Exactly as described , stones throw to Avon Beach, a little hidden gem. Have no hesitation in booking further visit in 2020" - "The cottage is set well back from any passing traffic in gated compound with several parking bays (easier with a shorter car). There are no real views, but who looks out of the windows when you're 3 minutes slow walk from the beach? Guest Reviews:

- "We loved our stay at Victoria Cottage. The house was a great size for the 8 of us and had all the necessary items you’d need for a stay away from home. Garden was huge with a lovely patio area and plenty of seating. Only comment for awareness for others with younger children/people who may not be quite so steady on their feet…stairs are a little narrow/steep and split in two directions at top so just need to take care. But we loved our stay and would highly recommend!"

Take a short, level stroll from ‘The Escape’ and you will get to the clean, fine sands of Avon Beach or you might want to try some water sports on Mudeford Quay. Just as Dun a Ri (meaning Fort of the King) is a place of natural beauty and tranquillity offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, our lodge provides a coastal sanctuary where guests can enjoy the serene harbour views and the calming sound of the waves, just as King George III enjoyed when he visited Sandhills Manor House.

By naming our lodge Dun a Ri, we bring a piece of the forest's magic to the coast, creating a unique and inviting retreat. Experience the peace, beauty, and inspiration of Dun a Ri at our coastal holiday lodge, overlooking the stunning Christchurch Harbour and within close proximity to the beautiful Avon Beach.

Dun a Ri has prime position on the front row lending spectacular views of the harbour and is perfectly placed to experience the beauty of the sunsets in the evening on the deck. The lodge features two bedrooms, one double and one with two singles. There is an open plan living area and a fully equipped kitchen with all the modern amenities including TV, washer/dryer, dishwasher and parking right in front of the lodge.

Sandhills Holiday Park has a pool with loungers and deck chairs. Inside you will find a bar and a small gym with a shop on site. There is also a children's play area.

Nearby restaurants include The Noisy Lobster or The Jetty which are both within walking distance, with further restaurants not far away in Mudeford and Christchurch.

Dun a Ri welcomes pets.

We do hope you enjoy your stay at Sandhills Holiday Park and especially Dun a Ri. Please feel free to enjoy a drink at the bar in the Club House and a swim in the heated pool where slots can be booked at reception. Water sports (sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding) are also available at the beach and crabbing equipment from the shop on the Quay.

Close by is historic Christchurch, boasting an 11th Century Priory, which is conveniently situated between the New Forest and the stunning Jurassic Coast.

From the quay you can take the ferry to Mudeford sandbank where you can walk to Hengistbury Head and beyond. Hengistbury Head is perfect for nature lovers and walkers and this scenic headland can be found between Christchurch Harbour and the English Channel, providing coastal views and an array of wildlife. There are miles of walking and cycling trails for birdwatching. Additional walks along the coastline can be enjoyed between Mudeford Quay and Highcliffe Castle.

Lymington is a pretty Georgian town with independent shops and tea rooms and nearby Beaulieu is the home of the National Motor Museum as well as the Beaulieu Palace House. There is also a ferry to the Isle of Wight hourly from Lymington Ferry Pier.

Paulton's Park, home to the famous Peppa Pig World is only a 30 minute drive away towards Romsey, where you will find Romsey Rapids and Broadlands. The Port Hole, or the Tardis as we call it because of its surprising spaciousness, has been the bolt hole of the Holgate family for many years and is now available for holiday lets. It is in an ideal location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Mudeford Quay and Avon Beach. It also has two parking spaces.

The house is very much designed for a family and it sleeps 6; 4 adults in a super king size bedroom and a double bedroom and a children’s bedroom with bunk beds. Both the master and second bedroom have plenty of wardrobe space.

The downstairs living area is fairly open plan with a well-equipped kitchen and dining area that leads through to a spacious lounge with bi-fold doors that take you out into an enclosed courtyard space. The courtyard is fully enclosed, so quite safe for children and your four-legged furry friend. It also enjoys the afternoon sun, so great for alfresco dining or just chilling and enjoying a drink.

There is a downstairs shower room which is great for washing sand off when you get back from a day at the beach, or if you have been out on the water and want a nice warm shower.

Upstairs there is a family bathroom with a bath and standalone shower.

Opposite is the excellent Jetty restaurant and the 4* Christchurch Harbour Hotel, plus close by are bus stops to both Bournemouth and Lymington.

There is much to see and do in the local area. Mudeford Quay is famous for crabbing, you can buy crab nets and bait from the gift shop just by the Haven House Inn on the Quay or from the Fish stall. You can hire paddleboards and other ‘water’ equipment down on the Quay and there is a ferry that goes over to Hengistbury Head; the beach over there is dog friendly all year round and you can walk around the head to Christchurch if you wish.

Further along is the Avon beach and the Noisy Lobster restaurant which has an outside balcony – have a lovely long lunch just watching the world go by! There is also a gift shop, coffee hut and the Lobster Hatch that serves takeaway fish and chips.

Christchurch is the local town with the famous Priory which is well worth a look and walk around. Lymington has a market on a Saturday and further afield The New Forest which has some amazing walks and a great place to see the ponies and, if you are lucky, the donkeys and wild pigs!

It is the perfect holiday home for a family retreat by the seaside!

Guest Reviews:

- "A few issues:- a. Contractor visited the property very early on the first morning to carry out cooker repair; we were still in bed and had not been notified so initially thought that a burglar had broken in! b. Kettle switch was faulty and kept 'cutting out' or not working. c. The heating/water system was either too hot or too cold - difficult to understand how to regulate the system. d. Pressure appeared to be too low for the flushing system on occasions. e. Excellent television lounge and kitchen /dining areas. It would have been nice to have been offered some sort of compensation for the stress we initially went through!"

Guest Reviews:

- "A very good well equipped property in a very good location" - "We had a lovely week at Bosun Retreat. The cottage provided everything we needed and was situated in an excellent location for exploring the area." - "Very comfortable accomodation for the six of us (two couples and two children). Living area could have been laid out a bit better for number of bedrooms but we made it work. The beds were very comfortable and multiple bathrooms/WCs meant no fighting over showers, etc. The only one slight negative remark from the group is that one of the duvets in the children's room (the twin room) had a very noisy duvet. I think it was made from waterproof/plastic and so it made quite a bit of noise whenever the person sleeping in that bed moved. Otherwise we we really pleased with the space. It was a good size, had a fully appointed kitchen, and was conveniently located."
