Snow plowing on neighborhood roads is provided by local vendors and intermittent. Cottonwood Lodging does not have control over plowing. DO NOT TAKE UBERS OR LYFTS TO THIS PROPERTY. Plan to check in by 8pm to avoid unplowed roads if it is storming and note that this home can accommodate ONLY 2 vehicles preferrably parked in the garage so plowing can occur easily.

You can walk to the Canyons' Cabriolet (known as the 'People Mover') or take one of the FREE and frequent shuttles to the Canyons' lifts (we're at the base), Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort or Historic Main Street.

The Big Cottonwood Cabin, minutes from Solitude and Brighton ski resorts in the heart of the famous Wasatch Range, and a short drive to Alta and Snowbird, is a unique hand-crafted log home built in 1997 by a Master Craftsman. The Altabird Chalet is perched between Alta and Snowbird. Just a short free shuttle ride to Alta Ski Area, and a short free shuttle ride and ski to Snowbird. It offers stunning panoramic views of the entire breadth of Little Cottonwood Canyon from Patsy Marley to Mt. Superior and beyond. Designed by a lifelong Alta resident to take full advantage of sun, snow, and views with windows and skylights, the Altabird Chalet is a welcoming environment perfect for multi-family ski vacations.

It has six bedrooms each with its own bathroom and full closet, and a newly renovated kitchen fully equipped for the modern chef. Kitchen/dining design makes for quality group interaction while preparing and enjoying meals and hosting apres-ski. Kitchen doubles as a crow's nest.

The living room layout makes for a perfect gathering place. In addition, the den downstairs provides kids with a separate hang-out area. Both rooms have TVs and media centers.

The Altabird Chalet is a home away from home. Its comfortable cozy decor makes for a great place to stay whether you are coming in from a full day skiing/boarding, or taking a day off. You can x-country ski and snowshoe out the door or enjoy soaking in the view from the private outdoor hot tub.

**Google maps will want to bring you to the lower parking lot entrance. Avoid that. The main entrance is through the large green garage door located off the main highway just before Gate E. The kitchen is on this level. There's an extra fridge in the garage.
**You'll want to get supplies before coming up the canyon. Smith's grocery store is good. They have a *click list* you can order online and pick up. I would go to the one on 3300 S. off of the belt route I-215 heading east to the ski areas. There's a state liquor store nearby.

Float down the Provo River in inner tubes and visit the state and national parks and Bridal Veil Falls nearby. Rent bicycles at White Pines Touring nearby, located right on the famous Rail Trail off street paved bike trail. The Red Fern Chalet is a beautiful hand crafted custom built ski home with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 1 full kitchen, open fire places, a number of decks and balconies including a mountain deck with a hot tub, a private parking space for two vehicles. This makes the house perfect for a big family or large group.

The Red Fern is located between world famous powder ski resorts of Alta and Snowbird with incredible panoramic mountain views, particularly from the main deck. The resort enjoys incredible skiing conditions year in, year out with an average of about 50 feet of snow per annum over that last 10 years (that's more than 14 metres).

In the Summer months it's a stunningly beautiful, creekside location and an ideal base for hiking, climbing, camping and all other outdoors pursuits that Utah State has to offer.

At any time of the year, the Red Fern is a terrific environment to unwind. It has been furnished with comfort and cosiness in mind and does not have that 'rental property' vibe. The Red Fern is generously equipped with an extensive library, hundred of games, and an amazing entertainment system reaching every room and living area. The kitchen is fully equipped for the most ambitious chef.

Rion is our caretaker, an old timers at the Alf Engen Ski School. If you need a good guide and want to cut the long lift lines at Alta or Snowbird you can hire Rion through the Alta Ski Shcool. Rion lives in a seperate caretaker apartment in the house. He is there to make your stay as fun and carefree as possible. He knows the resort as well as anyone and will be happy to help you with any questions or queries from booking a chef or a masseur or a restaurant, to introducing you to Dr Ken at the Alta Clinic if you get bitten by an Alta snow snake and twist a knee. He can arrange transport from the airport or into Salt Lake for excursions, food shop for your arrival and organise housecleaning, all depending on how exactly you want and enjoy it.

We were there while there was quite a bit (4 or 5 feet) of snow, and they did a great job of keeping the parking lot plowed. The unit was very comfortable, and I would definitely stay there again! The condo had everything we needed and really was within walking distance to get to the gondola that goes to the chairlifts. We cooked our breakfasts and one supper and got groceries from a nearby Whole Foods. There was a nice variety of cooking pans, dishes etc. The bed in the bedroom was very comfortable. Our son slept on the sofa sleeper which was comfortable once we located the foam topper to put on it. The bathroom set up is nice with 2 different sink areas that have doors to the toilet/tub/shower room. This was a perfect set up for us. The owner, Marnie responded promptly to emails and answered the phone right away when we were trying to find dishwasher detergent. The fireplace makes it cozy and provides heat for the main area. The glass front though does need a cleaning on the inside. The only thing we missed (unless we didn't see it) is a welcome notebook that would give more directions and suggestions like places to eat, how to get to the pool/hot tub, where to find the walking path to the gondal etc. My son and husband really enjoyed the skiing at Park City and I hope after rehabing my knee I can join them again for a repeat stay!"

The living room is small – it seats 3 adults comfortably but felt cramped with all 4 of us. The gas fireplace works well. The bathrooms are nice except for a few flaws. There is no shelf in the 1st floor bathroom for toiletries. The steam shower wasn't hooked up. The shower’s body jets don't do much because of a lack of water pressure. Both bathrooms need more hooks for towels & clothing. The bedrooms are cozy & the mattresses are comfy. The master gets a lot of sunlight in the morning. TV's in both bedrooms are a nice bonus. We made a few requests during our stay. There was no dish liquid and we wanted a non-slip mat for the shower. Both items arrived within 24 hours of being requested. We asked for a slightly early check-in (2:00) and our request was granted. We were happy with the Acorn Chalet, and we loved our time in Park City! Highly recommended, especially during ski season."

Under the TV in living room, there are 2 baskets that have twin bedding in them. (These are labeled). The throws are just in the basket by the fireplace or on the couch. In the office, the bedding is in a bag by the desk and a throw on the couch. In the Master Bedroom, the throw is on the couch. The bedding is in a bag on the shelf of the free standing closet organizer. In the King Bedroom upstairs, the bedding is in the dresser and the throw is in the dresser too or on the bed.

This home is not pet friendly and we do not allow pets. The County will assess $500 fines if you are caught in the canyon with a dog.

Addition Considerations for Tenant:

This is a smoke-free property. Violation of the no-smoking policy will result in forfeiture of the security deposit, a $300 smoking fee, and liability for any fire/smoke or property damage costs.

PETS - We love pets, but they must be quiet and cared for. Pets are not allowed on beds or furniture. Pet non-refundable deposit for additional allergy/hair clean process for property is $275. Damage from door/window scratches, furniture chewing, and furniture snow/mud soiling are not covered in clean fee. All property areas including patio and front street must be clean of feces. "No barking" is heavily enforced due to neighbor's right to quiet enjoyment.

As part of our commitment to being good neighbors, occupancy limits and quiet hours (9:30pm-8am) are strictly enforced. Violation of any noise ordinances will be subject to fines that can reach up to $10,000 per violation from City. Events or parties are not allowed without prior written approval. Any unauthorized parties or events will be shut down and a fine will be assessed. Please inquire for more information about our event policies and fees.

For those in search of a more difficult hike, there are four beautiful mountain lakes that constantly draw the attention of the ambitious hiker. The popular Guardsman's Pass mountain biking trails bring spectacular views and perfect terrain. Photographers have a heyday at Brighton because of the many amazing images to capture which include fields of the famous Brighton wildflowers. The views captivate tourists as well, who are making their way to Chalet Utah. After exploring the area and taking advantage of the many activities, most days end with a relaxing evening BBQ.

We feature individual private chalets of all sizes for guests who want something more unique than the usual hotels or condos. Our suites come in all sizes, from luxury bridal suites for honeymooners to Manor Chalets with a 1,500 sq. ft. grand room, which we built for ski clubs, family reunions, seminars, and meetings of all types. Positioned just across the street from Brighton Resort's Milly Express, Our Brighton Chalets provide easy access to the mountain resort!

Other Things to Note:
The Town of Brighton and Big Cottonwood Canyon are extremely important “protected watershed areas” supplying high quality and high quantity drinking water to the thirsty Salt Lake Valley and thus dogs and pets are not allowed in these locations. This home is not pet friendly and we do not allow pets. The County will assess $500 fines if you are caught in the canyon with a dog.

Prepare a quick snack or a large feast in the fully stocked kitchen. Your kitchen features beautiful quartz countertops and modern appliances with everything you will need to cook magnificent dinners. We have both Keurig and drip coffee machines and provide Keurig coffee (including decaf) and hot cocoa for your enjoyment.

The dining area is perfect for enjoying a meal with your group and guests. The indoor dining table has enough chairs for 6 guests with additional seating in the living room if needed. You'll find high end dinnerware with place settings for 8. You'll find a full spice rack and all of the pots, pans and other cooking utensils you'll need to make thanksgiving dinner (or something less ambitious of course). The kitchen and dining room flows effortlessly into the spacious living room, with vaulted cathedral ceilings and large windows letting the natural light and scenery in. Whether you want to open up your laptop to plan adventures for the day, host a dinner party, or just want to take things easy, this open concept living room gives you all the space you need.

Historic Home:
The cottage was originally built in 1968 by a rocket scientist (true story). We are the 3rd owners of the home. The natural rock fireplace is made out of slate stone that the original owner gathered from the Storm Mountain area of the canyon which wouldn't be legal to do today. When we remodeled, we considered removing it but opted to keep as much of the historic features of the home while ensuring that it is comfortable, up to date with modern appliances and features and safe.

Outside Space:
The cottage is situated on a half-acre of private property with old growth Engleman spruce trees covering the area. Lounge on the large deck, fire up the gas BBQ or enjoy smores by the campfire outside your front door. Hop up in one of the hammocks and enjoy a good book or a nap with the cool mountain breeze as your companion!

There is ample parking for 2 cars year-round. In the summer, there is space for a 3rd additional car if needed.

This cottage is in a residential area and showing respect to the neighbors is very important. Parties will be shut down and noise and other ordinances are enforced by local officials. We want your stay to be a great experience for everyone so if you're unsure if the cottage will work for your group, please reach out to ask and we will be happy to help.

The grill is located on the back deck; however, it is not available for use during the winter months. Both the grill and the deck are considered summertime amenities, as the weather conditions make them inaccessible and unsuitable for use during this season.

The property is equipped with a device that monitors smoke, carbon monoxide and noise levels (but does not record audio or video of any kind). It notifies the host if the noise level gets loud enough to disturb neighbors. We also have one camera outside of the chalet to monitor the property for your safety and security.

The parking area and the access pathway were plowed nicely so there was no trudging through snow necessary. Beds comfortable, kitchen well stocked, internet worked well, and the large tv in the main room was setup to get most major streaming services. Now if you are like me and love to build a fire in the fireplace on a snowy winter's night, you will be disappointed. The beautiful fireplace has an electric faux flame insert which although authentic looking, sadly puts off no heat and no wood burning charm. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends."

One thing to know is that the 2 downstairs bedrooms have independent heating per room each with a heater rated for rooms much larger than they are. These rooms get hottt if if you want but will be colder on check in to save electricity so turn on the heaters when you arrive to your preferred temperature.

We are dog friendly but please refer to our house rules about pets.

We do not provide wood or lighters/matches for the fire pit but we do have teloscopic smore/hot dog pokers!! Buy some wood and matches if you wanna roast!

The Wifi and Modem is located in the south west starry night room and the second mesh router is in the living room. If you need to reset please unplug the modem only ( mounted on the wall ) then wait for 2 minutes before plugging back in ( this shouldnt be needed we have never had an issue. )

We also have a back yard gated and locked parking spot available if you want to lock up and leave for a few days. The key to the lock is in the check in instructions.

This area is also known as “Brewery Row”.

You are very close to the freeway and you can definitely hear it but when you’re inside the house it’s not obnoxious. It’s just a nice buzz. You can walk about three parcels to the south and you are at a very popular brewery called level crossing or if you walk north about two blocks you reach more brewery options and we are super close to the Commonwealth concert room where concerts are held.

We do have a security camera in the front and the back of the property monitoring the outside of the property only and it records audio and video

Garbage day: The city comes and picks up the garbage cans at the front of the house at the curb on Mondays. If you happen to be coming over a Sunday/Monday/Tuesday timeframe would you please roll the garbage cans out to the curb on Sunday evening in anticipation for the pick up on Monday? And then bring them back in Monday afternoon or Tuesday? Our housekeeper also knows the day and she does it when she has a turnover that overlaps these dates

Utah is a high desert climate and as such there are house ants, occasional harmless spiders, or Box Elder bugs that are usually seen more during seasonal changes such as going from winter to spring or vice versa. As responsible hosts, we have agreed to a pest control contract with Uintah Pest Control to service all our properties. Sightings are rare, but are possible. An occasional sighting is not considered a reflection of the cleanliness of the property.

WINTER CONDITIONS:
Winter road conditions bring on a new meaning when driving to the top of tollgate. Must have 4x4 or AWD and Winter Rated Tires to book this rental from Oct 15th to April 30th or whenever a chance of snow is coming. Winter Driving Experience is a must. The roads are plowed daily, but a lot of snow can pile up quickly between plows.
