Surprisingly, no mosquitoes or pesky bugs. Hot tub was clean and nice, and the outdoor shower was refreshing with the cool well water. We left well refreshed! (We did take a camping stove so we could cook meals outside instead of having to leave the property to go to a restaurant.)"

Come out to the quiet and tranquil country like setting on the Llano River. Escape the busy race for a bit and come see nature at its best! Sit back and relax while gazing and listening to the crystal clear water trickling over the granite rock outcroppings. Enjoy modern conveniences in the remodeled river cabin with the exception of a traditional indoor stove (see kitchen details for other cooking equipment). The comfy Living room is equipped with a smart TV and there is a gaming console/tv in the guest bedroom. Families are welcome with lots of room to roam for children of all ages. There is plenty of gradual sloping land between the cabin and river for play. The cabin is safely located approximately 150 yards from the waters edge out of any flood plains. Come out and enjoy outdoor cooking, grilling or smoking while taking in the distant views from the huge deck. There is a small fire pit with Mesquite wood provided for some s’more roasting! Three kayaks are available for use if you decide to venture down the incredible Llano River and take in the Hill Country(bring along life jackets). The river is approximately 200’ wide at the property offering 2 rapid locations directly in front of the property. One rapid is close to the bank with easy bank access and the other is out towards the middle of the river. The water depth varies from gravely shallows close to the bank to deeper type holes out towards the middle. Several trees shade the bank for your favorite lawn chair and one tree even shades the water next to the small rapids gravely and sand area. Wildlife is abundant in the area with a possibility of seeing a beaver that lives in the area. The fishing is great in this area with catfish and bass. The property has plenty to offer if you love the outdoors and is quite comfortable to rest up and catch some peaceful sleep.

- "I can genuinely say we had an incredible time. The vibe is total tranquility. From the comfortable accommodations to the large chime in the patio area and the far away squeak of the windmill. Andi is a fantastic communicator. She reaffirmed throughout the process that the creek bed would be dry; our expectations were completely set before traveling out to the property. The absence of water in no way diminished our experience. Andi offered us an early check in and late check out, informed us about spotty cell service and no Wi-Fi; this was not an issue for us as we were looking to unplug. Wildlife! We saw buck, longhorn, porcupine, lizards, toads and turtles. The pinnacle of my experience was birding: Great Blue Heron, Painted Bunting, Blue-gray Gnat Catcher and Summer Tanager! If you're a birder, this property is a real treat (the place is lousy with Tanager and Bunting)! Our dogs were with us, we went on several walks around the grounds. I would recommend that unless your dog is your shadow or has excellent recall, you should consider keeping them leashed. The golf cart was such a wonderful addition, we took it out each day checking out the different flora and fauna. The kitchen is fully stocked and the propane grill was great for our dinners. There are binoculars in the kitchen which I used for ogling birds, there is ample outdoor seating and the house is even stocked with some games! When we left we kept saying what an amazing time we had. Highly recommend."

We are located across the street from the Castell General Store so make sure you drop into and get yourself a cold beer and 3/4 lb burger (Best Burger in Texas, promise!). They jokingly call it "Luckenbach by the Llano River" according to an article written by Texas Monthly...so come for a few days or longer and really decompress, relax and breathe in the beautiful Texas Hill Country air or watch shooting stars streak across the sky.

With this booking, you will have access to the entire 3-acre property on the Llano River which includes our beautiful Llano River waterfront - and the privacy therein.

The main 2 cabins, which we call "Main House", are about 75 feet from the riverfront and are connected by a large breezeway deck with each cabin a total of 952 sq. ft. each. These are Cabins C & D.

We also have 2 individual cabins offset out front (closer to the road) that are also completely self-sufficient at 427 sq. ft. each. These are Cabins A & B.

We had one minor water issue (one of the sprinkler pipes was leaking on arrival) and the hosts quickly responded and fixed the problem without disturbing our stay at all. In short, our whole group very much enjoyed our stay and can't wait to book the cabins again next year!"

Bedroom 1 includes 2 Twin XL beds with a private full bathroom. Two beds can be pushed together if requested.

There is a loft area (low ceilings) with 2 Twin XL beds which is suitable for older kids.

The Castell Cabin is a river front property on the Llano River located in the German community of Castell with access to some of the finest fishing there is on the Llano River. Whether you want to fly fish, canoe, kayak, swim in the river, explore the Hill Country, or just relax, the Castell Cabin will fit your lodging needs. The cabin sits on one acre of Llano River frontage and is very secluded with a large deck offering a spectacular view. The river in front of the cabin has large rocks to relax on and flowing rapids for kids to play in. With capacity to sleep up to 10, the cabin is the perfect get away for one or two families.
Note that there is NO charge for children under 18 staying with a family member. When booking, only enter the number of adults staying at the cabin.

1) How many bedrooms are in the cabin?
The cabin layout consist of a combined open kitchen and living area in the front half, a single bathroom with shower, and 3 separate bedrooms in the back half. There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds in each and a bunkroom with 3 twin size bunkbeds to put all the kids. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa in the main room.

2) How many people can the cabin accommodate?
The cabin can comfortably accommodate 4 adults plus 6 kids. There are two bedrooms for adults and a bunkroom for kids.
The bunkroom has 3 bunkbeds but is not recommended for adults due to the limited space in the room. There is also a sleeper sofa.

3) What is the Llano River view like from the cabin?
The Llano River is located about 200' directly in front of the cabin. The river is visible through the trees and the view varies based on the amount of foliage. Note that the cabin does not directly overlook the river but sits back far enough to stay out of the floodplain. The one acre where the cabin is located is direct river frontage.
The cabin sits on stilts 8' feet above the ground which offers a great view of the area from the deck - perfect for watching birds and wildlife.

4) How secluded is the cabin?
Although there are houses in the area, the brush and trees around the cabin make it very secluded. The closest house to the cabin is behind it about 100 yards and hardly visible. If you are wanting peace and quiet, you will not be disappointed.

At the end of the trail to the river is a large granite rock to use for setting up lawn chairs, icechest, etc. In front of the rock is a perfect area for the kids (and adults) to swim. The water depth ranges from 1-4' with some fun rapids to bounce down.

9) What is the current water flow of the Llano River?
Check the USGS government site for the Llano river flow at Llano for real-time CFS (cubic feet per second). A good flow is between 60-150 CFS.

10) Where in Castell is the cabin located?
The cabin is approximately 300 yards East of the post office and sits back 200 yards back from highway 152 towards the river.

11) Does the cabin have a TV or Internet?
There is not a TV but there is wireless Internet service. There is a big screen TV in the Castell Store for watching football/basketball.

12) Is there cell phone service?
There is good service for ATT. For Verizon the service is pretty spotty. Not sure about other carriers.

13) Does the cabin have river frontage?
Yes, the cabin has one acre of Llano River frontage.

14) What is in Castell?
The town of Castell has a General Store and a post office. The General Store has water, ice, beer, and fishing supplies.
On Thursday through Saturday, the store has hamburgers and BBQ. The Castell Store has a Facebook page where upcoming events are posted.

15) What are the closest towns?
Castell is halfway between Llano and Mason which is about an 18 mile drive to each. These are the closest towns where groceries or gas can be purchased.

16) Does the cabin have air conditioning?
The cabin has window A/C units in each bedroom and a unit in the main living area. During the 100+ days in the summer, these units will keep the cabin comfortable, but don't expect
it to be cold inside. There are also ceiling fans in the bedrooms.

17) Are pets allowed?
Yes. You will need to keep pets leashed and not let them freely roam around brushy areas or along the river because of the possibility of getting snake bit.

The Indoor Space

The bathroom with a large modern shower. The kitchen area features a modern 2-burner stove and range, with a Keurig Coffee Maker.

A cozy bedroom off the kitchen features a plush queen bed with a small hanging closet, 43” Smart TV, and mid-century dresser-drawer.

The kitchen opens up to an open living area with a commanding view Central Texas scenery. Large French-paned windows brings the outdoors in, flooding the tastefully designed rustic-luxury interior with warm natural light. The Living Area is complete with a large 55” Smart TV for streaming Netflix and variety of online platforms. The entire ¼-acre is equipped with high-speed internet access.

Just in between the Kitchen-/Living transition is a quaint, movable table-for-two and 2 sturdy barstools.

The Outdoor Space

Just outside the front door, you’ll find a comfy patio with chairs and side table for coffee time or any time.

A few short steps away, you’ll enjoy a smokeless stone fire pit, stocked with firewood. Additional 8-log firewood bundles can be purchased. Relax around the firepit or enjoy a game of cornhole or horseshoes.

The Llano River—just 2-minutes away by car or a short 5-min walk—is the perfect place to have some outdoor fun, fishing, kayaking or to just simply unwind.
Your Tiny Home Retreat offers 2 kayaks, rowing ores and life vests for just $55 per kayak.

- "The space is absolutely precious! Even though it’s small it feels very spacious! The owners really thought of everything - they had all the amenities I needed for a few days. The outdoor area is so cozy and the firewood was already stacked for me in the fire pit which was great for me to get it started quickly, before it got cold! The property is well lit but not too bright. I chose this location for stargazing and it was perfect! It was nice to walk around the property a bit and see the deer running around as well as visiting the owner’s animals. I would highly recommend this property! The space
We are here to provide a home away from home for those travelling alone or with horses. We can provide accommodations for up to 4 horses with our large indoor stalls (stalls will include an upcharge) and free use of our arena. During your stay, you may experience cattle being moved and worked, horses being trained and plenty of team roping practice. We thrive on this life and hope that you will find all of your wishes and enjoyment at our ranch.

Additionally, you will most likely see some amazing sunsets, beautiful star gazing and the peace and quiet of being separated from the hustle and bustle of a busy life.
Farm fresh eggs are also available for purchase for those who are looking forward to a delicious breakfast.

Pets: this home can accommodate up to 2 dogs with an additional Pet Fee of $50 per dog per stay. This fee is not included in your final booking price. If you are bringing dogs, please contact our Customer Care Team after booking to pay the pet fee.

Those travelling with horses will also need to contact Customer Care after booking your stay. Stall rentals are $20 per night. (We ask that you clean the inside portion of the stall when departing, rakes and wheelbarrows provided.)

Parking is available for up to two vehicles and those travelling with trailers can make arrangements when booking stalls with Customer Care.
