The Chessie Room B and B is located in the old train station in downtown Huntington. It occupies the entire second floor of the old Huntington Bank Building purportedly robbed by the Jessie James gang in 1874. The decor is a nod to Huntington's railroad heritage and feels like home but does not lack any modern convenience. It is within walking distances of many of Huntington's finest restaurants and night spots.

The space
Take a step back in time when you enter one of the original country homesteads in the Clendenin, West Virginia area. The 1887 Farm House sits on hand cut stones and was constructed with rough cut lumber from the surrounding hills. Sleeps up to 5 guests with two bedrooms (one queen, one full, one twin bed), full bathroom, and living room.

The dining room sits to the back of the house and has games, puzzles, a coffee maker, microwave, sink, toaster, and mini fridge. WIFI is available too. There is no TV which provides a welcome break for many families.

Comfortable beds, beautiful views, quiet country evenings for a peaceful night’s rest-frogs chirping, bats flying, stars, fireflies (in summer). Relax on the porch swing as chickens, ducks, and turkeys wonder the property.

Guests are welcome to take a hike up in the woods, fish in the spring fed pond up the hill (please bring own gear-catch and release), play in the creek that winds in front and back of the property, walk the grounds, inspect the 1940’s outhouse, see the old Post Office, and explore the century old dairy cow barn. We are happy to build a camp fire upon request and have scours for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows you can use.

Guests can also take a short walk up the road and visit the cave-home to the earliest settler Gabriel. This is a perfect place for families and friends to visit, explore local restaurants, and take in all that the Elk River Trail State Park has to offer-swimming, kayaking, biking, hiking, and ATV trails.

A 6th guest can be added with a roll away bed for an extra $20/night.

Guest access
Guest's have access to two separate bedrooms, a living space and a full bathroom. The space also includes a microwave, and kitchen sink, toaster, coffee maker, plus, mini fridge. We have an outdoor oven guests can use that has a stove top, a propane grill. a small charcoal grill and a fire pit-just ask about what you need and we will get you all set up. Guests are welcome to walk the grounds of the property where they will find an old town post office, a 1940's era out house (fully functioning), a historic barn with some friendly chickens and ducks and two fields awaiting strawberries in May. Guests are also welcome to take a short walk up the road and visit the cave.

The Civil War – When Virginia seceded from the Union, Harpers Ferry was occupied by Virginia State militia troops under the command of Colonel Thomas (later “Stonewall”) Jackson. When Virginia joined the Confederacy, the Confederate Army under General Joseph Johnston took over (Jackson stayed on and trained what became known as the “Stonewall” Brigade on Bolivar Heights just west of town). Eventually, Johnston decided (not unwisely, as things turned out) that the town was indefensible, and withdrew the Confederates to a point further south, after which Harpers Ferry became an important Union Army base for most of the war. During the war several battles were fought in and around our town, most notably in September 1862, when Jackson captured his old post for the Confederacy as part of the Antietam Campaign.

*Property is located on the other side of a small creek. All guests’ vehicles must be able to cross a small bridge to access. Standard sized vehicles such as sedans, SUVs, vans, and pick up trucks are fine. Even some box trucks are no issue. But please no heavy or oversized construction equipment, larger than normal utility work vehicles, or long haulers. If you’re unsure if your vehicle fits this description, please message host for confirmation. We will quickly reply and let you know!

We picked the perfect location for exploring New River Gorge! We actually live here and LOVE it. Over the last 2 years, we completely rebuilt this Little Guest House from the ground up while exploring and putting together the local's ultimate guidebook of the area. Our goal was to make a cozy and cute cottage to highlight why we love WV so much. We strive for eco-friendly practices because we want to see this place clean and thriving for our kids and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

The space
We let nature inspire every detail of building this Guest House. Genuine pine and soft colors make it a truly cozy retreat. It has a simple but convenient layout with privacy in mind for both main and guest house spaces. The small kitchen is well-equipped for making your own coffee/meals with the option of enjoying them indoors under the giant windows or outside on the private back patio. Both spaces overlook a small meadow-like yard. All the windows face the sunrise for a beautiful bright start, but you can employ the black out shades to sleep in. As a Guest House, we both share a horse-shoe shaped driveway with a parking area. Two quick blocks away, there is a diner, ice-cream shop, pharmacy, bakery, and laundry mat situated in one intersection for your convenience.

The whole place is yours! However, the "yard" out front is actually the neighbor's property, so please refrain from walking pets over there. You are welcome to bring them to the large cut out of grass near the driveway when you enter our property.

It is a 10 minutes walk to historic sites, National Park and the Appalachian Trails. Built in 1907, the house has the highest point in the city of Harpers Ferry. It took 7 years of design, renovation and furnishing with detail custom works to include a multi-tier garden.

Each bedroom has its own climate control, luxurious bathroom, crown moldings and upscale furnishings with original artwork. All rooms have high ceiling, large windows overlooking garden, courtyards or Mountain View.

The GARDEN:
The property includes an expansive landscaped garden featuring terraces of multi-tier lawns, a Koi pond, several courtyards with seating and custom stone work. Large boulders and rocks were brought in to incorporate into the design of the garden. Tall and dense Japanese evergreens with soft needles (Cryptomerias) create privacy all year round. There are several varieties of deciduous and evergreen magnolia trees. Note that there are Seven Magnolia trees at the front of the property. Rows of white flowering dogwood trees line up along the driveway to lead you to the house. Two huge Dawn Redwood trees with branches expanding over 20 feet provide shade. The wisterias drape over the fences. There are apple tree and fig tree espaliers and no shortage of rose bushes - over 100 including climbing roses. Tall columnar hornbeam trees create partitions in the garden. Daylilies, irises, rows of butterfly bushes and varieties of climbing clematis and honeysuckle fill in the gaps and bloom consecutively. Bountiful St. John wart forming clumps of green fans are in place as ground covers. Blue Stars grow between rocks and natural stone pavers. Various thymes serve as another ground cover and also hang over rocks. Lavender bushes send out aroma in early summer. Several Brugmansia Angel Trumpet yield trumpet flowers with aroma to take over and fill the air of the late summer night.

The INTERIOR:
A lot of well thought-out and detailed work have been incorporated into the design of the interiors. Custom tilings pave the foyer and kitchen, original tin ceilings provide canopies to each room in the main floor. All the hardwood floor through out the house have been sanded and artistically layered with paints and hand drawn artwork. The lights from unique chandeliers in every single room give the shine to your enjoyable visit.

Each bedroom has custom layering painted doors with artistic knobs and hinges to welcome you into your comfortable room well furnished with antique and vintage functional pieces which fit together, select lamps and unique chandelier with dimmer for your romantic ambience. A custom stained glass art piece above the door provides lighting to your door entrance.
All beds have layers of multiple sheets and light blankets and fluffy pillows. Bathrooms in suites are tiled from floor to ceiling. Each bathroom has its own design of tiles, mirror, light fixture, vanity and hardwares.

Guests have full access to the lavish tiered garden, multiple courtyards, patio, and wrap-around porch. Enjoy multiple outoor seating areas in the garden, patio, and porch.

This is the top floor of the inn and is very spacious. This is where the inn keeper, his family, and staff would stay. They also used it for guests as well when the inn was particularly busy. Today it has a small modern kitchen, large living area, queen size bed and private bath. Suite 3 is at the top of the house.The original historic staircase leads up to this spacious suite with expansive views, window seats and original flooring.
