- "Everything was as described. Great stay and my family looks forward to return trip. " - "We had a couple of hiccups in the process but the was a great experience overall. It was difficult to find the cabin because we got there after dark and there wasn't a lot of lighting. It was resolved quickly. We didn't have hot water in one of the bathrooms and in that same room there was an issue with the lamp. These were very minor issues and we were so excited and grateful for this experience. We loved the property over all and will not only stay again, we highly recommend this property. "

- "Great stay" - "We fell in love with the cabin when we arrived! You can fall asleep to the sound of running water on a hot summer day, and with a cute dog to keep us company, I'm sure you'll love it too. We will definitely be back again!" - "We stayed at Chris’ cabin for a weekend getaway to float the Frio. The location is far enough away to be away from everything and close enough to Leakey to quickly get to town for your dining and activities! Upon arrival at the cabin, we found it secluded even though it’s next door to the host. You can tell she took great effort to provide privacy for her guests. Walking into the cabin we found a personal note and a bottle of wine which was such a nice touch! Chris provided drinking water and gave us a run down of the cabin and it’s amenities. If you’re looking to relax, this cabin is quiet except for the sound of running water from the creek below the bluff. We saw deer, turkeys, foxes and tons of birds including Cardinals everywhere and hummingbirds who came right up to the palapa while we lounged around and watched! Chris had great recommendations for the local eateries and activities and check in on us several times during our stay! Great experience, would definitely stay again!"

Solomon's Den offers a romantic escape in the Lost Maples Region - the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It is designed for couples who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and find time to reconnect and relax. Inside the cabin you will find a wood burning fireplace as well as central air/heat, living area, king size bed with a unique headboard made from reclaimed wood from the property, kitchenette, dining table and double whirlpool bathtub.
The "bedroom" is located up on a two step platform area which overlooks the living area and fireplace. A few feet to the right of the bed, the double whirlpool bathtub is sunken into the floor (no shower). The kitchenette offers a full size stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans and dishes. Coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, trash bags, paper towels and dish soap are provided.
We do provide linens and towels. The towels are for bathing only and should not be taken off of the property or used outside.
Solomon's Den, and four other cabins are located on 6 acres between Vanderpool and Leakey on RR 337, one of Texas' most scenic highways. This area is known for it's two lane country roads that meander between steep sided canyons. It has been referred to as the "Swiss Alps of Texas" and is popular with motorcyclists and bicyclists. The cabin is located on a county maintained road, The Lower Sabinal River Road, right off of 337. It is a perfect road for taking a leisurely walk and enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery and possible wildlife viewing.
A complimentary bottle of wine is included and guest robes are provided for use during your stay.
There is a camp fire ring available that can be used when the area is not under a county burn ban. Firewood for the outdoor fire pit can be purchased from the Lost Maples Country Store, 4 miles up the road. Also available on the grounds is a BBQ grill (bring your own charcoal), picnic table, outdoor chairs and a hammock.
Solomon's Den is conveniently located to Lost Maples State Natural Area, Garner State Park, the Frio River, as well as the cities of Vanderpool, Utopia, Leakey, Bandera and Kerrville.
Lost Maples State Natural Area is about 7 miles from the cabin. Garner State Park is about 18 miles, while Leakey is about 10 miles. There are many places to begin a floating trip along the Frio River, all of which would be within 45 miles of the cabin, some closer than others. For more information please visit the various web sites for that area.
Utopia is a small town where you will find a few shops, restaurants and a 9 hole golf course. The movie, "Seven Days in Utopia" was filmed there. It is about 15 miles from the cabin.
Bandera is known as the Cowboy Capital of the World and offers various rodeos and "cowboy activities" throughout the year, as well as shopping, restaurants and bars. It is about 45 miles from the cabin.
Kerrville is a little over 45 miles from the cabin and is the nearest city where you will find an HEB, Wal-Mart, Specs etc.
The cabin is located on the second story of a two story building, although it is still very private as the area below is not a rental space and only used for storage. Being on the second story affords excellent views of the mountains.
Once you make a reservation you will be provided with specific directions, check-in instructions and a list of things to do in the area. Some of the most popular attractions include The Laurel Tree Guest Table Restaurant and Tree House Dining Room, Mac and Ernie's Roadside Eatery which has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Bizarre Foods as well as several other publications, floating the Frio River, hiking at Lost Maples State Natural Area and Garner State Park, rodeos in Bandera and much more.
You'll enjoy bird watching, star gazing, wildlife viewing and many more nature centered activities that provide for a refreshing, relaxing vacation.
If you're looking for a true romantic escape without hindrances, Solomon's Den offers an "unplugged" experience with no cell service, or satellite TV. We do provide a video library in the cabin with some oldies but goodies, and you are welcome to download a movie and use the 43" smart TV to view it. AT&T and T Mobile do provide service in the area but it is spotty due to the mountains. The closest cell service is about 4 miles up the road in Vanderpool. FAST, RELIABLE AND SECURE INTERNET IS AVAILABLE AT EACH CABIN. Now you'll have more choices as to how you want to "unplug".
- "Enjoyed our stay. Thanks" - "From the moment we arrived, it was everything we could imagine. The scenery was stunning, the facility was comfortable, and inviting, the room was cozy and felt like it was meant for us. We absolutely loved being here and cannot wait to return. We spent an extended weekend, traveling back-and-forth toward Utopia and Concan. One day we even went over and spent the day on the Nueces river. All easy drives with absolutely stunning scenery. I just cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thank you so much for sharing."

If you are looking for a beautiful location to get away from the crazy and reconnect with your family, this is the place!"

Enjoy the communal fire pit w/ grill, cornhole and tetherball. Watch the the Axis and WhiteTail deer from your front porch. Help yourself to freshly laid eggs from the chicken coop or grab some home grown veggies from the garden. You and your family can rest easy within the fully fenced property and security system. Suite Sheds is a local, family owned business. We look forward to hosting you.
- "A quaint little cabin off the beaten path. Very simple and spacious with plenty of sleeping space. Our family really enjoyed the front porch with the benches, with plenty of room and shade! Our girls absolutely loved the fact they could go and get there own eggs from the coop! This is definitely going to be the cabin for us for years to come!" - "The place is very cute and the area is quiet. My stepson really enjoyed the chickens and the wooden boat that was built for kids. The owner is super nice and quick to respond to questions. We were bummed we weren’t able to tube the river but the owner gave us a suggestion of a place to go to enjoy the river. "

Many properties are near Lost Maples State Natural Area (SNA), although few are as close as The Cottage. Only 7 miles away from Lost Maples SNA, the Cottage is in close proximity to all activities in the Lost Maples Region, Sabinal Canyon and Frio Canyon areas. The Cottage is part of a 6 acre property that includes 4 other cabins that are nestled in a valley between Vanderpool and Leakey. Located right off of FM 337 you'll be positioned to branch out to a multitude of local activities such as tubing the Frio River, golfing at the Utopia Golf Course where Robert Duvall filmed "Seven Days in Utopia", Garner State Park and more. With tall, dense, mature stands of Ashe juniper mixed with Texas Oaks and Lacey Oaks along the steep-sided canyons, this stretch of FM 337 has been designated as one of the most popular scenic highways in Texas and referred to as the "Swiss Alps of Texas".
The Cottage's interior offers wood beams, cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplaces, central air/heat, TV with VCR and/or DVD, video library, and an informal dining area with a fully equipped kitchenette (in-cabin coffee setup, microwave, full size refrigerator and stove, pots, pans and dishes). The open floor plan with a king size bed and bunk beds built into the wall makes it perfect for a family of 4 or a "girl's getaway".
From your private porch you can enjoy watching the many species of birds that visit the feeders. We even provide bird seed for you. And those squirrels! Who doesn't love to watch a squirrel as they try to steal seed from the feeder? There is a charcoal BBQ grill (BYOC), camp fire ring, picnic table and outdoor dining table available for you to enjoy as you soak up nature in one of the most beautiful, and peaceful settings in the hill country. Surrounded by mountains and oak trees, you'll love how the wind speaks to you as it rustles the leaves, beckoning for you to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. No cell phone service? No problem. Fast, reliable and secure internet is available at each cabin, giving you more choices in how you want to "unplug" . While you are at the cabins it's "you" time. It's about spending time with family or friends with no distractions. It's about leaving your worries and cares behind and reconnecting with what is important.
Located on the Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail, The Cottage offers good birding and wildlife viewing opportunities year round. The area is home to over 200 species of birds including the Golden-cheeked Warbler, Painted Bunting, Tufted Titmouse, Summer Tanager, Vermillion Flycatcher, Black-chinned Hummingbird and Black-capped Vireo.
In the nearby town of Utopia you can play golf on the 9 hole course where the movie 'Seven Days in Utopia' was filmed starring Robert Duvall, or enjoy an enchanted lunch or dinner on Saturdays at The Laurel Tree Guest Table Restaurant. The Laurel Tree is owned by Le Cordon Bleu Paris graduate Laurel Waters and offers a menu that changes weekly consisting of the freshest, seasonal ingredients. A unique private dining tree house built by Tree House Masters is also available on the Laurel Tree property by reservation only.
Mac and Ernie's Roadside Eatery is a more laid back option although the food is a special experience you won't want to miss. Mac and Ernie's is located about 35 miles from the cabin in Tarpley. Reservations are not necessary but highly recommended for parties of 8 people or more.
Local attractions include Lost Maples State Natural Area, Garner State Park, Hill Country State Natural Area, Frio River tubing, horseback riding, Devil's Sinkhole and Frio Bat Flights. There's plenty to do in the Tri-Canyon area, but sometimes you can find enjoyment in doing nothing at all. At The Cottage nature can provide the entertainment, and we provide the "rest". Sit back and relax at your cabin, cook on the grill and enjoy star gazing or making s'mores by the campfire.
Whether a romantic getaway for two or a family fun-packed vacation, The Cottage has something for everyone. Please Note: We are a 'No Pets' facility.
- "Quaint little cabin and a perfect getaway to disconnect and spend quality time together." - "I had a great time at the cottage. Its as advertised. Its quaint, disconnected, and you get a sense of the nature around you. If you're a serious cyclist, the 337 route is a challenge. I rode out to Camp Wood and back while I was here. There are some serious hills, but great views. :)" - "My parents loved the property and spoke very highly of the clean and accommodating cabin. Their only request would be to have a radio or TV for watching or listening to at nighttime. Other than that they had no complaints and are already planning a return trip."
