RIVERBANK COTTAGE AWAITS YOU.

Riverbank cottage was originally the lean-to off the main homestead. In 2002 we moved it across the garden rebuilt it and lived there happily while the homestead was renovated. The cottage faces northeast overlooking our vineyard towards the Richmond ranges. It is within a stones throw of the Wairau River.

The space
Guests are welcome to a game of tennis on the court right in front of the cottage and to walk over to the river through the property. Guests can also dine both inside or out with an outside table and chairs set up on the veranda.

Other things to note
The toilet is located through the back door to the cottage under the porch. The way you get to it is undercover but does require you to step outside the back porch to get to it.

Should you wish to bring your pets to stay please note they are welcome but are not allowed to sleep inside the cottage at night. This is to keep the cottage in such a condition for future guests.

We also have a cat and a speagle dog called Jack who has free rein of the place. He is great with other dogs but just something to note if your planning on bringing your pet who may not be friendly towards ours.

Laurella Cottage, a 1860's colonial cottage is a fully self contained accommodation and has been meticulously restored and decorated by your hosts Dave and Sue. With a definite botanical theme running throughout the cottage, fitting for its garden setting, every detail has been thought of, to make your stay in Blenheim, Marlborough as comfortable and pleasurable as possible. The space
The cottage has open plan lounge/dining/kitchenette.
The main bedroom has a queen sized bed and the small, second bedroom has a double bed.Both have a door leading onto the patio.
The main bedroom also has a couch which can fold down to a futon double bed - not for extra guests ! (maximum guests is 4).See house rules re usage please.
There is outdoor furniture to enjoy the views while sitting under the pergoda.
Electric blankets in winter months and heat pump for warming.
A log burner for heating only-(it is not a cooking type burner)is available to use only by prior request and only in winter months. Message me prior to coming and wood will be provided.
If you have infants,the cottage does not have a cot/ bedding- you will need to bring your own.
The kitchen does not have an oven but has 2 hotplate induction cooktop,microwave ,kettle and toaster.
A small BBQ with utensils is out the back (shed stored away over winter).
Various breakfast options are provided in the cottage to help yourself to (Including plunger coffee,bread and milk) .
There is grass space for outside games (Petanque/soccer ball and cricket bats are there to use)
The Opaoa river runs right behind the cottage and you can take a walk along its bank, or just sit and enjoy- all private;only shared by a few sheep!
Lots of birdlife-often by the river you will see waterbirds around-shags,ducks,sometimes swans,as well as grey heron,kingfishers fantails and other.Little owls can often be heard (and if you can spot them !) can sometimes be seen in the trees.We are starting to get tui visitors too.

Other things to note
The 2 main things to be aware of-

1) It is normally a very quiet place .
But we do live amongst vineyards,so please be aware that at certain times ,during the day ,there may be some vineyard activity with noise,dependant on the time of the year.(eg tractors/groups of workers attending to the vines).
Bird scaring devices (bangers) are used during the day, whilst grapes are ripening, approx mid Feb to end March,and can be heard nearby over this period.
FROST FANS run for just a few odd nights of the year,and are loud at night- the risk for this is in spring( Sept /early Oct) nights ,if at all,but you may be there on the night they run- entirely depends on when a frost may occur!!
Harvester runs for 1 night ( noisy)when grapes ready, usually, sometime mid to end of March. We can't predict what night it will be as it is weather dependent!

My home is relaxing and for your enjoyment In the winter please feel free to sit by the fire or put television on and use the entertainment area, or use the spa pool. I have HDMI for your laptop. In the summer months the bbq area is available.
