Step back in time in this 16th century Grade ll listed cottage, situated on its own in 2.5 acres of woodland abundant in wildlife. Rabbits, foxes, squirrels. badgers deer and many species of birds are often seen. Because of it's location (the cottage is completely surrounded by moorland) it is a true walker's paradise. The moorland villages of Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chagford and Widecombe-in-moor are within 15 minutes drive.
Please note we only accept bookings from Friday to Friday.
There is no vehicular access to the property, you park at the top then walk 250m down hill through the woods, we supply a wheelbarrow for your luggage
The property is not suitable for those with walking difficulties
- "This cottage is a magical place. It is completely hidden from the world and breathes another time. Birds and squirrels come to visit, even a fox lives on the grounds. The fireplace is where you snuggle up at night - like once upon a time. Although we had to battle the damp due to very wet weather we had THE most wonderful week. Thank you, Clare, for having us." - "This place is so remote, with only wildlife for company. A gorgeous cottage set amongst the woods with the moors to one side. The cottage is so well equipped with lots of nice little homely touches and an amazing log burner. The garden full of birds complete with feeders and a small pond, beautiful to sit in on a warm day. You could spend the whole time here and not see a sole (apart from maybe the farmer on his tractor in the nearby fields). It is a bit of a walk to get down through the woods but so worth it when you get there. Getting back up the hill takes a little longer!! A true hidden little gem."

- "Holidays on Dartmoor are best done in just such a cottage ... picturesque, lovingly restored and still equipped with all modern conveniences (smart TV, Internet, modern kitchen, bathrooms, ...). We would like to express our compliments as follows: whenever we had reached the turning point of our day's hike, one of us said: "... wonderful and now we're going home". Thank you Melanie - we had a wonderful time. Family Bernhardt (Germany)" - "Two worlds meet in this historic cottage. The old cottage hardly has a straight line in it while the bathrooms and kitchen are bang up to date with everything you need. No mobile telephone service in the valley but excellent internet in the cottage (with a landline if you need it). The fireplace is impressive but tall people may be challenged by the low roof beams. We had an excellent Sunday lunch in the local pub which is three mins away. I recommend the cider. Lots of public footpaths nearby too."

Southmead Cottage is a recently totally renovated property in the stunning hamlet of Lettaford. This medieval hamlet is made up of just 5 properties which sits in the heart of Dartmoor. Southmead Cottage adjoins Southmead Farmhouse.
The Property has 3 bedrooms and has been refurbished to a very high standard throughout.
The cottage sits on a bridle path which takes you directly onto the High Moor so is perfect for those who enjoy donning their walking boots and forgetting their car for their stay. It sits directly on the Mariner’s Way, a beautiful walk that takes one from North to South Devon coasts.
For provisions, restaurants and excellent shopping, it sits between the 2 lovely towns of Chagford and Moretonhampstead .
Children can be delighted with The Miniature Pony Centre just a mile away and for a little spa or restaurant luxury, Bovey Castle is 1 1/2 miles away.
The cottage itself has 3 bedrooms , 2x doubles( well super king and king!) and a smaller room which has 2x bunk beds (adult size). There is a full bathroom downstairs and an ensuite for the upstairs.
There is WiFi throughout the cottage (bearing in mind it is rural Dartmoor so the speed is sometimes interrupted) and there is a television in the kitchen, upstairs and downstairs larger bedrooms.
We have 2x cotbeds and a high chair for those visiting with small children.
There is a washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and separate freezer and a well equipped kitchen.
The cottage has a small courtyard garden which can be accessed through a door in the downstairs bedroom as well as the kitchen.
We will consider well behaved dogs as long as they stay downstairs and not on the furniture!
We have a FRIDAY changeover.
We have always said we would want to make a holiday cottage one that we would want to visit and this is certainly it!
We look forward to welcoming you.
- "Simon and Sally and Monty were the most fantastic hosts and really looked after us. The cottage was spotless and looked even better than all the photos. Wonderful walks from the front door, wild swimming close by , and our dog loved it all too. Can’t thank them enough" - "We stayed in this wonderful cottage on the very edge of Dartmoor for about three weeks at the beginning of summer. A bridleway passes by the front door that takes you straight out into Dartmoor with endless hiking options. Another trail takes you over Maldon Hill to Chagford. Moretonhampstead is close by car for groceries and Exeter is only 45 minutes away. I recommend the Ordnance Survey Explorer map for Dartmoor. The paper map comes with a digital download for your phone. The quality of the beds is very important to us due to a bad back. The beds were very good. The cottage was fully equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty of space and very homey. When the bandwidth did not stream Netflix, we binged 4 seasons of Friends from the large collection of DVDs. Our O2 mobile phone did not work well in the area. We hiked to Chagford for breakfast at Folklore to catch up on text messages. Dog friendly! The cottage is dog friendly and the whole area is dog friendly. You can bring your dogs to almost all pubs and restaurants, and people do. I highly recommend this beautiful property for a short or long stay. Thank you Sally and Simon!"

Bovey Tracey is a beautiful and welcoming market town where the winding streets and picturesque parks provide the perfect environment for relaxation. The town is home to many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and attractions, each designed to assist those who wish to take time out and unwind.
The town's creative side, both historic and contemporary, can be seen in numerous shops and attractions across the town, including the House of Marbles and the internationally-renowned Devon Guild of Craftsmen, based in the 19th century water mill on the river, while the annual Contemporary Craft Festival is an event not to be missed.
Bovey Tracey gets its name from the river that flows through the westerly edge of the town and the de Tracey family who ruled over the area following the Norman Conquest. Its rich past can be revealed through stories and antiquities at the local Heritage Centre and with more than 100 listed buildings and architectural features to be found in the town.
All year, Bovey Tracey plays host to a wide range of valued and memorable events. From the fortnightly farmers market, and the fayre provided across each year by a host of contemporary craft markets, to the towns spot on the annual cycling Tour of Britain, there is much to see and do for those from nearby or far away.
It is Bovey’s location on the fringes of one of the UK’s largest national parks that provides much of its scenic charm. Just a few miles from the famous Haytor, Bovey Tracey is proud to be recognised by many as the gateway to Dartmoor; a landscape full of natural beauty, wildlife, and adventure.
There are pubs and inns that serve excellent food, such as the Welcome Stranger in Liverton, Halfway House in Bickington or, for that special celebration, Bovey Castle is only a few minutes drive. Ullacombe Farm is only one mile down the road which does excellent breakfasts or Brookside in Bovey. Also recommended are The Dolphin and Cromwell Arms as places serving good food and drink in the town.
The Dartmoor Whisky Distillery is located on an island in the Heart of Bovey Tracey in the historic 150-year-old Town Hall. In the Old Police Station you will find a visitors arrival centre, and souvenir shop, whilst in the main hall you will see the 'Still' operating, and a visitors centre attraction, and café.
The beaches on the south coasts of Devon and Cornwall are easily reached. Nearby attractions include National Trust properties such as Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo; or visit Becky Falls and historic Plymouth with The Hoe, Barbican and National Marine Aquarium. Exeter city is only 30 minutes' drive where you can enjoy the Quay and paddle in hire canoes or perhaps a little shopping in Princess Hay.

- "For the most part very happy with my stay at this property. Having off street parking was fantastic as the property is located in the heart of the village where on-street parking is limited. Getting into the spot was a little tricking as it is a small space that was partially taken up by a rolled up carpet. The property looks pretty plain from the outside, but had been updated nicely inside. The pictures in the posting are accurate to how the property looks. Lots of nearby shops, pubsz and take away food options, so that was nice. The host was very responsive, always responded quickly to my messages. The one major frustration for me was the listed said there was a washer AND dryer, but in reality, only a wash machine and a drying rack. I probably would have picked another property if I had known there was no dryer. All in all enjoyed my stay at Bovey Tracey"

Town: Bovey Tracey is a beautiful, small town known as "The Gateway to the Moor" lies tucked away in the River Bovey valley. The winding river that runs through Bovey Tracey gave the town its name, with "Tracey" standing for the family that held the manor following the Norman Conquest. It has a rich history that includes significant role in the English Civil War, which gave the town's bar, "The Cromwell Arms," which offers excellent ale and delectable food, its name. The History Centre, which is next to the Dartmoor National Park Authority, has information on the town's past. Together with the breath-taking Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery, which offers guided tours, Bovey Tracey offers a variety of shops and cafés. The Dartmoor National Park, which offers apparently infinite walking and cycling pathways as well as stunning scenery, is located right outside the town.

2 Pound Cottage is a romantic, luxury cottage for 2 in one of England's finest villages (according The Telegraph). Chocolate box pretty, it is perfect for a romantic break. Wake to the sound of church bells, eat breakfast in bed then head out to explore the beauty and peace of Dartmoor. On your return to the cottage, relax in the deep, deep bath with a bottle of fizz, listen to vinyl on the record player or sink into the sofa and read a book. The space
You will want to spend a lot of time in the large bedroom and bath area while you're here. You can chat as one of you lounges on the bed and the other soaks in the deep bath.
The living room is sumptuous and cosy, with a wood burner for the winter nights and rich fabrics and blankets to snuggle into.
At the back of the kitchen is our honesty bar, made from wood local to the cottage. On the side of the cottage is a small utility shed, the perfect place to hang wet coats and muddy boots. Please note the cottage sits on the village green so there is no garden, but there is a lovely bench that faces the afternoon sun at the front which makes the perfect spot for a gin and tonic. Please also note that the church bells sound the hour.
Other things to note
Should Two Pound Cottage be too big for your needs, we also have a private annexe attached to our main home (very close to Haytor higher up on the moor). You can find details of it on Airbnb.
