- "Stayed in Mountainview while my daughter attended a dance workshop for the week. The beds, sheets, and pillows we’re comfortable. We stayed during a very humid heat wave, and the two mini splits in the bedrooms were sufficient to cool off the entire living space. The owners are on site and available for questions, but also gave us privacy and space. They offered vegetables and herbs from their gardens. There are many outdoor seating areas to enjoy. The property is well off the road but easily accessible to the downtown and major routes. I would highly recommend staying here!"

There are other tenants who share this 2+ acre property and we ask all our guests to be courteous of one another while enjoying its peaceful, park-like setting along the Mill River.

The historic Hill-Ross Farm is listed on the National Historic Registry
for being a stop along the Underground Railroad, along with other attributes.

Hill-Ross Homestead features a 19th-century farmhouse - the home for two important figures in the abolitionist movement, Samuel Lapham Hill and Austin Ross. Samuel Hill purchased the farm in 1841 from the Northampton Silk Company. In 1842, Hill and others founded the Northampton Association of Education and Industry, an organization with strong abolitionist views. The Association chose to locate in the Broughton’s Meadow (now Florence) section of Northampton due to the community’s thriving silk industry. Free laborers, rather than enslaved workers, produced silk, increasing the industry’s popularity among abolitionists. The Association’s property, including the Hill-Ross Farm, provided a store, school, common eating area and living space for its members. Because of the strong presence of the Association and silk manufacturers, Northampton became a haven for African Americans and abolitionists. Northampton proper often served as a stop for fugitive slaves traveling to Canada, and Association members encouraged fugitives’ permanent settlement.

The bathroom is 1 full bath with a shower and tub and a second bath that's a half bath on first floor. The host provided us with a lot of nice details about the home and local spots to visit in the area. We'd be happy to stay here again."

1. ACCESSIBILITY:
* Front door - flat path from driveway - then one step up to doorway & another step over threshold.
* Once inside - 2 steps up to dining/kitchen area, & also 2 steps up to main floor den/bedroom area with attached toilet/sink - standard size door & fixtures. Note there are no doors on the two entryways to this area (the entryway from kitchen has no steps). Tim slept here while convalescing from hip replacement surgery.
* The only shower/bath is on second floor with standard 13-step stairway.

2. INTERNET: We have fast (100 mbps download) Xfinity/Comcast wireless internet & basic cable TV. Our Vizio TV comes with a ROKU so guests are welcome to use their own Netflix or Hulu, etc. or attach their Smartphone to our HDMI cable (you will need your own adaptor).

3. EARLY CHECKIN/LATE CHECKOUT: Keep in mind we are always close to 100% occupancy, which means that there is almost always one or multiple guests (up to 6) before & after you - so often we need the entire 11-4 housekeeping window - message Michelle with your request the evening before if possible (at which point we will have latest info).

4. NO SMOKING (or open flames, candles, “scents” allowed inside (or within 30 ft. of building);
4. CHECKING OUT: No need to make beds, do dishes, etc. (in fact we prefer if you don’t:) - just message Michelle when you are ready to leave, set the heat to 60F in winter, close all windows, and make sure to lock the front door.

Use the Elizabeth St sidewalk. At the stairs, take a right and follow the brick paver walkway to the back of the house. There you'll find your private entrance, a white door with keypad lock. Once inside, you'll enter a mudroom where you can leave your shoes, coats, luggage and even bicycles. then into the main space which is furnished and decorated with care.

The fully functional kitchen is equipped with an induction burner, Breville toaster oven, microwave, Keurig, custom wooden countertops, pots, pans, dishes and everything you might need to prepare a meal.

This is a renovated basement apartment which has a new mini-split so it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It’s also light and bright with windows in the main space, and a large atrium window (which also functions as an emergency exit) with a blackout shade in the bedroom. We’re obsessed with atmosphere so there are sliders on all the light switches, as well as standing and table lamps to help you get the lighting just right.

There’s a super comfortable queen bed and sleeper sofa with luxury bedding to sleep 4, and high speed Wifi, so you can work at either the dining table or work nook, and stream shows or movies with the Roku.

The space
This is a second floor suite in a licensed Airbnb. The space had a queen bed, twin bed in separate area but no door between those areas.
A big private bathroom with a sanitized jacuzzi tub with a shower option is next the twin bed. The jacuzzi tub is 2 feet tall, and it might be hard to get in and out for ceitain population.
The outside of the room on the landing is a table and two chairs to dine and get some work done.

Comfortable room in my house located near downtown yet nestled in a semi-rural neighborhood. Easy walking paths around the dike and country roads leading through farm fields near the Connecticut River. Near Amtrak, city buses, coffee shops and restaurants in town.

The space
Come stay in a sweet, calming private room with bath and own entrance off the back deck. Beautiful hardwood floors warm the space. Walk to town, Smith College or stroll around the dike and through the meadows by the river.

The space is light, airy and has a peaceful feel about it. It has its own heating and cooling system that can be adjusted to your comfort level. The space is for a maximum of two travelers. There is a 2-night minimum stay requirement. No guests please.

The room does have internet access though it can be spotty. If you need to work and are dependent on using the internet probably best not to rely on a consistent connection.

The room, private bath and deck entrance area are completely separate from the rest of the house. Guests are welcome to use the stone patio and back yard during the warm weather. To enter the space, take a short walk around the side of the house by the garden, go up the deck stairs and around the corner of the house - you have arrived at your entrance!

During your stay
I am a working professional, and guests with structured itinerary are the best match for the space. I am usually available in the early evenings and by my cell phone as needed. The room includes plenty of information about local sites and resources.

Other things to note
The space has a maximum capacity of two people. Parking is available in my drive way for one car. Cars can park on the street most of year. Exception is winter when there is a snow emergency. My cat keeps me company in the main part of my house. She's not allowed in the Air B&B room but does wander in once in awhile when I'm cleaning. Guests with mild allergies do fine in the space but those will severe cat allergies would be best served finding a cat-free space. I do not allow guests' pets in the space in effort to reduce animal allergies.

A comfortable bedroom located on the 2nd floor of a historic home, this space is centrally located in downtown Northampton, minutes from main st, Smith College, Academy of Music. Close to I-91, within easy driving distance to all five colleges, and just 20 minutes to Springfield with its own private parking.

With past lives as a home, an office building, and a school for women mechanics, 70 Old South is now a charming short-term rental in a house with historically informed interiors.

The space
Our cosy room is located on the second floor of the historic Hortense Williams Clapp Bollard house.

Built in 1893, the home was lovingly restored by William Turomsha at Ms. Clapp's request in 1999. A beautiful mix of late Victorian architectural features and the emerging Arts and Crafts movement, the house preserves much of its original woodwork on the inside and features projecting bays, decorative finials, and running porches with a grand octagon providing three stories of external access.

The two-story carriage house on the property featured a mechanics workshop at one point and was where the famous aviator Amelia Earhart received some of her early education in motor mechanics in a program run by Smith College to provide mechanical skills to women in wartime.

Today, 70 Old South has been made accessible to the public as a charming short-term rental in Northampton MA. The first floor of the building consists of a suite of rooms accessible to guests, including a library, living room, and dining room. The cosy living room features windows that hint of the Arts and Crafts movement to come, in juxtaposition with carved wooden fireplaces there that feature delicately hand-painted tiles.

The second floor houses the original bedrooms of the house, while the third floor formerly housed the servant's quarters but is now set up as a comfortable two-bedroom apartment.

This bedroom features a plush king-sized bed with a firm memory foam mattress topped with 100% cotton bedsheets, with its own work desk.

Guests on this level have access to the original bathroom of the house, with lighting features that recall the fact that the house was the first house in the city to have gas lights back in the day!

The house is centrally located with Northampton's Academy of Music, bustling restaurants, cafes and shops are just steps away. It is a less than five-minute drive to Smith College, Tri-County Fairgrounds, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and the I-90.

20 minutes from South Hadley (Mount Holyoke College), 20 minutes from Amherst (UMass Amherst, Amherst College, Hampshire College), and just 20 minutes from downtown Springfield (MGM, Baystate Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Big E). With convenient access to the Hadley Mall (10 minutes) and the Holyoke Mall (10 mins) and the West Springfield Shopping Area (less than 10 minutes). It’s also just 45 minutes from Bradley International Airport.

Area attractions within a 30-minute drive include the Six Flags, Big E, Basketball Hall of Fame, Volleyball Hall of Fame, and Tri-County Fairgrounds. Not to mention dinosaur footprints, spectacular orchards and farms with organic produce, antiquing gems, corn mazes, and more.

We are located just next to the Northampton Rail Trail System with loads of beautiful biking and hiking trails. We'd be happy to share some of our favorite hiking spots! Rent a kayak on the Connecticut River in Hadley, sample yummy local produce, explore historic Northampton with its lively restaurant scene, and grab some ice cream at the legendary Herrell’s!

I've often had long-term guests in this space as it is such a comfortable space. If you're interested in a longer booking and don't see future dates available, please message me nonetheless, as I sometimes block dates off for when I'm traveling, but if you're a long-term guest, that wouldn't matter as much.

As is our usual practice, we ask that interested guests let us know what brings them to the area.

My much-loved mid-century kit house is tucked away on a quiet little street one mile from the center of Northampton. It's just a few feet from a conservation area and a block from the bike path. Just about everything you'll need is within an easy mile. has a private entrance and is large and immaculate, with what may be the worlds most comfortable bed! The bathroom is new, spa-like, and spacious, with a tub that's made for soaking.

The space
My home is a vintage kit house, built in the 1950s. From the street, it looks like a tiny cottage in a big perennial garden. But looks are deceptive. Walk along the path on the west side of the house and you'll not only find more garden, but also a large addition containing a roomy master suite. The suite has excellent light (and good shades), is on the first floor, and is surrounded by garden views. (If you have mobility concerns, this suite is probably not for you. The bed is high, there is no standing shower, and the paths are rustic. Also, you probably won't be able to roll your suitcase down the wood chip paths.)

Guest access
You'll access the house from a rear entrance, entering through a screened-in porch and mudroom. In season, the screen porch is furnished with a rocker and a garden table and chairs. You are welcome to enjoy the garden itself, which offers a chaise and a couple of seating areas, any time during the day or early evening—weather permitting!

During your stay
I run a nonprofit from home, so I'm generally available to help out if you need anything. I enjoy my privacy and will certainly respect yours. You'll be able to reach me by text between 7AM and 9PM, or by ringing my doorbell anytime. And you can expect to find me in the garden from time to time.

Other things to note
For your convenience, your room is equipped with a French press (Bring your favorite blend!), a kettle, a microwave, microwave-safe dishes, mugs & glasses, an ice bucket, a vintage ice crusher, and a small refrigerator-freezer. I won't be washing your dishes, but the bathroom sink is large enough for the job, and I'll make sure you have some dish detergent and towels on hand. There is also a mini-recycling station & a hand vac—just in case.

This house has 4-legged creatures but not allowed in the Guest Room; they are kept contained downstairs in the rear of the house except for sleeping in my bedroom with me at night.

Sanitation is guaranteed at my home - all bath and bed linens, including bedspread, washed in very hot water prior to your arrival. Bathroom is sanitized prior to your visit, including handles (silly isn't it, but some cleaners forget that we touch the handles more than anything else!!).

The suite is on the FIRST FLOOR and can be entered through the front entrance of the house. Once inside you will be in a hallway with a staircase. The door to your suite is on the first floor at the end of the short hallway.
Visitors are invited to park one car in the driveway next to the house. My wife and I live in the back of the house if issues come up and you should need anything.

If you would like to bring your bike, it is a 5 minute ride into the center of Northampton. There is also the Norwottuck Rail Trail which connects the communities of Hadley, Amherst, Belchertown, Northampton, and Easthampton.

2 bedroom 2 bathroom home in the Faculty neighborhood adjoining Smith College. One queen mattress upstairs and one twin downstairs. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. Newly renovated with a modern interior and classic exterior, my house is a 12min walk from Smith along the river, and 20min from downtown (by bike: 5, 7 min).

There is lots of light coming in the windows and plenty of window treatments to keep light out!

There is comfortable furniture through out and a kitchen that includes a table and 4 chairs for cooking and dining.
The bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a futon couch in the TV room that can be converted, at your request by me, into a full size bed.
The television is a Samsung 42" high definition , wall mounted.
