The adjacent kitchenette has a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker for those times when you just want to stay in instead of hitting the local restaurants and pubs. Beyond the kitchenette is a king bedroom with super comfortable mattress and another Samsung 50" smart TV is hung on the upper wall facing the bed. There is an additional space behind the apartment that houses a washer and dryer shared with the neighboring suite. The bathroom is modern with a walk in shower that has both a handheld shower head and a ceiling mounted rain shower head. The bathroom also features a heated floor. Step out the front door, turn right and in less than 100 feet you will be on Mason Avenue, the main commercial street in Cape Charles with many specialty shops and eateries. As a matter os fact, Kelly’s Gingernut Pub is right at the intersection and Brown Dog Ice Cream is less than a half block away if you take a left at the intersection. If you turn right on Mason, it’s a short two blocks to the uncrowded Cape Charles Beach on the Chesapeake Bay. There is space behind the apartment to store beach chairs, wash off sandy feet and hang beach towels to dry.

Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The Lodge was once a thriving motel located in the quaint seaside village of Cheriton. The lodge offers a simple, clean, convenient vacation rental for families, fishing buddies, hunters, weekend away and anyone who just wants a break from life. The Chesapeake Bay beaches are within a 6 mile radius of our Lodge and The Atlantic Ocean is accessible by public boat ramps in the area. A day trip either north or south offers lots of activities to do. The short trip across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel will have you arriving in Virginia Beach...the Norfolk Zoo is 41 miles from here! Virginia Beach offers the "OceanFront" where you can go to the beach, dine, and shop all within the same area.

North of us the the waterfront village of Onancock with a great shopping experience of small town shopping. You can also catch the ferry to Tangier Island to take a step back into time and visit a true "Waterman's Village" But be prepared to walk or rent a golf cart as there are no cars on Tangier Island.

Don't forget our local State Park: Kiptopeke! There is beachfront for a day in the sun. A fishing pier for your favorite fisherman. And a view of the "Concrete Ships" a marvel in themselves. There are lots of walking trails through out the park and lots of friendly faces to help you with any questions!

Fishing on the Eastern Shore is world-class so bring your boat, we have plenty of room to park it and your vehicle. If you need a list of local public boat ramps to launch from whether you want bayside fishing or seaside fishing we have that too. We have a designated fish cleaning station as well.

At the end of the day, come on in and relax in your apartment, with a very large kitchen with all the cooking implements you will need and lots of storage. A hot shower in the large bathrooms and a comfy bed await the end of your day.

Welcome to our warm and welcoming 1906 apartment, just one block from the beach. We've designed the apartment to be comfortable, with an emphasis on creating an easy escape for those looking for a change of scenery after such a challenging year.

The living room has a large sectional for family and friend hangouts. There you will also find an assortment of puzzles, games, building blocks, and books for quiet afternoons, as well as a large SmartTV for you to access all of your own media. One thing to note, the TV has apps you can use to watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney, etc. but we do not have satellite or cable at this time.

The first bedroom has a spacious king bed, along with twin bed and the second bedroom has a queen bed. A pack n' play and a stroller available are available, if needed. Both rooms include blackout blinds, noise machines, and fans. The kitchen is fully equipped with all new pots, pans, dinnerware, cutlery, etc. There is also a large washer and dryer.

This rental is one block from the beach, a public park and playground, as well as Mason Street, which full of local restaurants, local shops and bakeries. Everything is within walking distance, though renting a golf cart is fun way to get around town.

Cape Charles has something for everyone. It is perfect for families with young children, as the water is calm and shallow, but equally fun for anyone looking for a beach getaway. We love to paddleboard, kayak, or fish and are happy to give recommendations. It is easy to find hermit crabs at low tide, and we often see a variety of birds including bald eagles and blue herons. Sunsets on the bay are a highlight and not to be missed!

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pets at this time due to a severe allergy.

Important to know: This duplex is on the first floor of a house. There is a family who lives upstairs on the second floor. The entrances are completely separate, so there are no shared spaces. They are careful to be quiet in the evenings and mornings to ensure guests are not disturbed. The only time it has ever been an issue is July 4th when kids are out later than normal for fireworks. The owners are always available via phone or text should any issues arise. The apartment is on separate HVAC and plumbing systems, and the apartment is thoroughly cleaned in between visits following CDC recommendations.

It's just a 2 or 3 minute drive or golf cart ride (or a 5 minute walk) from Mason Avenue and the beach, with a beautiful balcony view of the harbor, and all the fascinating activity that goes on there, including the neighboring Coast Guard station. The studio apartment was clean, quiet, and spacious, with all the basics in the kitchenette - including coffee pods and condiments for the Keurig! The countertop ice maker is really convenient - a perfect complement to the mini fridge. There are so many great restaurants in Cape Charles that you don't need a full kitchen for just a few days. Smitty is the perfect host, even though he runs a busy marina. He's always friendly and ready to chat about Cape Charles, the marina, or the history of the area. Renee is super helpful at the marina office, always ready to answer questions. We highly recommend The Captain's Quarters if you're looking for a quick getaway to beautiful Cape Charles!"

The Portal is a charming, just-renovated upscale 2nd floor, 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath apartment accessed by steps, on Mason Avenue, the town’s thoroughfare and the heart of Cape Charles’ quaint shopping and dining area. It has views of the town’s harbor from the great room and its 15 x 15 ft deck is perfect for people watching. The beautiful soft sand town beach is only 3 1/2 blocks away.
The great room is contemporary with comfortable furniture, 54-inch smart TV, reading area with books and games, gourmet kitchen, and a dining area with seating for six. There is a keyboard in the console under the TV for those who want to use one with the TV. The few stairs in the great room lead out to the spacious, sunny deck, which is unique on Mason Avenue. Enjoy outdoor dining, comfortable chairs for happy hour, a chaise lounge, and Weber grill (utensils inside). The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, serving ware, cookware, and has new large and small appliances, including dishwasher, microwave, and induction stove with pot filler. Enjoy a cup (Keurig) or pot (Cuisinart) of morning joe on the deck and watch the boats coming and going in the harbor. Walk downstairs and under the deck is the delightful, delicious, gourmet northern Italian restaurant, Ambrogia, open for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Also 1 block west are the delightfully delicious Cape Charles Coffee House and Bakery on Mason.
The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, desk (for those who still must work remotely a bit), reading chair, and ensuite bathroom. The hall bedroom has one full-size bed and one twin bed, with the full bath adjacent in the hall. The curved walls in the hall bedroom are original plaster, preserved during the renovation, as are the doors and their hinges. Both bedrooms have smart TVs. Windows in all rooms have blinds; for those who sleep in a totally dark room, please bring your sleep mask.
In May 2022, Cape Charles was named “One of the South’s Best Beach Towns” by Southern Living Magazine. It is surrounded by water on three sides (soft sand town beach on the west, town harbor on the south, and King's Creek Marina on the north, and has lovely Central Park in the middle where free concerts are held during Saturday evenings in the summer. You’re sure to enjoy the town’s wonderful ambiance! The Portal is located just 3 1/2 blocks from the beach and has a convenient outdoor shower. Four beach chairs are stacked behind the shower.
The Portal is your gateway to a relaxing, coastal vacation in a space created with design, comfort and convenience in mind, which reflects the owners’ lifelong appreciation for the waters of our planet. Its name is derived from the restored brass porthole, which was salvaged in 1969 from a ship breaker yard in Taiwan and installed as a window in the great room, along with the brass ship’s wheel in the stairwell. Art in the apartment reflects the coastal environment of the Eastern Shore, watermen, and the ecological vulnerability of the Chesapeake Bay. The framed poster of the Chesapeake Bay in the great room was a work product of the one of the owners; a gold star marks Cape Charles.

This lovely downstairs apartment is located in the village of Cheriton. We have a nice park, an antique store and galleries that are open on occasion 🤣. Although we are not a golf cart community, we do have a park and quite streets for walking. The resort town of Cape Charles with it’s beach, restaurants and shops is about four miles to the west and Oyster Seaside boat landing is just to the west. To the south is the beautiful Kiptopeake State Park.

- "This first-floor apt was perfect for us. This was just a quick birthday trip without kids. The weather didn't cooperate with our plans to sit on the beach (which is maybe 10 minutes away east and west) but there's plenty to do in "downtown" Cape Charles. Lots of cute stores and restaurants (and one of the best bakeries I've ever been to), as well as a brewery and a distillery. The house doesn't have a stove, so plan accordingly, but other than that, there's a full kitchen. We made use of the charcoal grill. The space feels cozy but not cramped, and there's no noise pollution, even from upstairs (at least on weekends. Can't say what it's like during the week--it's attached to Gail's store/gallery). Definitely recommend staying here, and we'll plan to return and hope for better weather!"

Spacious & Comfortable Layout
This two-level unit spans the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 1920s historic quadplex.

Second Floor: From the private foyer, ascend to a cozy open-concept living and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen. This floor also includes a full bathroom and a bedroom with two Full-size beds.

Third Floor Loft: The spacious primary suite offers a King bed, dedicated office/desk area, a cozy reading nook, and an en-suite bathroom with a stand-up shower.

Modern Comforts & Historic Charm
Enjoy the convenience of a full-size washer and dryer in the kitchen, high-speed Wi-Fi, and three smart TVs with access to streaming apps and cable. All furnishings are brand new, blending modern comfort with thoughtful design. Climate control is easy with an Ecobee smart thermostat and four remote-controlled ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living areas.

For a Restful Stay
As part of a historic quadplex, you may occasionally hear sounds from neighboring units. To ensure a restful night's sleep, noise machines are provided in both bedrooms for your comfort.

Pet-Friendly
We welcome one small, well-behaved dog with a $100 pet fee. Please include details about your pet in your booking request for approval. A pet waiver must be completed prior to check-in.

Outdoor Features
While the front porch is shared with downstairs neighbors, guests have access to a side-yard patio with pavers, five beach chairs, and a hose for rinsing off sandy feet after a day at the beach.

Please Note:
This is a lovingly preserved 1920s home, updated with modern appliances and furnishings while retaining its original charm—including vintage windows, wood floors, five-panel doors, mortise-style locks, and traditional staircases. Guests must be able to climb stairs to access the unit.

Guest access
Guests will have private access to the entire 2nd and 3rd floors of left side the home. Entry is through a shared front porch and foyer. A private entryway to the unit's foyer with interior staircase leading up to the 2nd floor. Inside, you’ll have full access to all spaces, including:

2 bedrooms (one on each floor)
2 full bathrooms
Fully equipped kitchen
Living and dining areas
In-unit washer and dryer

You’ll also have access to the side yard, where you’ll find pavers with beach chairs and a hose for rinsing off after a beach day.

Please note: While the front porch is shared with residents of the downstairs unit, the rest of your stay is completely private.

"The Back Nine" is located in a quiet neighborhood in the Bay Creek Community but just minutes from the historic town! This condo features a garage on the first level that contains a foosball table. Community amenities are 2 pool areas and access to a private community beach.

The main living space is on the second floor with 3 bedrooms and a large living room and dining area. Bedroom one hosts a queen size bed and a large ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom includes a full size bed. Just past the shared hallway bathroom, find the third bedroom with a queen bed. All bedrooms have huge walk in closets, perfect for storage. The kitchen has all the necessities to enjoy dinner at the dining table or on the balcony!

We offer convenient door codes for self-check-in. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro uses convenient keyless entry for self check-in, details provided 2 weeks (or less) prior to arrival by email and text message.

• Early check-ins or late check-outs: If the property happens to be ready earlier than the standard 4 pm check-in time on the day of your arrival, in most cases an early arrival option may be available when confirmed with the main office. Late check-outs must be confirmed with main office staff prior to the date of departure.

• While the complimentary resort amenities of the Bay Creek Resort are included, please note the Members Life Center is not available to guests.

Please pay close attention to following the house rules. Non compliance could result in sizable fines.
- All guests staying at an Chesapeake Properties Vacation Rentals by Portoro (Portoro Homes) are required to sign (esignature) a rental agreement and complete identity registration.
- Age restrictions apply. Reservation holder must be 25 years of age.

- Known damages incurred during your stay must be reported to the property manager immediately.
- Before check in, we will send you detailed directions to ensure a seamless arrival.
- Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Check-out time is 10:00 a.m.
- We cannot guarantee early check ins or late checkouts. When it is possible to check in early or check out late, there will be a fee for anything outside of a one hour window within our standard times. If your need for an early check in or late check out is great, your best option is to book an additional night.
- Some homes have cameras for external monitoring only.
- HOTEL TAX COLLECTION: In the State of Virginia and in Northampton County, all hotel and vacation rental hosts are required to collect hotel tax. We collect these taxes within the booking transaction.
- Some homes offer pools/hot tubs, or access to communal pools. There is no guard around the water features when available. Use at your own risk.
- This is a No Pets property. A daily rate fee of $150.00 will apply for violations and you may be asked to vacate the premises with no refund at the discretion of the Host.
