A perfect place in the centre of the beautiful village of Branscombe for a peaceful and relaxing holiday and an ideal base for exploring this wonderful area of East Devon and the Jurassic Coast.
Due to the challenging circumstances of CV19, the apartment will be thoroughly cleaned between guests and all hard surfaces wiped down. The countryside is excellent for walks with minimal social interaction and the apartment is well equipped for self catering.
The quiet, unspoilt beach is a 5 minute stroll away alongside a stream, with just one thatched roof cafe, with outside seating area, serving delightful home cooked food. Fishing trips are available from the fishing village of Beer, 3 miles away. There is a real ale pub close by, also with an outside eating area.
This lovely Devon holiday accommodation consists of an entrance hall leading to a spacious, tastefully furnished sitting room with separate dining area, seating up to eight people. The kitchen is very well equipped for those of you who like to do your own cooking. The sleeping accommodation consists of a comfortable double bedroom and a second bedroom with bunk beds. There is a bathroom with an electric shower over the bath. We often stay at the apartment ourselves and have made sure that it is thoughtfully furnished with everything you need to make your holiday thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing. It is also very competitively priced in this much sought after holiday area.
Please note in high season bookings are on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday.
Branscombe is a small picturesque village situated on the Jurassic coast of East Devon. It has been featured in the Guardian as one of the best British beaches. East Devon is full of character with many country cottage towns and villages.The countryside is stunning, and there are many gorgeous walks inland and on the coast, including the South West Coastal footpath with it's amazing coastal panoramas from the clifftops.The village itself has a national trust farm, watermill, tea house and forge.

The loft bedroom has a king sized double bed and its own en suite with bath and shower. The lower bedroom has twin single beds. There is a separate bathroom on this floor with a shower. The kitchen has an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, kettle and all the cutlery, crockery, etc that you will require. The lounge has 2 sofas, plus a 43” smart TV, DVD player and stereo. The whole property has double glazing and central heating. There is parking enough for 2 cars which is a rare luxury considering its position in Beer and proximity to the shops, pubs and beach.

Access is from the back of the building, but it is a short walk around to the seafront. Seaton has some very interesting buildings and the Axemouth harbour end is lovely. The other end of the bay has interesting rocks and cliffs, and the labyrinth cut out of the grass in the park above is fun. For fishing, there is a well-stocked bait shop on the other side of the harbour bridge."

Access to this apartment is from the front of the building (The Counting House) into a shared hall with its intercom system. There are then stairs to the first floor and the apartment. As you enter, you’ll notice it’s very light and bright and that there is oak flooring throughout except for in the luxury carpeted bedroom. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has two large windows overlooking the square, a TV, a dining table and chairs, and a well-fitted and equipped kitchen for crafting tasty meals. Staying on this level, there is a fully tiled, luxury shower room featuring a large shower cubicle with both rainfall and handheld showerheads. A spiral staircase from the living area leads up to an open mezzanine floor that features a king-size bedroom with limited headroom on one side. The space
Seafarer Studio is a recently rennovated self contained space on the lower ground floor of our 18th century family house in the heart of Branscombe village.

It is a unique and very rural location and great for those with an adventurous spirit who just want to relax and unplug from the noise of modern living a bit.

The studio has its own entrances with front and french doors and has a lovely outside decking area with table and chairs for eating al fresco and enjoying some outside space. The studio is accessed via a gated hill driveway just over the little stream which leads to the main house. Seafarer studio has one allocated parking space at the top right side of the drive next to the Seafarer entrance gate.

The beach is 500 yards away (10 mins walk) through flat water meadows accessed from the foot of the driveway. Seafarer is in an exceptional location and is the perfect spot for guests to unwind and enjoy the timeless magic of the village. Guests are on the doorstep of a host of spectacular coastal walks, the stunning beach and the cosy 14th Century Masons Arms pub is around the corner.

The Seafarer Studio is a simple but comfortable little living space with the following:

An open plan bedroom and living area with a comfy double bed with cosy mattress topper, wardrobe, plenty of storage space, well equipped kitchenette with a microwave, 2 ring electric hotplate, toaster, kettle, Nespresso Krups coffee machine and fridge freezer at your disposal.

A lovely daybed/sofa with an abundance of comfy cushions will help you relax in the evenings whilst watching TV or playing the board games we have at your disposal.

Modern bathroom with shower. Fluffy towels and crispy bedlinen provided.

Your living space has french doors which open up onto a lovely decked area surrounded with plants which makes it a lovely little oasis for our guests.

We have two wonderful village pubs; The award winning Masons Arms, around the corner which serves delicious high end food and drink and The Fountain Head pub (one of the oldest pubs in the UK at over 500 years old) which serves delicious locally sourced produce and traditional ales which is an easy 20 minute walk through the village.

Please let us know if you would like us to pre book you a table at either pub for your first night.

After a gentle morning listening to the waves crashing and birdsong from your bed, take a stroll to the beach for a dip in the crystal clear water or a hike up the hills and a lazy meander back through the water meadows. Then head to one of the pubs for a delicious evening meal and some real ale before strolling home under the stars.

Star gazing is a must as there is absolutely no light pollution in Branscombe. You may even spot some glow worms if you are lucky.

Guest access
Guests will be able to access the Seafarer studio via the hill drive (over a small cattle grid which runs over the stream) to the main house. The main entrance is gated.

There is one parking space allocated for Seafarer guests at the top right of the shared driveway. Your hosts will have use of the garage and second driveway space.

Guests have their own front door entrance to Seafarer, which has an open plan bedroom (with comfy double bed) and living area with separate bathroom (and shower) with french doors leading to a private enclosed decking area.

Guests are welcome to share our front 'orchard' garden and help yourselves to apples.

Your hosts will be in residence in the main house (with separate front door and entrance) so will be around should you need anything, otherwise we shall leave you to enjoy the tranquility that Branscombe has to offer.

Other things to note
Please read before booking:

There are a few small steps leading to the Seafarer studio which are not great for those with mobility issues and small children.

Seafarer and the main house were built in the early 1800s so the house is very old and has its' own unique quirks. Added to which the gorgeous but very rural location is not for the faint hearted - the roads leading in/out of Branscombe are steep.

Seafarer Studio is insulated and cosy but there is no plumbed in heating. The electric heater warms the space up nicely on chilly evenings and there are hot water bottles and extra cosy blankets if required.

Hot water is on a good sized timed electric water tank which has an easy access booster button in the kitchenette when more hot water is required.

The walk to the beach is less than 10 minutes, or you can drive to the car park in about a minute. You are charged on exit.

Rental rate includes bedlinen, tea towels, bathmat, hand and bath towels. Beach towels are not included.

Sadly we are unable to welcome dogs and small children due to the size and set up of the studio.

Your hosts have a cocker spaniel - Barney and a very lazy cat -Socks. The chances are Socks will make an appearance to say hello.

Master bedroom has a kingsize bed, with two standard (aka adult size) single beds in the second bedroom. We’ve hosted over 500 families and understand that tastes differ, therefore different pillow varieties are always available on site.

Access to the communal hallway and stairs. Private gated parking area. Parking is at a premium in East Devon both in terms of cost and provision. The space is tight but fits our X5 or Discovery.

Access: Swallow is the second chalet along the track, around 200meters from the car park. We suggest packing lightly with rucksacks or a beach trolly to transfer your luggage accross to Swallow from the car park. The Sea Shanty are able to offer a luggage buggy service for £25 which is available any day before 4pm (more details provided in arrival instructions).

Guests can explore the Jurassic Coast whilst enjoying stunning walks in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and The South West Coast Path. The Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy and Pecorama are all nearby for fun filled days with the kids. There are a wide range of activities nearby, from Paddleboarding and water skiing to Golf at Sidmouth Golf Club. Sidmouth and the nearby local towns have a wealth of independent boutique shops, cafes and restaurants, including Otterton Mill and Lympstone Manor. There are two pubs within walking distance, The Fountain Head and The Masons Arms, along with the Sea Shanty shop and cafe on Branscombe Beach.

**Please note** There is no longer vehicular access on the lane in front of the chalets. Luggage must be carried from the car park. There are also intermittent ongoing repairs to the middle and end section of the lane including some of the closed chalets. Please note that Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays have no control over these maintenance repairs.**
