You are literally 12 minutes to the beaches, downtown, Riverside, Town center or the Airport. When we say center, we mean it.

Cast your anchor in a vintage-inspired mother-n-law suite in historic Avondale, a leafy riverside neighborhood near Downtown Jacksonville and 30 minutes to the beach. Conveniently located near I-10 and I-95 and Ortega Marina and within walking distance of the Shoppes of Avondale, the waterfront, public tennis courts and parks. Newly renovated, this studio suite features a comfortable queen-sized bed, a kitchen with a retro refrigerator, flat-screen TV and a bathroom with all the essentials.

The space
At approximately 300 SF, Cast 'n Anchor offers a taste of tiny home living. Once a carriage house dating back to the 1930's, this building was later converted to a mother-n-law suite, a popular addition to homes before WWII. After many years, the building fell into disrepair and rather than demolish the structure, which had settled into the ground, it was raised up to pour a new concrete foundation. Renovations, which took a couple of years to complete, have given this old carriage house new life; it now offers guests a character-rich respite in a friendly and safe neighborhood along the St. Johns River.

The deck attached to the main house is available for your use. There's also a sitting area in the garden to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. The kitchen has a countertop stove/toaster/air fryer and a hotplate. Since counter space is limited, there is no microwave. A single serve drip coffee maker, percolator (old school!), French press and kettle are available to make coffee and tea.

You may park in front of the main house or in the back which can be accessed using the alley.

The space
The Retreat has been a favorite place for me to relax, it is off the street which lends for a very quite and comfortable space. The front room has several windows with lots of sunshine coming through, a couch, chair and flat screen tv (cable included).
The bedroom is cozy with windows that are shaded by the trees, sleeping late in this room has never been a problem. The Sterns&Foster mattress is on a platform bed I bought from pottery barn, it has big wicker storage baskets underneath. There is a full bath ad-joining the bedroom, complete with towels and mats; there is also a laundry room/sun room ad-joining the bedroom, complete with a washer and dryer, and extra storage.
The kitchen is a galley kitchen with plenty of work space, and includes everything you would need to fix a meal, there is a dining area at the kitchens entrance.
The Retreat is within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, bars, coffee shop and our newest venue FIVE for live must.

The space
As you enter the studio apartment, you'll be greeted by a bright and open living area, tastefully decorated with elements reminiscent of the Greek islands. The whitewashed walls adorned with traditional cobalt blue accents create a refreshing and serene atmosphere, inviting you to unwind and relax. Sink into the comfortable queen bed and let your worries melt away as you soak up the tranquil vibes.

The kitchenette, although compact, is fully equipped and all the essentials you need to prepare your own Greek-inspired meals. Whip up a delicious tzatziki or moussaka using fresh local ingredients and savor the flavors of the Mediterranean. The charming dining area, complete with a modern cafe table and chairs, offers the perfect spot to enjoy your culinary creations while imagining yourself overlooking the Aegean Sea.

The suite is located in the carriage house in the rear of the main house. You will follow the driveway to the backyard - where this unit is located. The backyard oasis is shared by other guests and is located right outside your front door.

This room has an antique upholstered loveseat perfect for snuggling. Through French doors, you’ll have access to the semi-private covered porch and seating, perfect for an evening cocktail or morning coffee. The spacious private ensuite bath offers an antique clawfoot tub and a separate oversized shower.

Veronica, the owner/innkeeper lives on the property. She is available in person, via phone and text throughout your stay.

There is limited parking on site and is on a first come/first serve basis. Street parking in front of the property is always available.

This guest space, operated by the Williams House, welcomes children over the age of 14 when traveling with their parent. Young adults, 25 years or older, traveling without their parents, are welcome at the inn as well.
