With the Purple Juniper as your home base in Durango, you will be able to park your car and walk everywhere in town. Walk four blocks and arrive at the heart of downtown with its restaurants, cafes, shops and the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

The Purple Juniper is an intimate and inviting half-duplex facing a quiet, sunny neighborhood street. It is cozy with an open floor plan and updated bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen and living room are connected by a granite island with three seats. Additional dining seating in warmer months is a four-seat table on the front deck. The bedrooms have a queen bed in one room and two twins in the second room. All beds are solid, plush and comfortable. A good night's sleep is key! Evaporative cooling in the Summer additionally provides for restful nights.

In addition to Main Avenue and downtown, walk several blocks to the Nature Trail and Sky Steps. The neighborhood is pedestrian and dog-friendly, and the block on which the Purple Juniper resides is especially quiet and peaceful.

Guests are welcome to bring two pups, provided they stay off of furniture and aren't big barkers. No cats (sorry). Note that immediately after booking, you will receive a brief rental agreement to review and sign with basic items such as no parties or events and pet authorization if applicable.

Two things to consider in deciding whether this home is ideal for your family. First, it is a cozy space with 650 SF total. Second, the Purple Juniper does not have a yard. The other half of the duplex, which is a monthly rental, has a yard, but it is dedicated to that other other half. Likewise, the Purple Juniper has dedicated use of the front deck. This allows for privacy and ease for each of the homes. It means as well, however, that staying at the Purple Juniper with pups involves taking them out for walks, not an unpleasant task in the pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, but worth considering.

Cozy little house on several acres of flat ground just minutes from town. Easy access to this nicely maintained property located on a paved road. The property is well kept with beautiful views off the bluff at the back of the property. It is an attractive and relaxing setting with convenient access to the many attractions of the Durango area.

The house is about 1300 sq. ft. and has two bedrooms with and two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms is connected to the master bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and the 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed. There is a nice hide-a-bed in the living room that will allow space for up to 6 people.

There is a full kitchen and dining room and living room that is fully equipped with stove, microwave, dishwasher. There are dishes and pots and pans and spices, etc.

Also a back deck and front porch that are great for just enjoying the great outdoors that Colorado has to offer!

Also, there is the possibility to play pickle ball on the property. It’s not set up all the time, but if you just let us know you are interested we can set it up for you!

The owners live on the property part-time in a separate apartment that is detached from the main house. They often stay off the property while guests are there but will be available if you should need anything.

The beds were the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The kitchen was well stocked with many cooking appliances, bowls, silverware, cups, etc! The game closet was a treasure trove of fun! The smell of the pine trees was incredible! The front porch swing was the cherry on top! I also REALLY appreciated the Bath and Body Works hand soap and lotion! I have never had that in a VRBO. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they had wifi available for us. Check-in and communication were great and easy! Both Garys were very nice and helpful. We can't wait to go back!"

This historic stone building was the Salvation Army building that was built in 1911. It is above my law office and was our New York style penthouse living quarters when a complete rebuild was done in 2009. It overlooks Main Avenue right next to Olde Tymers Cafe, and is two doors south from Carvers in Downtown Durango. It is a five star accommodation with an enclosed and heated garage for parking. In my opinion it is the most beautiful penthouse apartment in downtown Durango. The VRBO tenants confirm this description. It has first class amenities including high-end kitchen appliances, beautiful furnishings, Master bath with free standing soaker tub, steam shower, courtyard, and a balcony. It has double paned windows which allows for great insulation and low noise. My wife and I only want to rent to 2 adults, We want to keep the unit in beautiful condition, we only allow 2 persons to sleep in the unit. No large or loud parties. Although there is a small second bedroom, it is not okay for others to sleep there. If not approved by owners, a penalty fee will be added to your stay. The location is amazing, walk out your front door to great restaurants, bars and other amenities. It will not disappoint you. We rarely allow adult children to stay, and have recently made the decision to not allow young children. The place is perfect for two adults,,,,and the cleaning is so much more difficult when kids stay, as well as their impact on the space. This penthouse and its garage has another VRBO (212471) for additional accommodations for your additional guests (1BR luxury apartment above the garage) which can also be rented along with this unit.

This one-bedroom luxury apartment was built in 2004 and is above a garage which is adjacent to a 1911 historic building on Main Street in the central downtown of Durango, Colorado. The apartment was completely remodeled in the Summer of 2017. The apartment is beautifully furnished and has a 32 inch Sony flat screen with all channels of satellite on DirecTV streaming with apple tv. The linens are exquisite, as are all the other amenities. Although, there are stairs up to the apartment, it is a romantic and secluded space which travelers will return to year after year. I am sorry but we don't rent with small children, and rarely (if approved first) to adult children, because of their impact on the space and the significant deep cleaning which results from their impact.

Durango is one of the greatest towns in America, and it has numerous recreational activity and wonderful people. The restaurants and downtown activity are just outside your door. The apartment is located in the downtown district. There is a parking space off of Main Street for your exclusive use only one-half block from your VRBO and directly across from Carvers Brewing and restaurant in a well lit parking lot. Our 1,500 sq ft, 2 bedroom (queen beds), 2 bath, custom home was built in 2007 and offers the most privacy and seclusion of any property near Purgatory Ski Area as it sits on 132 acres, yet is less than 2 miles from the ski resort, and 25 miles from downtown Durango.

The gourmet kitchen has stainless steel appliances. The main living space and master bedroom feature 55 inch flat screen TV's with 5.1 surround sound. The leather couch in the main living space converts to an incredibly comfortable and supportive queen bed. The large covered porch is a great place for lounging and watching the sun disappear over the mountains in the evening. The house is surrounded front and back with Colorado Rocky Mountain Wildflowers.

The property boarders the Weminuche National Forest to the North and East, which is the largest and most unused wilderness area in North America. There are numerous lakes and ponds on the property, and a road to higher elevations where the views of the surrounding mountains and lakes are spectacular.

- "We really enjoyed our stay here. My husband, 4-year-old, 1-year-old, and myself stayed for several nights while we were in Durango for a car club rally. The convenience of being in historic downtown was so nice. The property is nice, and the amenities were perfect for us. The refrigerator was huge; bring reusable ice packs if you are cooler or ice people. The only piece that we found to be a challenge was parking on the street versus on the property. This was a consideration for us ONLY because of the amount of gear our small children require us to lug back and forth each day. Without their things, this would be a non-issue. Otherwise, this property was lovely for our family. We even got to meet June, the lovely and gentle French Bulldog resident who made our kiddos squeal with delight each time she would visit. Purgatory Ski area is a 25 mile beautiful drive . Chapman Hill is a small in-town ski area just 3 mins away . There is cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling and sleigh rides available close by. We normally have great skiing conditions and sunny weather without long lines of some of the more famous ski areas. Purgatory is fun in the winter for snow activities but summer brings as much fun with scenic rides on the ski lifts, slide down the mountain, a roller coaster ride, zip lining, and other fun actives that the kiddos always love.

RELAXING ON THE DECK (or living/dining area) of our guesthouse with the STUNNING VIEWS of the Animas Valley and surrounding mountains, you'll know you've picked the right home for your Durango vacation. This home is located within a 6 minute drive of the historical downtown area. If you enjoy walking or biking, the Animas River path runs along the river for close to 9 miles one way and begins just down the road a mile. The home sits within walking distance to a great sports club and the Durango Recreation Center is a 3 minute drive. Also within walking distance is two bakeries, a Sushi restaurant, a Mexican cafe-type place and a dominoes pizza. One of our 4 grocery stores in town is down the road one mile with plenty of restaurants between the store on the way to historic downtown Durango.

This home's main floor has an open living area that includes living area, dining areaand kitchen with a deck and all overlooks our beautiful Animas River Valley and its surrounding mountains. There is a queen bed upstairs in this area also and a full bath and laundry room also on this floor. The home is nicely furnished with your comfort in mind and all the conveniences of home. The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils for your culinary needs. On the ground level there is a king bed in the master and we've' added two twins to what was suppose to be an office when it was built. There is a full bath between these two rooms. There is a garage and a carport attached to this home.

Known for our 300 days of blue sky, the weather in the area is perfect not only for winter sports, but in the spring, summer and fall for hiking, biking, rock climbing, golf, horseback riding, river rafting and riding the historical Durango Silverton narrow gauge train. Fly fishing is great in the Animas River that runs through the town and valley, but there is also fishing in many lakes and other rivers close by. There are excellent restaurants and great shopping with wonderful art galleries in the city.

Just 45 minutes away, you can be at the entrance to Mesa Verde, the largest Indian Cliff Dwellings found so far in the world I believe. Listed by the United Nations as a world cultural center, this is a site people from around the world come to see. In the summer, Mesa Verde guides will take guests on a walking tour into some of the ruins (must have a guide so will need a reservation) but there is a loop drive that is well marked for people to see the ruins from the top without walking a lot which most can also be seen from a wheelchair. No reservations so far for this is required but always check before going. Our downtown Visitor center can answer many questions and may have more accurate information for all activities in and around our spectacular area.

People also come from all over the world to ride the Durango/Silverton Narrow gauge train. This train leaves the downtown train station and takes its' passengers through the Animas Valley to Cascade Canyon and then on to Silverton, the old mining town. Jeep tours can be taken from there or Durango, by the way if planned ahead.

Many who visit our area like to drive 'the loop' (not so much in the winter) where the highway goes over several mountain passes, including what is called the million dollar highway, to Silverton, Quray and Telluride.

We'll be happy to share info of different hikes and biking trails you might wish to take if you are here in spring, summer and fall.

Check out our 5 star reviews. We know from experience and our past guests that you will most likely want to stay longer than you plan. Seems there is never enough time to do all there is do here in the summer for sure. We have guests who book every summer and some repeat customers stay for as long as a month. After September, we have excellent rates if guests want to book for the entire winter or for a few months after New Years. We might consider a well-behaved and trained small dog for month to month. Because too many guests are allergic to cats we don't accept cats.

Please note cancellation policy: We've only had a couple of cancellations because of family emergencies. We've been able to rebook each time so we returned their money.There is no guarantee though w/out insurance. We are only one property so if someone cancels close to their arrival time, we might not be able to fill the space since most people plan their vacations to Durango pretty far in advance.

Where have you ever stayed that had grapefruit spoons! Carol and Larry are excellent hosts and the home is comfortable for sleeping, dining, grilling on the deck, and sharing time in the living room or around the TV. We enjoyed every minute and didn't even use half of the amenities provided. The most grand feature has to be the beautiful view of snow-capped mountains and verdant valley and lake below. It is quiet and peaceful at night with stars above and on our last morning we awoke to find two mule deer on Carol and Larry's side yard laying down resting for an hour and rolling over and scratching their backs in the grass. Our ranch is located in the Animas Valley approx. twelve miles south of Durango. It has great views of the river valley from the apartment deck. Enjoy the peace and quiet from this wonderful apartment. Fishing and road biking can be done right out the front door, or just relax on the deck and take it all in!

• The driveway is private, so the only traffic you’ll see is your own or possibly our tractor.

The guesthouse is located above our secondary garage and requires climbing a flight of stairs. Please consider this when booking, as we are unable to accommodate guests with mobility challenges. The garage is rarely used (primarily for storage), and the guesthouse has a completely separate, private entrance.

For entertainment, there are televisions in the great room, loft, and both bedrooms. Games and movies are provided for lazy days. Bar with a full fridge gives you a dedicated space to store and prepare your libations.

The space
The location is perfect! We are 8 miles north of Durango, off the main highway, and off of a quiet country road. There is a gourmet grocery store, gas station, hot springs and a cute, little breakfast and lunch restaurant within a couple minutes. Purgatory Ski Resort is just 15 minutes north. The neighborhood is located down a quiet dirt lane. I love the natural beauty surrounding my house and the area in which we live! It's quiet and dark at night - a great location for star gazing, yet close to town. My simple, happy home is filled with color and cheer!

We are a chemical free /fragrance free, organic home. Our soaps, shampoos, detergents, and cleaning products are natural and chemical free. We may diffuse essential oils from time to time but otherwise are fragrance free. We appreciate if you refrain from spraying any chemical perfumes or colognes in any private or shared spaces.

Currently Dennis is in a tinyhome on the property and Aja (our daughter who will be 7 summer of 2025 is there half the time). They may occasionally come in the house - but otherwise you'll either have the house to yourself or be sharing the space with other guests.

Our driveway is nicely laid dirt/ gravel and only a few hundred feet of it. There are no issues accessing it in heavy rains or snow. Not an issue with any cars/sedans. We only drive sedans and non-winter specific vehicles. You're good to go! Motorcycle friendly as well.

Easy access to town from CR 550, 20 minutes from downtown on the edge of Sunnyside mesa with a spectacular view of the La Plata Mountains. This space is aroma-fragrance free supplied with all the ecological and economical essentials. The premises are allowed to grow wild and fed from compost. This is a house with up to 3 bedrooms listed on airbnb. This room does potentially share a bathroom with another guest. The water at the house is wonderful well water - it doesn't smell, and tastes GREAT!

The space
Your rental is part of a larger house which is often used by the owner, friends, family, or other vacation renters. It has a private outdoor entrance and the interior door remains locked for privacy and security.

The property eschews quiet and calm vibes. Guests should be relatively quiet and considerate of other guests staying in the neighboring room as well as tenants living in other dwellings on the property.

Our dog, Fancy Snuffles, lives outdoors on the property and is very sociable. She is very friendly, not aggressive, does well with children, and will likely come say hello. Please do not let her in the house

Guest access
Guests have exclusive access to a bedroom and bathroom with an exterior entry. Guests have shared access to the hot tub. At times, access to a beautiful kitchen and livingroom area may (not guaranteed) be available upon request for additional cost. A mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig as well as compostable plates, bowls, and silverware are provided.

Other things to note
The shower takes a while to warm up and isn't particularly hot. During late fall and winter the water is lukewarm. Fortunately you have access to a hot tub!

Custom passive solar home on five acres. Quiet rural neighborhood with wonderful sunrises and sunsets, and amazing moon rises as well! Approximately 15 mins south of Durango and almost equal distance between Purgatory & Wolf Creek Ski Resorts, it's the perfect place to relax after a day experiencing the many adventures Durango has to offer.

I allow pets on a pre-approval basis. There is a $15 base pet fee. Stays longer than 2 days, will incur an additional pet fee. I also have two cats.

The space
Cozy eclectic home, with bright natural light and colorful accents throughout. Come stay for a night or many and make yourself feel at home. The Sleep Number bed developed a small leak, so I replaced it with a queen size BeautyRest mattress (June 2021).

The guest bedroom is adjacent to the guest bath. Guests are free to enjoy the living room, great room sitting area, and kitchen.

I am happy to interact and talk to you about the area and make suggestions for adventures and restaurants. However, if you prefer to keep to yourself, that is just fine.

Other things to note
Wifi is through my cell phone, so if i'm not there you will have to use your own phone. The home stays cool in the summer with fresh air breezes and is primarily heated by the sun in the winter. Bedroom, bathroom, and living room also have electric baseboard heat when needed. I choose not to live with a TV connection, but there are DVDs if you would like to borrow one to watch on your laptop.

This cute studio apartment, located 10 minutes north of Durango in the peaceful Chapman Lake Valley, is perfect for a couple or small family.

The apartment is fully furnished with a bedroom, loft, full bathroom, large closet, and kitchen. A queen bed is located in a cozy room separated from the living area. A ladder accesses a loft with full mattress. Coffee maker, pots and pans, toaster, stove, knives, utensils, dishes, table, and four chairs equip the kitchen. Quiet and peaceful location!

The space
The studio apartment has a private entrance from the main house. Step outside and have incredible views of nearby cliffs and Animas Mountain. Star gazing is incredible as there are no street lights in any direction! Amazing trail access in every direction: less than one mile to the Falls Creek trails; less than 2 miles to the Colorado Trail and Animas Mountain trails. Turtle Lake bouldering area is a short walk away. Deer, variety of birds, and other wildlife frequent the area.

Other things to note
Four-wheel drive, chains, or snow tires are necessary to get to the house during the winter.

The space comfortably accommodates two adults. We welcome small families as well upon approval.

Three-night minimum stay is required. Pets are not allowed but may be approved upon request.
