We try our best to keep the porch lights on but sometimes this does not happen so please be aware when planning your arrival.

We are conveniently close to all freeways: 76, 78, and 15, and private, off street parking is available. We are also close to shopping and restaurants, all within a couple of miles away. The closest beach is in Oceanside, which is about a 15 minute drive West of us.
A 20% Military discount is available for active servicemen or their families serving at Camp Pendleton. Military ID required for discount. The 20% discounted funds will be donated to the Capt. John J. Sax Foundation. Capt. Sax sadly perished in an Osprey training mission on June 8, 2022. This is just one way our family honors his memory. 🇺🇸
You may request Early/Late Check-out, but it is subject to our schedule, for an additional fee of $25 for each request, for example EITHER Early/Late request is $25 but if you want BOTH Early/Late, you would pay $50 and the additional fees will be collected through the Resolution Center of Air BnB.
We are in a high fire danger area but we are 420 pen and Vape friendly, no other type of smoking is allowed and only outside on the deck. You will be required to pay a $250 additional cleaning fee which will be requested through the Resolution Center if there is a smoke smell in the unit upon check out.
We provide laundry service for linens and towels only, no personal laundry. There is a laundromat very close by in a nearby shopping center.
Please note that we sometimes hear noises from Pendleton when they are training with mortars and ammunitions. You can hear it throughout North County and all the neighbors refer to it as the "Sounds of Freedom". There is a schedule posted online to check for days/times. Usually it is quiet at night time however. I mention it in case any of our potential guests suffer from PTSD, which may be an issue for them.

You may walk the front of the property by the pine tree and use the swing or sit on the bench, enjoy a meal on the picnic table, or sip a beverage and watch the sunset or stargaze on our Adirondack chairs, or watch our busy bees hard at work from a distance!
We do have walking paths, however, the ground is uneven, so care needs to be taken while walking. We have marked areas where guests are not allowed to walk because my husband works from home and those areas need to be a quiet zone. Children need to be monitored by their parents at ALL times.
Other things to note
For stays longer than 14 days, we require an additional quick cleaning of the unit every week for $50 each time, and those fees are paid directly to the cleaning service on your cleaning day. Guests are asked to vacate the property for 2 hours while the cleaning is being done. This is also when we will enter the unit to check for any minor repairs that may need to be done or maintenance. This service is NOT optional or negotiable. We must be able to enter, clean, and maintain our unit every week for longer stays.
The maximum length of stay is 28 days.

Nestled in the northeastern part of Carlsbad, just a 4.4 miles away lies a slice of historical wilderness - an ancient volcano and a dam dating back to the Second World War. Lake Calavera Preserve is a hidden gem. Amongst the growing city of Carlsbad, Lake Calavera Preserve is 262 acres of wildlife that supports plant and animal life only found in Southern California. Hike, bike, walk or run through this amazing natural experience. Don't forget your camera. At the entrance to the preserve, is Oak Riparian Park that offers 2 brightly colored play structures. One for little ones under 5 and one for bigger kids over 5. Lots of picnic tables and grassy area for kids to run and play ball. The beauty of the area is worth a visit just in itself.
SHOPPING/GROCERY/RESTAURANT: Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Pancake house, Pizzaria, Brewery restaurants are accessible on foot (1-2 miles); Costco, Ralph's, Wal-Mart, Ralphs, CVS, Walgreens, Food for Less, Vons near by within 1-4 miles.
Down the hill from the "Sparrow Cot", you arrived at downtown Vista, where you will find Cinépolis Vista, watching movies in the theater is on a leather recliner; in the hot summer days you might find Vista Wave Park is a must visit, to enjoy the water slides, the moving current man made river, simulated surf wave, etc...

Through September 15 we may be finishing up a small project besides the cottage that may create some noise intermittently but will not impact your stay at all.
The stairs in the guest house are a bit steep, similar to those of a tiny house, but has plenty of handles for your comfort but may be difficult with people and pets with disabilities.
3rd and 4th person is $45 per person per night over 2 years old.
Pull out sofas is ideal for kids not adults.
We are pet friendly but unfortunately we do not allow beautiful kitties so sorry.
There is a $70.00 one time pet fee, per pet.
And we require that your pets are on flea control.
We also ask that you do not leave your dogs unattended.
The dryer is temporarily not working, however we have spot to hang dry. Sorry for the inconvenience.
We are sorry that we do not offer an early check in or late check out, but of course you could always request it.
