We just finished a 10-mo renovation! You'll love our very secluded cabin with a great view and rustic touches. Beautiful drives on curvy mountain roads lead to the quaint mountain towns of Highlands and Cashiers. Enjoy a completely private, quiet and recently-renovated cabin overlooking Black Mountain. You'll wake up to this amazing view in the upstairs primary bedroom with a king bed, and enjoy your coffee on the small balcony. The first-floor bedroom has a queen bed, with French doors that open to a covered porch and wonderful view. If needed, a blow-up mattress is available--simply roll the kitchen island out of the way to make space! To ensure we keep everything clean and sanitized for all guests, overnight sleeping on the couch is not permitted. You'll have your choice of several outdoor spaces, including the amazing aforementioned covered, screened-in porch. A large deck with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the mountain view is perfect on sunny days and it boasts an outdoor eating area, which is perfect for enjoying the summer nights. A tin-roof deck with a hanging day bed for a relaxing afternoon is a must while you're at the cabin. You'll feel whisked away to two different worlds, depending on the direction that you look while swaying in the bed. You can bring yourself to the deep forest or imagine hiking the mountains. The tin-roof deck also comes with full-size propane and charcoal grills. Adirondack chairs surround the fire pit, in the natural setting of the woods. You will be minutes away from a natural sliding rock, hiking trails, shopping, golf courses, lakes and many wonderful restaurants. Dogs are welcome anytime (max 2, NTE 50 lbs each or contact us to discuss), and if interested/needed, we store two collapsible kennels for your use. The cabin comes equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, sheets, bedding, towels, and hair dryers. We have Starlink internet, a smart DVD player and a Google Chromecast for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. Finally, there's a laundry room upstairs for your use.

The first and last third of the driveway to get to the property is a little steep. Although a truck or SUV would make it up there easier than other vehicles, we've had all type of cars and trucks that make it up just fine, including small 4-door sedans. If you drive SLOWLY, it won't be a problem at all. We've also had experienced motorcyclists up there. The driveway is naturally and purposely bumpy. We keep it maintained but due to the heavy rainfall, in between maintenance, it can get quite bumpy. Also, there are culverts placed in various spots to divert the water down the hill.

Security cameras are on site, outside only. $250 fee for tampering with cameras or equipment.

Just a note about Hurricane Helene: while the damage last fall in Asheville, about 1.5 hours away, was devastating, Cashiers is ok…all is back to normal. The Hobbit House had no damage, and we’re fully prepared to offer you a wonderful getaway!j
Life is all around us. We need to celebrate it, every day. Hikes are free, so are the views from mountain tops and gorgeous waterfalls. Long walks, all levels of hikes, riding a bike, no crowds. Dine at terrific nearby restaurants, or cook the latest NY Times recipe that caught your eye together in the petite but well stocked kitchen of the Hobbit House. Then eat by the fireplace, at table, or on the front porch listening to the wind whisper through the trees. Enjoy some quality time watching a movie or sit by the fire (we supply the firewood) laughing and making s'mores. Get a great night's sleep on a super comfy mattress (seriously, SO many guests want to buy one I should get a commission) in the fresh mountain air.

So, with all that said, welcome to the Hobbit House in the breathtaking mountains of western North Carolina. A small space, yes...but such a sanctuary. And don’t we need that these days? The perfect hideout for a week or a long weekend. Just a two minute drive (if that), or a 10 minute walk to the Cashiers crossroads, the Hobbit House is nestled within an acre of mountain laurel, holly and tall pines....an airy, sophisticated Cashiers cabin with in-town seclusion.

The Hobbit House was completely redone with stainless kitchen appliances and new bathroom (note: the bathroom is downstairs from the loft bedroom) and redecorated into a luxurious, warm and peaceful getaway for two - or three, if you have a dog ($100 dog fee). Relax in the woods - yet have all the luxuries of home: HD Roku streaming of TV cable channels with all the possible sports channels plus Netflix, Amazon, Sling etc...washer and dryer and solid Wi-Fi. A petite but modern kitchen and flagstone floored bath with a modern subway-tiled walk-in shower...both on the first floor.. are just off the open living area with a wood burning, stone fireplace.

On cooler days, there is warm air flowing at the flick of a switch plus the fireplace, and an upstairs super efficient standing floor air conditioning unit that keeps the cottage cool on the rare, warmer than normal day. Usually the stainless steel ceiling fans do the trick!

Follow the mountain laurel railing upstairs to the light filled loft bedroom (bathroom downstairs), where a wonderful night's sleep awaits under the rafters. The gel-topped, memory foam, king size bed will soothe you to sleep in the cool mountain air after a day of hiking, waterfalls or shopping.

The Hobbit House is a cabin with a difference. Everything in The Hobbit House has been chosen specifically for this cottage. While poplar bark siding protects the exterior, inside you’ll find a light, modern, designer-mountain feel with a whitewashed shiplap interior, artisan details, the latest energy-efficient appliances and cool art. There are also top quality sheets and fluffy towels...you won't find another place like it except our big sister house. You'll find a link below to the Mountain House if you're looking for something larger (6B-4-1/2B) but with the same easy style.

In the morning, have your coffee on the Sunday porch swing next to the mountain laurel rails that line the deck. Listen to the silence of the rain forest, broken only by the Carolina birds singing their tunes. Promise yourself that today, you WILL make time for reading. Ok, and maybe a nap on that same plush swing-bed. Later, enjoy a glass of wine in the same spot or take it with you walking the secluded roads and trails just outside your door. Then, if you wish, cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen or grill outside on the gas grill. Even better, slip away to one of Cashier's many wonderful restaurants that are just minutes away. Welcome to a slice of heaven!

Please be mindful of the septic system and do not flush anything down the toilets or drains other than toilet paper. This includes any and all personal hygiene products, baby wipes, bleaches and strong chemical cleaners.

Fantastic place to study for a BIG test( tests studied MCAT, Step 1,Step2,LSAT,The BAR and many school exams). Or JUST BE...you will be so happy you did. The area is magical . Shopping is fantastic. The mountains are beautiful. Cashiers Farmers Market has fresh local food. Ingles is a good grocery store. Churches are abundant . St Judes is in Sapphire, so close by. Cashiers has great stores ,Nora's is a favorite and dining places, hikes are all around and sitting on the dock or porch for watching the stars is magnificent.
The porches are BIG and the living space is on both floors with all hardwood floors. There are books to read in library, in case you forgot yours at home. GORGEOUS LAKESIDE views!

Lovely 1BR/1BA cabin in the heart of Cashiers, NC. The cabin is one of six on-site. All were fully renovated / remodeled in late 2021 after being relocated to the site from Waynesville, NC, where they were used by the US Forestry Dept. The property is located directly on Cashiers Lake and within walking distance to shops, restaurants, trails and all that Cashiers has to offer! Amenities on site include free parking, use of communal fire pit/grill. Let us be your basecamp for adventure.

Please note: Cashiers Lake is privately owned and is currently drained due to new development. As of March, 2025 we have not been informed as to when the lake will be filled again.

- "My firmed and I enjoyed staying in the completely refurbished cottage. At first the idea of staying in the business district seemed strange, but it worked out really well. All was quite and cozy and safe. It was extremely convenient to visit all the offerings of downtown Cashiers. If there is any suggestion we have, it was that the tv should come out of the armoire in the living area so a clothing rod could be installed and the shelves used for clothing storage as well, instead of staring so many beautiful but unnecessary extra throw pillows. Also the cottage could be de-cluttered just a bit as it seemed a bit over decorated with lots of cute bric a brac. All was really cute and the ultra soft throw blankets were so nice on the cool mountain mornings."

The Taylor House is a beautiful home located in High Hampton and is only 5 minutes from downtown Cashiers. The house is tucked away in a rhododendron and mountain laurel forest that allows the guests to feel very secluded even with being so close to town. From the gravel driveway, that leads to a carport, enter the home to an open floor planned living and dining room. The living room is furnished with a couch, two side chairs and a TV with cable tv and a Blu-Ray DVD player. There are two sitting tables in the home; one with two chairs by the large window overlooking the front yard and a larger table with six to eight chairs around it closer to the kitchen. The galley-style kitchen, located off the living space, is equipped with an oven, electric stovetop, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven and a drip coffee maker. The laundry room located off the kitchen has a washer and dryer. The master bedroom is located off the dining room area where you can enjoy a queen bed and access to the deck. The en-suite master bathroom has a shower/tub combo and dual sinks. The guest bedroom with a queen bed is located on the main level with a full bathroom outfitted with a shower/tub combo and a sink. From the main level, follow a staircase up to a large loft area with two twin beds that overlooks the main living space. Another great addition to this home is the outdoor wraparound deck with a outdoor table set with chairs where you can take in the peace and quiet of High Hampton. The deck has two rocking chairs and a chaise lounge chair. A charcoal grill is available for use on the driveway next to the deck. Pets are considered for this home, please call our office for inquires. This home has WIFI and cell phone coverage.

Your reservation includes a damage protection plan. The damage protection plan is $50, and it covers up to $3,000 in damages. In lieu of purchasing the damage protection plan, guests have the option to choose a refundable security deposit. If you would like to pay a refundable security deposit, please contact us. I live at the top of a steep driveway on a gravel road. I’ve had no problem getting around in my Honda Civic but if you aren’t used to driving rural mountainous roads you’ll want to take it slow.

You will be walking distance to downtown Cashiers or a short 5 minute drive.

There are two acres to wonder on with short trails and a creek. Outdoor seating and a fire pit is also available for your use.

The space
Bright and sunny bedroom with queen bed, down comforter and heavenly sheets (that is what they’re actually called!). The downstairs living room is all yours. Plenty of comfy chairs and a large screen smart TV with Netflix, Prime, and other apps.

There is a microwave, toaster oven, Keurig coffee machine, and small fridge for your use. Coffee, tea, sugar, and honey will be provided. If you use half-and-half, you might want to stop at the store before you come.

Dog friendly. One is ideal and no more than two. Sorry no cats or other pets. There will be bowls for food and water, pet blankets, and towels for muddy paws or a romp in the creek.

The private entrance to your space is around the back of the house through the back door. From your parking space to the back door has a small gravel hill and steps…FYI.

When you enter you’re in the host’s art studio. You are welcome to use the desk or sit in the comfy chair to read. Please refrain from painting. :) Barbara will not use this room while guest are present.

The house sits on 2 1/2 acres. There are paths through the woods you are welcome to use. Please watch your step.

Lastly, one very friendly border collie lives on the property. She is let out often. Be prepared to get a friendly greeting if you are out at the same time!

Also know that if your pup barks for longer than 20-30 minutes when you leave, I will text you to come back. And if I hear any kind of scratching or loud sounds I will go down and check on your dog. (I hate to do this but I have had things happen with unhappy dogs who were left alone😞)

Enjoy this one of a kind find with beautiful mountain views. This modern cabin offers a full kitchen, 1 bath inside, an outdoor bathhouse off the 1st floor deck, a California king bed in the private bedroom and a full bed in the lofted TV room. In addition there are 2 sleeper sofas (one queen and one full) available. There is a TV room and reading area in the loft. We have a large selection of DVD's and books here as well. Towels, linens, paper products, coffee pods, coffee filters and fire wood are provided. Wake up to a beautiful mountain view and enjoy the deck, covered porch and fire-pit throughout the day and evening. Entry is on the second floor. Pets are welcomed with a pet fee per stay.

Guest access
Guest have access to the second and third floor of the 3 story modern cabin. There are two outdoor spaces on the second floor for you to enjoy. One is the covered porch off the kitchen. The other is the entry deck with a beautiful mountain view and perfect place to watch the hummingbirds. You also have access to the deck, outdoor bathhouse and fire-pit on the first floor. Should you want to build a fire or cook on the fire pit, charcoal and wood are provided here as well. The first floor living quarters are a completely separate home and the private residence of the owners. The owners will be traveling during your stay.

After you've spent the day exploring, you can curl up in front of the cozy wood-burning fireplace in the living room. There you'll find a smart tv along with plenty of games, books, and puzzles for relaxing mountain evenings. During the day, this space is filled with natural light and has plenty of windows to enjoy the scenery. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook meals (including basic oils and spices), and features an island to provide extra prep space and extra seating in addition to the dining room table. A charcoal grill is also available for guest use. But don't worry if you don't feel like cooking - there are tons of fabulous restaurants nearby!

The master bedroom, which connects to the bathroom, features a luxurious king size bed, and the second bedroom has two twin beds. We made sure that our beds are super comfy for a great night's sleep, and guests rave about our mattresses and linens!

My lakefront home is close to restaurants,Buck's coffee shop, outdoor activities of hiking,biking, walking and fishing! Cashiers recreation center is closeby with workout rooms and classes for $3.00 per visit! You’ll love my place because of the views, the coziness, and the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, wedding guests and business travelers.
Dogs are welcome BUT must be leashed when walking the grounds and around the lake. MUST BE CRATED when you are away.

This is an elegantly appointed guest room on the lower level of my home. KING BED with newly renovated private bath. It has a separate outside locked entrance with your own private key. Also locked from my accessing your room and vice versa. Large covered deck with 2 comfy chairs and ottomans. Coffee, teas and muffins provided. Spotted Bear is a fun, romantic, spacious, one bedroom (loft), 1 bathroom cottage, nestled among tall trees and secluded, yet only 3 miles from town.
Golf courses, hiking trails, waterfalls, shopping and restaurants within 5 minutes. Waterfalls within walking distance.
There are 11 steep steps to the loft, not suitable for people with mobility issues, pregnant women, or people with difficulties going up or down steps.

The rainforest Hideout is nestled in the Ellicott Wilderness on a small private lake. This 3/2 house is on a gravel road, it’s very quiet so you can enjoy the peace of nature, the breeze rustling in the trees all around, or the rain on the tin roof. There are many miles of trails nearby and the Chattooga River has world-class fly fishing. Highlands and Cashiers have great shops and restaurants— just a 30 minute scenic drive away.

We furnished the huge Great Room with a large-screen TV and oversized leather sofas and chairs, giving it a comfortable mountain feel. Complete with a ventless, remote-controlled gas fireplace, this beautiful room opens up to an expansive wrap-around deck with seating for 12.

The spacious and fully equipped kitchen has stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Grill out on the new, oversized grill or dine at one of the local restaurants. The choice is yours with the town of Cashiers only 8 minutes from home and the neighboring town of Highlands only 20 minutes west.

Enjoy relaxing on the wrap-around deck while listening to the tranquil sounds of the stream below. The Bearfoot Cottage sits on 1 acre of flat land - rare to find in the mountains! This allows for fun lawn sports - croquet, bocce ball, badminton or tossing a football. Complete your day enjoying the beautiful sunset on the deck.

This large but cozy mountain home has a Master bedroom on the main level with a king size bed, TV and master bath. The main level also has a large, Hi-Def TV with a full Direct TV package and wi-fi internet.
