'We owe you, thanks for 'tuning us in' to such an amazing part of the Bay Area!'
'Your house is truly a sanctuary, we fell in love with it as soon as we walked in the door.'
''We found the house amazing, each window in the house gives you a different view and perspective of the surrounding nature.'
'Thank you for letting us into your slice of paradise. Everything was wonderful from the decor and location to the smallest of details. Did I mention my wife wanted to move in?'
'You really have a gift for making people feel at home. We are already talking of coming here again.'
Our 1500 sq ft. house is loft-style, built on a large rock with views of the Marin Mountains. Take pleasure in relaxing nights as you hear the crickets chirp and the rushing of the creek during the rainy months. Our house is a beautiful, tranquil place to unwind and enjoy everything that nature has to offer. On any given day, deer can be seen as close as 10 ft. from the outside deck.
Our house is nestled in the quaint town of Fairfax, CA which was just voted in 2011 as the ' Best Town in Marin' by the Pacific Sun.It is a quiet haven untouched by strip malls and corporate chains, yet it is close enough to the hustle and bustle of cities like San Francisco and Berkeley. A short distance a way are Mill Valley, Sausalito, Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais, Point Reyes, Stinson Beach & Napa.
Take advantage of picnicking in Deer Park, hiking/driving to the many lakes located near the house, strolling through the town of Fairfax, antique shopping in San Anselmo and exploring the other great cities, beaches & activities nearby. A few nights in Fairfax and you just may decide to stay!
We are walking distance to Deer Park Villa

- "The beds were very comfortable, the views were lovely and the home was clean. We enjoyed exploring the neighborhood too, we felt safe. Host was great to communicate with. We were concerned because we were traveling in the summertime and this home doesn’t have central AC. However, the bedrooms had ACs in them and so even tho the days in the common areas of the house were hot, we slept great in the cool bedrooms at night. In the mornings and at night, the common areas in the house cooled down too. The host left instructions on how best to use the fans in the house to cool everything down in the evening and we appreciated that. The town of Fairfax is cute and has great restaurants. Would love to visit again!"

- "Super chill 😎" - "Beautiful view, very close to town. Great location!!! Road is a bit tricky to get up to house, definitely need to go slow and pay attention for oncoming cars. Host was great, really didn’t require much while there since we were doing a lot of sightseeing." - "We had the most wonderful time at Vicki's beautiful property. Every aspect of this home is outstanding. The kitchen is fully equipped although we mostly had food delivered, the living room and dining room are small but cozy, the outside patio is large and so inviting, the bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was fabulous! but the absolute best thing about Vicki's place is the view overlooking the infinity pool that absolutely took our breath away! We had lazy mornings by the pool or on the beautiful patio, then we would go and explore the surrounding area.... we hiked Mount Tamalpais which you can see from the pool! we visited some wineries, had a lovely long walk at Point Reyes, drove some of Route 1 and visited cute little towns but always made sure we were back to enjoy a few hours by the pool every afternoon with a cocktail. It was our favorite part of the day! We enjoyed our stay so much, it truly is a little slice of heaven. We hope to return again one day!"

Away from the hustle and bustle
Walking distance (7 minutes) to Good Earth (best health food store in Marin) and downtown Fairfax (we will show you the shortcut).
Fairfax is a small quaint town which has kept its original flavor and offers family as well as gourmet restaurants, a 6 movie theaters, 4 live music venues, gorgeous hikes and an Eldorado of biking trails (as a matter of fact Fairfax claims to be the cradle of mountain biking), farmers market and lots of small shops where treasures can still be found.
This town has its own way of making you feel at home with its people walking and chatting in the streets, particularly around the downtown's Coffee Roastery. The typical Fairfaxian life style is casual and relaxed.
This is a beautiful hillside property offering stunning views of the surrounding hills. The neighborhood is friendly and slow paced, minutes away from hiking trails overlooking the San Francisco Bay Area.
From your rental you have access to our private BBQ area hidden in the oak trees.
The big deck is ideal for relaxation with small table and chairs.

We will definitely be back." - "Thomas was very easy to coordinate with. The home itself is clean and comfortable and was outfitted with fresh fruit, flowers, bottled water, and a nice bottle of wine. The balcony has stunning views! Thanks for a great stay!"

- "Our family, especially my 6-year-old, loved staying in this adorable duplex for a quiet New Year's holiday weekend, literally steps away from downtown Fairfax. The host responded promptly to all of our inquiries. It's not a huge place but it's well designed and feels bigger than it is! The bunk beds in the mini rooms are really fun and surprisingly comfy. The mattress and pillows in the primary bedroom were also very comfortable. We were there on a rainy weekend, so it was great that they had so many streaming channels to choose from on the TV, and we spent a good chunk of time playing with the Ms. Pac Man arcade and the board games too, as we did not do as much outdoor exploring as initially planned. We did get one sunny day, and chose to drive out to Point Reyes to see the elephant seals, the lighthouse, and the beaches, a little over an hour away from the house (and the drive itself is lovely), though there are also plenty of things to see and places to hike closer by. The town is small, but they have some great dining options, all within an easy walking distance. We would definitely recommend this place for a small group or family! We truly enjoyed our stay."

- "Very bright and wonderful outdoor spaces" - "We loved our stay! Perfect setting for a larger group, we also had the casita unit which was perfect for a small family. The large open concept kitchen and living room was perfect for hanging out, as well as the large patio. Unfortunately there was a broken waterline in the neighborhood the morning we were checking out, so not having water was troublesome for the group, but nothing the home owner could have done. Overall, a lovely stay!"

Public transport easy to access.
- "The best aspects were the location close to the town center and a well-appointed kitchen as most of our meals were prepared in-house courtesy of a retirement budget. The one negative was heavy footsteps on the ceiling, maybe due to lack of adequate sound insulation or to lack of common courtesy, or both."

The space is the downstairs master room of our peaceful home. You have a private entrance and the room is closed off from the rest of the house. We live on the valley floor, but are 46 stairs up on the side of Rockridge, making you feel like you are in a castle. The high iron content of our soil has long made our property a magnetic pole. There are ancient rock bowls carved into the ridge top by the indigenous Miwok's who once inhabited the region.

There is a small hotel style kitchenette with all needed utensils, a microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge with a freezer. You have your own bathroom, with a roomy standing shower. This environmentally friendly historic cottage sits securely on bedrock in a quiet setting on a hillside with views of the valley, hills and town just a 5 minute walk to downtown Fairfax (Good Earth, cafes, movie-theater, etc). We thoroughly clean and disinfect linen, surfaces etc. between each stay as well as leaving days between stays following Marin Covid-19 safety restrictions. Parking is limited, so best for guests who can walk a block up the hill from ample parking the street below.
The space
The cottage is about 100 years old. It is shown in the Fairfax Historic Book -- the last page of a section showing the incline railroad that went up the hill. You come down stone stairs to a low gate for the upper deck which leads to the front door opening to the cozy living room with a stone fireplace. Through the living room is the kitchen and beyond that the bathroom on one side and the canopy style bed on the other leading to the dining area which overlook the patio and grounds. The bathroom door art is by Lord Tim Hudson who with Lady Maxi Hudson rented the cottage for several summers when they were in the area painting and displaying his art in shows.
Guest access
The back patio is primarily for you although I may use the patio to access a lower storage area on occasion. The grounds/steps below the patio are private/not for your use. There are 26 front stone steps by the mailbox to the front deck. There are also steps from the street to your back deck.
Other things to note
The cottage is environmentally friendly, on a septic system so only use biodegradable ingredients. We recycle with designated bins emptied early Thursday AM.
There is on street parking only so please be careful of the 12' clearance for firetrucks (marked on the street now in yellow). Parking is limited to usually one car although if you walk a block down the hill there is almost always parking.
The old Occidental oven is not working (top burners are fine); we have a toaster oven and induction oven available for you as well as a regular toaster.
