A newly-built guesthouse with the feel of the Old West.

We are located far enough out of Alpine to give you a rural feel, but in reality being just minutes from downtown, this studio guesthouse gives you the best of both worlds. This is our guesthouse, and sits approximately 30 feet from our house. The patio shown is part of our house, and is therefore a shared space with the owners. However, we are very respectful of your privacy, and all of the facilities are yours to use during your stay.

Sit out on the large covered porch and enjoy watching the quail and other wildlife, or visit with our own assortment of livestock. We are pet-friendly, and can even board horses for a small fee.

After you have enjoyed your day, relax around a fire in the fire pit, or soak in the hot tub while watching the sky for shooting stars and satellites. If you feel like cooking outside, there is a gas grill available, or you can BBQ over the fire in the fire pit.

Inside the guesthouse, you will experience the warmth of rustic and the comfort of modern from the custom-built cedar furniture and cabinetry to the knotty-pine vaulted ceiling, along with the wall of windows opening onto a fantastic view of Alpine against the mountains. The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, sink, cook-top, and pantry. It is equipped with a microwave, toaster oven, automatic coffee-maker, toaster, and cooking utensils.

The queen-size custom-built bed has plenty of storage space under it in case you want to stay awhile. There is also a couch that also serves as a twin XL bed, with the linens stored under the couch.

As you enter the bungalow, you see the attention to detail. The room has a contemporary feel, with a strong accent of the industrial age. The main room is very open, with a kitchen that comes well-equipped with high-end stainless steel appliances. It has a full-size refrigerator, double-bin sink, a very nice gas cook-top, a large convection microwave, and a dishwasher . It also has a toaster oven, automatic coffee-maker, and everything you would need to cook a wonderful meal. There is a breakfast bar that seats 4 people. It adds extra counter top space, or you can enjoy your meals there.

The living area has two large couches that double as XL twin beds. Just pull off the back cushions, put the sheets on, and you are ready for bed. The linens are stored in the space below the couches. The dining room table seats 4 comfortably, and is made from an antique drafting table. There is a 40-inch television set in the living area.

The bedroom is very spacious. It has a king-size bed, a dresser with two large drawers for folded clothes, an armoire to hang clothes, and a built-in luggage rack. There is also a 40-inch television set in the bedroom.

The bathroom has a very spa-like feel, from the tile work and the stainless steel accents to the two vessel sinks and the endless counter top space. The walk-in shower is the the size of a tiny house, with lots of room to move around. This bathroom has to be experienced to be appreciated.

There is a stackable washer and dryer, as well as a separate closet to hang your clothes. Other amenities include an iron and ironing board, another portable luggage rack, and a Pack-and-Play for those with small children.

The guesthouse is climate-controlled with a whisper-quiet heating and cooling system.

Check-in time is 4PM. Check-out time is 11AM. There is a $10/guest per night fee for more than two people.

See the Milky Way in all it's glory in our "dark skies" territory and from the brand new 6-person hot tub ("hot" in the winter - a "cooling pool" in the summer - you adjust the temperature to meet your preferences).

This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life!

The apartment is rustically furnished with brand new custom ordered furnishings, including queen-size beds/mattresses. Also, found in the apartment is a TV in each bedroom and living room, on-site Fiber Optic 5G WIFI, outside lounging furniture on a viewing deck as well as on the ground floor patio. A full-size stove/oven, refrigerator, counter-top ice maker, microwave, filtered drinking water, coffee pot, dishes, pots & pans, linens, towels, washer & dryer (bring your own laundry soap) and an outdoor gas grill are all provided. Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. The apartment comes equipped with a sophisticated mini-split heating and air conditioning system as well as a back-up generator for any unexpected power outage.

The apartment, currently, sleeps 4 but can sleep 6 with the use of 2 new, large, heavy-duty cots with thick cot mattresses, upon request. In addition, if additional space is needed for additional guests, the hosts' original property is also available near by - an RV that can accommodate 4 more guests (please inquire).

The hosts live near, but a bit removed, on the acreage, and are readily available for information/advice and/or socialization (previous guests have remarked how much they enjoyed "happy hour" on the porch with the hosts!) and if any need arises.

The hosts continue to take great pains to insure that our facilities meet and exceed recommended sanitation guidelines.

Please be aware that this is a non-smoking property (due to allergies - both inside and outside) and that no pets are allowed (for your pet's safety). There is a $250 fine for the violation of either of these policies.

Visit Big Bend National Park (just 30 minutes to the west gate) or Big Bend Ranch State Park (just 45 minutes to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center). Enjoy meals, drinks, live music and more at the various restaurants and bars in the area. Sit out at night to watch the stars, tell tall tales, or enjoy a small fire. The Neighborhood:
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.

Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.

People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.

The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)

Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio.

Interaction with Guests:
We manage several properties and live several miles away. We are available by phone, text, email, or messaging. We are typically only on site for cleaning or maintenance issues.

Made out of sand bags,recycled car parts,cooking utensils ,big enough for 1 person (as long you are not 6'4).Build by English architecture student , this unique single unit makes you feel like a bee queen . Electric outlet and light inside. In cold weather heater is provided. In summer it might get hot , no possibility to have an ac. Wifi is good for streaming but might be not enough to use it for remote work .

The space
The Beehive is about 7 feet long 4 feet wide with the bed and very small table inside design just to spend the night . You can use the rest of the facilities during the day.

This small studio size unit is just a stones through down the road from 385 going in Big Bend Park. You will be able to access all of the neat places that are of interest in this area as we are right on Hwy 90. The unit is just been remodeled with all new and I'm sure you will find this small space to be comfortable.

Sunset Ranch is an acre lot at the far southeast corner of Marathon, TX that backs up to the ranch land facing south that provides unobstructed views of sunrises and sunsets from the 700 sf covered porch. Marathon is a quaint west Texas town with a public park, gardens, restaurants and shopping. It also has a level 1 night sky rating for star gazing. Located 40 minutes from Big Bend National Park entrance, this is a launch point to explore the national park and other parks and communities.

The space
Your first experience of Sunset Ranch is the large 700 sf covered porch with dimmable wall lighting and ceiling speakers for ambient music. The views from the porch are excellent for both sunrises and sunsets. Moving into the studio, the complete space is new construction with a mixture of contemporary and western. The kitchen has full amenities, including large farm sink, wood counter top, ample of cabinet space with dish and cookware, and new stainless steel appliances. Drinking water available from kitchen sink with 10 stage water filter. A bluetooth receiver is installed in the wall cabinet that controls the four interior speakers and four porch speakers independently (zones A/B), with a linked tablet playing Pandora radio next to the kitchen sink. The bathroom has a large sink and beautiful walk in tile shower. The bedroom has a custom mixed wood back wall with wall lighting and a very large sliding door closet, which would work well for longer stay guests. The living room windows are placed for a 180 degree panoramic view of the ranch land bordering the property to the south. On the porch, there is a bar with wet sink and gas grill. Around the back on the north wall is the utility closet with washer/dryer. (Keep the utility door open with drying clothes for proper ventilation.) Optional air mattress available for additional guests and/or children.

You have access to the complete property which includes an acre of cleared land with local plants (and wildlife.) There is a large pipe fence on two street/alley sides and small ranch fence land adjacent to the ranch land.

There is also a full RV hookup on the property which you can add to your rental, and you can add additional guests for tent camping on the acre lot. Ask for a special quote for either. The 30/50 amp RV connection can be used as a Tesla charging station as well.

This structure is part of an overall experimental building project we have had going for 15 years. There are other structures on the property made from recycled materials including 'papercrete.' Free dust: it is the desert. You should not expect the Ritz Carlton, but if you have some flexibility and half a 'hippie bone' left in your body, this might be the place for you to expand. This structure was designed and built partially by the same artisan who did a good bit of the foundational work on Eve's Garden, one of the best examples of 'papercrete' building world wide and located in north Marathon.
This building, named 'Na Balom' or 'Jaguar House' in Mayan was constructed in the manner of the ubitious conical structures in Southern Italy, all through desert communities in the Middle East, Africa and is comfortable for two.

Come try this amazing edifice in the wilds of the far west Texas, trans-pecos region just north of Big Bend National Park. Free dust and scorpions are constants as is the overwhelming brilliance of the great via lactea (milky way). No TV's here , WiFi is available free of charge so are the stars 🌌

Please wash the dishes, hang the towels when you done. since none of the structures on the property had water, in order to make it more private, the toilet is in one of the corners behind the curtain,( not for everyone ),otherwise you can walk about 150 ft to the communal bathroom.

This is a great little adobe house located in Marathon Texas, the Gateway to the Big Bend. The Garcia House is a renovated one-bedroom adobe cottage on the south side of Marathon. It sits on a quiet street just a few blocks from the center of town.

The space
Many of you are familiar with the Garcia house as it has been on the vacation rental market for a few years under Adobe Hacienda Lodges website. We have been working on a remodel, so if you have stayed here before, there are a few changes. .

We have recently replaced all the windows and doors so you can now open them up to enjoy the fresh air, and we've enclosed our Washer/Dryer into a cabinet, opening up the kitchen space. We have also added a shipping container to the backyard and are working on making this a storage and office space. (Please note, updated pictures have not been uploaded to this AirBNB site yet)

A king sized bed is located in the combined living room/bedroom. (For those that have stayed here in the past, we have removed the single bed that was previously in the side room). You can relax and plan your day, or sit and recover with a good book, or just settle in for a nap before heading to the White Buffalo for a drink and perhaps some live entertainment down at the Gage.

If you’d prefer to plan your day from the outside, we encourage you settle into the cantina tables and chairs out under the trees. It’s a good place to sit with your beverage of choice. A neighbor may meander by for a chat.

There is a small equipped kitchen with basic essentials (Stove, refrigerator, cooking utensils/pots/pans, coffee maker, toaster, etc.), and there is a private bath with a shower decorated in wonderfully authentic Mexican tile. A full size stack-able washer/dryer has been added. A/C and heat are provided by a new split unit air conditioner. (We have left the wall mounted propane heater inside the house as a heating alternative).

A note on pets: We love pets, especially well behaved ones. It's important for you to know that pets are not allowed to hike in Big Bend National Park. They are allowed in Davis Mountains State park and in parts of Fort Davis. If you are bringing a pet, we ask that you disclose this at the time of your reservation as we do not automatically accept pets, and we do charge $10 extra per night for them to cover additional housekeeping.

Staying here welcomes you into the area and the great ambiance of the Big Bend area, and we hope you enjoy your stay.

Our lovely, blue-green house was built from a Sears kit in the 1920s. It has been extensively remodeled in the last few years and is a wonderful, comfortable place to stay during your visit to the Big Bend area.

My wife and I actually stayed in this house years ago, on one of our first trips to Big Bend, and fell in love with it. We had the opportunity to come out to the region for work and knew we wanted to make this house our home.

The space
There is a wonderful stone patio out back where you can watch the stars. On clear nights, you can see the Milky Way, satellites, and shooting stars.

IF YOU USE THE CHARCOAL GRILL OR THE FIRE PIT, PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS VERY DRY COUNTRY AND TAKE A FEW EXTRA PRECAUTIONS:
•Never leave a fire or lit grill unattended.
•I know the pit is huge and a massive bonfire is tempting, but please keep fire to a reasonable size.
•The only outdoor faucet is in the front yard. THE FAUCET IN THE BACK YARD DOES NOT WORK. There is a hose long enough to reach the back yard. Please be sure to leave the hose connected to the faucet and drag the end to the back yard before you light the grill or pit.
•To put out a fire in the pit – let all the wood burn away, then pour water on it. Leave the wet ashes there overnight.
•Same for charcoal – pour some water on the burnt-out coals and close the lid tight. Leave the cover off. There are a couple bricks on the bottom shelf of the grill to help keep the grill from blowing over (it gets really windy out here.)
•The next day, pour more water on the charcoal or wood. The fire pit, especially, can still be hot. When they are cool enough, dispose of the ashes in the ash can, next to the gate on the west side of the house. Don’t dump coal or ashes on the ground.

Welcome to the historic home of Monroe Payne. Built over 100 years ago, this adobe has been lovingly restored and provided with modern amenities making you feel at home. You are looking at Duplex B. It is one large room with a kitchen and bathroom.

The space
The Monroe Payne House is a duplex home named after the original resident. It is divided into two independent units, each with living area, kitchen, bath, and laundry facilities. It has a one-bedroom unit (Unit A) with a queen bed and an efficiency unit (Unit B) with a king bed. Unit A is wheelchair-accessible. Both open onto a large shaded porch offering beautiful mountain and sunset vistas. It is on a quiet street near the edge of town just a few minutes’ walk from shops and eateries.

The Blas Payne is a historically significant true mexican adobe. It has been lovingly renovated with handmade cupboards from Mexico and a wonderful patio where you can watch the sunsets. Easy walking distance to downtown and the Post Park.

Blas Payne was named "the best cowboy in west Texas" by the Houston Chronicle. His great grandfather was a medal of honor winner as a trumpeter for the Army. His family were part of a group of black seminole Indians who did scouting for the Army.

The space
The Blas Payne is a 100+ year old adobe. The Blas Payne is a Mexican adobe--with original items from Mexican artisans throughout the home. After a recent rennovation guests can enjoy the original exposed adobe. The bathroom was just totally redone with a wonderful tile walk-in shower, new commode and a unique sink. The house has raised ceilings, art by local artists and a fabulous patio to watch sunrises, sunsets and the darkest skies in the country!

You will have access to the entire home. There is a cupboard to the left of the kitchen sink which has coffee, tea, sweeteners and the spices there are available for the guests.

The items on the bottom cupboard, the double doors on the east wall, are for the owners use.

There are books throughout the home which are there for guest's enjoyment as well as music CD's and board games in TV cupboard in living room.

The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction stove top, a convection oven in which I have cooked a turkey, a microwave, oversized electric skillet, and crock pot (between the electric skillet and the crock pot I've cooked gourmet meals). There are also two electric hot plates for more cooking options.

On the northeast corner boundary of Marathon with beautiful views of the Glass Mountains. Very quiet and feels remote but is a 15-20 minute walk to town. King size tempurpedic and a Queen size Duksiana. Wonderful light throughout house. I have made my house available only to a private list of friends for years and they all love it. It is just now available to the public, which is why I don't have any reviews right now. It is a gem of a place that only a handful of people have known about.
