This 100-year old water tower in our backyard supplied water to beach cottages on our street. It's been renovated into a tiny home, mostly using reused or upcycled materials. We're happy to share it with guests looking for a quiet & unique place to stay in the Bay Area.
It has its own entrance, private courtyard and is located one block from the beach, pinball museum, transit, farmers market, coffee shops & restaurants. You’ll love it because it's quaint and conveniently located.
The space
The water tower is two stories. Downstairs is a kitchenette with a small fridge and microwave and electric hot water kettle, two chairs, a chaise lounge, a coffee table and bar top. There's a small closet for storage and hanging clothes. There's a small bathroom and shower accessible through the front door porch. There are 8 ladder style steps to get to the bedroom upstairs. Staying at the Water Tower is not advisable for guests scared of heights or feel uncomfortable going up steep stairs. Guests also need to feel comfortable staying in a small space (145 sq ft) . The bedroom upstairs has a desk and a twin bed. There's a mattress under the bed that can accommodate a second person though we generally discourage more than one person staying for multiple days since it's a small space. Also please note that there's a $25 per day fee for additional guests.
Guest access
Guests can access the Watertower by walking up the driveway of the main house and through the back gate. The Water Tower is on the far left corner of the property. It has its own private gate and courtyard.
Other things to note
Our dog "Odi" might greet you at the gate. He is super friendly. Just say hi and continue towards the water tower.
The bathroom and shower are in the same space directly outside the front door. This is more of a European style setup where the whole space is waterproof and ok if it gets wet.
Our pricing is for one guest and we discourage two people staying given tight quarters in our backyard. In situations where a second guest is involved, we ask that our pricing policy is adhered to and the $25 extra gueat fee added to the reservation.

Bedding, towels, etc. are washed in Tide-free detergent (no dyes or perfumes) & I use white vinegar rinse instead of fabric softener. I often put a satchel of dried lavender in the dryer that leaves a very faint (often non-existent) lavender scent on the laundry.
We mostly use Method plant-based cleaning products that do not seem to leave much of a scent.

This studio apartment is part of a Craftsman bungalow home. The front unit is a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment and this is the back unit. You do not share any spaces with the front unit. They are completely separate. You have your own entrance at the back of the home down the driveway. You have your own private deck. You have your own kitchen and your own full sized stackable washer and dryer. You have your own bathroom with a bathtub/shower combo, toilet and vanity. The kitchen is equipped with cooking equipment and appliances as well as dishes, silverware cups and all other basic kitchen needs.

Great space for a lovely trip to the Bay Area! Located in a very safe & quiet neighborhood of Alameda. The cottage has a private bathroom with shower (no tub), a kitchenette with microwave, and the most comfortable queen bed. Close to Oakland Coliseum, BART, SF, Oakland Airport, and ferry to SF. Great access to Bay Farm Trail and just a short walk to restaurants and shopping.

A beautiful space that was converted to a cottage. High ceilings with exposed beams gives it lots of great character. Vizio flat screen TV with Netflix. Please note there is no couch and the bed is pushed against one wall. There are several hangers for your clothes and a full sized mirror, iron & ironing board. Oscillating fan and space heater. I have an outdoor Ring camera pointed at the walkway.

This is your private space. We share a yard with you. This cottage sits behind our house in the backyard. You have a private side entrance to the yard and private access to the cottage. Our children sometimes (rarely) play in the backyard. I sometimes have my very friendly yellow lab, but he will not be in the yard unattended, if at all.

The space
The Redwood cottage is located in the backyard of a family home. It's about 250 square feet and the door opens to the yard. When you lay in the bed or work at the desk, you have views of mature redwoods and palm trees. There is a high end Dyson space heater and heated mattress pad for cooler nights.
There is a smart TV and you're welcome to log into your apps - Netflix, Prime, etc. There is no cable TV. There is a fold up eating tray and extra blankets in the closet.
The kitchenette features s mini fridge, sink, toaster oven, coffee makers, microwave, plates and utensils, knife and cutting board, drinking glasses (indoor and outdoor. Please the fancy plastic cups outdoors.)
We have a 5 and 9 year old who use the backyard which includes a large trampoline that's next to the cottage. While you're staying with us we will try to limit trampoline use when you're in the cottage.

The space is on the first level of the house, accessible through a separate entry located at the end of the walkway, on the right side of the house.

The guest house is separate from our living space and encompasses a dine in kitchen, hallway, one bedroom, a living room and a bathroom. You’ll be provided a personal code for the keypad entry.

Please let us know prior to arrival if there are special accommodations you may need and note that our space is not ADA compliant or child proof. We will have coffee, tea, oatmeal, snacks, and fruit waiting for you as well as an assortment of spices and cooking oil. Island Savoy, a local market, is located two blocks, east bound. Caballo Wraps for savory Central American cuisine, a local chocolatier for your sweet tooth, a laundromat and Forbidden Island for a tiki bar experience are all located within 2-5 blocks, eastbound. The island cottage is a fully-detached, single-story residence located about 15 yards away from the main house occupied by your hosts, Marise and Jason. Note that your closest neighbors will be those living in the mid-sized, two-story apartment building just behind the cottage. The area we live in is very quiet overall — occasionally, however, you may hear construction noise or a dog barking. Jason and I have three indoor/outdoor cats (Tinklebell, Loki, and Hobbes) who live with us in the main house, though you may see them in the backyard from time to time. The high-tech cat door is locked to prevent curious critters from venturing inside during your visit.

Walk 2 short blocks to gorgeous path along the water and charming historic downtown with 35+ restaurants/take out/coffee shops, twice weekly Farmer's Market yet still a quiet neighborhood. 5 minute drive to Ferry direct to San Fran & 2 blocks to bus stop with easy access to all of the Bay Area. Bring the family to the hidden gem, Crab Cove Beach. Lots of open space and wildlife. Bring your kayak/SUP boards (store them here) and 3 walkable launches. Full Kitchen (gas) Washer/Dryer (free).
The space
This is your little home/office away from home. Multiple work-from-home spaces. Both bedrooms can accommodate a full size desk and office chair.
Main bedroom: Sleep in a new-in-2020 queen bed with black-out blinds (in case you want to sleep in) and a 22" flat screen TV with Amazon Fire Stick (no cable).
The 2nd bedroom is set up as an office with an adjustable stand-up/sit down workstation and twin-size daybed. The living room has an armchair, a love seat and can accommodate an air mattress.
Hang out in the backyard hammock or on the cute front porch with Adirondack chairs and lovely garden. The patio area has comfy seating, a fire pit and colorful, overhead solar string-lights for enjoying the (generally) cool night air.
Kitchen has a full-size Gas Range and microwave along with more than just the basics for cooking (but please let me know if there is something specific you are missing because I might have it available to share).
If you are bringing bikes or other equipment, storage is available for your stuff in the garage.

The fenced yard is shared with another house where I live (and sometimes a foster dog).
The washer and dryer available for your use are in the garage under the main house. Feel free to help yourself to the laundry soap and supplies.
You are welcome to store your luggage, sports equipment, kayak, SUP, etc in the garage under the main house as long as it fits in the 8'x12' designated area. We can make room outside for kayaks, etc that may not fit inside.
Nearby Crab Cove Beach is a local, mostly unknown treasure with very shallow water and virtually no waves which makes it ideal for little ones making sand castles. A beautiful path along the water for biking, walks and wildlife observers starts only 1 block away. Sea lions and manta rays can occasionally be seen in the bay along the walking/biking path. Also very nearby is a place that offers paddle board rentals and paddle board yoga classes.
Other things to note
Parking in my neighborhood is free and generally easy (within about a block) without day or time restrictions. You must move your car every 3 days according to the law (only applies if a neighbor calls it in as abandoned).
You can briefly park on the sidewalk in front of the driveway for loading and unloading.
If you are bringing a service a animal please be sure to read Airbnb’s applicable policy. Things to note: “A guest’s service animal must not be left alone at the listing without prior approval. “

What is very special about this 1890’s bungalow is the
Hidden private attic bedroom and the large open concept main living area with large deck. The space has a 13 step spiral staircase that goes up to a private attic bedroom . The bedroom looks out to the oakland hills and San Francisco sky line .
