The Potting Shed is the quintessential 5* Cotswold escape. Following an 18 month restoration completed in May 2019, this stone barn conversion has just been launched. Located within the grounds of an elegant Grade II listed Georgian town house on Cecily Hill - voted one of the prettiest streets in England, this romantic getaway is accessed by a private stone bridge which leads through through a formal kitchen garden to a stunning private terrace. Follow us on Instagram at @the_potting_shed_cirencester for more photos and updates about our property!
The Potting Shed is a self-contained converted stone barn which occupies 550 sq ft of living space and has a generous 200 sq ft private terrace. This gorgeous hideaway sits in our grounds but, with its own separate entrance, it is a very private cottage.
Following an extensive restoration from the ground up in 2018/19, we have used local materials and Cotswold craftsmanship to create a retreat that’s been decorated to a very high standard throughout using beautiful fittings, Farrow and Ball paints and designer fabrics.
Upstairs under the eaves, with their original lime-washed oak beams and exposed Cotswold stone walls, are 4 heritage double glazed conservation windows, fitted with black out blinds for the light early mornings. The king sized double bed occupies one end of the bedroom while a generous cupboard sits at the other end with hanging rails for your clothes and space for your bags. All the upstairs lighting controls are conveniently located next to both sides of the bed.
Downstairs features a great living space with excellent wifi and underfloor heating installed throughout. There’s a fully equipped kitchen containing a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge with ice compartment, gas cooker, microwave and masses of kitchen utensils, pots and pans… so if you fancy dining in, there’s everything you need to create delicious meals while the drop-leaf dining table can be extended from 2 to 4 places.
In the cosy living area, there’s a deep sofa and a 4k TV with access to both Catch-up and Netflix. Finally, for those chilly evenings, a stylish Chesneys gas fire will keep you lovely and warm and as it’s operated by remote control, you need only to lift a finger!
The luxurious bathroom is also located downstairs and is equipped with underfloor heating and high end fittings such as a Hanns Grohe shower, Burlington taps and natural Bramley bathroom products, all designed for complete indulgence.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as can be, we’ve kitted out the cottage with a fully integrated heating system operated by Nest, which also controls the underfloor heating. But your safety is vital so we’ve also installed an intelligent AutoMist® fire suppression system.
Outside, the terrace is perfectly set-up for alfresco drinks and dining and it is there exclusively for your use. There is a shared formal kitchen garden or potager, bordered by a mature hedge which forms the boundary of the shared space, beyond which the rest of the garden is private. The Gumstool Brook bridge was also rebuilt last year and the iron decorative railings and pillars which we added won the Cirencester 2019 Civic Design award.
Checking-in, Dropping off & Parking
The Potting Shed is set up for self check-in, with a keypad entry system on the bridge and a key safe by the front door. Unfortunately, we do not provide parking on site, however there is a drop off point at the end of the Gumstool Brook path, where guests can unload. Cars can be parked at The Old Station, The Brewery, Waterloo or The Beeches car parks; there is also free off-street parking on Baunton Lane (subject to availability) just 3 minutes’ walk away. Alternatively, private parking can be arranged for a small charge, including a Type 2 EV charge point. For those travelling without a car, Kemble train station is situated 10 minutes from Cirencester – and trains from London take 1hr 20mins.
From May until September, the beautiful Cirencester open air swimming pool, with its warm spring-fed water, is open from 7am. It’s a couple of minutes' walk along from the Gumstool Brook bridge so why not go for a refreshing early morning dip!
- "This adorable cottage is exactly as shown in the pictures. It’s super comfortable and we loved that we could walk to dinner. We had a little issue with the code and the owner called immediately to help." - "The Potting Shed was fantastic !! Clean, modern, the perfect cottage in an incredible location." - "This little hidden gem was the most charming place to spend a couple of days visiting the Cotswold area. - "Squirrels Leap was very well equipped. They have catered for children very well and had everything you needed to be able to occupy a family on rainy days. It is a home from home with lovely views of the lake. The sofas in the main area of the room were really low for us as we are a tall family.Unusually the beds were super comfy too.One comment which is not the owners fault is the mention of an outside heated pool. The pool outside most definitely was not heated and the inside pool was cool. We had a 9 month old baby with us and the pool was too cold for her to stay in for very long but apart from that its a good base to explore the area"

Tranquil views and snug furnishings welcome you to Firecrest, a place that feels very ‘hygge' (the Danish concept of contentment in cosy surroundings). Whether you take that as your cue to play board games around the fire, enjoy dinner at the banquet-style table or step onto the balcony to soak up the sounds of nature, this spot feeds the soul in every way.
Set over three floors, Firecrest's magnificent open-plan living area is the hub of the home and all centered around its finely crafted woodburner, which has a knack for bringing everyone together in one place. After putting your phone on airplane mode, settle down on one of two comfortable sofas, clink a glass and enjoy nibbles to the ambient sound of the crackling fire. When tummies rumble, prepare dinner in the well-equipped kitchen that overlooks the tennis courts while the kids have fun drawing on the chalkboard. Make sure to place a few bottles in the spacious wine fridge before choosing to dine either inside or al fresco where there's seating for 10 people. As bellies draw full and eyes tired, slink off for a restorative sleep in one of the four bedrooms located both upstairs, and down on the ground floor, not forgetting to catch a glimpse of the stars from Firecrest's plethora of glass doors and skylights.
Once outside, tune in to the peaceful sounds of the surrounding wetlands composed by the orchestra of unique wildlife that call this freshwater paradise home (think swans, herons and coots!) By morning, watch the sun rise over the lake and commence your day with a dip in the natural outdoor pool, or try a workout at the gym courtesy of the two complementary spa passes that come with your stay at Firecrest. There is also designated parking for one car at Firecrest, and additional parking located at the overflow car park on site.

The ground floor terrace features wooden decking, seating for a plethora of guests and a grassy area for kids and pets to play. On warmer days, light the BBQ and serve up a delicious feast whilst gazing across to the nearby lake. With a magical view stretching across the wetlands, the balcony is undoubtedly the highlight of this special spot. Framed by a gleaming glass panel fence, it's ripe for pulling out a rattan chair and unwinding with a glass or two as the sun sinks over the water's edge.
- "We stayed at Firecrest as a family of 9 for an 80th birthday. The accommodation was perfect for the occasion. We had everything we needed for our stay. We had all the information we needed before hand and we knew who to contact if we needed anything during our stay. Would definitely recommend and we would stay again. Many thanks" - "House very clean, very roomy for the 7 of us. Great views of the lake. Would like to be there in summer to make use of the outside space. kitchen very well equipped. Great gift left in the wine fridge-much appreciated. The site is great for walks, however would benefit from a designated footpath. There is a low speed limit but still a lot of vehicle movement on site. The pool, sauna and steam room area was a great bonus. Not so sure about the eco pool in October!!! - "Loved our stay at Wisteria Cottage, the cottage was amazing, everything you need for a relaxing get away! Liz was so lovely, she was there to explain how the hot tub worked & had left a fab welcome hamper, even treats for the dog. Short walk to the pub, food was great & the shops were in walking distance too! Would highly recommend, thank you Liz & Phil for a lovely stay :o)" - "We had a wonderful week in the cottage. It had every amenity you could wish for to make the holiday a very relaxing and enjoyable one. The welcome pack was the best we had ever experienced and Liz and Phil were great hosts. They were there if you needed help or advice with anything but kept their distance to enable you to feel relaxed and comfortable in their property. The hot tub was used daily by us and was a very welcome addition to our holiday. There are two very good pubs within a couple of minutes walking distance from the cottage that serve excellent food. There is also a very good Indian restaurant within a couple of minutes walk from the cottage too. The village also has a fish and chip shop which we didn't try but must have been excellent as the queues were always long when open! There are many walks around this picturesque village and many places to visit a short distance drive away like the Cotswolds Beach and County Park and Cirencester which has many cafes, pubs, and tea rooms as well as good shopping too. All in all we had a very good week and will definitely be back one day."

- "Absolutely spot on all round. A lovely house in an ideal and peaceful spot on Isis lake. It’s clean, airy and has a lovely terrace to sit on overlooking the lake. A short walk to the playground, tennis courts and short cut to South Cerney. We stayed initially as 2 adults and a 2 year old which was very spacious and then 4 adults and a 2 year year old which was a little cosier but absolutely fine. It has all the amenities you need plus fast wifi. TV is a little basic so would recommend taking a firestick to access Netflix/Amazon etc if you need that - but otherwise a really great stay. We would wholly recommend and most likely to book again in the near future."

No. 32 is a lovely stone cottage in the Cotswolds, in North Cerney, near Cirencester.
This pretty 2-bedroomed cottage is situated next to our home, so creating the perfect cosy, comfortable retreat has been somewhat a labour of love.
Our aim is for you relax, unwind and make the most of your surroundings when you stay at N.32, so during your holiday you will have exclusive use of our gated drive, a private patio and a lovely, large back garden complete with fire pit and children's play area.
The space
LOCATION
N.32 is located in the heart of North Cerney village, next to its little primary school. The cottage is set back from the road and looks out onto a pretty cottage-style front garden. A 5-barred gate opens into the spacious driveway between N.32 and our home (you will have exclusive use of this drive throughout your holiday).
ACCESS
The cottage , though it shares its back wall with our annexe, is detached on three sides, and so feels private. It has two separate entrances, one at the front of the house, and the other to the side.
GROUND FLOOR
Entering through this side door you find yourself in the light and airy kitchen where you will find everything you will need to be able to cook away from home without compromise.
The ground floor layout is open plan, and as a result feels unusually light and airy for a traditional cottage still rich in character. We have created zones for lounging and dining and provided plump cushions and warm throws to encourage you to take some time to curl up next to the fire with a book, or treat yourself to an indulgent afternoon snooze.
For younger guests, next to the TV we have provided a selection of board games and there is an XBOX One with two controllers, complete with a selection of games suitable for children 12 years and under.
UPSTAIRS
The bedrooms are reached by stairs by the side of the kitchen area. All rooms lead off a small, carpeted landing, among them a light bathroom, equipped with WC, bath and over-bath shower, and a study/utility room laid out with desk, chair and washing machine (available for your use).
Both bedrooms look out onto the pretty cottage-style front garden and are each equipped with fitted wardrobes. We have taken care to create the bedrooms we would choose to sleep in with calming colour-schemes, high quality furniture and 100% cotton bed linen with a high thread-count (300 minimum).
PATIO & GARDEN
A highlight of N.32, particularly during the warmer months, is the access to outside space. The study/utility room opens out onto a spacious, private patio, the perfect space for eating al fresco or relaxing and soaking up some sun. Table tennis is also provided for those feeling a little more energetic!
We would like you to really feel at home at N.32, and so during your stay you will have exclusive use of our tiered, lawned back garden complete with children's play area with wooden framed swings, walkway and slide. For long, lazy nights under the stars, we have created a cosy stone circle with fire pit for you to enjoy.
Our aim is for you to feel that you can make full use of the garden, and so will respect your privacy and refrain from using it during your stay. We may occasionally sit out on our own patio (separate from that of N.32 and not visible from N.32's patio) at times when the garden is free.
CHILDREN & GARDEN SAFETY
We would suggest that currently N.32 is not suitable for children from crawling age to 5 years old due to potentially dangerous aspects of the garden: The garden is on an upper level and there is a large stone staircase running down to the parking area from the edge of the garden, which is currently not child-proof. Both garden and parking area are gated, however again these are not completely child-proof as are unbolted at present.
Our aim is to improve this and make the cottage and garden safer so that we can welcome families with toddlers and very young children, but this is a project for later this spring/early summer.
**NEW!** Looking for ADDITIONAL BEDROOM SPACE so parents/grandparents/friends can stay too? You can have access to a double room with private ensuite in a lovely house just 2 minutes' up the lane from No.32 - please message us if interested for details.
Guest access
During your stay you will have use of the large drive/parking area, a private patio and large garden.
