The local town of Llangadog offers places to eat and shop, eat out or shop and eat in, either experience is worth trying. A supper in the huts, a glass of wine on the decking veranda and stare up at the stars and contemplate the universe. I wanted to stay forever and not leave the peace and tranquil ambience which envelops the area. This is a definite revisit for me, just an amazing place and unique gemstone. There are some very well considered finer details, a book on the history of restoration of Shepherds Huts, authentic fittings and furniture. A wood burning stove which in winter with a crisp frost or sprinkle of snow would be comforting and warming. I really, truthfully and honestly cannot recommend Black Mountain Breakaway enough. "

Owl Barn is a fantastic recent conversion of an old stone and slate building on an upland hill farm in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
With its stylish decor and amazing views of the Brecon Beacons this romantic and quirky spacious barn will both wow and cosset you.
There are 2 large double bedrooms and 2 shower rooms;
The master bedroom has a super king size (6 foot) double bed and an en-suite shower room.
The second bedroom has a king size double bed, a single bed and a large baby's cot.
So we can accommodate up to 5 plus a baby.
We do not allow sleeping overnight on the sofas.
You will have ample parking spaces, a sheltered outside space and a little bit of peace and quiet.

The master bedroom with en suite shower room is at the end of the barn.
The second bedroom has a comfortable king size double bed, a single bed and a baby's cot.

There is a communal shower room, which is spacious, and has a loo and spacious wet room type shower with no step into the shower.

The large kitchen is a chef's paradise, with a breakfast bar island that seats 4.
Stylish and well fitted, equipment includes; electric double oven, grill and ceramic hob with extractor fan, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster, cafetiere and all the usual cooking utensils and pans etc. Superb views over the surrounding countryside.

Guests have the whole of Owl Barn and the terraced outside area with tables and seating to themselves, along with several parking spaces.
You are welcome to roam across the 40 acres of the farm (maps provided), which has several delightful spots for picnics, farm walks and some wonderful views.
So bring your wellies, walking boots, coats and binoculars.
You may see Red Kites, buzzards, sparrow hawks, starlings, swallows, wagtails, cuckoos, woodpeckers, crows, finches and probably lots of other birds and even, perhaps, hear the owl we named the barn after!
The dark night skies are a treat for city dwellers; you can easily pick out the Milky Way on a clear night.
Squirrels, badgers, hares, hedgehogs, sheep and cows as well as the occasional fox and feral cat too.
Maybe the odd low flying fast jet or a Hercules, possibly even below where you are standing, which is always impressive, if loud!

I live on the farm in the main house across the yard, but I am often away too, so you may well not see me at all.
You will be given instructions, by email, about accessing the keys a couple of days prior to arrival.
However, I am always available on the phone/email/WhatsApp etc.

The Neighbourhood

Llandovery is a pleasant market town, only 10 mins by car, along the leafy lane that leads down to the main road.
Many shops, including a medium size supermarket, bakers, butchers, delis, cafes Post office, gift shops etc.
A great Chinese takeaway, and the Three Horseshoes fish and chip restaurant and takeaway, both on the main street are recommended, and there are Indian and other fast food outlets.
There are several good places to eat out;
The Old Printing Office cafe (daytime) is my favourite, behind the shop.
The Kings Head and Castle Hotels do good food, as does the Three Horse Shoes restaurant and takeaway.
The town used to have over 30 pubs! But now there are approximately 4,
and there a several country pubs in the Towy valley that make a good welcome and do food.

Llandovery is the home of the Llandovery Drovers, a sucessful semi professional Welsh Premiership rugby side, and the centre of the small town is occupied by the famous Llandovery College, where many sporting greats have come to the notice of talent spotters, especially on the rugby field.
There is a swimming pool, tennis squash and racquetball courts, bowls and croquet adjacent to the delightful Castle Fields cricket ground, next to the car park in the centre of town.
A visit to the livestock market, beyond the town car park, on Tuesday mornings or most Fridays could be an interesting excursion.

This lovely rural area is fantastic for the outdoors with walking, cycling, both on road and off, and we even have a great MTB trail within easy cycling range of the farm, Cwm Rhaeadr MTB forest trail; cycle over into the next valley, 30 mins, ride the trail, 45 mins /lap, dine in the Royal Oak or Towy Bridge Inns and ride back to Owl Barn at Penygaer. Phew! Or put the bike in the car to get there.....
There are many other cycle and walking tracks through Crychan forest on the opposite side of our Bran valley, or ride/ walk out onto the hills of mid Wales or the Brecon Beacons, only 30 mins away.

Visit;
Lyn y Fan; is a delightful lake nestling in the cwm of Fan Fawr, the mountain in the view from the kitchen door; 35 mins in the car, then 40 mins walk to the lake. Magical with mystical stories about the Lady of the Lake! On to the top of Fan Fawr is a good hike, but what a that is Somerset you can see from there!

The area has fantastic roads for motorcyclists, and you will notice many of them visit the town for a cuppa on their travels in summer.
Golf; there's a nine hole course just beside the river Towy. 10 mins

Getting Around

It is best to arrive under your own steam by car, motorcycle (or even bike), although there is a train service to Llandovery which is on the Heart of Wales line, between Swansea (connects with mainline to London) and Shrewsbury.
Buses run to Brecon and Carmarthen from Llandovery.
There are several local taxi firms that would happily collect and return you to the farm.
It's a steady climb of around 500 feet in 3 miles to the farm from Llandovery, so keep a bit in reserve to get back if you are going out for a cycle ride!

-The driveway is narrow and is on an incline with a bend at the end so beware when driving at night . There are signs to guide you on your way.

Situated between the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Cambrian Mountains it is an ideal location to explore the beautiful Welsh countryside, whether on foot, bike, train or car. Seren Loft (Loft of Stars) holiday cottage is near the Heart of Wales Railway Line and only 5 mins walk from the halt station, Cynghordy - 4 trains a day in each direction.

Arranged in a coaching house fashion, the accommodation is all on one level on the first floor.

This spacious single storey ground floor property is adjoined to our main property and has a private entrance. The property has a twin bedroom, double bedroom with 32” smart TV and hairdryer, fitted kitchen which is fully equipped with saucepans, utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware, children's plates, cutlery and cups, cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, washing machine, tumble dryer and a fridge with a small freezer compartment, shower room with sink and toilet and a living/dining room with table and chairs, chairs and sofa, 32” smart TV, DVD player, DVDs, board games and books. We also provide picnic equipment such as blankets, picnic bag, sandwich boxes and flasks for days spent at the beach or exploring the surrounding area. It really is your home from home.

Y Fflat is heated by timed thermostatically controlled oil central heating. Y Fflat is equipped with free WiFi and Netflix.

Bed linen, towels, tea towels, dishcloths and washing up liquid are provided, however we do ask that you bring your own beach towels.

We provide a small welcome pack which contains milk, tea, coffee and sugar and some local treats. Larger welcome packs can be arranged at an additional cost should you wish, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

One/two small well behaved dog/s are permitted, however, should you leave the dogs in the property unattended they must be left in the kitchen where it is tiled and there will be a charge of £10 per dog for the week. (There are 2 dogs at the property however they are kennelled away from the property itself).

Should you require a travel cot, high chair and baby bath then these can be provided on request. The double bedroom can accommodate the travel cot but furniture will need to be rearranged. We can also provide you with a high quality put-u-up bed which will enable a fifth person to be accommodated.

You will have the use of a private garden which is located away from the main property where you can relax and have a BBQ and you can also use the large shared garden where there is plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. We have a vegetable garden where, depending on the season, you will be able to sample our home grown delights.

Check-in on the day of arrival is after 4.00pm and checkout on the day of departure is at 10.00am, this will give our cleaners ample time to thoroughly clean and prepare the property.

Free on street parking is available a minutes walk from Y Fflat.

The dog friendly Llansteffan Beach is just a 5 minute walk from Y Fflat, here you can enjoy long walks, fishing, swimming, picnics on the beach and sandcastle building or just relax with freshly cooked fish and chips from the chip van on the beach. There is a 'ferry' which runs at specified times of the year. Dogs are not permitted on the main section of the beach during peak season.

The Wales Coastal Path is within a 10 minute walk from Y Fflat in Scott's Bay.

Y Fflat is perfect for keen walkers, families, individuals and couples at all times of the year. We are pet friendly and accept one/two well behaved dogs. For those who want to eat out, the nearest pub/restaurant is a 1 minute walk from the property.

The village of Llansteffan has two pubs and restaurants, a beachside cafe, a local village shop and two art galleries. The Summer Fiesta is also an event not to be missed!

Situated in Carmarthenshire, close to the Pembrokeshire border, Y Fflat is in the perfect location to explore the whole of West and Mid Wales including Pembrokeshire and the Gower Peninsula, along with Caldey Island and the Dylan Thomas' Boathouse in Laugharne. Local attractions include Folly Farm, Oakwood, Manor Park, The Dinosaur Park and the Botanical Gardens to name a few!

NB: Even though we live on the property we do not impose on our guests. We are on hand should you need anything but when we have guests we let you carry on as if we are not here at all! There are 3 children here so there will be some day to day noise but we try to keep it to a minimum when the flat is occupied. Being a Victorian home the walls are sound proofed!

Large double bedroom in a cosy cottage with a super comfy bed and super fresh clean linen and towels provided and a full Welsh Breakfast of bacon sausage egg beans mushrooms and tomatoes included. The space
A traditional semi-detached cottage on the outskirts of the village of Pembrey in Carmarthenshire. The cottage is in an ideal location, being just a short walk to the village amenities, making it perfect for a fab holiday. Step through the sitting room and into the dining room which overlooks the rear garden. After dining, relax in the comfortable sitting room which has lovely views over the garden. The bathroom is on the ground floor plus a handy cloakroom two steps down from the ground floor hallway. The individually decorated bedrooms ensures a good night’s sleep before your next day’s activities. There is a charming private garden to the rear of the cottage where children can play games whilst you relax on the patio with a well-earned drink after great days out. With ample off road parking your cars are secure, and may well stay there all week. Explore this beautiful part of Wales, either on foot or on your bicycles. Take day trips to local sandy beaches, ride along the superb coastal cycle path or try some dry slope skiing. There are many castles in the area to visit, take a steam railway ride or maybe enjoy a day at the races at Ffos Las. A round of golf on nearby courses is an option for the more energetic. All in all, a superb location to visit

Quiet peaceful location, tucked away in beautiful countryside, with no sound pollution. Watch the sun set and on a clear night, stargaze from the garden. Your room overlooks the stunning fields and rolling hills. Beautiful walks in ancient woods on your doorstep. Conveniently located near Newcastle Emlyn (15 mins), Cardigan or Carmarthen (30 mins), 30mins from stunning beaches such as Mwnt and Poppit Sands, and there's plenty more fabulous sights to see.
