We're open-Hurricane Helen spared our county!
Are the backwoods calling? Travel on uneven gravel & dirt to arrive at this tiny home and unique setting. 400 sq ft cabin overlooks two boulder filled creeks plus a mountain ridge view! 2 mi from paved road w/shallow potholes & rocks. 5" clearance (not 4WD) needed. NOT suitable for motorcycles. (Charging EV batteries not allowed. Venomous snakes and wild animals live in the woods) Use ONLY our directions and you'll enjoy the adventure getting here!
Logging days of the past used the creeks to harvest timber. Now their roads bring you to this little cabin with lots of white noise. Bring your pole as it's home to wild brook trout or hatchery supported downstream.
Country décor shows logging history in this well-equipped 400 sq ft cabin. Relax on the deck or take a nap in the covered porch. Walk your own private trail that leads to the creek-side deck.
The Nantahala National Forest is our backyard and playground. Bring your outdoor gear for adventure right outside your door. Come "tame the dragon", ride the "Cherohala Skyway" or "hug" a tree at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.
"It was hard to leave" is the best compliment we get! We hope to hear from ya!
- "Wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of nature. Doug and Alice and Skippy are the best !" - "Beautiful spot to unplug and spend some time in the woods." - "This cabin was neat and tidy! I expected to see bugs since we were in the middle of the woods but I never saw any inside the cabin! Sitting on the porch and listening to the creek was very relaxing. The owners were great in communicating directions and instructions to us and always available to answer our questions. I would highly recommend this cabin for a quiet retreat and any other properties that these owners own!"

Welcome to our cherished mountain cabin, a place where generations of memories have been made and where your own story can begin. Tucked into the heart of the Appalachian woods, our cabin has been a haven for our family and grandkids for many summers. It's a sanctuary where the sounds of the forest meet the gentle ripple of a creek, where starry nights are filled with fireflies, and where the great outdoors feels just a step away.
As you arrive, the wrap-around porch beckons, offering a perfect spot to rock in the chairs and take in the serene mountain landscape. It's here that we’ve spent countless evenings with our grandkids, sipping hot chocolate and sharing stories while the sun sets behind the peaks.
The cabin comfortably sleeps six, with two cozy bedrooms featuring queen-sized beds and a loft with a thick full-size futon. The two full bathrooms make it easy for everyone to get ready for a day of adventure. And when the day winds down, there's nothing like heading out to the deck to breathe in the fresh mountain air.
Our grandkids have always loved exploring the property. The small creek is a favorite spot to splash around, and the yard is perfect for a family game of kickball. And if you're into exploring further, we're just minutes from Fontana Lake, where you can enjoy boating and fishing, or take a scenic picnic at the Fontana Dam. The Great Smoky Mountain Railway, Santa Land, and the Gold Mines are just a short drive away, offering endless fun for kids and adults alike.
For the adventurous, our cabin is near the world-famous Tail of the Dragon and Moonshine 28, a paradise for motorcycle enthusiasts. Hike the Appalachian Trail, go whitewater rafting at NOC, or challenge yourself on the Class IV Cheoah River. The Cherohala Skyway and Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest are also must-see destinations.
Every summer, we've brought our grandkids to this cabin to share in the joy and beauty of the mountains. Now, we'd like to invite you to create your own traditions here. Whether you're looking for outdoor thrills, family bonding, or a peaceful retreat, our cabin has something for everyone.

Our comfortable, recently renovated 1000 sq. ft 2 story traditional mountain cabin provides a restful and unique setting to enjoy your mountain vacation and renew your spirit. The house is located on the perimeter of Yellow Branch Farm, a former dairy farm and creamery. Guests are welcome to walk around the farm and garden. The location is very quiet with an occasional car, farm vehicle, or pedestrian passing by the house on Yellow Branch Road. Also nearby is Silverbell Studio, a pottery studio that established by the gals who purchased Yellow Branch Pottery in 2022.
The spacious downstairs of this cabin includes a great room with vaulted ceiling, an open, well-stocked, compact galley kitchen and dining area.
Also downstairs is a bedroom with double bed, a sitting room with DVD player and hundreds of movies. The full bathroom with tub/shower is also located on the main level.
The upper floor is an open loft with queen bed and NEWLY ADDED, 1/2 bath. No more going downstairs in the middle of the night!
Cell service is not available on the property and there is a land line available for local and long distance calls at no charge. WiFi is available.
The pastoral and quiet setting includes a spacious deck, covered porch, firepit, and a Weber charcoal grill. A starter amount of charcoal and firewood is provided.
Fontana Lake is just down Yellow Branch Road. Please check with us about access to lake for swimming and kayaking. There are plenty of safe places to walk in the neighborhood. Also, close by are Cable Cove boat ramp, Fontana Village and Marina, Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center, the Appalachian Trail, Tsali Recreation Area, Nantahala Gorge for white water rafting, Joyce Kilmer Forest, Cherokee, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, to name a few attractions. Robbinsville is 15 miles away and Bryson City, 25 miles.
We didn't rent in 2023 after Bruce fell from a ladder while helping a neighbor in January. The injuries were serious and he is still on the mend. He is now able to work in the garden, lawn maintenance and general repairs. We are grateful for the support and out reach from our community. We are happy to be back in business and look forward to meeting you!

If you're wanting to get away from urban life and drive to the backwoods, we'd love to host you in our 200 sq ft treehouse-like one room glamping cabin, attached to our back deck (we live here).
View the prettiest creek off your private deck! Furnished to make simple meals or on the propane grill. 5" vehicle road clearance needed, not 4WD, for uneven gravel/dirt lane with potholes. NOT suitable for motorcycles. 2 miles from paved road. Venomous snakes and wild animals are indigenous to our area. No charging EV batteries. Use ONLY our directions and you'll enjoy the adventure getting here!
- "Beautiful!" - "We went to stay one night at this beautiful cabin and it was better than advertised. Sounds from the creek was so soothing. We had a relaxing experience and Alice was great in giving us the directions and making us feel home once we got there. We highly recommend this place to whoever looking for a place to stay during their smoky mountains visit. Thanks, Ninan & Jasmin" - "The Owl's Perch is situated in a remote forest overlooking a beautiful mountain stream. It's a tiny cabin, but very cleverly designed and outfitted. There are many craftsmanship features that help make a stay more peasant and memorable, like the surface of a bedside table made of a think slab of beautiful walnut. The very pretty deck features a trio of locally-carved uprights with animal sculptures. The hosts are very helpful with directions to the many natural attractions in the area. The last couple of dirt road miles approaching the cabin are quite rough, but my 2014 Prius managed it without faltering.Graham County is such a wonderful area and the Owl's Perch is a peaceful and inexpensive location from which to enjoy it."

- "This cabin is so comfortable and peaceful ! Its well stocked!! My husband and and I spent a day in Bryson City...cute little town! The rest if the time we relaxed and enjoyed this gem! Its named "Cozy Cabin " and it is...in a very good way!" - "Well kept cabin, very private in a good location" - "My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend and it was perfect. We got lucky with warm weather in February, so we were able to enjoy the huge deck and fire pit. The hot tub was very clean (almost too clean as the chlorine bleached out my swim suit, so maybe don’t wear your favorite!) From the cabin it was an easy and beautiful drive to our favorite spots: downtown Bryson City, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Fontana Lake, Joyce Kilmer Forest, and much more."

★ ADDITIONAL DETAILS ★
• We are available to assist you with all details of your stay, big or small. Please don’t hesitate to send us a message or give us a call.
• DO NOT flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet. PLEASE throw all other products in the trash can. The plumbing is all septic. These systems cannot drain like city sewer and will easily clog if paper towels, baby wipes, feminine products, etc. get in there.
• If you plan to enjoy an outdoor fire, you will need to bring your own firewood or collect wood from around the property. If there is wood on the property you are welcome to use it, however, we can’t guarantee that the pile will always be stocked. Please purchase firewood locally!
• If you plan to utilize the indoor fireplace, we encourage guests to bring a manufactured fire log (such as Duraflame or Enviro-Log). Please only use manufactured logs in the fireplace and do not leave any fires unattended.
• There is camera surveillance on the exterior of the property, facing the parking area and back doors for security purposes. Please do not tamper with these cameras.
• Please note that there are narrow, steep and winding roads with gravel to access the property. A four-wheel, all-wheel, or front-wheel drive vehicle is recommended to get up and down the mountain and driveway. The driveway is steep and requires some speed to get out of. There is parking on site for two to three vehicles, as well as overflow parking at the bottom of the mountain for any motorcycles, trailers, etc that do not feel comfortable coming up the mountain. This overflow parking has signs marking it as “The Pines Parking.” The overflow parking is located 0.5 miles from the cabin. The Pines Road is not serviced with snow removal during the winter months.
• You are in the woods away from it all. You may see bears, snakes, boars, mice, deer, spiders, insects and other exciting critters. We treat the cabin for pests quarterly to encourage these critters to stay outdoors.
• Please note this cabin is in a heavily wooded and rural area and occasionally weather conditions can cause power outages that are out of our control. We will do everything we can to promptly fix these issues, however, we are not responsible for outages due to these natural occurrences.
• Graham County does not offer trash pick up. We welcome guests to utilize the dump site daily that is just up the street. This helps avoid critters getting into the trash overnight.
★ POLICIES ★
• Check-in begins at 3 pm. Check-out is by 11 am. Please note that arriving early or departing late will result in additional charges of $50 per hour unless previously arranged. We are happy to accommodate early check-ins and/or late check-outs for your convenience when our schedule allows for it at no extra charge.
• No smoking inside the cabin (outside only, at least 20 feet from windows and doors). Please pick up and properly dispose of any cigarette butts.
• Pets are welcome with a one time $25 pet fee. Please let us know prior to your stay if you’ll be bringing a pet so that the fee can be added to your booking. This fee helps us offset the fee for extra cleaning and goes straight to our wonderful cleaners. We ask that pets be limited to two per trip.
• No loud parties and only 6 guests, please.
• Must be at least 25 years old to book. A photo ID may be required upon booking.
• Additional fees and taxes may apply.
• Please treat our home as if it is your own. We understand that accidents happen. However, guests will be responsible for all costs associated with any excessive damage caused during their stay by them, their guests, and/or pets.

- "The cabin was beautiful, super clean, and comfortable. We slept well in the King sized loft and enjoyed the recliner for afternoon naps. ; ) My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. We did use our 4 wheel drive for the gravel drive up to the cabin as it is very steep and narrow. That said the location was perfect for us. In 10 min we could be lakeside with our Kayak or on the mountain bike trails at the Tsali trail head. A 25 minute drive had us in downtown Bryson City in one direction and Fontana Dam in the other."

- "We towed our car to do the Tail of the Dragon and also explore the area. There was plenty of room for the car hauler, truck and car. The cabin was awesome, nicely decorated (especially if you are a car or motorcycle guy). Fire pit, hot tub, and even a place to keep your toys covered from the elements. Convenient location close to town and only about 25 minutes to the Dragon. The owner was always attentive and available if any questions. Definitely a 5 star stay, we will be back for sure."

- "We wanted a week away from the City and everything connected with it and found an absolute Heaven at The Treehouse. The sounds of the little waterfalls running next to the house was like soothing music. The home itself is better than described. Comfortable, spacious and equipped with the essentials for a perfect holiday. Comfortable beds, great water pressure, a fun fire pit and for 25 Kali brought us so much wood! The privacy living among the forest was so inspiring. The hikes through the trees along the streams will be in my dreams forever. Because of health reasons we couldn't take the strenuous uphill hikes but I'm sure they would have been great. I would definitely recommend you come in an SUV because the road is rock/dirt for a few miles and would be hard on a car. Make sure to stop at the grocery store in Robbinsville before you arrive so you don't have to go out for anything once you get there. We had dinner at Snowbird Mountain Lodge (the trout was to die for) and Tapoco Tavern (great pizza and burgers) 2 nights while we were there. Highly recommend them both. We plan to return, bring friends and try out every one of their cabins. Don't miss out on this adventure!"

- "Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband and I just spend the last 6 days at the Dragonfly and we had an amazing, off the grid, relaxing retreat from daily life. The new, clean, private, beautiful tiny house and grounds (including a private trail to the creek) would have been enough but the location is excellent for all outdoor enthusiasts. We drove the Tail of the Dragon, hiked Deep Creek in the Smokey Mountains, the Cherohala Skyway, and a section of the AT. Drove through the Smokey Mountains National Park. Stopped by the Nanatahala Outdoor Center to eat our picnic lunch and watch the white water rafters (didn't raft this time but it's fantastic) and ate lunch (only time we ate out) and shopped in Bryson City. When we were not out exploring we lounged on the screened in porch that feels like you are in your own private tree house or sat by the fire where the fire ring and chairs were set up for our enjoyment. We had our coffee and planned our day every morning on the porch. We ate dinner every night on the deck. Dana is a wonderful hostess and the tiny house had everything we could possibly need. It's a private oasis that serves as home base as you plan your daily adventures and return to rest and relax for the next day."

Whether it is after a day of riding the iconic Tail of the Dragon, hiking the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest or Whitewater Rafting the Cheoah River, you will have plenty of anecdotes to share and undoubtedly plenty of laughter. If you choose so, you can also take on your friends to a relaxing pool game or challenge them to a heated dart game.
Our cabins are minutes from the adventures of riding the Trail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. We offer a quaint and restful cabin, with simple commodities. We know you wont stay inside very much, so we have the necessary for a heavenly sleep and rejuvenating shower before you head back out.
We have 6 cabins available so you can book one or as many as you want, we also have a listing if you wish to rent the entire ground. 3 cabins can accommodate 2 guests on a queen bed. We have 3 cabins that can accommodate 4 guests (one queen bed, one bunk bed with two single beds). One of these 3 cabins is an ADA accessible cabin with a ramp and grab bars in the bathroom.
The property features a paved and level access from US129. All cabins have hard packed, level gravel driveway and parking areas. We understand how important your cars or motorcycle are. We also have a free bike and car wash designated area with basic cleaning products and rags.
There are several propane (free and supplied propane) grills on the property and a covered pavilion with picnic tables as well as a game room and laundry facility.
There is also a large truck & trailer parking area where you can unhook your equipment for the duration of your stay.

The Dragon is popular and internationally famous destination for motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts since 1981. Known as America’s number 1 motorcycle and sports car road, famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles (18 km). The road earned its name from its curves being said to resemble a dragons tail. The stretch bears the street name Tapoco Road in North Carolina and Calderwood Highway in Tennessee and is signed entirely by US 129 (hidden SR 115).
Deals Gap, also known as Tail of the Dragon, is a portion of U.S. Route 129 in Blount County, Tennessee, situated in a gap in Swain County, North Carolina, United States. It was publicized as one of the most scenic drives in USA. This road is appealing to those who are looking for adrenaline rush and excitement. With hundreds of blind curves, long blind crests, and high degrees of camber, this road presents plenty of opportunities to leave the pavement both laterally, and longitudinally, and will provide a challenge even for the most seasoned drivers/bikers.
The Great Smoky Mountains and Cherokee National Forest border the Dragon, there is no development along the 11-mile stretch, this adds to safety as well as natural beauty. The Dragon stretch of US 129 is double-lined as no passing (there are pull offs you can use to allow tailgaters to get ahead of you.) There are also pull-off points along the route for scenic overlooks. The road is certainly breathtaking, but has a fearsome reputation, speed limit was posted at 30 mph in 2002 and still in effect today. Trucks are also prohibited to enter the road due to previous accidents and incidents involving trucks and semi-tractor.
The best time to drive this road is between March and November. Winter months can be hard to predict. The weather on this zone is harsh and highly unpredictable and it does not take much time for the bright sun shine to change over to moderate to heavy snow fall. This road had a reputation for being extremely dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards, and driving under these conditions, can be challenging. This road is not for the faint hearted, but if you are looking for a little excitement and adrenaline pumping journey, don't miss this one.

Rustic log cabin with 14 wooded acres in Western North Carolina. Offers peaceful views of woods, pasture, and a glimpse of the Smoky Mountains. It is private, but not secluded. The screened-in front porch offers the perfect place to relax with your morning cup of coffee while watching the fog lift off of the Smokies in the distance. Ideally situated within driving distance of two mountain lakes -Fontana Lake and Lake Santeetlah. Also close to Joyce Kilmer Forest and the Appalachian Trail.
The space
We love our quiet country cabin nestled in the mountain woods.
This cabin is nearby to many attractions such as hiking on the Appalachian trail, Fontana Lake, Lake Santeetlah, Joyce Kilmer Forest, the Tail of the Dragon, and many local scenic overlooks.
There is an entrance to hike the Appalachian Trail located at “Stecoah Gap” 6.5 miles from the cabin. Search “Stecoah Gap” on g0ogle maps for easy directions to this destination in Sweetwater Rd. Additionally, there is an entrance to the Appalachian Trail near the Fontana Dam 8 miles from the cabin. Search “Fontana Dam Shelter” on go0gle maps for directions to this trailhead, but do some research beforehand because it is a one way hike at this location requiring a shuttle back to your car near the dam.
Another great location for hiking is Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Although this forest is 27 miles from the cabin, it is worth the drive to see virgin trees more than 4 centuries old on beautiful hiking trails.
As you can see on any map, Fontana Lake is very close to the cabin. The closest boating access is 4.9 miles from the cabin at “Cable Cove boating access.”
The marina for Fontana Lake is 7.5 miles from the cabin, where you can rent kayaks or even pontoons. Search “Fontana Village Resort Marina” on go0gle maps. Most of the coastline of this lake is untouched by houses and boathouses are limited to a few coves so this beautiful lake is a testament to nature and well worth exploring.
A littler further out is Lake Santeetlah. One place that might be of interest on Lake Santeetlah is “Cheoah Point Beach” located 21 miles away where the family can unwind on a sandy shore or take a swim.
Guest access
Guests are welcome to any part of THE CABIN all the way down to the fire pit.
Please note, the upstairs loft (described as the second bedroom) is accessible through steep stairs, however the rest of the house is located on the first level.
These steep stairs may not be for the very old or the very young, but they are for the young at heart. However, there is an additional less steep staircase located outside (pictured) that also leads to the loft.
You will find on the property a canoe and a paddle boat which are there for you to use. Please be mindful when loading these on to your vehicle as we will not be liable for damages caused while loading.
We recommend a truck for either the canoe or the paddle boat, however the paddleboat will REQUIRE a truck. It can not be safely loaded onto any other vehicle.
Other things to note
Please note that while we do provide a TV and roku, we do not have cable or satellite on site. However, you are welcome (and encouraged) to sign in to your own streaming apps on the roku device to continue watching your favorite shows and sports while on vacation.
Please do not forget to log out of your apps when leaving; we will also do our best to log you out if you forget.
If you do not have any streaming services that you use, we do provide many older DVDs located under the stairs on a bookshelf and in a large CD folder in a basket next to the sofa as well as kids VHS movies located by the upstairs TV.
