We enjoy our wine country life and would like to share it with you! Our two-bedroom, two-bath cottage sits in front of our CCOF-certified organic Syrah vines with its own private bocce ball court! Enjoy the setting of our vineyard and farm right out the french doors or from the upstairs deck. A short stroll – or ride on our complimentary cruisers – will take you to the heart of the historic charming town of Los Olivos where you can enjoy over 30 tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants. Our Bernat Winery Retreat is on our private property but in a private location from the main house. Luxurious bedding with down comforters and pillows, bathrobes, and locally crafted bath products made from grapeseeds from our vineyard, are just a few of the amenities you will find at the Winery and Vineyard Retreats at Bernat. For those who decide to make a meal at home during their stay, we welcome them to harvest lettuce and herbs from our 3-acre organic farm, also on the property. If you picture yourself coming home to a comfortable well-appointed wine country cottage after a fun day of touring Santa Barbara wine country, playing a game of bocce ball while watching the sunset over the vineyard and oak-studded hills enjoying a salad you just harvested, then you'll love the Bernat Winery Retreat!

Los Olivos and Surrounding Area: The 20+ tasting rooms, galleries, and restaurants, of our quaint little town, are a 10-minute walk (20-minute stroll) or a short bike ride away. We also offer complimentary cruisers. Our kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, there is a little market down the street (a 5-minute stroll). But with the world-class dining available in our area you might not want to boil water.
The Santa Ynez Valley comprises the Danish town of Solvang, the western-themed town of Santa Ynez, Ballard, Buellton, and Los Olivos. Aside from tasting the many vintages of the Santa Barbara County wines the valley offers; biking, horseback riding (in fact, if you have a horse and want to bring them, we have room for two), hiking, fishing, live theatre, movie theatre, shopping, festivals, surfing and much more. Santa Barbara is a 40-minute drive and the beach is only 30 minutes.
If you only stay two nights, you'll wish you have stayed more!

This property has it all. It is a quaint house on a knoll surrounded by pastures and hills. The house is on a working ranch but is secluded and away from all the ranch activities. There is a lot of space to relax outdoors. We have a 300 year old heritage Valley Oak in back of the house and an arroyo seco (dry creek bed) alongside it. Specimen trees surround the house shading it in the heat of summer. The front porch is another spot to sit, and take in the sun setting behind rolling hills. There is also a back porch with a beautiful sitting area for dining or relaxing (day or evening). As for the house, you won't be disappointed. It is a two bedroom, two bathroom Spanish house full of charm. The master bedroom has French doors out to your own yard where horses graze in the distance. The guest room is also fabulous and cozy adorned with a queen bed and modern decor. There is a TV in the master bedroom and a great bathroom with two sinks and a soaking tub. The living room is equipped with a fireplace and comfy seating. The dining area is also set up to accommodate your needs. We have a full kitchen for cooking with brand new appliances. And best of all, a separate laundry room attached to an office with a pullout sofa for extra guests. This property has it all and is a short distance (7 minutes) to town, 3 minute drive to Sunstone, Kalyra and Brave & Maiden wineries (so close you could walk to them and back). You're away from it all yet close to it all. There are several leisurely hikes and bikes right out of the front door. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

The space
The Cottage at Great Dane Guest House is as charming as it sounds! Freshly remodeled, this studio offers clean, modern living, with a touch of vintage charm. The bedroom features a queen Tempurpedic bed, 300 thread count linens and down bedding. The living area provides plenty of space for you to spread out and play games, watch a movie or comfortably read a book, and features a sofa that doubles as a small twin-sized bed, appropriate for a child or adult less than 5'5" tall. The quaint bathroom will remind you of Europe and features a small walk-in shower with a tall shower head (adjustable up to over 8 feet). The Cottage also has a fun kitchen with gas stovetop, fridge and microwave, and is equipped with everything you need to cook dinner or prepare your morning cup of coffee (there is no oven). If you feel like getting out, spend some time on the private patio, and perhaps you'll see Solvang's horse-drawn trolley pass by. You can also hang out in our larger courtyard garden. Featuring drought tolerant and primarily native plants, the garden changes season-by-season, and always lends a little color to your scenery. It's the perfect place to dine outside or relax with a glass of wine.

Access to the cottage is easy with your own private parking space and gated entrance just behind the unit. Each building is separate, so you will not have anyone staying above you. Our cottage accommodates 2-4 people -- a perfect spot for a couple or a small family. Our rentals are also pet friendly, so your dog (Or cat? Rabbit? Turtle?) is welcome.

Bedding and towels will be provided, along with toiletries such as soaps, shampoo/conditioner and lotion. We offer EO Products, which are free from synthetic fragrances, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and GMO-free. Our linens and towels are freshly laundered with detergent that is hypoallergenic and contains no dyes, phosphates, ultraviolet brighteners or perfumes.

Guest access
The cottage is a private first floor space that has it's own entrances (2). The private front patio overlooks one of Solvang's main streets (there is also a driveway that ends where the patio begins, so owner's cars may be parked there which may obstruct the view, and occasionally owners or another guest may walk through the area to access a gate). The courtyard is available as well, if you'd like to spread out and hang in the garden with a glass of wine or dinner. The unit is behind the main house but accessed from either the street or the alley, with your own parking spot just behind the building. There will be nobody above you. Use of the common areas (Courtyard and front yard) are subject to availability, depending on use by owners or other guests.

Other things to note
Our city requires a 12% Transient occupancy tax, which will be added to your booking automatically. The tax is based on the nightly rental rate, and not on the cleaning fee. A Transient Occupancy Tax Certificate from the city is on display in the unit.

Our property is situated directly behind Solvang Festival Theater - a charming outdoor theater that hosts plays and music events mostly throughout the summer. From the cottage, you can actually see the theater (unfortunately not the stage) and listen to the shows. While the shows can be heard clearly while outdoors, you can hear them only slightly while inside. We love hearing the shows in the evenings and have never found it to be a nuisance. But you should consider that if you prefer perfect silence. The shows are in the evenings, usually finishing up around 10pm. During the day, Solvang is a bustle with tourist activity and the tingling of bells on the trolley horses. But, by about 6 pm, things quiet down considerably and you rarely hear any noise at night.

The space
Bedrooms bright and clean, entire house lovely and special. There are three steps to enter the house from the front, but a level entry into the back door.
Inside the house are several single shallow steps from one room to another, which wouldn't suit a wheelchair too well, unless someone helps to ease it over the step.

This listing is for the entire free-standing house, on 5 acres, house situated in the most accessible corner of the acreage, directly adjacent to the entry to Lincourt winery which you access by a simple, short walk, open Wednesday through Sunday., 11 to 5pm for purchases and wine tasting. Lincourt owned by Bill Foley since 1996.
