Woodland Cottage is a cute character cottage, nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac surrounded by lovely trees. The section is very private and is a great place for a family holiday with lots of room to run around outside and a swing under the trees. There is also a sunroom which is a nice sunny spot to have a quiet read or a glass of wine.
A heat pump keeps everything lovely and warm, but there is also the novelty of an open fire with plenty of wood to burn.
The beds are already made up with fresh linen, free of charge.
There is only a short 5 minute walk to the town centre and great restaurants and also to beautiful Lake Te Anau.
Magnificent Milford Sound is only a 2 hour drive away.

Built in 1921 at the Mararoa Station as the residence for the farm manager, this lovingly restored villa was saved from demolition and transported to Te Anau in 2010. Next door is another historic building - a 1930s chapel from Otago, also full of wooden features and open for relaxation. A little further, lovely gardens and pond to relax and play in. Just a 2 minute drive from the centre of Te Anau and the lakefront, although if you are going anywhere by helicopter you will be picked up in the garden ! We have lots of information on all the attractions of the area: walks, fjord trips, cycling on the new trails, flights, the glowworm caves, and the wildlife sanctuary where you can see the rare Takahe bird that is only found naturally in the adjacent Fiordland National Park. This is the ideal place for those seeking a bit of peace and quiet in a heritage building.

The building is historic being a nunnery originally and moved to it's present location some years ago. It forms a quirky, interesting and comfortable lodging. Mark the host was very welcoming and provided great advice on which day trips to take on each morning, Thank You! I would recommend staying in either the guest house or the cottage."

We drove our rental car into the driveway and walked everywhere for 4 days - including to two tour experiences. That made our stay just wonderful. But the house itself had some issues. It was super clean and decorated in a lovely way. The linens were great and the beds were very comfortable. Our concerns were about how freezing the house was at all times. A window in each of two rooms was made of louvered glass so it couldn't be closed all the way! The heating unit was of very limited value. Some days - we were there the first week of fall - the temp was about 4 degrees C. That made the inside extremely chilly! The host was quite lackadaisical about responding to us. One question we sent was never answered, another took 2 days to hear back. The guidance sheet was odd. There were directions for the dishwasher, yet there wasn't a dishwasher. A heat pump was mentioned but we couldn't get any warm air to come out of it. There were warnings about the house getting too hot. I guess it must get hot in the summer. There were directions about putting the trash out yet there weren't any trash bags to use. The kitchen was not really stocked with anything. There wasn't even salt. There were leftover soup packets and teas other guests must have left. And yet my husband and I still say the location was everything. A 2 minute walk to the lake and not that much farther to downtown Te Anau. I'm writing this in the hope the owner will improve the climate issues and perhaps provide a bit more in the kitchen."
