- "We stayed here for a week during the Easter hoildays and really enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful little cottage and there was plenty of room for our family of four (all over 18) and our dog. We found a selection of board games to play as the weather could have been better!! There is the lovely Highcliffe beach a 15 minute walk away and a great choice of cafes and takeaways in Highcliffe. The property had everything we needed although there is not too much outside area and no grass (all chippings) but the front garden is enclosed so our dog could go out without any worries. Had a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival which went down very well thank you. It was a lovely little cottage indeed."

A Beach Hut on the prestigious Mudeford Spit - * No Booking Fees *

Crackerjack
On Mudeford Spit
Sleeps 4/5
1 x Small double in lounge
3 x Singles in loft
Gas cooking
Fridge (solar powered)
Access to 'owners showers'
Decking area to front
Outside seating
Pet friendly

Crackerjack (Hut 161) is our much-loved family beach hut on Mudeford Spit. It is in an amazingly secluded spot away from the main crowds - towards the end of the spit. It faces out towards the sea side of the spit, where you can walk a few steps over a dune onto a beautiful white sand beach with clear blue water for a swim.

The hut also has wonderful harbour views, to watch the impressive boats within Christchurch Harbour. Our hut is perfect for a family or couple to stay in and you are welcome to bring your well-behaved dogs with you (2 max), to enjoy the beach as well!

This is very much a glamping experience! The beds are comfortable with three single mattresses on the mezzanine level and a small pull-out double downstairs (our family of 5 sleep here comfortably). There is a gas hob and oven, solar powered fridge, and 12 volt point for phone charging. In true camping style there is no running water, but a water point a couple of steps away to fill up jugs for drinking water or kettles for drinks or to wash up with. There is a sink in the hut. The toilet block is a few steps away and a shower block (accessed with a key for hut residents only) around 100m away.

We provide duvets and pillows for you to use. Please bring your own bed linen or sleeping bags and your own towels. We professionally clean the hut each month and have a 'self clean on leaving policy' so we ask our guests to clean the hut when they leave to the standard that they would like to find it in. If a little sand worries you or the possibility of having to re-wash a saucepan or plate/mug, then a beach hut glamping experience is not for you. We do leave cleaning products under the sink and there is a broom and dustpan and brush.

There is an outdoor picnic bench and outdoor lounge chairs to relax on provided with the hut. There is also a table and chairs within the hut.

The spit is a unique peaceful environment, a wonderful opportunity to really get away from it all!! Sorry, the hut isn't a place for stag / hen parties and the sandbank has a strict no noise policy after 10pm along the beach.

How to access the hut:

This can be a real mission (which is part of the fun), but once you get there it is totally worth it.
Cars are not permitted onto Mudeford Spit but for the last part of your journey there are several options: --

Park at Mudeford Quay car park (BH23 4AB, offers daily and weekly rates) then get the Mudeford Ferry over to the spit. The hut is a couple of minutes walk away.
Please note that the Mudeford Ferry sailing times vary and can be found on their own website.

Park at Hengistbury Head car park (BH6 4EL), you can then walk or cycle approximately 1 mile on a flat path through a nature reserve.

There is also the option of the land train from the head car park, or booking the land rover to take down your luggage.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU CAN ACCESS THE HUT BEFORE BOOKING. IF IN DOUBT CONTACT US FIRST, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR ARRIVAL IS BEFORE EASTER.

Things to do:

Simple pleasures really feature highly!! A cup of tea or glass of wine on the beach is a must! Our children love playing around in the dunes, swimming in the sea, crabbing and fishing off the end of the spit, as well as flying kites.

Or hire a Beryl bike, from the spit to cycle around, or walk up to Hengistbury head to admire the amazing view.

Lots of water sports opportunities:

Shoresports is based near Mudeford Quay. You can rent SUP boards, kayaks, dinghies, windsurfers, and they offer excellent lessons (our children loved them).

Fishing trips from Mudeford Quay. Predator boats offer this.

Eating options:

There are several options: at the hut there is a hob and oven and we also provide a charcoal BBQ (please bring own charcoal) and clean the BBQ after using.

The Beach House Café offers lots of takeaway options (pizza, seafood and pasties, etc), alcohol and ice creams. They also have a small shop which sells milk, bread, buckets and spades, etc. If you are coming for a few days though, I would really recommend you bring food supplies with you.

There are plenty of options over on Mudeford Quay - take away fish and chips, pub, café and the Noisy Lobster.

Guest Reviews:

- "Fantastic stay location beautiful and the accommodation was amazing. Shower block was always clean and very close by." - "Very much a basic glamping experience, the value for money is being right on the beach and the beautiful views and sunrises/sunsets. Upstairs mattresses and pillows were comfy and the hut was well equipped with the essentials and some games/toys. With no power socket available make sure you take USB chargers for phones. "

Guest Reviews:

- "We loved our stay at Victoria Cottage. The house was a great size for the 8 of us and had all the necessary items you’d need for a stay away from home. Garden was huge with a lovely patio area and plenty of seating. Only comment for awareness for others with younger children/people who may not be quite so steady on their feet…stairs are a little narrow/steep and split in two directions at top so just need to take care. But we loved our stay and would highly recommend!"

Guest Reviews:

- "This is an amazing property and we would totally recommend it. It is deceptively spacious with three large bedrooms upstairs and lots of space in the open planned downstairs. Plenty for our family of 5! The owners have taken meticulous attention to detail and it feels as though they have considered the guests every need as though they would their own: from toys, games and books to entertain the whole family, a wireless speaker, an assortment of breakfast cereals, condiments and teas and coffees in the kitchen, children’s cutlery and crockery to shampoos, conditioners and even a sleep spray by the bed. This was all so thoughtfully done! The beds were comfortable, designated parking was extremely convenient and the location was ideal for exploring Christchurch by foot and the area beyond by car. Thoroughly recommend and would love to return. "

The Port Hole, or the Tardis as we call it because of its surprising spaciousness, has been the bolt hole of the Holgate family for many years and is now available for holiday lets. It is in an ideal location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Mudeford Quay and Avon Beach. It also has two parking spaces.

The house is very much designed for a family and it sleeps 6; 4 adults in a super king size bedroom and a double bedroom and a children’s bedroom with bunk beds. Both the master and second bedroom have plenty of wardrobe space.

The downstairs living area is fairly open plan with a well-equipped kitchen and dining area that leads through to a spacious lounge with bi-fold doors that take you out into an enclosed courtyard space. The courtyard is fully enclosed, so quite safe for children and your four-legged furry friend. It also enjoys the afternoon sun, so great for alfresco dining or just chilling and enjoying a drink.

There is a downstairs shower room which is great for washing sand off when you get back from a day at the beach, or if you have been out on the water and want a nice warm shower.

Upstairs there is a family bathroom with a bath and standalone shower.

Opposite is the excellent Jetty restaurant and the 4* Christchurch Harbour Hotel, plus close by are bus stops to both Bournemouth and Lymington.

There is much to see and do in the local area. Mudeford Quay is famous for crabbing, you can buy crab nets and bait from the gift shop just by the Haven House Inn on the Quay or from the Fish stall. You can hire paddleboards and other ‘water’ equipment down on the Quay and there is a ferry that goes over to Hengistbury Head; the beach over there is dog friendly all year round and you can walk around the head to Christchurch if you wish.

Further along is the Avon beach and the Noisy Lobster restaurant which has an outside balcony – have a lovely long lunch just watching the world go by! There is also a gift shop, coffee hut and the Lobster Hatch that serves takeaway fish and chips.

Christchurch is the local town with the famous Priory which is well worth a look and walk around. Lymington has a market on a Saturday and further afield The New Forest which has some amazing walks and a great place to see the ponies and, if you are lucky, the donkeys and wild pigs!

It is the perfect holiday home for a family retreat by the seaside!

- "A few issues:- a. Contractor visited the property very early on the first morning to carry out cooker repair; we were still in bed and had not been notified so initially thought that a burglar had broken in! b. Kettle switch was faulty and kept 'cutting out' or not working. c. The heating/water system was either too hot or too cold - difficult to understand how to regulate the system. d. Pressure appeared to be too low for the flushing system on occasions. e. Excellent television lounge and kitchen /dining areas. It would have been nice to have been offered some sort of compensation for the stress we initially went through!"
