- "Stunning! This was my wife's first trip to California and seeing the Pacific Ocean. Hence, this was the perfect place to make that lifetime impression. It was simply spectacular! The pictures online were helpful, but being there in real life was amazing! The views were fantastic, the wildlife was exciting to see and interact with, and the proximity to various things we wanted to see and do was wonderful. It was so cool to see the moon rise over Muir Beach as we sat in bed. And then to have the beautiful sun rises too! I genuinely feel I couldn't have picked a better place. It was so relaxing we were hesitant to leave and do other things. We could have simply sat on the deck chairs and watched the days go by. As someone who cleans homes for a living, I'm probably one of the worse people to have as a guest. Having said that, the property was spotless! Things were so well taken care of and clean. I was very impressed! An added benefit of our stay was being able to use the laundry. After five days of hiking in Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite National Parks, a washer and dryer were a welcome relief! If you do choose to stay here, do venture out and visit the Muir Beach Overlook that's up over the hill behind the property; spectacular views! Good place to watch the sun set too! Muir Woods is nearby, within 3 miles - take the back road to get there. And the Pelican Inn has good food and a wonderful old English pub vibe to it. Our visit was worth every penny spent!"

- "Wonderful location, within walking distance to everything in downtown Sausalito! The houseboat was very nicely decorated and comfortable. " - "We really enjoyed our stay. The boat was comfortable and spacious for 2 people and perfectly located. The perfect getaway to unwind and relax on the water." - "The stay was wonderful, as the weather was being very cooperative. The people in the adjoining houseboats were friendly and kind. The only issue I had with the whole business was that I was being forced to join VRBO (the app) in order to communicate with the owner. The inability to do that triggered my PTSD, and that almost ruined my stay."

- "What an experience to stay on a 100-year-old boat! We enjoyed ourselves to the max on the boat with some local wine and charcuterie from Mollie Stone’s. Brian was very helpful to all of our inquiries! We loved every second of our stay!" - "On a recent trip to Northern California with my grandson, I was looking for unique experiences for him. Brian’s boat fit the bill. Anchored in the Sausalito marina, we spent the night aboard and then took a two hour San Francisco Bay excursion the next morning. Definitely not the same as a hotel stay, required a little more effort, but that was the point. Weather during this second week of June was extremely windy and foggy but that added to the experience. Brian was a great host and easy to communicate with. Would recommend to anyone looking for not just a run of the mill lodging choice."

It was located close to San Francisco and also many parks, mountains, and beaches. We enjoyed getting outdoors, touring, and eating some really delicious food. We would definitely stay here again! One small note: The VRBO listing of places to sleep is slightly confusing. There is 1 king, 1 queen, and 1 single bed (in a small alcove in the same room as the king). It says it sleeps 7, but I’m not sure how more than 5 could sleep there. Beds are comfy though!"

- "This quiet, lushly landscaped, beautifully designed space tucked into Sausalito's hillside with views of the bay, boats and wildlife from every room turned out to be perfect for our needs. As both my husband and I were receiving radiation treatments at UCSF Med Center, commutes to SF were only 20-25 minutes away. The space on our return was perfect, private and serene complete with a secluded patio. Our nicely equipped little kitchen made it possible to prepare most of our meals, though we occasionally took advantage of the exceptional restaurants close by. Our host was available and helpful throughout our visit but otherwise giving us the space and quiet we needed. All in all the property exceeded our expectations."

- "Our recent stay at this apartment at The Gables Inn was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to downtown Sausalito, where we enjoyed incredible restaurants, charming boutique shops, and even a few local museums. It’s the perfect spot to soak in everything this beautiful town has to offer. One of the unexpected perks was the onsite parking. While there’s a 30 daily fee, it’s actually a better deal than the public parking nearby, which can run 35 or more per day. Having a guaranteed spot made exploring the area stress-free.The apartment itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Fresh linens, all the necessary utensils, and even a K-cup coffee machine stocked generously with Peet’s coffee and creamers made it easy to settle in. It truly felt like a home away from home—spacious, airy, and thoughtfully arranged.A special shout-out to the staff, who were exceptionally friendly and responsive. Before we even arrived, they texted to see if we needed anything, and when we inquired about the couch folding out to a bed, they had it made up with fresh bedding and pillows—without us having to ask again. Throughout our stay, they were just a quick text away. When we needed new towels, they were delivered in under five minutes! The TVs were fully functional with access to Netflix, which was a great touch for winding down after a day of exploring."

The kitchen was perfect, with the basic tools and contemporary appliances. The king bed was most comfortable. The gas heater worked perfectly. We always found street parking. The neighborhood is quiet, and driving to town was quick. Our hosts were easy to contact and always responded promptly. - "Had a great time. Would definitely go back." - "We stayed on this boat in early March and it was 43-45 degrees at night. There were recurrent power issues with the boat and we were not able to use the space heater or hot water most of the time. If I didn’t have the foresight to bring our winter camping gear, my son and I would have been freezing all night. We didn’t pay for an unheated camp site and the heating situation didn’t meet our expectations compared to the overall cost. The hosts need to make sure there is consistent heating and hot water during the cold season or only rent out the boat when it’s warm. "

Our home with views is in the heart of Sausalito, the "Amalfi Coast of California." Minutes from San Francisco, with urban life and nature access at the same time: birds and deer roam the neighborhood, hiking trails and beaches abound, historic Victorian homes are next to great restaurants, live music venues, and gourmet grocery stores. The Ferry terminal is a 5 minute walk and San Francisco a 25-minute ferry ride, or 20-minute drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, or one- hour bike ride away.
We are in a quiet residential neighborhood just one block up a hill from the main street through Sausalito. The SF Ferry dock is a 5 minute walk.
Sausalito is a hillside town on a part of the SF Bay known as Richardson Bay. The neighborhood we are in is known as the "Sun Belt" because it's the warmest and least windy part of Sausalito. Downtown can be accessed via several streets or several stairways between properties. Sausalito is know for its beautiful views of San Francisco, historic old Victorian homes, and access to nature.
There is plenty of safe on-street neighborhood parking available.
There are two flights of stairs to get to the guest house. One from the street down to our property and another from the front of the house down to the guest house.
The neighborhood is great for walking. Lots of historic Victorian homes and beautiful views to see. You can walk to beaches on the bay and to trailheads that lead out into the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The area is very popular with bikers (road and mountain) and there are bike shops nearby that rent bikes for the day (including ebikes).
Most of San Francisco is assessable via public transportation, starting with a scenic ferry ride from a dock that is a 5 minute walk. Napa and the wine country are about 40 minutes north by car. The beautiful natural areas and beaches of West Marin and Tomales Bay are about 45 minutes by car.
- "My husband and I stayed at this Sausalito unit for six weeks. It has a spectacular view of the bay and San Francisco. It is walking distance to amazing restaurants, shopping and local scenery. The host was very accessible and accommodating and enjoyable to chat with. The unit is supplied with all the essentials. We were sad to have to leave." - "We had a spectacularly great time at this property. The property is ideally located – away from the fracas enough for quiet; high enough in the hills for stunning views; yet still a short walk to town. The living area is outfitted with comfortable furniture and a huge flat screen TV. The kitchen and (very large) pantry are equipped with every conceivable item one could want, including four (!) choices of coffee-makers. The ultra-high speed internet connection proves very handy. The beds are made with quality linens. The entire property was spotlessly clean on arrival, and we took advantage of further cleanings (on a month-long stay, as mandated by the city for rental platforms like VRBO). Most of, John, who primarily handles dealings with guests, and his wife, Mojgan, could not possibly be more accommodating, pleasant, fair minded, and responsive. The place is a gem. "

The owners, Mike and Laura, live in the downstairs, one-floor unit and are happy to answer any questions you have about the area. The backyard is reserved for the owners and our sweet dog, Koko.
- "Just book it. You'll be glad you did. 2 beds - both very comfortable - one upstairs, one on main level - 2 decks with a view of the Bay - both amazing - great restaurants - definitely eat at Freds. Don't book something in SF - this is so much nicer. We did several nights here and then 3 more in SF - so sorry we left. It's fabulous - don't doubt it - just do it."

Ahoy Travelers!
The Darwind is a 28' sailboat located in beautiful Sausalito's Richardson Bay
She's compact and cozy with the bare essentials inside for your comfort.
Use the provided kayak and check out the local wildlife, go for a walk or bike downtown only 10 minutes away
This is ideal for one person looking to explore the SF Bay area, or work remotely for the month.
Spring and Summer absolutely stunning in Sausalito and life aboard is a unique and life changing experience.
The space
Before booking your stay at the Darwind, Please note the following:
This is a space to unplug and enjoy nature and the community. Utilize local cafes for wifi or bring a hotspot.
The marina has two full private access bathrooms located just 70 yards away as there's no head aboard. Keep in mind that this is shared among the rest of live aboard with no bathroom so there may be times when it is in use and you have to wait. There will be marina-grade TP provided on the boat.
This is a relatively quiet marina, with quiet hours being after 10pm.
Especially in the summer days, given the geography of Sausalito, the marina can get quite windy at times. Due to the size of the sailboat, you will certainly feel rocking. This is what comes with boat life and over the course your stay here, you will ideally embrace gaining your sea legs.
Getting onto the sailboat requires some degree of coordination and balance, otherwise there is an inherent risk of falling into the water, injury, or both. There is a set of 3 steps to get onto the boat itself and once you’re on, there is another 3 step latter inside that you walk down to enter the interior quarters.
There is a large parking lot at the marina, with 3 hour day parking. Most who live at the marina park for longer than 3 hours at a time and get away with it. There is the occasional parking ticket. If this is a concern, there is residential parking a 5min walk away
Features: air fryer, mini fridge, water kettle, filtered running water, French press, dehumidifier fresh towels and sheets, collection of local and marine-themed books.
A sit-atop kayak is available for you to paddle around Richardson Bay and observe a diverse range of marine wildlife, including pelicans, terns, and the iconic harbor seals of Sausalito.
Nearby :
Two laundromats are a 5 minute drive away.
Wi-Fi cafes 3-7 minute walk away: Taste of Rome, Equator coffee, Firehouse Coffee and Tea.
Less than 30minutes away in Marin county you have access to some of the most exceptional nature in California, including Mount Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, Tennessee Valley, the Marine Mammal center and if you want to drive a little further- point Reyes station.
San Francisco is just a ferry ride or drive across the Golden Gate Bridge away!
Guest access
The sailboat is all yours to enjoy. Bring a guest or two if you'd like. Just keep in mind the accessibility and coordination for them.
Feel free to sit on the upper deck, rear deck or anywhere inside. You have full access of the marina is you will be considered a tenant for the duration of your stay!
Have fun and say hi to the locals. Everyone is friendly and warm.
Other things to note
We want to highlight what we feel are the three biggest things to understand:
Bathroom:
There is no usable head on board as The Darwind is small. You will be given a key to the private bathrooms, this must be treated as sacred and is never to be leant out, as the replacement fee is 300.00
Access:
Getting on and off the boat requires some coordination and balance and must be taken seriously each time. You will get your sea legs here.
Please be careful!
Wi-Fi:
There is no Wifi for now. We want the experience to be as simple as possible with no TV, No Wifi or the conveniences of the modern world. (Think remote backpacking, but on the water)

Already booked full-time January - December 2025! Meet WHIM, a stylish but fuss-free 36' 1980 Gibson houseboat (432 sq ft) featured in Refinery 29 and California Magazine for her light & airy interior redesign.
Customized from the hull up in 2016, she is a rare, live-aboard home on the water just a short walk to shops, cafes, restaurants, the SF ferry, and more. Moored in Sausalito's sunny banana belt, enjoy the full spectrum of micro-climates from Bay sunshine to fog rolling over the headlands!
The space
Best for one or possibly two "veryclose" guests, WHIM is your pied-a-terre on la Mer! Easy access and an excellent location close to everywhere.
Go car-free to explore the nearby areas on foot, bike, ferry, bus or Uber--from San Francisco to Stinson Beach. Public bike parking is on-board or near the dock.
Minimalists welcome! Just bring some clothes, toiletries, and food--everything else is provided!
30-day stays are required by Sausalito laws, and consecutive but separately-booked additional stays are allowed (to abide by California tenancy law).
Personal friends and family can message us for shorter stays.
Guest access
You'll have full access to the entire boat, including 3 outdoor deck spaces to enjoy.
Other things to note
WHIM is 436 square feet so the space is good for one or possibly two "veryclose" guests.
When I'm not living on the boat, I've hosted very happy guests for many months offline for 1.5 years, but since they were Contract occupants they were unable to post their 5-star reviews here on the Airbnb platform.
Best for minimalists. Just bring some clothes, toiletries, and food--everything else is provided! Storage for your personal belongings includes 4 dresser compartments, 3 metal basket drawers, 5 underneath baskets, and 8 hanging hooks.
In addition to the on-board bathroom (which is a standard houseboat pump toilet/shower combo), the "second bathroom" is a short dock walk from WHIM and is exclusively for the private residents of this small marina and their approved guests. There are actually two on-shore resident bathrooms! Each has a secure entrance (we provide a separate key), a large full shower, toilet, and sink. Bring with you the showering supplies provided on the boat (or your own). Smile and wave if you happen to see resident neighbors walking in their robes to this bathroom once in awhile! Residents are responsible for keeping the two on-shore bathrooms clean.
Nightly rate includes slip fee (quite expensive), electricity, on-board water, great Internet, trash, maintenance, and monthly blackwater (sewage) pump out. Extra charge for additional pump outs.
Reduced rates for wintertime, when the Bay Area can experience lots of rain and wind. WHIM is still cozy and habitable during these months but some people may feel more comfortable with a Plan B place to stay for some days during this time.
Please note that the host/owner shall not be liable for any claim for loss, accidents, injuries or illness that may occur to any guest, their pets or visitors, or their property while on the premises or its facilities. By submitting a reservation request, you are acknowledging this.

There are plenty of storage spaces in the room to accommodate all of your things, depending on how long you are staying. There is a TV in the room with Amazon Fire that you are welcome to use. There is a small closet in the room that has two racks for hanging clothes as needed.
To create the most space, I keep the bed as a single bed. It is an expandable bed however and I will pull it out to create a double bed for couples. It does have the potential to expand all the way to a queen size bed, but I don't necessarily recommend that because of using up all of the space. But I'm happy to accommodate all guests and their needs. The room also has Alexa and can access all music or information needs you might have.
Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house during their stay. Once you enter the main house, it is an open floor plan that includes the gallery open kitchen, the living and dining room. Guests can feel free to make themselves at home and enjoy the entire place, including the front deck that overlooks the bay. There is a working fireplace as well as a grill for your use. There is a shared bathroom that I also will share with guests. My room is on a separate side of the house that allows for privacy and it has a door that closes of this space from the rest of the common area. I am a friendly, social guy and give my guests as much space and privacy as they want and need.
Other things to note
My house is set up to have this space work great as a rental space - the room itself was an add-on to the house, so it feels very separate for privacy. I do allow my guests to have complete access to the entire house and like for them to feel very comfortable. I am also respectful of your space and will do my best to give you as much as you need. Because this is also my home - I do try to create a space that has everything you need, but it is not designed to look like a hotel - it is a unique, beautiful home and I want my guests to enjoy that aspect of the space.
I had a challenge when I first set up my account on Airbnb and wasn't able to respond back to my guests. Please don't be put off by the response rate - I am very responsive and all of my information is now listed appropriately!

After a day exploring the Sausalito waterfront, hiking windswept coastal trails, or simply stepping back from the city’s steady pace, this garden-level stopover welcomes you into ease.
The space
Sausalito Stopover is a tucked-away space designed for rest and reflection. Sink into a deep, grounding sofa. Sip warm tea with a view of the jasmine-draped patio. Let your breath match the rhythm of the bay.
Laid-back California elegance meets healing simplicity.
Guests are invited to enjoy a cozy and artful space filled with vintage touches, filtered light, and soulful calm. Healing experiences—like Ayurvedic consultations or guided meditations—are available for those who seek them, but never required.
Whether you’re on a solo creative retreat, in between journeys, or just craving a place to land that feels like an exhale, this little hillside nest is here for you.
Guest access
Guests are welcome to enjoy the living room, bathroom, kitchen, and all outdoor areas including the patio and upper gravel garden. You’ll sleep on the deep, luxurious couch in the main room, with access to the full bathroom just down the hall.
The kitchen is shared but welcoming — feel free to warm up leftovers or prepare a simple meal. Tea and fresh fruit are often available.

Located in a residential neighborhood in quiet, lovely Sausalito with fab shops & restaurants yet close to all SF and Marin County have to offer. Like a treehouse with 1 bedroom/1 bath, full kitchen, deck, fireplace, off-street parking & more. Recently refreshed for your comfort. Sausalito laws and new Marin County short term-rental restriction only allow rentals of 30 days or more.
The space
The entire flat is yours. Designer done to be as comfortable as the best boutique hotels but with a full kitchen, deck and off street parking. Recently renovated. Lots of light. Three blocks from the Bay.
This flat is one level of a peaceful mid-century duplex that feels like a tree house and reveals the Bay as you step out the front door. As the City of Sausalito bans short-term rentals, this unit is only available for rentals of 30 days or more and I will not accept short-term rentals as I do not want to subject my guest to additional taxes, fines or harassment.
Very nice place for one or two but in a pinch can accommodate up to four family members or good friends. Know that while we can accommodate up to four, we don't recommend that you have 3 or 4 adults present for a month or more as the flat is small by American standards.
Very comfortable space with high thread-count linens on the queen sized bed (in bedroom) and the couch is queen sized convertible in front of the fireplace. This is the upper unit of a duplex and is approximately 650 square feet plus about 120 square feet of deck space.
Housekeeping every two weeks is included.
Our housekeeper has been trusted with caring for my home for more than 20 years. She has a regular cleaning day every-other week and will come and clean during your stay, change the bed and bath linens and take them to be cleaned. Her cleaning normally is in the afternoon and takes about 3 hours. We hope you can enjoy the area and return to a refreshed home.
We also know that things can happen during your stay and so have a handyman and plumber nearby if there is something that needs to be addressed. Please just let us know if there is something that needs to be adjusted and it's a priority to have it taken care of for you.
A great retreat in one of the most sought after spots in the world and is a San Francisco Bay Area treasure. This comfortable, stylish home is located 1 mile north of the Golden Gate Bridge - so you have the best of San Francisco available to you in a beautiful quiet setting.
An easy launch pad to explore the California coast, Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais and the wine country. Or, you can just spend your time walking around Sausalito exploring the lovely village with its things to do, galleries, great restaurants and shops.
Fully furnished featuring Euro kitchen (gas stove, dishwasher, gourmet tools and more), fireplace, high-speed, wifi, flat-screen 4k smart tv with premium cable & DVD, stereo and a nice deck to dine and relax.
Great place for a vacation or to stay for work in the S.F. Bay Area. Sausalito is just over the Golden Gate Bridge or an easy ferry ride to San Francisco and a it is an easy, short trip to the wine county and coast. If you are working in San Francisco your commute is easier and quicker than many S.F. neighborhoods.
Off-street parking but you don't need a car with great public transportation just blocks away.
NO SMOKING ALLOWED - this is a City law.
Will consider pets but due to two recent unfortunate issues with pets I have to take a more restrictive policy considering pets. You will have to agree to additional house rules and an additional deposit.
Discounts given for longer stays.
This home is an easy walk to the bus (3 ½ blocks) or ferry (¾ mile) to whisk you to San Francisco or you can stroll the charming waterside village of Sausalito with great restaurants, shops and galleries.
Parks, tennis courts, hiking and bike trails are just steps away.
The host has lived in the area more than 30 years and will fill you in on all local secrets for whatever your passion is -- wine tasting, yoga, hiking, biking, shopping, food and more.
Guest access
Guests have their own off-street parking space. There is space to store your bike or other some outdoor gear. You are the only one to have access to the upper floor of this duplex and have your own private deck.
Guests need to have 3 levels of verification and a photo on Airbnb to book. All guests need to understand that this listing is in a residential neighborhood and be respectful of our neighbors and town. Please treat our town with the respect you expect for your own and keep noise levels down between 11 pm and 7 am.
Other things to note
Your comfort is paramount to me so please let me know your interests and I'm happy to recommend local places for you to enjoy your interests during your stay in Sausalito and as you explore the Bay Area and California.

Located at the end of one of Marin’s most coveted houseboat docks, the Yellow Ferry Harbor, this freestanding floating home blends the nostalgia of the houseboat experience of the 1960’s and 70’s with today’s amenities.
The last boat on the northward leg of the dock, the floating guest cottage has sweeping views of the bay, the surrounding rolling hills, and in the distance, the majestic slopes of Mt. Tamalpais. An inviting public jetty extends into the bay between the cottage and the scores of sailboats berthed in the nearby Richardson Bay Marina. The gentle music of their riggings in the breeze will mesmerize you.
Enter through the main front room, whose dining table for six, comfortable sofa, and captain's chair can easily accommodate small gatherings of friends and family. The potbelly gas stove adds warmth and coziness on a rainy day. Cooking is a pleasure with a full-sized gas range, oven, and other modern appliances.
At the rear of the main floor, the smaller of two bedrooms sleeps two in a queen sized bed with comfortable Tempurpedic mattress. The large north-facing window frames the Marina and Mt. Tam beyond. The entire second floor is a master bedroom, a luxurious double bed nestled under the graceful curve of its arched ceiling.
On a sunny day – and this area is known locally as ‘The Banana Belt’ – enjoy outdoor dining on the spacious upper deck with its panoramic views. Or sit and read in the Adirondack chairs on the front float, surrounded by flowers. For recreation, paddle out in the kayaks or pedal away on the great Marin bike trail or to the Sausalito Ferry for the half-hour cruise to San Francisco. (No children under 13 in the kayak.) Bike rentals are a mile away.
Otis Redding fans will appreciate that he wrote Dock of the Bay while a guest on one of Sausalito's storied docks, some say this one. You are assured a serene and magical time, watching the tides roll away (thank you, Otis) and enjoying the herons and egrets, frequent visitors to your front yard.
This is the ideal rental for a couple or a single guest looking to get away from the everyday, but still seeking the convenience and fun that Sausalito offers. Families will experience the San Francisco Bay from a unique vantage point. Ideal for families with middle-schoolers or teenagers. Parents should realize that from a safety perspective living on a houseboat is no different than being on a boat. For that reason, no children under 10 are allowed as renters or as guests of the renters. Two couples may also share the guest cottage.
We expect guests to leave the floating guest cottage clean and in good order. If not, a reasonable deduction will be taken from your security deposit. We do not expect guests to wash or change the bed linens or towels.
The rental includes a parking space in the Yellow Ferry Harbor lot, and your houseboat is located just a five minute drive from downtown Sausalito, ten minutes from Mill Valley, twelve minutes across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco and approximately an hour to the wine country.
This is a truly special residence in an unforgettable natural setting.
