautiful mountain views through the expansive windows and from any of the three spacious outdoor decks. Take a short walk to Lake Arrowhead Village for shopping and dining. The cabin sleeps 6 comfortably with 2 rooms with full size bed and sofa bed , one room with a bunk bed.
This is only the 1st level of the house with seperate entrance.

Guest access
Must be capable of walking steep steps. There are 40 steps to the first level of the home. This home is not handicap accessible. This is quite common for the mountain. There will be no refunds provided for weather related cancellations within 5 days of arrival, if the road is open to the house the day of check in. The road is regularly plowed to the house during winter snow storms providing great access to enjoy winter in the mountains.

Other things to note
As a note to families with small children, this may not be the most suitable home for you as the majority of the stairs are a bit steep.Children should be supervised at all times on the decks.
