Guests should have access to the vacation rental app prior to check-in. We will send all check-in information, directions, and key codes through the VRBO app.
Located on the east side of Flagstaff this cabin is within the city limits yet has the rustic charm of a woodsy cabin. (Please note; the cabin is in a suburban neighborhood, it is not a 'rural cabin-in-the-woods') Convenient to Highway 89 and Interstate 40. Walk out the front door to enjoy the Flagstaff Urban Trails hiking trails of Mount Elden, the Arizona Trail and Picture Canyon Trail. A great jumping-off point for your trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Walnut Canyon and all that Northern Arizona has to offer!
The space:
This is a small guest house on our property, our house is the green house you may see in some of the background of some of the pictures.
We will send directions to the cabin the day before your check in and will send a keycode for the front door shortly before your check-in time. We will write you through VRBO/HomeAway messaging. If you will not have access to VRBO/HomeAway please write us well in advance to make other arrangements . Dawn and I both work so we may not see you during your stay but we are always available via text or telephone to answer any questions or promptly address any issues.
We have this listed for up to 4 people but it would be very tight accommodations for more than two or three adults. This is a small one-bedroom cabin. There is a daybed with trundle in the kitchen / living area and a queen sized bed in the bedroom (see pictures).
Please note, there is no smoking allowed in the house but there has been smoking in the past; there are no pets allowed in the house but there have been pets in the house in the past.
We are in the 'Smokerise' neighborhood of East Flagstaff. We are just off of Highway 89 And close to the Interstate 40 Country Club exit .
The house is in a residential, suburban neighborhood within the city limits of Flagstaff, but it is set back, off the road, with views of Mount Elden. While the cabin is small-ish, it has a nice covered porch which adds additional 3 season living space.
There is a small stacked washer dryer set. It is adequate for light loads of approximately 10 lb, if you have heavy items please use the laundromat at the park Santa Fe Shopping Center.
There is wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in the cabin, the Internet service we provide is the only Internet available in our neighborhood, it is subject to outages outside of our control . Cable television is available through an online streaming service on a Roku streaming device. You can login to your personal streaming accounts on the Roku, there is also an auxiliary HDMI port if you want to connect your streaming device. We also get five or six broadcast channels over the antenna.
We can often accommodate same-day bookings, but check-in may be as late as 5pm in these cases due to housekeeping scheduling. Regardless of the website settings please email us prior to making a "same-day" booking, we are not always able to accommodate . Drop a note with any questions.
We are approximately 2 miles away from Flagstaff Mall, Safeway/Starbucks, Harkins Theaters, and other shopping. We are approximately 15 minutes down Route 66 from downtown Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University.
We are approximately an hour and 15 minutes down Highway 89 from the Desert View Visitor Center at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I personally prefer entering the Park from this entrance because the flow of traffic is generally lighter when starting from the East entrance. We are approximately 2 hours from Antelope Canyon. This cabin is also an excellent jumping-off point if you're going to make the trip to the north rim of the canyon.
Some notes on the Winter / Fall Seasons:
In the pictures of the cabin you will see white wall heaters in the living room and bedroom. These heaters are very efficient at keeping the cabin very warm and comfortable, but they do not adjust with a standard thermostat. They have a level control behind the access door, they're very easy to adjust but might not be what you are used to at home.
Fall is a great time to visit Flagstaff. The restaurants and attractions aren't as packed as they can be during the summer and winter. The weather is beautiful. It is a perfect time to hike and enjoy the Fall colors.
Flagstaff is known to get rather heavy snow storms during the winter. We are on the schedule of a snow removal service but this occurs according to their workload, and when the snow is heavy, removal might not happen in a convenient time frame... In other words you could get snowed in or out. The driveway will get plowed but guests need to shovel out their own vehicle, we do not have a service to shovel out cars, but we do provide a sturdy snow shovel.
The fireplace you see in the pictures is not operable, the chimney is blocked off and insulated no fires are permitted in the fireplace.
We are apx 12 miles from the parking/shuttle at the Arizona Snowbowl & apx 22 miles from Arizona Nordic Village. There are great Snowshoeing and Snow Play opportunities within a short walk from the cabin. The covered porch is a great place to keep your skis & snow-play gear.

Our family calls this The Shepherd's Cabin, it is located between Mount Elden and Sheep Hill on the east side of Flagstaff. What we have been able to find by word of mouth is that this cabin was built in the Late 1800's / early 1900's as a temporary residence for Shepherds who were tending flocks in the area; at the time this was far removed from the town of Flagstaff. It has been nicely updated but still features the rustic charm of a well-built fieldstone cabin. Our friends and family have enjoyed staying here through the years and we are thrilled to offer it to those looking for unique and historic lodging through VRBO / HomeAway. Please check out all the pictures, read the description and don't hesitate to write with any questions!
Thank you Ed and Dawn
- "We thought this was the best place for us to have booked. The property had everything we needed from outdoor seating to a gas grill. As a side note, I found out from others who were in the tournament that they did not have AC at their lodging. This being summer and with the heat advisory AC was a requirement. This property had that covered. I had a brief interaction with the owner and he could not have been more helpful. I highly recommend this property for two people."

We had 2 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs and still felt we all had our own areas to relax. The dogs enjoyed running the big property and we loved that we were only 10mins from town and the kids loved the stocked games in the playroom. The driveway was snowy/dirt so be prepared for that but both our sedans did fine getting to the home. Had a great weekend away from the city and played in the snow, would definitely come back! :)"

2 Day minimum Required. Holidays may require longer - Please review calendar for availability - it is up to date. As you can see from my guest comments, our place is everything we say it is....truly a great cabin in the woods experience. This is not a full time VRBO with the bare minimum like most listings today. This home has all the items you need and have at home.
Come and enjoy a true rustic mountain cabin on over 1.5 acres of land.
Completely remodeled cabin includes scraped hard wood flooring, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, hickory cabinets, tiled showers, two large 'trex' decks - front deck is covered and is 12' x 30' and rear deck is open and is 10' x 33'.
Cabin is fully covered in stained tongue and groove and includes a spectacular stone wood burning fireplace complete with gas line to get it started. Enjoy the relaxing hammock out front and watch the birds and other animals.
During the summer, enjoy the heard of elk that routinely travel through the back yard. Sit on the back deck and enjoy tremendous long range views through the trees - at night, tilt your head back and enjoy the brightest stars you will ever see. Like most cabins in Flagstaff, my place does not have air conditioning, however high temperatures in the summer rarely reach above the mid 80's and we get a tremendous breeze through our home due to the locations of windows and screen doors.
Cabin is located 6 miles south of Flagstaff in Kachina Village - just far enough from the city to be in the wilderness but close enough to enjoy a restaurant, movie, bowling, swimming, ice skating, etc....
Cabin is 30 minutes from Snowbowl and about 1.5 hours from the Grand Canyon and 20 minutes from Sunset Crater. Cabin is complete with a full list of activities and brochures of fun things to do.
I can promise you, you will not find a nicer more cozy and complete cabin in the Flagstaff area.

We were hoping to see the meteor shower on Friday night, but the clouds cover was too thick. Great place to celebrate my sons 20th birthday. We made homemade pizza 🍕 and cookies 🍪 for dessert. Getting Around:
The best way to explore Flagstaff and the surrounding Northern Arizona attractions is by car. While Flagstaff does have public transit and ride-share options, many of the area’s highlights—such as the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Snowbowl, Walnut Canyon, and countless hiking trails—are easiest to reach when you have your own vehicle. A car allows you to enjoy the flexibility of mountain drives, day trips, and exploring at your own pace. Streets are easy to navigate, and most destinations offer convenient parking. We do recommend a car with 4WD/AWD during extreme winter conditions.
Other Things to Note:
✅ This property has special local compliance requirements which include a signed rental agreement, ID verification, and a security hold of $1000 (which is not a traditional security deposit, just a pending transaction). As an optional alternative to the security hold, you may opt in to purchase a non-refundable damage waiver provided by a third-party insurance company. The optional damage waiver is $50 for stays up to 10 nights, with an additional $2 per day for stays longer than 10 nights. Damage waiver purchases are optional.
To make this process easy for you, we use a secure and very simple, app-free platform called Happy Guest. It is not an app, and you do not have to sign up for an account - it’s a safe and secure website. It also gives you a guest portal with all the info about the home and all of my favorite local spots.
Your guest portal includes advertisements with third-party upgrades that you may want to enhance your stay. These upgrades are optional and include:
Early Check-in - $25/hr
Pet Policy: We welcome well-behaved pets! A $75 per pet, per stay fee applies. Please clean up after your pet and keep them off furniture.
Early check-in is subject to availability at the sole discretion of the host.
Early check-in availability is determined on the day of arrival.
Late Check-Out Policy
We kindly ask all guests to adhere to our check-out time as we are unable to accommodate late check-outs. This allows us sufficient time to prepare the property for the next guests and maintain our high standards of cleanliness and readiness. Guests who stay beyond our standard check-out time of 10:00 AM will incur a fee of $50 per hour. This charge helps offset the disruption to our cleaning schedule, ensuring the property is ready and welcoming for incoming guests.
Snow & Winter Weather Policy
Flagstaff experiences significant winter weather, and we want to ensure our guests are well-prepared for snow-related conditions. Please read this policy carefully, as it outlines what is covered and what is not regarding cancellations, travel disruptions, and snow management during your stay.
What IS Covered (Eligible for Refunds/Rescheduling)
The following events qualify for cancellation or rescheduling outside of our standard cancellation policy:
1. Government-Mandated Travel Restrictions
✅ If a government agency issues a mandatory road closure or evacuation order that prevents access to the property.
✅ This must be an official order, not just a recommendation or travel advisory.
2. Large-Scale Utility Outages
✅ If a prolonged power, water, or heating outage occurs due to winter storms, impacting the majority of homes in the area.
✅ Minor disruptions or short-term outages that are common during storms do not qualify.
If one of these covered events occurs, guests may be eligible for a refund, rescheduling, or a credit for a future stay, at our discretion.
What is NOT Covered (Standard Cancellation Policy Applies)
The following situations are not covered by this policy, meaning refunds or rescheduling will not be granted unless they fall under our normal cancellation policy:
1. Personal Travel Issues Due to Weather
❌ If snow or ice makes it difficult for you to drive but roads remain open.
❌ Flight delays, cancellations, or rental car unavailability due to weather.
❌ Choosing not to travel because of a snowstorm or potential bad weather.
2. Lack of Proper Vehicle Equipment
❌ Guests are responsible for ensuring they have a 4WD/AWD vehicle and snow chains (when required).
❌ If you are unable to reach the property due to inadequate vehicle preparation, this will not be grounds for a refund.
3. Local Snow Accumulation or Plowing Delays
❌ Our team will ensure the driveway and main pathways are cleared before check-in. However, additional snowfall during your stay is not a covered event.
❌ Plowing schedules are subject to weather conditions, and delays in plowing are not eligible for refunds.
Guest Responsibilities
Travel with a 4WD/AWD vehicle and carry snow chains if required.
Check weather and road conditions before departing for your trip.
Be prepared to shovel walkways or vehicles if snow falls during your stay (shovels are provided).
Contact us if you experience any issues so we can assist with local resources.
Final Notes
Landscaping, trash pickup, and spa maintenance (if applicable) may take place during your stay. These routine services help keep the property in top condition and should not cause any disruption.
By booking, guests acknowledge and accept this Snow & Winter Weather Policy and understand that refunds outside of our cancellation policy are at the host's discretion.
If you have any questions or concerns before or during your stay, please reach out.

- "We had high expectations for our stay at Mountain Star. The property met all of our expectations and exceeded many of them. The house was clean, roomy, and well laid out. The views were exceptional. The amenities (supplies, appliances, hot tub, children’s entertainment, bed comfort) were all top of the line. The property managers went out of their way to make the stay exceptional. We have stayed at dozens of VRBO properties and there are always a few (or more) flaws that a reasonable person just overlooks. Not the case here. This is a true 5-star property."

- "The description of this property is misleading. It’s not tucked away in the pines, it’s about 50 yards from a busy highway. That being said, the cabin is great! Lots of room and fully stocked so you can cook. Unfortunately, the barbecue is not usable. It’s so rusted out, we couldn’t get it to light. Ice maker in freezer had about 4” of frozen water in it, put quite the damper on the whiskey drinkers, until we went and got ice. The manager was not good at responding to text through VRBO, however, when I would call she would answer and tell me she managed so many properties it could get confusing. We will be looking for a different cabin for our next stay in Flaggstaff."

Located on the east side of Flagstaff this cabin is within the city limits, all the conveniences of home, yet has the rustic charm of a woodsy cabin. Walk out the front door to enjoy the hiking trails of Mount Elden, the Arizona Trail and Picture Canyon Trail. A great jumping-off point for your trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Antelope Canyon, Wupatki National Monument, Walnut Canyon and all that Northern Arizona has to offer!
The space
We have this listed for up to 4 people but it would be very tight accommodations for more than two or three adults. This is a small one-bedroom cabin. There is a daybed w/trundle in the living area and a comfortable queen in the bedroom
Please note, there is no smoking allowed in the house but there has been smoking in the past; there are no pets allowed in the house but there have been pets in the house in the past. This guesthouse, located on the property of our primary residence, is often used by family members who have severe respiratory issues; for this reason absolutely no animals or smoking are permitted in the cabin.
The house is in a residential neighborhood close to Highway 89, but it is set back, off the road, with views of Mount Elden and Sheep Hill. While the cabin is small-ish, it has a nice covered porch which adds additional three-season living space.
There is a small stacked washer dryer set. It is adequate for light loads of approximately 10 lb, if you have heavy items please use the laundromat at the park Santa Fe Shopping Center.
There is Wi-Fi (wireless) internet in the cabin, while we subscribe to the best service available to our location; in the town of Flagstaff internet outages can occur without notice , it is possible that internet may not be available at times. Speed and availability of Internet service is not guaranteed. You can login to your personal streaming accounts on the Roku, there is also an auxiliary HDMI port if you want to connect your streaming device. We also get five or six broadcast channels over the antenna.
I would say most houses in Flagstaff do not have air conditioning, but we do get some warm afternoons.....For this reason, we install a small window air conditioner in the cabin during the summer months. This will keep the bedroom comfortable on those days when it gets a little hot.
In a couple of the photos you may see a wood daybed and a gas stove in the background. As a result of great guest input we have opted to swap these items out. The wood daybed has been replaced with a new daybed and the gas stove has been removed in favor of an electric stove.
The fireplace you see in the pictures is not operable, the chimney is blocked off and insulated; no fires are permitted in the fireplace.
Guest access
There are two wood fence rails with red reflectors mounted to them by the entrance to the cabin please park here. It is important to never block other residents access to their homes for even a moment.
Other things to note
Our family calls this The Shepherd's Cabin, it is located between Mount Elden and Sheep Hill on the east side of Flagstaff. What we have been able to find by word of mouth is that this cabin was built in the late 1800s as a temporary residence for Shepherds who were tending flocks in the area; at the time this was far removed from the town of Flagstaff. It has been nicely updated but still features the rustic charm of a well-built fieldstone cabin. Our friends and family have enjoyed staying here through the years and we are thrilled to offer it to those looking for unique and historic lodging through Airbnb. Please check out all the pictures, read the description and don't hesitate to write with any questions!
Thank you Ed and Dawn

I understand that the use of our accommodations and trails involves inherent risks, including, but not limited to:
Wilderness Travel: Unpredictable road and trail conditions, and travel in mountainous terrain with obstacles that may not be visible.
Altitude Considerations: The cabins/yurts are located at an elevation of about 8,000 feet. This elevation can lead to altitude sickness and other health complications, such as high-altitude pulmonary or cerebral edema. Guests with existing health conditions, particularly heart or respiratory issues, should consult a healthcare provider before visiting.
Outdoor Activities: Risks associated with hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, and other activities in a wilderness environment.
Physical Strain: The physical demand of hiking or traveling at high elevation can cause exhaustion, dehydration, muscle strains, or cardiovascular stress, particularly for those not accustomed to strenuous activities.
Dehydration or Heat Exhaustion: The need to drink enough water at higher altitudes to prevent dehydration and/or heat exhaustion, particularly if engaging in physical activity like hiking or biking.
Limited Services: Use of remote cabins/yurts with no communication systems or running water. Our off-grid facility depends on solar power and other limited resources, which may not reliably support medical devices (such as C-PAP machines). Guests with medical equipment should bring their own reliable power sources or consider staying at another facility.
Limited Medical Facilities: Risk of delayed access to emergency medical care or a lack of facilities for immediate treatment if an injury occurs.
Inexperience or Lack of Preparedness: The risks associated with visitors who may not have sufficient knowledge, skills, or equipment for wilderness travel or staying in off-grid accommodations.
Lack of Facilities for Special Needs: The risk of inadequate facilities or accommodations for people with mobility issues or other special needs due to the remote and rustic nature of the venue.
Changing Weather: Rapidly changing weather conditions, potentially extreme temperature changes, and storms in mountainous terrain.

The cutest little rustic A-frame log cabin ever!
Dog friendly with pre-approval.
Our home is located in the eclectic, country neighborhood of Mountainare, 8 south of Flagstaff/skiing. So you get the feel of a small, mountain community, but still are only a 10 minute drive to Flagstaff and NAU area.
This is our home! We lived here for years, and still stay frequently. We manage and maintain this property personally, so you are not renting from some property management company, but our family!
The space
Our amazing little cabin is warm and cozy. Our cabin is over 60 years old, it is greatly cared for, and does show rustic patina in areas. It was the first house built on the street even before USPS delivered the mail in this area.
We have comfortable furniture including a new comfortable bed and mattress, and a nice styling sofa. We have a full kitchen. There is a HUGE, beautiful deck adjoining the bedroom. Our yard is a basic Mountainaire yard that is dog friendly, up to 2 under 30 lbs, after pet fee.
We can get snow, and lots if it at 7,000 ft, from November into April. We are close to hiking, monuments, snowplay and skiing. We have a brand new central heating system. Our back patio cushions are put away between October and late April due to moisture and freezing overnight conditions.
Guest access
You have full access to our little cabin but there is a tiny storage loft area that has no access. This loft is not in any pictures or mentioned in the description of our listing. It is off limits to guests.
There is also a storage shed on property with no access to guests.
Other things to note
$35 non-refundable pet fee for dogs (under 30 lbs no more than 2).
Please bring your own dog bed, crate, leashes (the cabin has limited storage space). This does not include extra cleaning up after your dog. we do provide dog poo bags.
Our cabin is in Northern Airizona which is mountainous and can get winter storms of varying degrees at anytime between Novemember and April.
Our roads are paved in the neighborhood. Roads in the Northern part of the state are hilly and steep due to mountainous terrain. I do recommend 4-wheel or all-wheel drive during active winter storms, but transportation methods are totally up to guests.
There is a small loft for storage that has no access ladder
There is no A/C because we are high elevation and temps overnight in the Summer average in the high 50's to low 60's.
Back left burner on the gas stove does not work but the other 3 burners do.
We are not responsible for wildlife that may come into our yard. This includes any critters including, spiders, field mice, javelin, raccoons, deer, or skunks, etc. we are one block away from National Forest and this is part of living in N. Arizona. If any animals are "hanging out", let us know, we have to call Arizona Game and Fish to legally handle wildlife issues as most are protected under the laws of the National Forest.
We have a smart TV that you can enter your own Netflix, Hulu, etc on.
Just press the TV icon on the remote for local channels. We do not have cable.
Check-in is 4pm, check-out 11 am. We cannot accommodate early or later than times.
We are required to supply one roll of toilet paper, one towel each person, shampoo and body soap per Airbnb guidelines. We provide more than that, but just setting expectations.

While we currently have a no pet policy for our guests, we are dog owners ourselves. The space is professionally cleaned after we visit and we take great care to reduce any sign of their stay.
While you may get lucky and find some firewood left behind from a guest's stay, we do recommend grabbing firewood and starters from a local gas station or grocer. The smaller the logs, the better!
