Cozy Guest House on the Road to Yellowstone!
Cabin
Cody, Wyoming, USA

The Wapiti Bear Den is the perfect place to get away from it all. Situated on 4 private acres, we're surrounded by the soaring Absaroka mountains and the quiet of nature. The Bear Den is located in beautiful Wapiti, Wyoming, just 30 minutes from the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and 20 minutes from Cody, Wyoming. This spacious one bedroom guest house was newly remodeled with rustic western decor and includes air conditioning, a full bath, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living room with a queen size sleeper sofa.

After a day of exploring, you can kick back on your own patio and enjoy the mountain views and wide open spaces. If cooking is your passion, prepare dinners on the outdoor grill or in the Bear Den's full kitchen. Wireless internet, HULU TV, a DVD player/DVD library and a collection of books, are also provided during your stay. During hot summer days, turn up the AC to keep cool and comfortable. The Wapiti Bear Den has all the comforts of home plus Yellowstone country right out your front door.

Our location between Cody, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park makes the Bear Den the ideal home base to explore the area. The road west to Yellowstone's East Entrance travels through a wide canyon carved by the pristine North Fork of the Shoshone River, where wildlife and rugged beauty abound. President Theodore Roosevelt called this scenic byway 30 of the most beautiful miles in America.

The gateway town of Cody, Wyoming, lies 20 miles to the east of the Bear Den. Cody, known as "The Rodeo Capital of the World", offers a nightly rodeo in the summer months, along with shopping, dining, and the must-see Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a complex of five museums featuring art and artifacts of the American West.

For the horse lover, the McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area, home to over 100 wild horses, is just a short drive from the Bear Den. Located 20 miles east of Cody, Wyoming, McCullough Peaks boasts bands of flashy pintos, colorful sorrels and speckled sabinos, along with pronghorn, sage grouse, prairie dogs, and other native wildlife.

The Bear Den is also a short drive from the Beartooth Highway – a National Scenic Byways All-American Road. This 68 mile byway winds its way through southwest Montana and northwest Wyoming and leads into Yellowstone National Park at its Northeast Entrance. It's a must see!

If fly fishing is your passion, the Bear Den is located less than a five minute drive to fishing access on the renowned Shoshone River. The North Fork of the Shoshone hosts rainbow trout, mountain whitefish, brook trout, Yellowstone cutthroat, brown trout, rainbow-cutthroat hybrids and some lake trout on the lower stretches of the river.

Whether you spend your time exploring Yellowstone or visiting the Cody/Wapiti area, the outdoor recreation possibilities of northwest Wyoming are endless. Hiking, fishing, horseback-riding, photography, bird watching, wildlife watching, and biking are just a few of the many recreational pursuits that you can enjoy during your stay. With their thorough knowledge of the area, Sandy and Steve can answer any questions you might have to help make your stay the best it can be.

- "The cabin was great!! Close to bear tooth pass,Close to Yellowstone, Away from the crowds. My family loved staying here." - "We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin on the river. The water levels were high on the river and it was flowing fast. You could hear it in the evening and it was a soothing sound to fall asleep to. I loved the attention to detail these hosts offered. They had a really nice pile of split wood to use in the fire pit and we truly enjoyed many evenings there. The grill on the deck, was top quality. One of the best we've used in a long time. Everything you could possibly need was made available for your comfort inside the home. The beds were super comfortable as well. It was a quiet road and well kept property. The only thing that was difficult was the distance it took to get to any town. You are truly "isolated" out there on the river."

We’re sad to inform you that our nice big Akita dog, Rooster, passed away on November 1st 2023. It has been a very hard time for our family as he was the best family member we could have ever wished for. We know that he will be greatly missed by our guests as well. It will take some getting used to by us all, to not have him keeping an eye out for us all.
On that note, we’re excited to announce that we welcomed a new little Akita pup to our family. He was born October 5th 2023. His name is Napoleon “Dynamite” Bonaparte. He is the runt of the litter and just the sweetest little guy. We know we can’t replace Rooster, but if Napoleon is just a little bit of what he was, he will too be a great part of our family.

We also have Ellie-girl. She’s such a little firecracker and filled with personality. She is funny and loving and a great addition to our family. Furthermore, we rescued and golden retriever mix, Rita the fall of 2022 and she’s a sweetheart. She and Ellie really likes to get themselves into some trouble. All friendly, loving dogs. - "The cabin itself is very cute and clean. We enjoyed what little time we spent there. It is however, an hour away from Yellowstone’s East entrance rather then the 35 minutes quoted. Also for guest knowledge, there are no closets or dressers so be prepared to live out of your suitcase as there is nowhere to put your belongings." - "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owner was very nice. Recommended some very good restaurants in Cody and a grocery store, so we could buy a few groceries. The cabin was very clean and sufficient for our 3 day stay. We cooked breakfast and pack our lunch for our day trips into Yellowstone! Would stay here again if we ever make it out this way! Thank you for a wonderful stay!"

Other things to note

So, if you’re a dog person, this is most definitely the place to be.

- "I was blown away by this cabin stay. Just outside of Cody so we were close to amenities and activities yet far away enough to feel like a country get-away. Sitting on the deck was peaceful and full of sounds of local birds. The rustic cabin was clean and full of amenities I did not expect like a hair dryer, AC unit, and coffee supplies. Much more than Ive gotten in other rustic cabins. The property was easy to find due to effective signage, and the host consistently answered my questions in less than 24 hours. The walls of the cabin are thin so you can hear your neighbors well. However, most people are gone during the day and shutting the bathroom door provides additional buffer between units. We had no problems sleeping. A bonus was being visited by the ranch dogs. Each one was so sweet and well-mannered, provided us company, and helped us miss our german shepherds a little less. Without a doubt, we would stay here again and would recommend the cabin to our family and friends who we love dearly."

Buckshots Bunkhouse in the Wapiti Valley
Cabin
Cody, Wyoming, USA

Welcome to my bunkhouse. I wasn't always so welcoming, being an ole rodeo cowboy and outlaw. I was always on the move in those days. I guess you can say the Wapiti Valley claimed me on one of those days. My hope is it claims you too and that you enjoy not only the comforts within the 650 square foot bunkhouse, but also the awe of a starry Wyoming night, the peacefulness of the mountain views and the wonder of it all.
There's a lot to discover as you hit the trail 30 minutes to the West is Yellowstone or 30 minutes to the East is the great town of Cody. Pull back the reins and take it all in!
Oh, there will be buckaroos at times caring for this 5 acre special place, so say howdy! And when it comes time to pack your saddle bags, remember Happy Trails to you, until we meet again under the Wyoming sky!

- "We had such a wonderful stay with Sue in this cabin. All the facilities (Cabin, bathrooms, outdoor play areas) were clean and well-maintained. Each cabin has a fridge and an AC unit, which made our stay pleasant and comfortable. The bathrooms (one had a shower, the other had an actual bathtub) were great, and it was a relief for us to be able to give our kids actual baths at the end of a long day of playing outdoors. Laundry machines are available to do a quick load of laundry, and Sue even made us some cookies (which were EXCELLENT)! Couldn't recommend this place more! Would definitely come back if we are in the area!"

- "The pictures don’t really do this cabin justice. It’s located on top of the ridge with great views of the surrounding area. Get a cup of coffee and enjoy the sunrise from the porch each morning. Located about 80 miles from Yellowstone. Thanks for a great week." - "We loved our stay in this one-room cabin. It had everything we needed—modest cooking utensils, bathroom, comfy bed, peace and quiet, and access to lots of hiking. Hosts were very quick to respond and be helpful. Only word of caution would be if you don’t like dogs. There were several very large dogs next door who frequently came over to visit. Super friendly, but if you were trying to grill outside, it could been challenging to keep them out of the food."

So, if you’re a dog person, this is most definitely the place to be.

We also have horses and a mini donkey grazing around the property at times. They are super friendly, but approach at own risk.

Riverside Cowboy Cabin
Cabin
Fremont County

A homey comfortable cabin on a private stretch of the trout-filled Wind River. A retreat for fly fishermen, nature lovers and families with rambunctious children. Inside we have a classic wood stove for those chilly nights. Although secluded, the cabin is 2 miles from the center of Dubois-a town still claiming Old West charm. Less than an hour from Grand Teton & Yellowstone, the cabin is ideal for day trips to both. Jackson is less than 2 hours away for those missing the glitz and glamour.

The space
The cabin has all of the amenities-a fully stocked kitchen for cooking, with seasonings, coffee, dishes, pots & pans. The laundry room has detergent. The fire pit has wood. And one grill has charcoal & lighter fluid. The other grill is electric. There are even skewers for s’mores.
Here is the layout of the cabin: a master bedroom with queen bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower. An IKEA full sofa/bed in the kitchen topped with an additional mattress when needed. A queen sofa/bed in the TV room topped with a real queen mattress as well. Please note that there is only 1 bathroom and the entrance is through the bedroom.
We try to stick to 100% cotton linens and fragrance-free chemicals in cleaning. The scent of the pine trees and sage are lovely enough.
Of course, there is Yellowstone for day trips. As well as the glitzy town of Jackson for its restaurants and shopping. Each are roughly an hour and 45 minutes from the cabin. But there is so much more right around here.
We have lots and lots of repeat guests. A number of them come a few times and then decide to make Dubois their home. In fact, that is exactly what your hosts did those many years ago.

Guest access
A big, marshmallow-roasting fire pit and a gazebo on the banks of the river are exclusive to guests in the cabin.

Other things to note
