When we arrived we noticed lots of things we had to email about. - bedroom blind had fallen down and was on the bed. -Kitchen blind was on the kitchen worktop. -Bath panel was pushed in. - toilet Roll holder was hanging off. - no light bulb in the main bedroom. - big patch of mold or burn behind one of the twin beds. - no microwave like stated in the description. - one bath towel for 2 children. The general cleanliness of the property was poor. Very dusty, hairs all in the bathroom, stale food in the sofa. We contact the owners and just got a thanks for letting them know email. We asked if Anything would be done during our stay about the bedroom blind, bedroom light and the towel situation, also If there was a hoover so we could clean we never received a reply. It’s a shame as the location is beautiful, property could be nice with a good clean and TLC. However having to try and clean a property when you arrive and having the kids wake at the crack of dawn everyday as no blind wasn’t ideal. Owners were quick to reply about what needed doing before we left but no interest resolving issues. "

Saltwater is 2 bedroom modern property spread over three floors. It has been newly decorated and furnished. It is situated in the pretty Georgian village of Shaldon close to beaches and a river.

The property features 2 beautifully presented bedrooms on the top floor - a double bedroom and a bunk bedroom (please note bunk beds suited to under 12 years). You’ll also find a modern shower room with toilet and sink here. The first floor accommodates the lounge with a fold down dining table seating up to 4 and a flat screen TV (complete with Amazon Prime and catch up TV), well equipped kitchen and access out to a sunny courtyard where alfresco dining can be enjoyed at the 4 seater patio table. In the unlikely event you run out of things to see and do in Shaldon then the Victorian Seaside resort of Teignmouth is a short ferry ride away (or you can drive there in 5 minutes). Teignmouth offers additional places to visit including the Grand Pier, a large play park and a dinosaur themed crazy golf course. There are also lots of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes here plus the local train station links you to nearby Newton Abbot, Torquay and Exeter and beyond.

This is a Characterful Cottage with plenty of traditional features alongside modern touches. The cottage is in central shaldon and is only a 3 minute walk from the high street and beach.

The Space:
The renovated cottage is ideal for couples or families. The downstairs is the perfect social space for your time in Shaldon. With a cosy living room and log burning fire, guests can enjoy an evening in after a busy or relaxing day at the beach. A fully equipped kitchen with all modern appliances allows our guests to cook in if they do not wish to go out.

Stairs lead up to the first floor where you will find the bedrooms and bathroom, with a brand new EMMA mattress in the primary bedroom. It is a king size bed, and another bedroom with either a super king bed which you can convert to twin beds if needed. Please note that the bed will be made into a superking double unless we are told you would like it split.

There is a small patio at the back of the property with table and chairs for you to sit and enjoy a coffee in the sun.

Location wise it was great, close to all amenities, cafes etc. and close to the Botanical Gardens. The only thing I would say is that if travelling with elderly people, the staircase might be a bit awkward as some of the steps are narrow in places and the handrail is made of rope so isn't as sturdy as a fixed handrail...but don't let that put you off. - "We had a fabulous relaxing stay at this lovely character property in Shaldon. It was very clean with a well equipped kitchen and a nice dining room and pleasant sitting room. The bedrooms were also clean with comfortable beds. The bathroom was family sized with a spacious hot shower and a bath as well. There are stairs but there are stairs gates if you have children. There is a lot to do in the area which is very dog friendly. Many pubs and restaurants welcome dogs. We visited the beaches in Shaldon (through smugglers tunnel), Dawlish and Dawlish Warren (lovely wide long sandy beach). The beaches are very impressive with lots of coloured and tumbled rocks and shells to find. We really enjoyed the walk to magnificent Haytor Rocks on Dartmoor and the stroll by the quarry pools which were very picturesque. Buckhurst Abbey was interesting and we enjoyed some tea and scones after. Lots of places to eat and drink. Masses of pubs to stop at too. Highly recomended by us!"

- "Sunnyside House is a spacious oasis at the end of a lane, walk everywhere in Shaldon! Village shop, butcher (with fresh local veg too) and bakery were right nearby. Easy parking in front of house and a ground floor bed/bath for our elder relatives. Three bedrooms had choice of configuring beds twin or king! Big well-stocked kitchen, nearby shops and roomy Bosch dishwasher made it fun to cook meals in-house. Huge laundry room with extra fridge/freezer was a useful surprise. Walking in Shaldon is a dream. Gently sloped/level down to the beach, pubs and restaurants, but if you also like hill walking, there is a stairway tucked near the shops that leads up to the (free) Botanical Garden. Or climb the street past the Ness to check out the Smugglers' Tunnel and find the secret beach. We want to return to this comfy house - to try more pubs and restaurants, and take the little ferry to explore Teignmouth across the water. What a great experience!"

It’s situated in a beautiful regency house with stunning river views.
The house is located in the centre of the attractive seaside village of Shaldon on the River Teign, which is used for swimming and water sports. The village boasts many pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops. The Botanical Gardens and Zoo are added attractions

The space
The space is open plan very light and airy with spectacular views across the estuary and out to sea. It’s quiet and secluded despite being in the heart of the village. There isn’t private access to the loft. Access is through the front door of the main house, then up the stairs to the main landing.

The nautical banister rail at the top of the stairs is made from old oars. The space has a wooden floor and the large beams running at intervals along the room are attractive but make for limited head room in places. This space is not ideal for tall people but on the whole guests have adapted well to negotiating the beams, especially for a short stay.

There is a sitting area with books on local attractions and a small dining room table and chairs. The space also provides fitted cupboards for storage and hanging clothes. There is instant hot water and central heating as well as an elecltric heater.

The kitchenette has a toaster, kettle, induction hob, microwave and fridge. Coffee and tea and sugar along with kitchen utensils, saucepans and crockery, washing up bowl plus tea towels, are provided. There is a small working surface to prepare food.
The Clipper Cafe across the road provides excellent homemade takeaway meals so that you can eat on the premises if you require.

Bed linen , towels, shampoo and hairdryer also supplied.

There a restricted parking in the village during the summer months.
There is always plenty of parking in the Ness car park for £4 a day.

Other things to note
There are a lot of local attractions. The apartment is only a few yards from the river beach and the Clipper Cafe is opposite. Highly acclaimed, it offers good food and provides an outside sitting area on the waterfront.
The Ferryboat Inn is up the road and also has a beer garden on the river. There are a good selection of shops in the village and an excellent bakery.

The sea is only several meters from the house. A short walk around the headland takes you to the sea, excellent for swimming and where Ness Beach is situated. This links to the South West Coastal path which provides walking through this area of outstanding natural beauty.

At low tide one can walk to the centre of the river. The area is called Salty where one can collect cockles and mussels. Water sports include boat hire and paddle boarding with lessons. There is a ferry that runs every 15 mins from Shaldon to the pretty seaside resort and working port of Teignmouth, which is on the other side of the river.

My studio which is an annexe to the house is not part of the listing, but guests are welcome to visit and browse.

The space
Guests have their own room, with a kingsize bed. Couples and single visitors will find it very comfortable. The bedroom has its own lovely view. They will also have a shower room/toilet for their sole use.
Upstairs they will find a big open plan shared area where the living room and kitchen diner is located. The kitchen is available for making tea and coffee and heating up food.

Due to Covid this upstairs space may be restricted and l may request face masks to be worn.
I would that guests remove shoes before entering the property.

Cook's Cottage is a charming, quirky and unique destination, 200 yards from the sea in the picturesque village of Shaldon. Both dog and children friendly, it is tastefully decorated and fully equipped throughout, with separate kitchen, dining room and lounge as well as 2 bedrooms. The woodburner in the lounge is a welcome addition on chillier days. Charming outside space perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. Lots of local facilities and shops within walking distance.

Lovingly restored throughout, this characterful cottage offers a unique and cosy base from which to enjoy the wonderful charms of Shaldon.

Decorated throughout in an interesting range of Farrow & Ball colours, the cottage combines original features such as Bakelite light switches and freestanding Victorian radiators whilst providing modern day comfort.

The front entrance steps lead into the ground floor hallway complete with old mariner’s lamp overhead. Guests can sit back and relax in the cosy living room. Fitted with upcycled parquet flooring and benefiting from a comfortable sofa, mismatched armchairs and squishy cushions, Sky digital flat screen TV with DVD player, pretty window seat, handmade coffee table, and cosy lighting, the room provides all the comforts of home. There is a newly installed woodburner, so guests can snuggle down and watch the flames dance when it is cold and wet outside, a starter pack of logs, kindling and firelighters will be made available for you. The cottage is also conveniently equipped with free Wi-Fi access, a Bose wifi speaker and a selection of books, DVDs and old fashioned board games.

The separate dining room is ideally suited for gatherings of up to six, where you can enjoy family meals or games in the evening (or during the inevitable damp day)

To the rear of the cottage, a fitted kitchen enables you to rustle up tasty homemade meals. Featuring a ceramic sink, cooker hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle, fridge freezer, washing machine, toaster and a full range of crockery and quality cooking equipment; everything you could need.

A stable door from the kitchen leads out to the walled courtyard, with a table & 6 chairs set underneath pretty ‘fairground’ festoon lights; a place to enjoy memorable summer evenings and ambient alfresco dining. A handy side gated passage leads from the front of the property directly into the courtyard, perfect for dropping off sandy beach paraphernalia to the back door without the hassle of carrying it through the cottage. There is sufficient space for you to store your bicycles or paddle-boards safely.

From the entrance hall, a steep staircase - covered with an original Victorian hemp runner and with a double hand rail - leads to the quirky tranquillity of the first floor. You will find two spacious bedrooms and a contemporary bathroom, meaning the upstairs offers a practical layout to suit either couples holidaying together or adults with children.

The master bedroom offers a comfortable space in which to unwind. The king size bed sits on weathered floorboards and is dressed in quality bed linen. Enjoy a good night’s sleep and well deserved lie-in, further enhanced by stylish blackout blinds throughout.
The second bedroom also has a unique identity with a striking bespoke driftwood headboard, and a plump window seat. The zip & link king size bed converts to two singles if required.

The smart ‘metro’ tiled bathroom features a handcrafted copper towel rail and industrial steel porthole mirror. Old Pepsi crates used as shelves add an interesting touch to the sleek fitted bath tub & shower, WC and wash basin.

Please be aware that the outside steps and steep stairs may provide an element of challenge for the very young or those with mobility issues.

Probably the best views of Shaldon from the double aspect windows of the living room. Watch the boats come in and out of the harbour, the constantly changing panarama of sand, sea and sky. Shaldon is a pretty Devon fishing village with loads of character and plenty to offer holidaymakers. It overlooks the River Teign, and there are regular ferries that cross the River to Teignmouth, which is said to be the oldest passenger ferry in England. The River is a favourite spot for fishing, sailing and paddle boarding with equipment hire available locally for those who need it. Shaldon Beach and Ness Cove are both within a mile of the apartment, with good conditions for swimming.
Ignore the car for a week and enjoy everything needed within walking distance. If you do feel like exploring more of Devon, you will find the English Riviera and famous beaches such as Paignton and Torquay less than half an hour away.
Local attractions include Paignton Zoo, Dinosaur World, Torre Abbey and The Babaccombe Cliff Railway which takes visitors to and from Oddicombe Beach. Kent’s Cavern prehistoric caves are ideal for keeping the kids happily amused in any weather,
Walking is a delight, not only along the coastline but also throughout the gorgeous countryside. Dartmoor National Park is not very far away and providing even more opportunities for fun and adventure. Including climbers and mountain bikers. You certainly won’t struggle to find things to do when you stay - no matter what time of year you visit, your age or your interests.

The house offers a large lounge and dining area, leading to a full sized kitchen, fitted with a dishwasher and washing machine. Just off the dining area is a peaceful, enclosed patio area with seating for 4.

There’s a main bathroom upstairs, and a downstairs toilet, in addition to an ensuite.

There is also a small enclosed back yard (which can be locked up) suitable for storing paddle boards etc. The garage ( suitable for medium sized cars ( or it can be used for an estate car with the garage door left open) , is located behind the house. There is also nearby unlimited off road parking, and a car park 2 mins walk from the house.

Parking...there is a 1 hour no return right outside, if you can get in, which is free after 6pm. A short stay car park is a few streets away, which is also free after 6pm. At the top of Shaldon is a long stay car park, which you can pay as you go or for a full week on the Teignbridge Website.

Sailmaker's Cottage is a beautiful dog-friendly self-catering holiday cottage, situated in the seaside village of Shaldon, South Devon, has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard and is situated in a prime location close to the beach and in the heart of the village. The property benefits from a beautiful enclosed courtyard with plants, a coffee table and chairs.
Ground floor: The living area has seating for four and a wall-mounted TV with Freeview. The well-equipped kitchen has a ceramic hob and electric oven/ grill, a microwave, toaster, kettle, ceramic sink/drainer, a washing machine and under worktop fridge with an ice compartment, coffee maker, iron and board. The window overlooking the courtyard has a window seat. Bedroom 1: Double has a window through to Arch Street and a TV with Freeview.
First floor: The sleeping area has a double bed and double sofa, TV with Freeview and storage units. The window overlooks Middle Street. The good sized bathroom- bath with shower over it and mixer taps, WC and sink. Heated chrome towel rail.
Sailmaker’s Cottage is a perfect haven to relax and an ideal holiday location for exploring the unspoilt beauty of the local area and the many attractions of South Devon. Please note: One dog is welcome with the owner’s consent.

The well-equipped modern built-in kitchen has a Bosch induction hob and oven, microwave oven, Fridge/Freezer, kettle, toaster and a circular dining table with 4 chairs. The back door leads to a narrow outside space, perfect for storing paddle boards and a gate to the ally. Central heating is available for cooler months.

Explore the village: Take a stroll around Shaldon's narrow streets and alleyways, lined with colourful cottages, shops, pubs and restaurants.
Visit the beach: Shaldon has a lovely beach, known as Ness Cove, which is accessible via a smugglers’ tunnel through the cliffs. There are also several other beaches nearby, including Teignmouth Beach.
Go crabbing: The Shaldon Wildlife Trust organises crabbing sessions for children, a fun activity to do at the nearby rock pools.
Visit Shaldon Zoo: The Shaldon Wildlife Trust is a small zoo that focuses on the conservation of rare and endangered species, including primates, birds, and reptiles.
Take a walk on the South West Coast Path: Shaldon is located on the South West Coast Path, a long-distance walking trail that offers stunning views of the Devon coastline.
Visit the Homeyards Botanical Gardens: The Botanical Gardens are located on a steep hillside overlooking the village and offer beautiful views of the estuary.

Annual Events:
Festival of Music (July): This is a week-long festival of classical and
contemporary music that takes place in various venues around the
village. The festival features performances by both local and
international artists, and there are usually workshops and masterclasses
for aspiring musicians.
Water Carnival (early August): This is a day-long event that celebrates
the village's maritime history and community spirit. The carnival
features a long colourful procession of decorated boats, as well as a
variety of activities and entertainment on land, such as live music,
stalls and children's games.
Regatta week (late August): This is a week-long festival of water and
land-based activities that takes place in and around Shaldon. The events
include sailing races, sandcastle competitions, a grand procession, a
fun run and a spectacular fireworks display over the river.
