Only 3 miles from historic Woodstock Village, which offers small town fine shopping and a variety of quality restaurants as well as fun for the kids at Billings Farm and golf at the famous Woodstock Country Club. Woodstock offers many year-round activities, including skiing at Saskadena (formerly known as Suicide 6) in Pomfret (6 miles away), Killington (20 miles away), Pico (22 miles away), Okemo (24 miles away) swimming, fishing and kayaking at Silver Lake in Barnard (10 miles away), hiking at Mount Tom & Mount Peg (in Woodstock Village), horseback riding at the Green Mountain Horse stables in South Woodstock, or just relaxing and experiencing all the natural beauty the area has to offer. We are located 10 miles from Quechee and 20 miles from Dartmouth College/Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical School and Hospital/Hanover, NH. We are also 7 miles north of the famous Jenne Farm in Reading, the destination point for many photographers and lovers of fall foliage. Good place to stay if you're coming into the area for the Covered Bridges Half marathon in June or the 100 mile run in July (which goes right past our house), as well as the 4th of July (Woodstock does great fireworks) and the balloon festival in early June. Also convenient for Dartmouth College graduations. Winter vacation weeks are filled with fun family activities in town. Rates may be higher for holiday weekends/weeks and special event weekends. No long term rentals accepted (2 week maximum).
The house is a single-story ranch, with a small one car garage under, located on a town road and easily accessed in all types of weather. AC provided by mini-splits in all bedrooms and living room. There is a large and sunny open living/dining room area, with two large comfortable couches, two recliner chairs and a dining room table that seats 6-8. This room is bordered all around by large windows and a skylight, and opens up onto a three-season screened porch that overlooks the rear yard, flower gardens, woods, gravel patio and brick fireplace. There are ceiling fans in the living room master bedroom, kitchen & porch, and there is a nice cross-breeze from the windows and open screen doors. For music lovers, there is even an older built-in piano !! There is also a 52” Samsung Smart TV, and sound bar, as well as a DVD player (and some DVDs) a radio and an IPOD docking station. High speed internet cable with upload and downloading speeds of 300mg, and cell phone reception for certain carriers (ie: Verizon is okay but not AT&T) and a land line for local calls. There is a gas fireplace, to stay warm and cozy on cold winter days ! We also have an outdoor fireplace with plenty of wood, and chairs and it is delightful to sit outside next to a warm fire and gaze at the star-filled night sky, with no lights anywhere in sight to hide your view !
The kitchen is older but has been recently painted and is in very good condition and has been upgraded with a new refrigerator, microwave, electric stove and dishwasher, and includes Corian counters and a small built-in breakfast nook which can seat 4-5 people. The breakfast nook looks out from the front of the house, and faces east, so is quite pleasant in the mornings when the sun is pouring in. There is a new full size front load washer and dryer located just outside the kitchen. Coffee maker is drip, using round filters.
There are four bedrooms, two have queen beds (master bedroom and front corner bedroom), a third bedroom has a double bed and the forth bedroom has a twin bed. Linens, pillows and comforters are all in good condition, and there are mattress toppers for all beds. There is room in the front corner bedroom to fit a foldaway cot, for an additional short term guest (2 cots located in closets). We also have a Graco Pack-and-Play portable crib which can sleep an infant or small toddler and a booster seat which can be attached to a dining room chair. There are two full bathrooms, one located off the master bedroom and the other off the hallway at the other end of the house where the other three bedrooms are located. Both baths are bright, clean, and have a tub and shower unit in addition to new fixtures. Bath towels, wash cloths and beach towels are all in good condition. The master bedroom is located at one end of the house and is quite private from the rest of the house, and hallway doors can be closed in such a way as to enhance the feeling of peace and quiet in this apartment-like part of the house. All hardwood floors throughout the house have been recently sanded and refinished, giving the house a bright and clean look. Exterior of the house has also been recently painted.
There is a shed in the yard– though we do not clean it as it is not meant for anything more than storage…. And we also have a generator, in the event that power goes out for any reason.
The land is gorgeous – the portion of the lot that the house is located on is level and raised from the street so there are views of the hills and valley across the street, and we have Adirondack chairs and chaise lounges for you to relax in, during the spring, summer and fall months. There is also a patio dining table and six chairs, as well as an umbrella available outside during the summer and fall. Our land also includes a field next door to the house, which goes up the hill and is a fun place to play and sled and snowshoe in the wintertime. (We provide 6-8 small plastic sleds for your use). The land also continues across the street, where there is another field to explore, and which abuts a marshy area.
Our house is simple, comfortable and an ideal rental for one, two or three couples or extended families, who love nature but enjoy the advantages of being very close to both cultural and all types of outdoor recreational activities. Also ideal for larger family get-togethers or celebrations, due to the configuration of the land and the private but convenient location.

- "This was a perfect location for a reunion of college girlfriends. The house was exactly the right space for us to gather and visit together after a number of years apart due to the pandemic. Cozy dining and living areas, the bedrooms were lovely, beds were comfortable, there was ample parking space, and we were made to feel welcome in so many ways. The well-stocked and appointed kitchen meant we could enjoy a casual first evening together noshing on snacks and apps while people made their way there, and linger over coffee and breakfast in the morning while people got up and got ready for the day. The town of Woodstock was an easy drive from the house. The host was extremely responsive and very helpful in leaving detailed information about the house and the area. I can’t recommend this house enough. Five stars all around!"

- "We had an incredible stay at this special home nestled at the top of a hill in the woods. Everything was perfect and comfortable! Thanks to Heidi!" - "We loved our week stay. The home was very clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to work with. We especially enjoyed the screened porch. The trails were used by us every day. And it was a perfect location." - "My wife and I rented Starry Hill for the entire month of October for our first trip to Vermont. It fulfilled our dreams of a comfortable cabin/house in the woods. Locals said the tree color was the most vivid ever and the weather was unusually wonderful. We loved it. Heidi and Robert were fantastic hosts. We have stayed at many VRBOs and B&Bs around the country. This was definitely one of the best."

- "Due to the 1,000-year storm that ravaged Vermont the weekend before, the owner was very kind in permitting us to cancel, despite there being a no-cancellation policy and the house being technically accessible and in good condition; we greatly appreciated the offer, but we chose to file a claim under our travel insurance instead rather than impact the owner. Note that this was a highly unusual situation that should not be construed as changing the owner's standard policies in any way. Communications were timely and very clear. Ratings regarding listing accuracy and cleanliness were required, so we had to respond based on listing and post-storm photos; we have no reason to believe that they aren't accurate, however (we are very familiar with the area and have seen the house and property before). We would definitely recommend this property based on our experience."

- "This was the perfect place to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Woodstock was a place we frequented throughout our dating years and our marriage. This home was close to town but private. It was absolutely beautiful inside and easy to get to. The owners were communicative from the moment we booked and responded promptly with any questions. It was so easy. We were able to go into town, and come back and relax at the house. It was absolutely perfect. It was as advertised as well. There were no surprises. We will definitely go back and we're looking forward to bringing our kids with us next time."

We live 10 minutes away & often are working onsite for the restaurant & grounds.

Check in & out is self directed.
We value your privacy. Please let us know if we can help in any way.
Other things to note

The private half bathroom adjacent the bedroom is spacious with a toilet & large sink area with a personal coffee maker. PLEASE!!! if you are not a down-to-earth, laid-back nature, loving individual this place is not for you. We typically do not allow folks with less than five reviews. If you’re unable to walk 50 paces on a path with grass, leaves, sticks, and sometimes snow this place is not for you. Campers, hikers, snowboarders and skiers do great here and frequently repeat. You should have some low level ruggedness in your attitude and even patience at times. If you’re not willing to give constructive feedback in person or in our notepad and quick to be critical and negative in the reviews please don’t apply. I will review speak for themselves with a combined number of states approaching 500 with almost a perfect five star review we don’t mess around and sometimes things go wrong. If you do not take this into account, please don’t book! We share the majority of the proceeds with local charities so we do our best to not only make sure our guests have at least a good time but we also do what we can to avoid difficult personalities. Sorry if that’s too blunt, if it is, this place is not for you. And one final reminder. This place is run by a caring, loving and down-to-earth family who works very hard to make sure their guests have a good time. We are not a Hilton, we are also one of the most affordable nightly rates in town.

The space
The space is the entire 2nd floor of a barn on a larger (5 acre) property. Tons of rustic charm, with wide plank wood floors, slab counter tops, rough timber edge accents everywhere and lots of large windows. The floor plan is very open between the dining area, the living room space and the kitchen. There are two bedrooms: a master with a king bed and a large walk-in closet; and a smaller guest room with a day bed and second twin mattress underneath, as well as ample closet space. The bathroom has a large shower with tub and a beautiful slab counter top. The kitchen is equipped with all new appliances, including a dishwasher, and loads of culinary gadgets. There is a smart TV to connect to your Netflix/Hulu/Amazon (etc) accounts and EC Fiber high-speed wireless. The mudroom has lots of space for winter gear, beach chairs, coolers, whatever you have – so you don't have to keep it all in the car. There is also a washer and dryer for you to use as you need. The house comes stocked with the basics as far as laundry detergent, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, trash bags--but anything you don't find you can easily grab right across the street at the general store that is open everyday.
Please note: the stairs to the space have handrails and a child gate at the top. These stairs are a bit steep so those who have mobility issues should give this consideration.
The outside space is not only beautiful but also functional. The house has it's own patio and lawn with lots of room for Bocci, badminton, picnicking etc, a tennis court (with pickleball lines as well), and the rest of the shared property is yours to use.

(There is also an unlisted space that provides room for another 4 people - please inquire.) We are happy to offer a discount if you want properties together.

Interesting the world's best 19th-century American psychoanalyst vacationed next door and owned this place. He would send his patients here for tea. My great aunt ( a most loyal patient) bought it in the 1920s Her chauffeur and maid stayed here while she enjoyed the Woodstock Inn. Hint a Newporter and New Yorker and famous woman! Only had tea here.
