Food and Fun: Every little town seems to have a great restaurant or two. The Red Apple in Arcadia just about a mile away serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Cabbage Shed in Elberta is our FAVORITE with good food and live bands most nights – grab a pint of Guinness and enjoy! Frankfort has several great places to eat and see bands plus the Crescent bakery for breads and baked goods which you just have to check out – delicious! All the little towns have something going on all the time from food, music, festivals, shopping & antiquing – Up North has it all. The Elberta Farmer’s Market is great on Thursdays and Frankfort Farmer’s Market takes place on Saturday for fresh, home grown stuff. Local fruit & vegetable farmers have great produce stands along M-22 and elsewhere for anything from famous Michigan cherries, to apples, blueberries and asparagus. Take the kids to the Cherry Hut in Beulah or an actual retro drive-in experience at The Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater between Beulah and Honor. A fall visit to Old Mission Point's wineries is a great day trip as is St. Ambrose Cellars in Beulah for a selection of wines, meads and ciders. The area has a lot to offer, check it out!

Outdoors: Just plain paradise!
Spring / Summer - Water-sports galore with unsalted big surf on wave days, or kayaking and paddle boarding on calm days - unspoiled beach and nature walks on the preservation lands. Some of the nation’s most treasured trails, dunes and scenery to seek out and sunsets to die for. The Sleeping Bear Dunes are about a half hour north along scenic M-22 if you want a workout and view you will never forget. Golf courses, hiking and bike trails galore. Bring your fly-rod for the Betsie, Platte, Big & Little Manistee and Bear Creek rivers - or any of the other nearby trout streams and have a blast. Charter services for the big lake and rivers are available or bring your boat for the inland lakes if you like. Manistee National Forest is open to hunters within a half hour, and May is morel month if you know what to look for.

Fall – Nothing beats fall in Michigan! Relax at the cozy cottage with the wood burning fireplace glowing. There’s cable for catching a football game with a view of the lake, or take a day trip to wineries, scenic trails, local festivals and apple orchards galore. The fall colors are the real star of the show – a leisurely drive along M-22 to take it all in is worth a trip on its own!

Winter - Just less than 20 minutes away is luxurious Crystal Mountain for skiing, snowboarding and lodge life- hit the slopes during the day and return to the cabin for a cozy fire in the wood burning stove (firewood is provided). Caberfae Peaks is just less than an hour away for variety. There’s trails for snowmobiling, and fun for the whole family sledding at the hill at Onekama high school, just 10 minutes away. Up North Michigan is a tranquil place in the winter often with stunning frozen lake views (keep an eye out for ice balls that form and create a fascinating frozen landscape), and usually quite a bit of snow. There’s a reason it got the Winter Wonderland moniker!

The indoor fireplace is not available for guest use. The garage is not available for guest use and there are two locked owners closets in the home.
The hot tub is open all year round. We provide beach towels and flip flops for the hot tub. We also provide all bed linens and bath towels. The kitchen comes fully stocked with all cooking utensils, seasonings, oils and paper towel. There is a regular coffee pot and a Keurig. We provide Folgers coffee and a variety of K cups as well as cream and sugar. There is a dishwasher with detergent. In the bathrooms we provide toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. For your entertainment, we have lots of games for all ages, regular playing cards, giant Uno and Checkers. There is a Wii with multiple games and DVDs. We have Roku smart televisions. The city of Baldwin is about 10 minutes from the cabin. They have a couple grocery stores, a Dollar General, Family dollar and quite a few mom and pops restaurants and several bars. There are also a couple of ice cream shops.Please be aware that this is a cabin in the woods. You will encounter bugs and wildlife. We do provide mosquito spray.Guests have access to the home and Hot Tub.

This beautiful home is on a quiet dirt road in a private setting. There are 350 acres of state land across from the it and hundreds more just down the street. It is close to Hiking Trails, ATV trails, Fishing, Canoeing, Kayaking, but still close enough to town.

The building was originally Manistee National Bank. The recently renovated apartment is where the Bank offices were originally located. It sits on the Manistee River Walk. The building is centrally located in the downtown Historic District, steps away from local shopping, dining, and entertainment. The deck provides beautiful views of the river where you will see sailboats and charter fishing boats pass by. You may even see a Great Lakes Freighter navigate the river channel. The River Walk makes for a nice stroll down to Lake Michigan.

Pretend you are visiting your elderly relative who makes cookies and tea when you arrive. Her septic system is delicate, so please be mindful of this sweet old lady who's a little creaky but friendly.

The two bedrooms have great queen beds. One bathroom serves as a powder room for the "lake room," as well as the bathroom for the primary bedroom. The second bedroom has a bathroom across the hall. There is also a full bed in the den, and there is a laundry room. There is a sleeper sofa, best for kids as adults won't find it very comfortable. There is a fully equipped kitchen for cooking and baking, including a Kitchen Aid, toaster, coffee maker, Crock Pot, cookie sheet pans, and all the cooking utensils you'll need! Nearby caretakers can provide firewood or, in summer, a boat ride around the lake for a small fee. There are games and books, a TV and DVD player, and minimal cable/internet. Internet can be sketchy in inclement weather or if many are all using at once.

DEPARTURE: We do have a very short checklist we ask renters follow upon departure. It includes making sure the property is left tidy, furniture is in the same place you found it, everything is closed, locked and turned off, and the thermostat is set properly. These items will only take a couple of minutes but help staff immensely.

Please know that all rental policies and house rules are strictly enforced. This includes occupancy limits, age requirements, the ‘no parties’ and ‘no smoking’ clauses or any other rule posted online or within the rental. These are often defined by local ordinances, Homeowner’s Associations or other legal requirements and can result in fines or eviction if violated. We do not provide additional refunds for cancellations, late arrivals or early departures except as required in the posted cancellation policy.

This Unit was completed in April of 2019, The property was designed to be rented to Two couples or a family. Each Bedroom has its own bathroom complete with Jacuzzi Tubs, a separate Shower stall, and a separate toilet section each is identical. The 2 Bedrooms are large with new pillow top beds. The Kitchen is all cedar cabinets with Stainless steel appliances. There is even a laundry room. The den has a Queen sofa sleeper.

We specialize ourselves with the Many local lakes and rivers for all kinds of water sports activities. Several area hikes biking trails are close by including Arcadia Marsh walk and Baldy. We have easy access to local Snowmobile trails in the winter months, Winter Ski resorts including Crystal Mountain ( 20 minute drive) and Caberfae Peaks (30 minute drive).

Relax and experience the outdoors at it's best at this peaceful place on a hill, in the woods with amazing sunsets. This very rustic, quiet woods get away is full of fauna like squirrels, deer, and birds galore, you may encounter a mouse or two and bugs of course as well, it is the country! Hike into the woods and find mushrooms, woods flowers and flora of all kinds.There will be some water in the cabin for washing up. But ...

The space
There is a set of twin size bunk beds and a twin size trundle bed. Sleeps 3 people total. Bedding is not provided in the rental cost. However, it can be upon request at an additional fee of $10 per bed to cover laundry cost (this would include 1 pillow, 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet and 1 blanket per bed).
A tent is allowed for additional sleeping with a total of 6 people on the property, at an additional fee of $20 for the tent.

A few gallons of water will be available at the cabin and more can be obtained for free, at a source across the road for washing and cooking. We suggest you bring bottled water for drinking. There is no shower, bath tub, etc. There is a hotel 3 miles away that do allow people to shower for a $10 fee.

Firewood is available for purchase on site at $4.00 per bundle. (NO outside wood allowed - due to potential introduction of invasive beetles into our woods).

There is an old fashioned outhouse (not a port-a-potty) with tissue paper provided, not the old Sears catalog😉. Hand sanitizer dispenser.

Firepit and charcoal grill are available for cooking and a cooler for food storage, however we do not supply charcoal or ice.
Firewood for sale on site at $4 per bundle. *NO outside wood allowed - due to potential introduction of invasive beetles into our woods. First bundle of firewood is free!

No electricity means: no AC or fans or lights besides the solar ones. For cooler weather there is a gas heat source. There is decent cell service though.

Great place for some star gazing and to see the Northern Lights when they are happening!

Guests may hike up the hill behind the cabin but there are posts in the front indicating private property, that must Not be crossed.

We are located about 15 minutes from Silver Lake Sand Dunes, shopping and Crystal lake for fishing. There is a nice bike/hiking trail just down the road. The newly finished Shelby Community Sports Park only 1.5 miles away, is now open with Pickleball, Kids playground, Dog park, Basketball courts, etc.

Other things to note
This is for a quiet retreat only. No loud music, partying, etc. there are neighbors and one other cabin to be considerate of.
*Again, this is NOT a place to get away and party. Violation of this and you may be asked to leave.

The space
This is a Very rustic cabin. No shower, bathtub or indoor plumbing. Outdoor outhouse only. There is water provided at a wash station, under the porch for washing dishes, cooking and washing up. You'll want to bring drinking water, however.

*Pets and anyone under 18 are ever to be left alone at the Cabin! If this happens you WILL be asked to leave.

We do try to be Pet Friendly, however they must be pre-approved before booking!
No aggressive breeds of dogs are allowed (Cane Corso, pit bull, Rottweiler or any cross of these).

Guest access
Entire cabin is yours to enjoy. There is a shared outhouse with another cabin. This cabin is 200 feet away and is not visible to each other.

One step up into the cabin. No stairs.

Guests may hike up the hill across from the cabin. There are posts in the back and informing of the outhouse indicating private property, that must Not be crossed.

We do have an occasional bear or cougar in the area, but your chances of seeing them is next to nothing; they do their best to avoid us humans! We did have a silver fox in the driveway one day. Harmless and so cool to see!

We have almost 30 acres of walking trails that you and your animal friends could enjoy. CK Ranch is a working ranch and a farm tour could be arranged for guests of any age. Animals include horses, cows, goats, ducks, chickens, and peacocks.

I live in this 100-year+ old bungalow. My home is a long-collected museum from the 1950s. It is never left alone to the public. I do live here. My co-host also lives here. Please keep in mind guest rooms are on the second floor. There is ONE shared bathroom on the main floor. My home is always clean. Manistee is a working seaport. You will find bars, restaurants, and other businesses in the neighborhoods. IF YOU ARE BRINGING A DOG PLEASE INFORM ME, thank you.

The space
My home welcomes everyone. Lake Michigan is a 3 to 7-minute drive from my home.
My yard area has a large deck. Also a Koi pond for relaxing.
Please look at all the photos. Parking on the premises. What you see is what you get. Again I stress the guest rooms are on the second floor. ONE bathroom on the main floor. I live on the main floor. Cooking happens in the kitchen. Apparently, this is not generally understood.

You have full access to this home. Feel free to cook. Recently added flat-screen TV in the bedroom area with access to Netflix. Also Wi-Fi access.

Someone has to make the coffee in the morning! That would be ME! Yes, I live here.

My home is not user-friendly for children under 15. You must specify the age when booking any children. I find I must repeat I live here. I greet you at the front door.

During Open hours you can receive your check in information from the camp store. All after hours registration information can be found in the NIGHT CHECK IN box to the Left of the Front office door.

Keep in mind Linens are not included in this rate. If you would like to add on linens please call the office to make arrangements.

Also the Campground does not allow outside firewood. Please do NOT bring any with you for your stay you can purchase from the office 24/7.

During the off season, the rates are highly discounted due to the water and WiFi being off.
There are primitive restroom facilities near the cabins

Bear Claw Cabin is located at the Lake Forest Lodge in Baldwin. Close to Big Star Lake, Chain of Lakes area, Pere Marquette River and right next to the Manistee National Forest.
Come and enjoy all that nature has to offer. We are located right next to the 76th Street trail head. We have plenty of room for your trailers, boats, atvs and snowmobiles.
We do not allow pets.
Outdoor space includes a nice porch with chairs to enjoy your morning coffee. Private fire pit and outdoor setting.

Check out time is 11 am, if you check out after you will be charged an additional $25
