- "Rented Riverwatch for an end of summer getaway for our family of 4. Was the perfect size for our family. The bedrooms were beautiful and cozy, the entire houses decor was perfect. We loved walking down to the dock to watch the sunset. It is a bit away from the center of things, but it was only about a 10 minute drive into town. The other thing was that I assumed Being on the water there would be a small beach nearby but there is no entry point to the water on that street. Had a bit of an issue getting into the property which was quickly addressed but would be helpful to add the lock instructions to the welcome email. We had a wonderful time exploring the area and can’t wait to return!!"

Kayak rentals are in town Boothbay Harbor a short drive away at Tidal Transit Kayak rentals.

Peaceful, quiet, friendly lake community, shared sandy beach with numerous kayaks and paddle boards to borrow from the beach. Deck, dock and float located at the cottage as well, where we enjoyed reading books and watching the loons. We were quite comfortable and very close to Boothbay Harbor as well as the Botanical Gardens. The house was very clean, new, and the owners have thought of many details to make their guests' trip wonderful. It was stocked with many things that homeowners of rentals might not think of, such as extra paper towels, spices, condiments, a hamper, plenty of towels (so guests don't need to do laundry daily), nightlights (which my kids appreciated), sandwich bags (helpful for a picnic), and more! They also had extra eggs from chickens at their own home and left us a dozen, which we used to make egg salad sandwiches for the road. There were a few games and corn hole, which we enjoyed as well. The property is close to everything but located in a private, quiet area, which we always look for to have some quiet down time. Weston's communication was excellent and he also responded right away when I had a question. Also, the owners have made thoughtful decisions that maximize the usage of the space. For instance, the coffee table converts into an elevated table for dining. The mirror in the bathroom is also a cabinet, providing storage space. We highly recommend this property and will likely be back ourselves!"

- "For a week in July 2023, we enjoyed a family reunion at this beautiful coastal home in a private, wooded setting. Our family consists of five different family units, including two older adults, our four grown children and their spouses, and three grandchildren, including an 8-year-old, 2-year-old, and a 9-month old baby. There was plenty of room to spend time together as well as ample private space for each family. The water view is lovely, and the house itself is not only roomy but also includes numerous amenities and recreational opportunities that the owners generously share with guests. These include a fully equipped and spacious kitchen, an amazing master suite, three full bathrooms, a large TV with theater seats, and a fireplace. The bedrooms are spacious, with large and comfortable beds and two built-in bunk areas for the kids. Outside, there is a large deck with an extendible awning, seating, and big family table, plus a propane pizza oven and grill. In the basement is a rec room with a bar and stools, a classic popcorn machine (supplied with popcorn kits), a sauna, pool table, and air hockey. Outside are a fire pit with plenty of chairs, a hot tub, plus multiple kayaks and a paddle board with life jackets. Just a one- or two-minute stroll away is a small beach that offers a swimming dock, a place to launch kayaks, a wading area, and rocks to climb on. We were all quite blown away by this spacious and welcoming home."

Lots of area rugs so just watch your step. Bring your own kayak, paddle board or canoe. There is space to store it under the deck. Big front yard to play yard games if you bring those too. - "Host was very helpful once Evolve got her contact info to us. Linda was very accommodating. I would suggest since we pay a high usage and cleaning fee, that guests are NOT asked to take trash to the transfer station. That was unreasonable. Also most rentals we have been in have stopped asking guests to strip the beds. This is still on hosts list of things to do before we left."

Enjoy uninterrupted quiet on the Maine coast in our light-filled waterfront cabin. Just 5 minutes from lovely Boothbay Harbor for kayaking, sailing, hiking, seafood tasting, you name it! Or just relax at the cabin in a stunning natural setting.

The space
Enjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this sweet, rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this.

The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with a double bed mattress, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed flush toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bathtub. There is no oven, so cooking is done on a two-burner gas hotplate. There is high-speed internet but no telephone connection. Two portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting.

The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate.

The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin.

The owners of the cabin live on the adjacent property so any questions or concerns can be immediately addressed.

Please note that there is no sink in the bathroom so teeth brushing and shaving takes place in the kitchen sink or over the tub.

The three bedroom part of the house is entered at the top of the driveway where it has its own parking spaces and totally separate from the rental unit in the basement.

The space
The cabin, built by my father in 1985, is hand-made from logs harvested on site. In this tiny home, the loft offers 1 double futon on an elevated frame, and a couch downstairs that opens to a bed. The cabin has a private and quiet 180 degree view from a peninsula overlooking Pleasant Cove. High tide provides refreshing swimming (we have a solar shower, but washing up in the cove is exhilarating) and canoeing (one two-seater is included). At low tide try, clam digging and bird watching.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the cooking utensils you'll need for your visit. Just need to bring your favorite food and ice to put in our cooler. (Hannaford's grocery store is about 7 minutes away).

The old fashioned outhouse is located ten steps from the front door and comes equipped with TP, paper towels, and hand sanitizing gel.

Guest access
The parcel is over four acres of forest. Lots of trails and plenty of space to explore means privacy and room to roam. Park two cars near the cabin and more at top of hill for visitors.

Water is provided for drinking/cooking. The water from the sink when working ) isn't potable, but fine for cleaning and hand washing purposes.

Access your room through a private outside entrance shared by the three rooms. Park in the back and facing the building you will enter the grey building through the right hand door. The door has a blue canopy over it with two granite post and flower beds on both sides of the walkway.
Once inside, Solitude is the first room on the right identified by the door sign. You will be given a door code by text once your room is cleaned and ready for your arrival.

Our newly renovated cabin stands on 10 acres of Maine woodland but is only 3 miles to Boothbay Harbor.
The cabin has a full kitchen, living-dining room, bathroom, and two bedrooms both with closets. One has a queen-sized bed, the second two twin. The kitchen is equipped with many amenities including a dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, full fridge and oven with cooktop.
There is also a full-sized washing machine and dryer, a newly added HVAC system, high speed internet and tons of parking.

Simple, old fashion cottage built by neighbor's grandfather in 1905. Cozy interior, screened porch, private back yard. 3 mi to Boothbay Botanical Garden & Knickerbocker Lake, for fresh water swimming. The space
The cottage is cozy. Kitchen/living/dining space are open. The screened porch is sweet and gets beautiful morning light. 2 bedrooms, one queen, and one twin. Not a speck of insulation in the place, so not a lot of sound privacy. When it rains, you really experience it!
Table on porch as well as inside and in the back yard, for eating. Also, there are 2 adult bicycles - one with an easily adjusted seat. (I'm 5'8")
In the cooler months please be familiar with running a woodstove.
You provide your own sheets and towels, including beach towels (please state your understanding of this in your request to rent) as well as coffee, olive oil and paper towels. There are spices and condiments and plenty of teas.
This is a cottage that I live in part-time, so the rentals are short term, and I will have personal belongings there. I am a gardener, so there's watering you need to be willing to do when there's no rain.
Because the cottage is cozy and not really child proof, I keep the limit to 2 people, unless the 3rd is an infant or child not yet walking! .... Thank you!

The entire cottage is yours for your stay. Quiet, dead end road. Walking and bicycling is lovely! There are 2 bicycles for your use. (one has an adjustable seat - I'm 5'8") 10 minute drive to downtown Boothbay Harbor, Botanical Garden, Hannafords, movie theater, Opera House, and Walgreens. There's also a playground less than 3 miles away.

Other things to note
You would be living out of your suitcase/bags, as bureaus & closet are in use. There are some hooks in single bedroom for hanging. Because the rentals are short, the washer and dryer are not for renter's use. There's a clothesline for wet bathing suits/towels! May/June/Sept/Oct renters, please be familiar with running a woodstove for chilly nights, AND be willing to water window boxes, pots, and gardens if there's no rain. Many Thanks!

This home was fully rebuilt in 2021 but still features the original masonry and saltbox construction to keep the character. The first floor is compact but is bright, open and comfortable with a room for dining and living. There is the master bedroom and two full bathrooms and newly renovated kitchen. The upstairs includes a half bathroom, bedroom with twin beds and queen size bedroom. A/C is only available in master bedroom.

The outdoors include a table with a grill on the deck, and a balcony walkway from the second floor that goes to a wooded fireplace, with Adirondack chairs.

A vehicle is needed in this area, this is not walking distance to downtown Boothbay Harbor or markets. This property is a private escape surrounded by trees and nature.

The Back Narrows Social Club is your Damariscotta river-view retreat for a relaxing mid-coast Maine vacation! The location is minutes to attractions like the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Maine State Aquarium, and Boothbay Harbor, yet the Social Club is removed from the bustle of tourist noise. Just across the street you will have full access to a dock and float where you can launch your kayaks, tie up your boat, or just dip your toes in the water and watch for seals, otters, and eagles.

The space
This property has had many names and purposes: clam shack, 1930’s social club, and mainstay of the Boothbay YMCA before undergoing a renovation in the 1980’s.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including specialty lobster and oyster utensils. There's plenty of seating and space for dining and relaxing after a day of fun. Outside you will find a grill downstairs, and you can enjoy the river view while dining on the upstairs deck.

The bedroom features a queen sized bed with a "green tea foam" mattress. The futon in the living room also folds out to a full sized bed.

The living room features a smart-TV, as well as some books and games for you to enjoy during your stay.

Back Narrows Social Club is a two story structure, with separate living spaces on each floor. This listing is for the upstairs unit only. It has its own entrance and is completely separate from the upstairs unit. The yard and bbq grill are shared with downstairs guests.

Other things to note
This apartment does not have heating or air conditioning. Due to the mild summers, absence of a/c is common in the region. When it's warm we usually turn on ceiling fans and open the windows and enjoy a nice breeze. We also provide portable fans.

We have an exterior camera monitoring the driveway (video only, no audio), and it will be on during your stay.

PAYMENT and CANCELLATION:

Direct paying guests only: Tenant agrees to send the required separate damage/security deposit check for $300 made payable to ‘Kim Horstman’ and mailed to the Owner's address listed above, with any outstanding balance for rental payment due as well with this lease agreement, dated and signed in two places : (8) on page 2 and at the end of the lease. The damage deposit check will be deposited. After owner or her assign completes a property check and so long as no loss, theft, damage or violation of lease terms (outlined below) have occurred during the contract period then the security deposit amount shall be returned. Owner reserves the right to keep part or all of the security deposit amount if damage, loss or lease violations have occurred.

CANCELLATION POLICY: A reservation that is canceled by the Tenant between 29 days up to the date and time of check in will result in no refund of the rental amount but the security damage deposit shall be fully refunded.

If dog(s) are joining you for your vacation: Please bring pet towels and covers to protect cottage interior coverings. Any agreed upon pet shall follow 'house rules' and good behavior practices. Tenant agrees to bring all necessary dog supplies including towels (post swimming/rain to dry off), protective covers for our furniture, beds and bedding. Pet is preferably not allowed upon any furniture or beds UNLESS Tenant has covered the furniture, upholstery and bedding with their own water repellent dog blankets. Please use your own dog towels to dry your dog and wipe off muddy/wet paws before allowing pet indoors. Note: Muddy paws, damp dog smell, stains are challenging to rectify to say the least! It is virtually impossible to clean carpets and upholstery, couch pillows etc. in addition to all else in the few hours between guests checking out/in (on Saturday). Please pick up solid waste and ideally toss it deep into the woods where it will be recycled naturally (not in plastic/ waste basket in the house and certainly NOT flushed down the toilet- a big waste of water). Thank you.

3. NO SMOKING allowed inside the home, and preferably not anywhere on the grounds of our property.

4. NO FIREWORKS allowed anywhere on our property, for reasons including safety, fire-hazard, insurance and noise pollution/ neighborly respect. There are public locations where they may be allowed off our property (the community playground & ballfield at the beginning of Back River Rd, public boat docks, downtown in the harbor).

5. Tenant is responsible for damage, breakage and/or loss to the premises.

6. Tenant will leave the cottage and property neat, tidy, in good, clean condition with all original personal property provided to Tenant at the time of occupancy present and in the condition it was found upon start of rental period.

7. SWIMMING: Tenant warrants that no person who is not trained and capable to swim shall use or be in any the boating or water craft equipment – which is included at no additional charge – and available for safe and careful enjoyment with the cottage rental.

8. Tenant assumes ALL liability for personal use, safety and preservation of stairs, steps, stone, concrete and slate walk-ways, porch and deck; shore front including stone walls and steps; swimming, boating, docks and ladders; outdoor furniture, grill, any and all boats, flotation apparatus; sports equipment, games, toys, fishing equipment.

9. FIRE and BURNING: Tenant shall use the interior fireplace with utmost safety and caution, and never leave a burning fire unattended. Any fire, or grill, either in the outdoor fire pit, charcoal grill or indoor fireplace shall be extinguished before retiring to sleep or exiting the cottage for any outing.

10. GAS HEAT: Tenant shall not leave the gas wall unit heating system on or operating when not in the house or with windows or doors open, and preferably not while asleep for their own safety.

11. Tenant warrants that only people so named on this lease shall stay overnight at the cottage.


12. Tenant(s) shall be notified verbally and physically shown areas on this property where extra caution shall be taken while in use while Tenant(s) and their guests are on, near and around the lake and property, accessing, using or exiting the lake and home, especially at shoreline,waterfront stonewall and both docks and rampway, all slate, stone and concrete pathways.

13. HOLD HARMLESS: Tenant and all persons in the group so named or implied in this lease, or in agreement to rent or stay at this property, shall hold hold P. Kim Horstman harmless and blameless for any harm, injury, damage, accidents, death or loss during the rental period of the home at 230 Back River Road in Lincoln County, Boothbay, Maine 04357 and owned by P. Kim Horstman or her Trust.

15. Owner reserves the right to do yard and flower garden maintenance, use the upper lot of this property, access and use the separate sheds on the property at any time while guests are in residence.

We have always thought, and consistently found, that our guests will basically treat our home as they would their own, being mindful of safety and respectful of property and nature. We thank you for doing so.

You can watch beautiful sunsets while sitting on the deck with a drink and a good book. We own two kayaks and two canoes available for your use. Paddle to the Back River or to islands in the Sheepscot, and even to the Atlantic, from our little cove.

We book only by the week--$1500. Saturday to Saturday.
When you are tired of boiling your own lobster at home, it is just a short drive to the many restaurants and shops of Boothbay Harbor. One of the best lobster rolls in the region is within walking distance at the lobster shack on our little island, where you can also buy milk and beer and pick up a New York Times. Two hiking trails operated by the Boothbay Region Land Trust can be reached by foot from the front door.
