This log cabin was built in 1974, on land that has been in my family for many generations and abuts the Green Mountain National Forest and Mt. Snow. The cabin is situated on over 50 acres of private property, most of which is undeveloped and has conservation easements. There are endless opportunities for exploring the woods. It is about 3/4 mile from Mt. Snow and on the MOO-VER shuttle bus line.
We love our cabin, and it has many personal items, including original artwork and antiques, many books, comfortable-but-not-all-new furniture, and many games, puzzles and kids toys. This is not your typical rental cabin. This cabin is ideal for a family or for a quiet retreat by a single or couple, or two couples/families. Whether you enjoy hiking, skiing, star-gazing by an outdoor campfire, making meals together, sitting on the porch with a favorite novel, or curled up by the fireplace playing monopoly – this is the place for you. This house is also an ideal artist’s retreat, with six generations of family artwork sprinkled about.

The Rea Family Log Cabin is located on the mountain side Handle Road, on over 50 acres of private property, with conservation easements. Whatever the season, this is an ideal location for exploring the woods. There are old logging roads that can be explored, a brook behind the house, etc. There are no well-maintained trails behind the house – so bring your hiking boots or snow shoes! I find these woods very easy to hike in – even for young children. They are beautifully green and mossy and there are no hazards to speak of. It’s a wonderful place to find a special rock, or pick up a hiking stick, find newts, climb up a mountain brook, or build a fairy house in the moss. In the autumn, these woods light up with glorious colors – truly a sight to behold. In the winter, it’s a wonderful place to explore off-trail snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

The house will be clean and ready for you when you arrive, with clean sheets and towels laid out for you. Bath soap and shampoo are supplied. All paper products are supplied. There are extra blankets in every bedroom, and extra sheets and towels in marked bins and in the downstairs hall closet. There are emergency first aid supplies in the bathrooms.

The Valley Trail is located at the end of the cabin driveway on Handle Road. This trail leads to the trail network in Dover and to Mount Snow. The Valley Trail is great for hiking, biking, walking your dog, pickleball, and frisbee golf. In the summer and fall, Mount Snow offers scenic chairlift rides, events, hiking and mountain bike trails. In winter, snow-shoe through the back woods or ski to the cabin if there is enough snow in the woods. Experts only!

Historic homes, other trail heads, and the Hermitage Club ski resort are also located on Handle Road. Mount Snow is located .5 miles north of the cabin and the Hermitage Club is located is 2 miles to the south. The town of Dover is close by and the town of Wilmington is a 10 minute drive from the house. Restaurants, ski lifts, lodges, bars, golf courses, and shops are all easily accessible from here.

The forest behind the home has been conserved. Animal travel from the forest to the wetlands and river located across the street can make for interesting wildlife viewing. Beyond the woods surrounding the home is the Green Mountain National Forest. Somerset Lake, Grout Pond, Mount Snow, Haystack, Bromley, and Stratton are all located within the GMNF.

The cabin was sustainably constructed out of wood logs. It is all-electric with the exception of the clothes dryer. The energy mix of the grid power supplied to the home is 100% carbon free, sourced primarily from renewable energy. Drive your EV and enjoy a zero-emission vacation!

- "A good location with access to lots of different activities. We enjoyed visiting Hogback Mountain for its wonderful views and shopping in the very walkable downtown Wilmington. Mount Stratton and Bromley Mountains were easy drives and offered some fun summer activities including a gondola ride and alpine slide. We had fun hiking and swimming around Pike Falls and especially enjoyed the on-site waterfalls/spring hole for our very own Scandinavian spa experience. The house was comfortable and clean with a great porch. Napping on the hammock was relaxing snd the star viewing was incredible. This house was a great find!"

Beautiful five bedroom, three bathroom log home ideally located close to Mt. Snow. This stunning ski house has two bedrooms one with a queen and one with a full bed and a bathroom with a shower on the first level, huge mud room for all your ski/snowboard equipment, a living room with a 65" TV and surround sound plus a laundry room. It also has a sauna for relaxing after a day of skiing.
On the main level there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two bunk beds (each bedroom has a TV) and a bathroom with a shower and a tub. A fully equipped kitchen is open to the dining room. There is a huge covered deck off the dining room with another dining table and a barbecue grill plus a sitting area. The living room has cathedral ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. There is a 60" TV above the fireplace. From the living room you walk out onto a deck with outdoor furniture to enjoy nature. The hot tub is located in the back of the house on the patio.
The third floor has a Master Suite with a balcony. There is a TV in the Master Bedroom.The en suite has a tub and a shower. A little area with a love seat is great for morning coffee. There is also a loft overlooking the living room with a desk for those that need to attend to business.
The house has air conditioning and a generator in case you lose power.
The house is located 5 miles (a 10 minute drive) away from Mt. Snow. Lake Raponda is about 10 minutes away if you want to enjoy a quiet day at the lake. Snowmobilers can enjoy the trails which are accessible from the neighboring street. The house is located on a dead end street with only three houses on it.
The house is equipped with a sound system throughout for entertaining. The cabin is warm and inviting with lots of natural wood perfect for relaxing.

The living rooms are bigger than they appear in the picture, the sauna and hot tub were well-maintained and very nice. I will echo that screens in the windows would be a nice addition, but the AC works very well. It is soooo quiet there, I truly felt away from it all. The kitchen is incredibly well-equipped, the best I have seen, making it easy to cook for a crowd. The grill may need updating though. Over all, a great stay, and we very much appreciate you sharing your beautiful home with us!"

The cabin does have a lot of trinkets/decorations which little hands might like to grab. Fun stay overall and the hot tub was a plus.
