Kirkwall, the Orkney capital, is a vibrant and bustling market town with many shops, good restaurants and pubs and is perhaps best known for the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, widely considered to be one of the finest medieval buildings in the north. Visit Highland Park and the Scapa Whisky Distilleries, and the Earls Palace to name just a few of the many attractions in Kirkwall itself. From Kirkwall you can visit many wonderful archaeological sites, take a ferry trip out to some of the wonderfully scenic Outer Isles, and visit some of the many museums and craft workshops – so much to see and do for all ages.

2 Earl Thorfinn is located a 5 mins walk to Kirkwall town centre, St Magnus Cathedral, Earl Palace, cafes, shops, bars, restaurants, bus station but still in a quiet area with free parking & Wifi, 25mins drive to Neolithic sites, Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, Masehowe etc. 10 mins from the airport and Northlink Ferry Dock, Note with AB&B it may be cheaper to book for 7 nights than a 5 or 6-night stay. click “contact host” if you would like more info information or enquire regards a shorter stay.

Scandinavian cool meets Captain's cabin cosy in this comfortable cottage located off a quiet courtyard right in the heart of Kirkwall's historic conservation area. A superking size bed on the first floor with the option of a sofa bed on the ground floor.

The space
This former shipping agent's store has been restored to a house with a lounge and small kitchen at ground floor level and a spacious bedroom with a superking size (6'0') bed and en-suite shower on the upper floor. The two spaces are linked by an open stair. If you need it, we can provide bedding for the sofa bed on request and open up the second shower room on the ground floor.

Secondary glazing and an air source heat pump ensure modern comforts whilst retaining the character of 150 year old sash windows that flood the upstairs with light. We assume that you'll want to be out-and-about enjoying Orkney's sights and culture but for when you're at home, TV's, USB chargers, and good quality wifi are provided on both levels

With a small supermarket, a deli and a variety of pubs and restaurants within a few hundred yards and a short walk to transport hubs, this is the perfect place to base yourself to explore Orkney's rich and varied human and natural history.

And you're welcome to bring your well-behaved dog.

The property adjoins a large public car park with free overnight parking, form 5pm to 9am (free all day on Sundays). You can also prepay for parking for the following morning so you don't need to be up early to feed the meter.

There is free parking at the harbour opposite the Ayre Hotel a few minutes walk away.

The parking space at the rear of the building may be used briefly for drop off and pick-up as available.

Other things to note
There is a single step inside the house at the entrance so the house is not wheelchair accessible.

Escape to Orkney and stay in this modern, recently renovated cottage. Fieldhouse lies only a short walk from the heart of Kirkwall and is a 5 minute drive from the beautiful Scapa beach. If you prefer to walk you can take the scenic Crantit Trail. Fieldhouse is on a main bus route ideal for travel to tourist destinations. Fieldhouse is a short walk from both Highland Park Distillery and Scapa Distillery.
