- "If you're looking for lots and lots of beauty, serenity, and quietude in a natural, breathtakingly beautiful natural setting, then this apartment may be just what the doctor ordered. ///// The actual apartment, which is connected to a beautiful home surrounded by mountains and meadows, is not very big, but it is fully equipped for at least a week-long stay: kitchen, bathroom, shower, relaxation area, decent lighting, scattered artworks, comfortable king-size bed. Oh -- and absolute privacy! ///// For me, a writer and frequent solo traveler, on the road to work on my latest book, it was an ideal situation. ///// And while the property is very quiet and secluded, there are several lovely and very interesting towns BEYOND beautiful Middlebury -- notably Ripton, Bristol, Vergennes, and Brandon, all of which I visited -- only a few easy miles away. ///// this is not a party-time destination! But it IS an excellent place to be if you want and need the kind of quietness, solitude, and natural beauty that Vermont has in abundance. -- RB, Berwick, Maine 10/19/24"

Custom home built by the owner. Country setting in an orchard with Middlebury College just a five minute drive away. This is a quiet neighborhood surrounded by rural properties, operating farms and orchards. The house has 3 levels with the main living area on the 2nd floor. This is a great space for a relaxing getaway; an artists retreat or for a group of skiers, riders or hikers. Come back after a day of outdoor adventure to warm radiant heat under elm and tiled floors. Or cool off in the summer with air conditioning and fresh night air. Several architectural details created from local hardwoods. The 2nd level has a large private deck facing west for evening sunsets, bbq grilling and star gazing. This level includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining and living area; one queen bedroom and a large bathroom/laundry. The shower is floor to ceiling travertine with built in bench. The upper loft is two spaces separated by a curved balcony. One end is for reading - with a work desk, monitor and printer. The other loft space has two full size beds tucked out of the way. Please note the steps to the loft are steep and not recommended for everyone. The first level entry has large built in cubbies and storage spaces for ski gear and backpacks. There's a private, queen sized bedroom plus it's own bathroom with walk in tiled shower. This is a great house to relax, read, write, paint or create. Very functional kitchen with honed granite countertops and stainless steel appliances--excellent fiber optics WIFI. A comfortable dining area with seating for up to 6 people. Your hosts are seasoned international travelers who enjoy meeting and hosting others.
We do have 2 cats for those who have concerns about allergies.
It feels sad to have to say this but we have had some guests tell us that they have been uneasy about being accepted when they try to make an AirBNB reservation - we warmly welcome all ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual preferences, etc. If you are a kind, respectful, considerate person we will enjoy your company!
Guest access
We make our kitchen available to those guests who would like to make their own meals. We provide coffee or tea but the incidence of dietary restrictions is so great these days that we choose not to provide breakfast. Also our morning schedules are quite variable so we are not always available.
I like to know if people are planning on food prep so I can make room in the fridge and am happy to share the incidentals like oil, spices, sugar, etc.
Living room and TV room is open to you as well.
During your stay
We are happy to share our whole home with guests - they are welcome to our kitchen and living areas - but are also respectful of the fact that some folks need to have their own space. We always enjoy some conversation and if we need our own space are upfront about communicating that.
We also try not to be too demanding on their time as we realize they have come to the area with specific events to attend - but this can be a challenge as our curiosity leads us to want to know them better. AirBNB is such a good way to remind us all that there are lots of good and interesting people in the world!
Other things to note
We are willing to rent the whole house out for events at Middlebury College. The house could accommodate 3 couples - one room with king-size bed, one queen and one double. Mattresses can also be put on the floor if here are more folks. Please contact me for pricing.

This clean, quiet, ground-level apartment enjoys an out-of-town feel and expansive mountain views while being conveniently located to the town of Middlebury, Middlebury College, the Green Mountain National Forest, the Middlebury College Snow Bowl and the Rikert Nordic Center, and more. This 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment features an open living concept and a fully equipped kitchen and is just 1.5 miles from restaurants and grocery stores and 2 miles from the college.
The space
As the last house on the cul-de-sac, this place is quiet! Convenient off-street parking at the door of the apartment makes for easy access. As you enter you’ll notice an open concept living area, with the living room, dining room, and kitchen sharing the same large space. The kitchen is fully appointed with a Wolf range, dishwasher, toaster oven, coffee maker, and more. The living room is tastefully outfitted with a sofa, coffee table, bookshelf and lamp, and large TV complete with a variety of streaming services. The dining options include a large table or seats at the kitchen island - all with magnificent views of farm fields and the Green Mountains. For the more adventurous, take your coffee, meal, or cocktail out onto the 300 sq ft covered porch where you’ll find a patio dining set and a pair of Adirondack chairs. The bedroom features a king size bed, lamps, a closet and shelving space. The bathroom includes a marble shower and a washer/dryer set. Please note that my wife (Kate) and I live in the upper portion of the house. Some of our living space is directly above the apartment but much of it is not directly conjoined, meaning that you shouldn’t notice us too much - we are quiet, early-to-bed types and affording our guests privacy is our default mode, but we’re happy to offer suggestions and recommendations to help you get to know town and the surrounding area. We’re outdoor enthusiasts, so recommendations for local roads and trails for biking, hiking, and running, options for cross-country, downhill, and backcountry skiing, and rivers and lakes for swimming and paddling tend to be our strength!
Other things to note
We live on the upper level of the house. We’re a quiet, professional couple. Our kitchen and some living space is directly above the apartment, and our bedroom and additional living space and home offices are in a space that is not directly adjacent to the apartment. Your privacy and a quiet experience our are primary goals, but guests will notice that the building is shared.
