Mole Cottage is a delightful thatched cottage that has been sympathetically modernised to provide a high standard of accommodation. Built in 1927 the cottage is situated in a picturesque location and enjoys panoramic sea views from the principal accommodation.
Luccombe village is surrounded by miles of National Trust land, overlooking The English Channel, part way between the towns of Shanklin and Ventnor, both very popular with tourists and only a 5 to 10 minutes drive.
Whilst Mole Cottage is set in an idyllic rural location secluded and "off the beaten track" the town of Shanklin, one of the best known resorts of the Island, is just 5 - 10 minutes drive.

- "Another lovely visit - repeat visitors to this very special cottage. Everything you could need for a great break, an outstanding view and badgers visiting the garden every evening. Magical" - "Mole Cottage is in a fantastic location in Luccombe, 10/15 minutes walk from Shanklin old town. If you walk back to the cottage from Shanklin it is up hill, which is not a problem if you are fit and healthy, but do take this into consideration. The cottage is situated on a private road, so it was always very quiet, both night and day; there's parking for 2 cars just outside of the property. Being at the top of a hill meant that you are rewarded with a fantastic view out to sea from the lovely garden at the back and side of the property. It's great to watch some of the Channel Island ferries, cargo ships and tankers go by. It's also excellent for star gazing on a clear night. We were also very lucky to be visited by badgers each night, which was amazing to see! We loved watching them feast on the peanuts left out for them each night, right by the patio doors! The cottage was very well equipped to make our stay a very comfortable home from home experience. The layout worked very well for 4 adults and 2 children. The children could sleep in the large upstairs bedroom, whilst you could remain talking in the living room without disturbing them. We loved our stay at Mole Cottage and it made our visit to The Isle of Wight a very memorable one and would happily stay here again!"

- "Fantastic little cottage very comfortable ideal if you’ve got dogs enclosed garden we really loved it would come again Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo" - "Had a lovely holiday at Swallow cottage. Beautiful location and the cottage was perfect for us. The weather was a bit soggy but still had lots of fun Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo" - "We had a great time at the cottage. It is well equipped and comfortable although some of the fittings (door locks, window frames) need renovation. The garden is a good size with a big table- sadly not useable very much with the weather. A car is needed for the trip into Shanklin, walking would involve a fairly busy road with no pathway for a few hundred yards. Currently there is no bbq or hairdryer. I’d use again as it is well placed for the south and east of the island Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo"

With a wonderful beach just moments away, this spacious apartment, new for 2018, is located on the eastern side of the island, just outside of Shanklin town. Ideal for families, the property is able to accommodate up to six guests and it is also dog friendly, benefiting from an enclosed rear garden.
The excellent nearby beach offers a classic British seaside vibe and can be accessed from a set of steps from the top of the cliff path which is close to the property. Alternatively you can gain access from either of the flanking esplanades at Shanklin or Sandown. As this beach is effectively tucked away and not quite as straightforward to reach as its resort neighbours, it is very often quieter during the busier seasons, making it a peaceful alternative for a day on the beach, and the perfect spot for surfing, kayaking or paddle boarding, as the sea is relatively shallow and clear. Take advantage of the instructional school which is located at the back of the beach that offers a whole range of water sports activities for all ages and abilities. There are beach huts which you can look to hire and also a number of benches to sit on along the sea wall path, and there is also a café and barbecue area which is always popular during the summer season. When the tide is further in and the golden sands briefly disappear, the walk along the sea wall between Sandown and Shanklin is highly recommended as it offers a wide, flat path which is ideal for both walkers and cyclists.
Away from the beach, the town of Shanklin hosts a multitude of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants to enjoy. The old village is world famous with its pretty thatched pubs, rock shop, cosy tea rooms, restaurants and craft shops. The esplanade is packed full of amusements and crazy golf, as well as several waterfront eateries.
Neighbouring Sandown is a truly traditional beach resort with pier, amusements and pitch and putt. The Isle of Wight Zoo, and the Dinosaur Isle attraction can be found at the northern end of the esplanade towards Yaverland and Culver Down. The town is brimming with attractions to entertain visitors, most of them right on the beach front itself, so again you never have to stray too far from the sand. Further afield, there are numerous attractions to discover for all ages on this beautiful sunny island. To the west you’ll find The Needles Landmark Attraction with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. Venture north towards Cowes and you can pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and Gardens, or perhaps go south past Ventnor down to Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK. Whatever direction in which you decide to head, the Isle of Wight has plenty to offer. Beach 530 yards. Shop 175 yards, pub and restaurant 70 yards.
Free WiFi
Families or couples only.

- "We had a wonderful week in the Isle of Wight and enjoyed the flat and its location. The flat is an easy walk to the beach and Shanklin town. We also walked to Sandown beach which was also nice. The owner left a folder of instructions and information which was very useful, and she was quick to respond to any questions." - "We were absolutely delighted to find that this property in Shanklin is exactly as described. Clean, welcoming and spacious. It is also rare to arrive at a holiday rental and find that the owners have thought to leave you washing tabs, cleaning products, bin liners, loo roll etc. and it meant we didn't have to scramble for supplies on arrival. The welcome "hamper" of breakfast foods was a lovely touch too, and we appreciated the thoughtfulness that was applied to every aspect of the stay. Really highly recommend."

- "The apartment is well presented & maintained. Lovely large double bedroom. Large lounge diner very good size. Kitchen is clean & all utensils for cooking are adequate. The only issue I had is sometimes I could hear people at night in the street. Busy road with customers visiting takeaway & local shop. The lift to the beach is 10 min walk away."

Highcliff Cottage at Luccombe is a dream holiday retreat, secluded and tranquil. A 100m high clifftop garden oasis overlooking Sandown Bay and the south of England. Relax on the deck, listen to the bird song and breathe in the fresh air. Situated between Shanklin and Ventnor, the Cottage is designed in the boathouse style with beautiful detailing inside and out, with exclusive use of a large garden and access to a spectacular cliff terrace. The Isle of Wight Coastal Path is at the front gate.
The space
Highcliff Cottage sits adjacent to the 1870's built Highcliff House. The cottage is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Although a cliche, the 180 degree sea view is an ever changing spectacle. Whether it's the sun or moon reflecting off the sea, a storm thrashing up the waves hammering the shoreline or the myriad of passing yachts, cruise ships and other vessels, there is always something drawing your attention out to sea. Wake up early and watch a stunning sunrise, or in the evening have a glass of wine on the deck as the golden light of the setting sun bounces off the white chalk of Culver Cliff across Sandown Bay. The vibrant blues, greys, greens and turquoises of the sea are a mesmerising vista.
At night the lights of Shanklin and Sandown illuminate the darknesss and the Esplanade street lights mark out the arc of the bay. The flashing lights of the Nab Tower, which marks the entrance to the Solent, which all large ships steer by, flicker off shore, as do the twinkling lights of towns and navigation markers all along the English south coast, from the Witterings to Brighton. In winter, when the air is thin, the night lights of the mainland south coast are particularly bright and stunning. If you happen to be here during a full moon, seeing it rise up over the English Channel at night is an extraordinary sight. The horizon is curved, the moon is spherical and you realise you are standing on a planet floating around in a much larger universe.
Guest access
You will have full exclusive use of the cottage, its deck, the grounds and garden, giving you ample space both inside and out. Sun loungers and deck chairs provide comfort in the garden.
There is offstreet parking for two cars - one under a carport and the other on the driveway.
There is level access into the cottage although the master bedroom is located on the first floor. There are a few steps down to the outside deck.
Other things to note
Highcliff Cottage sits in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each side of the Highcliff estate is bounded by National Trust property. Haddons Pit to the north is maintained by the National Trust as grassland, grazed by a few cows in the summer, and visited by over 100 migratory bird species including locally nesting peregrine falcons. The garden at Highcliff Cottage is also a popular wildlife destination, so keep your eyes peeled for the butterflies, red squirrels, barn owls, pheasants, woodpeckers and the "black rabbit".
You may also see the occasional para-glider floating above the cottage having launched off from Haddon's Pit next door or listen out for a Spitfire flyby, you will hear their lovely engines first. The Coastguard helicopter is another frequent sighting.
Getting to the Cottage:
By Car:
Highcliff Cottage is about a 30 minute drive from the car ferries at East Cowes or Fishbourne.
On foot:
Alternatively it is an easy destination on foot for those on a walking holiday. Catch the Wightlink passenger ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head, then the little red Island train (a 1930's London tube train) from Ryde Pier to Shanklin, and then its a 5 minute (£6) taxi ride to the Cottage.
By boat:
If you are arriving by private yacht or motor launch, tie up on one of the visitor buoys or anchor off Fisherman's Cottage below Shanklin Chine, come ashore and then it's a 10 minute walk up the cliff steps and up to the top of Luccombe Road.
